Oldham Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Disorganised, dirty, overpriced
Fantastic experience: Great environment
Negative experience: timetable is very misleading. for example it says its open on a sunday from 8am-9pm when really it shuts at 5. sort it out !!!
Fantastic experience: Very clean building ,excellent reception staff, swimming pool marvelous
Negative experience: Parking is abysmal. Allow at least 30 minutes to park.
Fantastic experience: Clean facility with a plethora of different sports and classes. There is a can do attitude about the facility with extremely helpful and enthusiastic staff I'm really enjoying strengthening my muscles after a full hip replacement
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and users, very warming atmosphere everybody ready to help if you need, I've been using it for few months now. Should have come years ago but hesitated and now only come since the doctor ordered but I should have come decades ago for my health I recommend anyone and everyone to join a gym and get your health in order
Positive experience: Fantastic swim♂️
Negative experience: Racist swimming staff they asked me to show them my receipt and I said I binned it and he said”go in the bin and find it” didn’t let us in when we payed more than we should have told us to get out the pool in such a rude tone would not recommend.
Positive experience: Good clean facilities, can get busy at times.
Positive experience: Great place. All round activities. Wish they would improve the coffee though..
Positive experience: Very pleasant place and some great characters go to this place
Fantastic experience: A great experience
Fantastic experience: Great place for exercise always clean with lovely staff very helpful
Negative experience: I have been coming here for about 8 months but am considering packing it in. The last few weeks it has turned into a youth club with loads of young lads coming in messing about or just sitting on aparatus not using it and looking at there phones , very annoying when i pay £30+ per month and cant get on anything or have to wait upto 20 minutes each time until they get off there phones. I know its not just me as other members have mentioned it as well. If you mention it to staff they just say well they pay to come in, which is true but they pay to use the equipment not sit on it and stop others from using it.
Positive experience: The changing room is discusting to say the cleaning staff always have a mop at hand the floors are full of gum the place needs a good steam clean
Fantastic experience: I'm here 5 days a week. I love all the classes and the staff are friendly and helpful too
Fantastic experience: Great lesiure center, pool and sauna are really lovely
Fantastic experience: Good friendly environment.. Plenty of parking Swimming for kids, family and women only.. Showers baths and changing rooms.. Gym and plenty other sporting activities
Fantastic experience: Fantastic venue! We used this for the street comp, a stones throw from the bus station and a huge carpark next to the centre it's perfect for the commute by public transport or your own, we had the mini bus outside , it was a brill day and the hall was perfect for what we needed.
Fantastic experience: Love very entertaining and have fun with family and friends xxx
Fantastic experience: Indoor bowls one and only around here
Positive experience: The Pools Are Big & Good For Family Swimming , Toilets Are Clean And Rarely Used And 3/4 Staff Were Friendly And Helpful. 1/4 Of The Staff Either Gave You A Dirty Look Or Not Be That Nice To You But Overall Its Not Bad + The Car Park Is Outrageous! At Certain Times
Positive experience: Great place to take the kids swimming, yoga other groups for activities
Fantastic experience: Good facility great for a workout then a relaxing time in steam or sauna
Negative experience: £36 a month is outrageous for such a low quality gym as well a hardly available sauna/steamroom and the swimming pool is closed off half the time for school children. Most high quality gyms are like £15-£25 max a month and paying 36 you would expect a premium gym and health suit. Would NOT recommend.
Negative experience: Pay £36 a month which is a premium for the extra benefits of a sauna and steamroom which has not been working numerous times over the last few months. £36 is more than a lot of other gyms in Oldham including Everlast gyms which looks really good. Steep price and then constant issues in the centre. Some of the gym equipment is broken and has been broken for a few weeks now. Management don’t seem to care to get good fixes in place for the Oldham community. Do they really care about fitness and wellbeing?
Fantastic experience: Fabulous,,, all new and friendly
Fantastic experience: Good place all in one . Swimming sona stream gym indoor game.
