Our gym is known for excellent equipment and various fitness classes led by highly qualified instructors, making fitness fun and engaging for all.
Members frequently praise our friendly and professional staff who are always ready to assist and enhance your experience. The spa facilities and family-friendly swimming areas are also well-received, ensuring a relaxing and enjoyable visit for both parents and children.

Positive experience: Staff amazing here - really friendly and equipment is good although at busy times you can’t find a machine so I think they need to re check the ratio and introduce more machines - the reason for 3 star is simply the fact that the showers and changing rooms need an update - I went to my sister gym in Nottingham and the shower and changing rooms were another level. For what you pay please re do the changing rooms. Other than that staff are super - annoying you can’t call the gym directly now though too.
Negative experience: Can’t get through on phone. Ridiculous - how can I book or cancel the crèche?

Negative experience: Very poor, manager never calls you back and a lot of the staff don’t look like they want to be in the building. Dallington Gym is far better if you want to deal with people who care.

Negative experience: My home gym is in London but thought i will use this gym as its included in my membership and i was in town! the gym equipment are great, In fact i would argue its one of the best i have seen out of all their branches. However, i was very disappointed when they told me they don't provide towels! for a company that charges hundreds of pounds they should IMO provide towels. All the Virgin active gyms in London provide towels. So i tried to dry myself with the hair dryer but they did not work!! i saw 2 more further away but there was a Que for them so i literally stood still until i got reasonably dry! Also i know they probably cant do much about the shower cubicals but they were incredibly small and a bit too see through for my liking.

Positive experience: Great sauna and spa but disappointing amount of gym equipment for the price being paid. Friendly staff but compared to some other gyms around northampton the amount of equipment and type of equipment compared to the price being paid here isn’t the best.
Fantastic experience: Good place, friendly staff. Good and friendly nursery staff apart of 2 young annoying teenagers demonstrates they she doesn't care about you and another should have some humanity and don't behave like robot. The main reception staff is just so amazing and always happy to help.
Positive experience: I joined recently for 1 month. The gym is very well equipped and has a good programme of classes. The app and online booking system were good but many classes full. The off peak times I attended were always busy. At the point of sign up and subsequently via the app I requested an induction session with a member of staff to show me how to use some of the unfamiliar equipment but this never happened, which was disappointing.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful young lady on the reception was very attentive and caring she even offered me a padlock whilst I was having a trial day with my vitality stay, there is a big difference between power of love and force from desperation or self gain she certainly has power the power to give to others I really hope she gets everything she needs and will pray for her 10/10 experience well done xx
Fantastic experience: My 5 stars are for Coral really. I’m a total class phobic but threw myself in to a session this morning. I can’t say how amazing Coral was. Total energy but done in a way that connected us all with the routine. Total superstar!
Fantastic experience: So far I have been a member of the Virgin Active for 3 weeks and I have engaged with a personal trainer today. A good experience and would like to sign up for more PT but my only hesitation is it is a little pricey. The gym has good equipment and hopefully I will reap the benefits soon.

Negative experience: Waiting for a refund for 7 months now, will never let me talk to a manager and keep saying one will ring me, I’ve rang 7 times and been there once and no one has got back to me. For how much they charge the customer service is very very poor. Would not recommend

Positive experience: I’ve been a member on and off from when the gym first opened. Recent changes to the gym equipment I love, never was a fan of the old machines. Some constructive feedback. The open area where classes take place can be annoying and loud when you want to work out in peace. Even with noise cancelling headphones. It’s a shame there is only 1 small Smiths Machine. You could add a couple more. The spa area is nice but the chlorine is so strong it can burn your nose and eyes. Wished you opened earlier at the weekend. Last but not least, the ladies changing rooms and shower area could do with an update. I believe it has been the same pretty much since the gym first opened. Would love if you were the first gym to offer reformer pilates.❤️

Negative experience: I joined this gym, disappointed I like the pool but can never use it as they have lessons going on all day so I tried cancelling it now they have put a £700 debt on my head will not join again and wouldn't advice this gym to anyone go anywhere else but here

Negative experience: Used to love coming in and was really looking forward to the refurb but oh my....what have you done? Smyth machine gone, multiple cables gone, static bars gone, curl machine gone, all the accesories for the lat pull down are gone. You going to lower the monthly sub to reflect the loss of kit? Course you ain't. how you have used the space is mind boggling. Now never any free weights free (god knows how) and even at 50% it now it feels full/stuffy. I have never known a gym to hype up a refurb and massively cut servivces for a month, only to make it worse (also, no rebursement for the lack of facilities whilst it was being upgraded, nice). Also love paying the membership to get one swimming lane whilst the kids get 3. Commical. Easy decision to cancel.

Negative experience: Massively over priced gym, some of the staff are very unhelpful and not particularly knowledgeable. Lacks atmosphere and the changing rooms are rarely as clean as they should be considering the price. The main positive is the spa and easy parking but still lacks value overall. Plenty of other better options round the town.

Negative experience: The gym is not big enough! You are waiting for about an hour for 1 machine to use. Due to size, you can't leave this gym untill the bind contract has ended so if you wish to go to a gym that is rammed with people who can't leave and use 1 machine a day then join this gym...
Negative experience: Rundown badly needs refurbishment.
Negative experience: This used to be a flagship gym, unfortunately it has massively declined. The equipment is very old and makes for an unpleasant work out. The equipment vibrates and makes high pitched noises. Some of the cross trainers wobble and some of the running machines belt slips. When the membership costs around £70 you expect the facilities to be of a certain standard. Forget connecting your modern 2021-2023 phone to the equipment and expect a reliable connection. The TVs on the machines are intermittent and do not support subtitles, and given the connectivity issues with modern phones means you can’t listen to the TV during a workout. I’ve just cancelled and will be signing up to another local, but modern gym.

Positive experience: Definitely not worth the money. Its certainly not terrrible but there's not enough equipment in relation to the amount of people who go there and the majority of it is poorly maintained. For a high end price I expect high end goods and services and this gym does not deliver. Everything is just a bit tired. The machines are a bit rusty and loose, nothing gets put away properly, the locker doors stick, the showers don't have very good pressure, in the spa the jet shower is more like a trickle. This is very much a mid range gym at best with a high end price tag. I'm sure it was lovely 10 years ago but it really does feel like nothing has been changed or updated in the last 10 years. If I wasn't locked in to a 12 month contract I'd be looking for an alternative.

Fantastic experience: I enjoy going to the classes, I usually only go for the classes. I fut in as many as possible around my worki g day 2 mat palates. I zumba 1 body pump 1 or 2 Aqua Cant beat it

Negative experience: I had to delete my previous review to post this one with a lower rating. I was told I would get a response on my previous post from Virgin Active on my comments on how poor the showers are in the male changing rooms. These are still broken with shelves missing - showers hanging off the walls (shower 14 for example). The biggest problem is the water pressure it’s like it dribbles out the shower head - the site needs to invest in pressure boosters as other clubs in the area like Diana’s, Nuffield and David Lloyd are much better and I am starting to think of going elsewhere - I know a few members have left due to the subpar facilities like the showers… Please fix and improve the showers asap in the male changing rooms as for the money you pay we expect decent showers. This is for Virgin Active Riverside Northamptonshire.

Negative experience: I booked a virgin experience spa for two last year and got put on the waiting list. Unfortunately I missed a call from them which was presumably to arrange the date. I tried numerous times to call and arrange a date but never managed to get through. It only went to voicemail and I never got a call back even though they said they would. My partner tried emailing them with the emails suggested with people with similar experiences but we never heard anything. Unfortunately my spa voucher has since expired and never got used. Wouldn't recommend booking here if you have a Virgin Experience Spa Voucher!