Negative experience: The car park is AWFUL. Most of the time is always full and you have to wait between 10-20 minutes to find a place, if you are lucky. Many times I give up going to the leisure centre because of this TERRIBLE car park. It's frustrating for us because we are paying monthly to have access to the facilities and services provided are awful. I'm booking for classes and many times I have to cancel because of the car park. In the winter time aswell is another issue, the car park surface is full of ice . It's not safe at all for no one, in special for the elderly people, kids and for cars aswell. I asked them why they aren't going to use some gripper ?! The answer was " we don't have any" or you don't care about it, I suppose. You should fix this issue!
Fantastic experience: Hello. Just fact’s. Clean, refurbished gym +7/8, spin +8/9, hall all sports is full 10+, worm hit inside 10+, swimming pool 10+ very busy, sauna 8/9 (needed refurbishment) but hit is 10+, showers is good 7/8, change rooms 9, Staff thankfully and very flexible 10+, Management 10+. Just I like it. Off course I need more options for my professional conditioning but sauna swimming congestion. Thank you. Kind Regards Marius
Positive experience: Went in the learner pool. Clean and well attended by life guards
Fantastic experience: Excellent place. For sports & gym ️♂️ including swimming ♀️
Positive experience: Nice set up reasonable price for bowls parking a big problem early doors
Positive experience: We went for a boxing event The event fight organisation was good but the staging was pants not much atmosphere apart from the fans and the bar was up three flights of stairs
Positive experience: Car park is a complete nightmare. You end up with cats just dumped anywhere that can get them. Reception is ok and the staff are good on the reception desk. The building is a bit of a rabbit warren. Some of the fitness studios, I'm not sure why the music has to be so loud! Maybe to hide the screams!?? The seating for the swimming is really steep, be careful with little kids or elderly parents watching the swim lessons .. it gets a bit precarious. The staff in the swimming pool though are decent and a big focus is getting people into swim club.
Negative experience: Hygiene levels in the sauna steam are atrocious. People scrub their bodies inside in front of everyone using product and spreading germs
Positive experience: It's a decent place Pros: Free classes for members Free sports activity badminton, table tennis and bowls Sauna and Steam room Cons: Build up of dust everywhere Locker and shower rooms need deep cleaning The car park is always rammed and unfair on members Half the gym equipment is broken Has taken the place 7 weeks to replace a door
Positive experience: It’s a decent place the only complaint I’d have is none of their equipment is connected to the internet. It’s an easy fix but it’s been like that for months
Positive experience: Good recently redeveloped sports centre
Fantastic experience: Perfect Place for all sports activities, staff is very friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Gym and swimming tennis and cafe there people do enjoy and healthy
Positive experience: Booked my son a membership looks busy n plenty to do
Positive experience: Liked it enjoyed it, but at family swim time a bit too crowded, could be better with the timing
Fantastic experience: Just had a great workout at Oldham leisure centre staff. Tom was really helpful and explained everything correctly I will come back again.
Negative experience: Horrible, rude, racist, incompetent staff. If you don’t like working here and are not a people person then you probably shouldn’t be dealing with customers/ members. Absolutely rubbish communication skills and your facial expressions emanate racism. Numerous people have mentioned this regarding staff. They need to change their staff. Go and find another job as you’re completely useless at this moment in time. Disgusting!
Negative experience: lol that's all I can say
Negative experience: Terrible leisure centre. The parking is absolutely ridiculous for a new centre in the middle of a town the parking is poor. Which then means a struggle to get in, this is every single weekday after 5pm. There is so much that goes on inside the centre including staff who have to park too. The gym equipment isn’t great especially as you can get better priced gyms in the area with classes included. I would avoid and go elsewhere with better equipment and more parking.
Negative experience: rubbish staff cos theyre are rubbish lol
Negative experience: Some ginger worker discriminates us and acts as if we’re doing anything wrong although me and my friends we pay monthly for our membership, it’s a shame I love the place but some of the workers aren’t it.
Positive experience: Been a member for years. Now just needs some new equipment in the gym also equipment out of order for a long periods all other services good but needs updating
Negative experience: Not always very clean, difficulties with parking. Terrible signal, no Internet, the vending machines are card only but the card readers don't work because of the lack of signal/Internet I presume. Always got gym equipment out of order. I was told under 4 could swim for free on my membership, it was a selling point for me to join, which was fine for months and then recently I was told to pay, that only the 'ultimate' members can get an under 4 in for free. I can't wait for my 12m to be over. They wouldn't allow me to cancel and it's actually more expensive to buy out the longer you've been a member ??1!?
Negative experience: I've tried to sign up but it's so hard to do so. It asks for multiple codes to sign in and I could never work it out. Such a shame as me and the rest of my family wants to use it but the system is just too confusing.
Fantastic experience: New floor and paint job done!
Fantastic experience: Good leisure centre, increased the membership charges which is not affordable,no family discount.
Fantastic experience: Nice and tidy, friendly staff plenty to do.
Positive experience: Decent. Nice and clean
Fantastic experience: A very nice place for both adults and children to play and exercise
Fantastic experience: Easy access, good facilities
Negative experience: I went today Sunday with my family to the pools at 11am and I was attended by a lady with yellow hair I don't know her name but she treated me very badly she said she didn't understand me she spoke to me badly, she charged me more, then I came back when I left at 12:30 so that the other girl who was at the reception could help me with my user number didn't work in the app and she was very kind and then this lady arrived again and said that I smelled a bad smell when I was there, that is already discrimination, lousy service at Oldham Leisure. I got to have fun with my family, and I paid like everyone else. I will not return to be treated badly again.
Positive experience: Nice sports hall, decent gym (not for heavy heavy lifting, upto about 140kg max if you take all the 20 plates in gym). Mainly for cardio in that gym, huge swimming pool but sometimes a bit dirty, especially when there's a lot of kids. Best time to go would be before family swim session.
Negative experience: Leisure Centre: Not Bad, Car Park: Not secure. No issues with the facilties, use the badminton court alot. However the car park isn't secure, was only inside for less than an hour and someone tried to break into my van. Passenger side door lock missing, door panel scratched, rear doors tried to be peeled back. This facility needs proper fencing around and cctv. Can't even use it without being broken into. Sad times. Welcome to oldham leisure centre.
Fantastic experience: A good leisure centre close to the centre of Oldham. Has a carpark. Large and small pool. Gym, studios and large sports hall. Worth a visit.
Fantastic experience: Good Pool size and plenty of onsite parking. Staff are friendly.
Fantastic experience: Only really go for swimming and it happily provides can't fault it
Positive experience: Following refurbishment I've decided to change my review score. For now, most of the equipment is working, and I have never once had an issue with staff at this premises. People are very polite and everything feels clean. Minor complaint is that sometimes the gym is too crowded, but that's out of the hands of the centre. The member wi-fi is also extremely restrictive to the point it does not feel worth using.
Fantastic experience: Excellent purpose built sports centre with loads of amenities. Great helpful staff and a good sized pool. Highly recommended
Negative experience: I love classes but when is time to use sauna or shower. Is shocking. Dirty place, cold water running few seconds. Water machine often not working . Sauna over crawling by men sometimes around 20 is there. Nobody is.not checking plus guys enter with out pass to sauna. Shame as staff so nice there.
Positive experience: Good but the bowling hall in need of a clean and especially hoovering
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and staff
Negative experience: So one of the reception staff member (Elaine) thinks it's fine to discriminate a parent of an autistic child. And when my wife politely questioned the lady about why she didn't allow the previous customer in, Elaine rudely asked "And who are you?!", So immediately my wife requested to speak to the manager. Absolute disgrace the parent who was refused entry was devastated as was his kids for refusal of entry. Turns out it was due to the ratio of adults to children, but the thing is I always see this single father with four children in the pool and never an issue but Elaine felt the need to aggressively assert her authority. Disgusting as these staff are hired by Oldham, a public council service and not a private company. Sad as Elaine has also been seen speaking very aggressively with Asian elderly ladies who use the facilities as English isn't their first Language. Pathetic because I am guessing no-one has pulled her up on it, but I will be writing to the council regarding this.