Negative experience: Counting down the days until my subscription ends. This gym is beyond useless. I've all but given up going here but made a rare trip today. Annoyingly I had to abandon the session after 15 minutes due to its poor equipment. With a lowly twenty-something percent occupancy (so nearly empty) there is still a queue three-deep to get onto the useful machines, whilst 80% of the 'specialist' machines are empty. There is always a queue for the (two!) multi gyms, barbells, and most free weights. I'm sure they equip this gym just to fill floor space based on whatever the sales rep is discounting rather than looking at the equipment people actually use and how it's used. Multi gyms and free weights are usually used as part of a multifaceted routine, so the user normally stays on them longer. 'Specialist' machines are usually only used by casual gym users who don’t stay long, often don’t have programme, and aren’t fussed what they do. Its daft to starve the gym of the equipment people use the most and the longest and fill the empty spaces with machines people don’t use that much. Other reviews say its no good at busy times; well its not much better when nearly empty – mainly due to the poor choices made equipping the gym. By the time you get onto the equipment you need, you need to go through your warm-ups again. If you just want to go on a treadmill for 30-40 mins then spend 10 minutes on the leg and arm machines then I dare say you can make this gym work. You're better of buying a multi-gym and a few free weights and staying at home or joining a private gym than going to Virgin. When I leave a gym I expected to feel exhausted, energised and relaxed. When I leave this Virgin gym I just feel frustrated and annoyed.

Negative experience: Spa is so busy in weekdays that it’s not useable. Too many members at once. Get a trial before you sign up to a 12 month contract and you’ll see it exactly for what it is

Fantastic experience: Riverside location: Great spa area! It's separate to the main & kids pool. Big gym area. Excellent classes covering a diverse set of workouts e.g., calisthenics, Lift club, Strength & Conditioning, Zumba, HIIT etc. Friendly people and helpful staff. Nice big changing area with plenty of showers that lead down to the pool and spa area. There's a large jacuzzi that has several different jets, seats and showers. 1 large steam room and 2 saunas offering different temperatures. There's also a swimming costume dryer. Family changing area & Adults only zone.

Fantastic experience: Where do I start? Ben Brown was a young and gentle man who showed me where the kids pool was. A great person who was willing to help me, and made me feel welcome. Negative experience: The outdoor pool will not be open until 11am today as the lifeguards haven’t turned up. This is a regularly occurrence, at this gym. They pay really poor wages and as a result the staff are not reliable. Generally there is always something each week at this place.

We have popped a message over to club management and will provide an update for you soon. UPDATE: Thanks Kieran. Unfortunately, on the date of your visit, we had staff sicknesses. This meant we could only safely open the indoor pool on Sunday morning between 07.00am - 10.15am, after which point we opened the outside pool. We opened the pool as soon as we could get it safely supervised. Thanks again.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, have been a member at Virgin Active for a few years. Top quality facilities, brilliant for kids (Kids pool and clubV), very clean and very helpful staff. I'd like to say a special thanks to Liberty who is a delight. She is very professional and always greets you with a smile. Overall an excellent gym and would highly recommend.

Negative experience: I would avoid. The gym during peak hours is far too busy, which causes inconvenience for members looking to use certain equipment. You can also never enjoy the spa fully as that’s always rammed. Even during off-peak hours, the free-weight areas feel severely inadequate due to their limited size and lack of equipment, The adjoined darkened free-weight section would be a lot more useful if it was coordinated better. The equipment in the area is very low quality with the incline bench press rocking back and forth. Not something you’d expect from a Virgin Gym. Theres about 5 adjustable benches in the whole gym so you’re always waiting or having to share equipment with others in close proximity. This has been a problem for years, but still not sorted. Even the PT’s think the free-weight situation is a joke. The gym does provide an app with a capacity tracker, but even at 40% capacity, members struggle to find space in the free-weight area and the spa packed. I’m yet to see a cleaner anywhere. It would seem the place is being run on a shoelace.