Positive experience: Great place for gym and indoor badminton. I go there every week for badminton
Positive experience: Just rang up to see if it was okay for me to go for a swim the woman on the phone named Nicola was very polite and helpful and let me know the next available times & dates for a Lane swim , so thankful for the customer service I received
Fantastic experience: Modern facilities. Still looking fresh and new at the minute. How long that will last... Loved the underfloor heating in the swimming changing area. Need a pound coin for lockers
Fantastic experience: Great variety of classes for all levels.
Positive experience: Nice place, but need more friendly staff.
Positive experience: Only visited ' thought it was for the young poser . No people of all ages and backgrounds just getting on with it . Well worth a visit . . .
Positive experience: I’ve been to a fair number of gyms over the years and OLC is definitely one of the better ones
Negative experience: Staff so rude special on Sunday with the ladies time. and men moving round
Positive experience: Was shocked at unisex changing room but was also good as ment my son was able to stay with me safe
Positive experience: I have attended this swiming pool sawna and steam room a few years ago and enjoyed it. Since then I have some how been riddled with anxiety. I tried to attend last year and really couldn't Bare with all the hustle and bustle. Please could I recommend maybe placing some quiet times for people with anxiety problems. I know supermarkets do this . I hope this feedback gets to someone Would love to hear back from you
Fantastic experience: Clean environment for all activities and great staff
Positive experience: Quick to take a £10 deposit on arrival but oblivious to giving it back when I was departing, however, I thoroughly enjoyed using the facilities (pool, sauna and steam room)
Negative experience: Staff incompetent or untrustworthy cannot register new members. One person designated to do so, if they are not on site then you can't register. Been to the centre three times trying to join, got sent away or told to leave details and await phone call. Never happens. Just got fed up in the end and joined somewhere else.
Positive experience: Regular user, very good facilities.
Positive experience: Used this for a number of weeks now and the facilities are brilliant. I would compare these with any of the top class facilities around the country. The place is clean and well maintained. Booking is very easy and trouble free. I would give five stars but we have had an issue with the person working. The majority of times we go in, show our booking and use the facility. The people working are normally very helpful even giving us equipment when we have needed it. On one occasion the person working was very rude, deliberately taking time to find our booking, questioning why certain exempt members were not wearing a mask, insinuating that we don't want to pay for equipment which we did pay for but generally got for free to use. It was a horrible experience and a put off from using the sports centre. Sad to give four stars as generally its a great overall experience. On the same day, the lady even denied entry to a lad who wanted to use a gym. We've seen this guy using the gym every week we go. More needs to be done to encourage people to come and use the centre. Oldham is a great town with brilliant facilities.
Negative experience: Poor customer service. I have had a number of encounters with the staff behind the counter there who are very rude and condescending. I think this is an unacceptable way to treat their customers. They really need to fix this.
Fantastic experience: Great staff and well set out
Fantastic experience: I visited to take part in a COVID research project about antibodies. Nice big sports hall but not there for activity!
Positive experience: Went here several times for the COVID vaccine trial. Modern and well equipped leisure centre
Fantastic experience: Clean facilities with load of options from the gym, swimming, badminton etc its great and always feel welcomed by the staff
Fantastic experience: Good classes and gym helpful staff. Highest standard of covid safety.
Fantastic experience: Great for playing Badminton, can't wait to get on the Zumba class it looks fun.
Positive experience: Great place for children’s swimming lessons.
Fantastic experience: I love attending the classes, they have excellent instructors. OLC is very clean and every thing has been done to make you feel safe from Coronavirus 19. Well done to Oldham leisure centre.
Positive experience: Plenty of activities with good timetables, clean, great staff and a nice little café. I'd highly recommend the active card for non members and kids to get great savings, otherwise if you're a teen or an adult, ask about becoming a member, it's the best in this area due to the amount of benefits you get
Positive experience: Car parking is an absolute nightmare - there is nowhere near enough spaces for a leisure centre of this size, particularly on and evening when there are swimming lessons / clubs alongside all the other clubs and lessons in the gym etc. Aside from this the facilties are good.
Fantastic experience: Nice big pool but check time tables before you go
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre with everything for everyone. Great prices
Fantastic experience: Lovely place a new building everything you need in one place in Oldham.