It could be feasible that, for example, the free weights area is quite busy, yet the pool is empty. We do constantly monitor equipment usage and adjust as necessary for member demand. Fantastic experience: It's totally worth the money. Big Gim, very big swimming pool, kids swimming pool, jacuzzi, 3 sauna. Lots of showers and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Kids area, and even a cafe area where you can enjoy snacks.

Fantastic experience: This is a superb gym and leisure center. I have been using this gym for decades and absolutely love it. The staff and members are all friendly and everything works as it should. Sometimes things are out of order but you have to remember there are literally hundreds if not thousands of people coming in and out. In my opinion, in the weights machine section the only thing lacking is a dedicated calf machine. This is over 20 years overdue.

Positive experience: Very good facilities, for training purposes and relax, I like most jacuzzi and saunas, jacuzzi need improvement, renewal for water flow, 2 out of 6 is all right other is not effective, need more beds for resting aswell, gym is to small for such many people around, equipment is new and good, but not enough space, for the membership price 59.99£ should be open 24/h not just 6-22, weekends 6-20. Not worthy to pay the money.

Negative experience: I freeze my PT due to health issues and when 3 months past I told my PT that I m not able to start just yet, however they took my money for other two months until I have noticed. I have all the conversations , I have asked for my money back but nothing have happened. They took my money without my consent and now I can’t take it back and we are talking about hundreds of pounds. Disgusting!!!!

Negative experience: Member for almost 12 months, the gym is almost unusable due to how busy it is at times. There is no adherence to using equipment for a max of 15 minutes during peak times and neither is it enforced. Considering the premium price the gym experience is poor and worsening. Whilst most of the equipment is okay there is a serious lack of free weights, squat racks and platforms. My wife and I were at David Lloyds prior to moving to the area, in both atmosphere availability of equipment, equipment quality and general facilities the difference is night and day. Poor show, avoid, save your money and look elsewhere.

Nothing been done called to manager she don't know what she's doing said her colleague on holiday...also lost my swimsuit and hair care they admitted what they put it to the bin. Negative experience: Just come back after three years of hibernation - unfortunately although the club advertises - “Increased cleaning throughout the day and overnight deep clean” - it’s not as as clean as it was before COVID. —-/ Update: I have been a member since 2004, and until COVID went every day. Could you explain why it took 7 days for the water fountain in the spa area to be cleaned. And can you explain why the water fountains are now, according to the Duty Manager only cleaned once a day? —- I am still waiting for my response.

Negative experience: I called this venue to book In my voucher for a massage 8 times! I keep getting told to leave a message, for them to never call me back. I got annoyed and called the “main reception” the person took my number and said I would get a call shortly. Very annoyed as I have been trying to book for a while now

Negative experience: Been going this gym for just over 2 years met some good friends and the PT's are great but they let travellers and scum in on day passes.. several incidents including having my towel stolen and used twice now whilst I'm swimming and caught on camera but yet nothing done about it. I've seen a man shave his head next to the jacuzzi on the lounger, scrape dead skin off there feet in the sauna.. and every day without fail people leave the sauna and get straight into jacuzzi sweaty messes. The showers stink of pi##! I even trod on a used nappy some creature left in the shower. This has become a cesspool of a gym
Negative experience: I really wish that I’d looked beyond the marketing hype. The gym was extraordinary busy at times I wanted to go and although the staff are very nice but the basics were not good. The showers earlier this year were in my opinion dirty and need updating. Hair, mould and person female items in the grid. Gross. I was very uncomfortable to the point I’ve not been back since my first visit in April. What is more I’m unable to cancel the contract. I can’t even use this gym anymore even if I wanted to.. so I have had to freeze the membership. If I could go back I just wouldn’t dream of joining. I have now exhausted myself asking to leave but despite numerous phone calls and explaining they refuse. I have signed a complex corporate legal contract I felt coerced into signing is very tightly worded and the requirements make it impossible to leave without utility bills I wasn’t given any time to digest the contract and with ADHD and a few minutes with a sales person I felt pressured to get the deal they were offering. I am trapped paying for something I don’t want to use and can’t use. As I said staff are nice but the membership itself feels like a money trap and I wouldn’t have signed the contract if I had understood it given my circumstances.

I can see here you chose the 12-month commitment, for which we are only able to accept early cancellation for medical, financial or relocation reasons, with supporting evidence. I can see you've spoken to the team, who've reached out to your Club. Hopefully, they will have a response shortly.
Negative experience: My partner brought me a spa voucher for two during 2020 and sadly I couldn't use it because of covid, I then had to extend it because I was pregnant and couldn't enjoy the experience. Since then I've had to pay to extend it 2 times because I have not been able to book the experience after many times of trying to call to book it. I've tried three different virgin active venues over the last 8 months and had no luck with any of them. It's now due to expiry again and I'm not willing to pay to extend again because I know I will never get through to book the voucher. Very disappointed that my partner has wasted so much money.

Negative experience: Myself and a friend are members of another gym. We were interested in swapping over to Virgin gym for the benefit of using the sauna,steam room, pool and being on our doorstep, but all they were able to offer was a walk around. Other gyms with similar facilities offer a day pass at a fee so you can get a feel for the gym which virgin don't offer unless your friends of a member. Obviously not interested in more busoness so will be looking elsewhere.

I can assure you that's not the case at all, we are simply a members-only club. Non-members can visit on a guest pass, but only if they're able to accompany a current member. Positive experience: Made use of the swimming pool while my son was at a birthday party. Was a nice, cool pool, with a separate children's pool. I'd recommend taking your towel down with you to the pool, as it's a bit of a walk to the changing rooms.

Negative experience: “Short staffed” is my opinion of the club; this also is their excuse for a lot of problems we encountered throughout our experience. Examples being, never available to answer calls, nor emails, callbacks are never when promised, long wait times for bookings when you do get to speak with a member of staff, but most importantly lack of availability to go experience the health and beauty treatments as a couple, which is what me and my partner were attempting. Before reading my below experience, if you are a couple, just book elsewhere, Champneys or Bannatyne spas are much more “couple friendly” and will be a better experience overall. **Part1** To keep it brief; we originally booked a 55minute body massage and when we came to book our appointment, the earliest they could fit us in was almost 6months from when we purchased it. Not only that, we were booked in at riverside club and told to go to Collingtree site instead by mistake, as we found out later. Once we arrived at the specified time, we were told that we were not booked in at the Collingtree site and after all the confusion and clarifying things, it resulted in us not having enough time to make it over to the correct spa either. They apologised and advised us to stay and use their facilities; they will contact the other spa to let them know to rebook us in. We eventually received a call from the correct spa ( that we had been calling relentlessly all morning to no avail, yet they could ring us back once we had missed the appointment just to tell us the obvious, that “we had missed our appointment” ). We explained we were sent to the wrong location, how we haven’t been able to get in contact all morning and that we were advised by a member of staff at collingtree that it will be rebooked. They apologised for all the inconvenience they had caused and rebooked us in even MORE MONTHS down the line. Months later we arrived at the specified time to be told our masseuse was now off sick and there was nobody to cover so our treatments could still not go ahead. So this was now our second unsuccessful trip, 2 days work me and my partner had booked off in total, and now would require a 3rd. Neither of us were happy about this. Frustratingly we could not even rebook our treatment while we were there and were told we would have to wait for a callback. Which did not happen for at least another FEW MONTHS. Appalling turn around time considering this was now a complaint and we originally purchased this experience over a year ago. I even enquired about a refund at this stage to be told it is rather difficult to get one and to just wait for the callback. Atrocious advice. A short review on here seemed to be the only thing to prompt the callback, many many months later where we were offered a additional 25minute treatment as an apology for all the inconvenience. We accepted ( 1hr 20 minute treatment is now expected for me and my partner ). Upon arriving a 3rd time, this being almost a year and a half after we originally purchased our experience, we were told that despite being “a day for two” we would have to go in separately for our treatments and the other partner is expected to just wonder around alone for 55minutes and then switch, as there is only one qualified masseuse, not very romantic at all. Also there was a mistake made in the booking as we were only booked in for a 25minute massage, instead of 55, and that aforementioned 25minute extra treatment that was offered as their apology. So we were still owed the 25 minute massage that we had originally purchased and had not received... **Part 2 on trust pilot**

Fantastic experience: We had booked a SPA day and were extremely impressed with the customer service. When something didn't go to plan, Tobin at the reception was honest and took immediate ownership, and informed the manager. Cameron and Hayley in the beauty service took initiative and offered a brilliant solution, which truly saved the day. I would highly recommend this health club, for the great customer service and experience we had.

Positive experience: Recently joined on a trial with my mother. As we are only interested in swimming pool and spa we can't speak much about other aspects. The place is quite crowded from 6 am and we thought it will be much less populated but it isn't too bad. Swimming pool is decent, quite narrow but not small. Men's showers would really need some better cleaning as you can smell damp/mould and it is visible in soap dispensers in shower cubicles. The only big disappointment is the spa, although saunas are great I still cannot figure out the way spa bubbles work and unfortunately staff is not very helpful and gives you sort of an attitude for the fact that you dared to ask them something. I have been told about green light on the ceiling and the buttons but they do absolutely nothing apart from blinking red and it is quite a big deal for us that we can't use it. If we don't manage to sort it out soon we will be looking for a different fitness centre. If we do however it will be changed to a 5 star review as the centre in general outshines the quirks.

Fantastic experience: My partner and I had a lovely spa experience, it was Christmas present from him to me as I’d never been to a spa before. These ladies are fantastic. Abbey gave me a wonderfully relaxing facial and Very good skincare advice. She was professional, friendly and so helpful. I’m still getting comments on how clear my skin looks! Haley gave my partner a great massage, being careful of his neck injury. We felt very looked after during our spa experience and after our treatments we spent the rest of the afternoon in the spa pool area/sauna/steam room which we thought was very impressive. A great day out and we wish we could do it all over again. Thank you so much Abbey and Hayley!

Fantastic experience: Lovely place, our little one loves the pools, we like the saunas and the steam room, jacuzzi is big and the water is clean, not to harsh for the skin, hair or eyes. Could not enjoy other local indoor swimming pools before but because of the big amounts of bleach used to treat the water but this place feels good. Showers and changing rooms are always clean and lots of room for everyone. I Highly recommend this place. There is a free 2 hours cresh for little ones that can be booked if parents needs a bit of time, very handy for mother's that needs a refreshing break. Not extremely busy , just great

Negative experience: I had the worst experience yesterday, i could not train with my son (15 years old),she spent his time on the basement making push ups, i don't have the time to go earlier until 19:00 to the Gym, i am really disappointed, I pay for a family package but I can't train with my 15 year old son (he is play basketball for the national league) but he can't train with me at the gym, as a life a marathon runner i am very sad for this discrimination!!!!

Positive experience: I am a member for the last 4 years and the price has increased consistently, but no major improvements have been carried out. The showers and lockers are still the old ones in a fairly poor condition… compared to the Collingtree one it’s feels 10 years older the only advantage here being the jacuzzi and larger space. The staff is pretty nice and helpful ☺️

Positive experience: I was a member for 6 months before cancelling. Overcrowding is a MAJOR PROBLEM (before Covid) where so many people are on the gym floor that you would be stood around getting cold waiting for a piece of kit. The whole facility is in serious need of modernisation as the changing rooms and gym areas are dated. If you're looking at spending £50+ on a membership, do yourself a favour and use Collingtree Park, much nicer and doesn't suffer from half of the problems mentioned here. Staff were good. Spa areas are good quality.

Positive experience: Lots and lots of people when you are aiming to use one of the dancing studios. But they are well equipt studios. Harsh contrast between warm and cold when entering the swimming pool area. Really freezing feeling after a hot shower. Spacious sauna with no music, large pre-programmed jacuzzi , steam room.
