Our comment from FitFit UK about Brunel Gym:
Brunel Gym, located in Uxbridge, offers a comprehensive fitness experience that caters to students and locals alike. The gym is praised for its excellent facilities and clean environment. Users consistently compliment the helpful and friendly staff, making workouts more enjoyable. Many appreciate the wide selection of equipment, particularly in the free weights and cardio areas, ensuring that there's something for everyone.
However, there are some drawbacks. The gym can often be overcrowded.
- Users have found the peak hours to be particularly busy, leading to a lack of available equipment.
- Some guests expressed concerns about poor ventilation and uncomfortable conditions during busy times.
- Certain attendees also mentioned the need for improved opening hours and clearer cancellation policies.
Despite these issues, many users believe that Brunel Gym represents great value for money, with facilities that are well-maintained and easy to access. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned fitness enthusiast, Brunel Gym provides a welcoming atmosphere for all.
Brunel Gym: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Good gym Great staff always around to help
Thanks for the 5 stars
Negative experience: Bunch of 18 year old kids staring and taking photos of themselves in the mirror. Gym is overcrowded at peak and non peak times and poor ventilation so stuffy and smell of sweat.
Fantastic experience: Brunel Gym offers an exceptional fitness experience with top-notch facilities, professional staff, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes every workout enjoyable and motivating! @brunelgym.
Positive experience: please change the horrible playlist, im working out, not at my niece's 7th birthday party.
Fantastic experience: nicely maintained gym for students
Positive experience: Squash court is amazing. My daughter likes it and we regularly use the facility. The staff is very helpful and responsive. Thanks.
Thanks for the 4 stars
Negative experience: Always full Awful opening hours
Negative experience: You guys need to update the gym opening hours. This is my second time during the Easter holiday going back home :( don’t make Google say it’s open and just put small notice paper on site
Fantastic experience: Nice and clean
Fantastic experience: Good gym
Negative experience: It's OK but very overpopulated as the students use the gym too. Better gyms locally so I'd avoid
Fantastic experience: It was good
Fantastic experience: Veri nyc
Negative experience: Too small benches are always taken
Negative experience: Not 24/7, old equipment, closed on unnecessary days
Negative experience: Very old, always full , small. In general bad gym
Fantastic experience: Best gym in the area. Clean, fully furnished of any kind of equipment, spacious. Perfect changing rooms and showers. Several parking bays available. Great overall environment and people. Amazing value for money. In my opinion the best gym I've ever joined in and out of the UK.
Thanks for the 5 stars
Negative experience: Machines are always broken not a good gym
Positive experience: There's a lot of exercising equipment to practice and workout. Although the price is a bit high for University members
Thanks for the 4 stars
Fantastic experience: Best gym in hillingdon
Thanks for the 5 stars
Fantastic experience: Well priced, free weights and fixed weights areas. Helpful staff too.
Thanks for the 5 stars
Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff
Thanks for the 5 stars
Fantastic experience: Good quality and excellent service with great value off customers
Fantastic experience: Been training 37 years now and this is the best gym ive trained in for parking, value, top working equipment, never too busy. Plenty of equipment, friendly, helpful staff. Great for older people too. Im now 59 with arthritis and i can use their equiment easilly and have improved muscularly since being a member this year. Big plus is everything is put back where it belongs not just left out so its tidy, safe and clean...
Thanks for the 5 stars
Fantastic experience: Well maintained, hygiene, in addition, to that opens 7 days a week what else you need in a gym
Thanks for the 5 stars
Positive experience: I have no complaints about the service or the infrastructure or the way they maintain it coz they are doing a good job on these everything is like pretty awesome but if I am quite not sure about the trainers coz I never had one or got any opinions on building muscle but the reason I didn’t give that one star is coz they don’t have any proper machine to work on four arms that’s the only thing and it’s quite inconvenient to have the restrooms and changing rooms upstairs I won’t blame them coz they can’t do it in the ground floor coz of space consumption and the timings some times the gym is crazy busy coz there are lot of students coming in and out round the clock so that’s again a drawback. And that’s all njoi your workouts :)
Thanks for the 4 stars
Positive experience: Nice gym, but more needs to be done about the clowns that sit on machines or equipment for ages scrolling through their phone. So annoying. It's meant to be a place to workout, not read emails. I do like how quickly faulty machines are repaired, they put other gyms to shame in that respect.
Thanks for the 3 stars
Negative experience: Good selection of equipment, nice friendly staff, plenty of lockers. Overall great gym, can get crowded at peak hours though *Update* - After trying to cancel the membership I was informed I had to notify them 30 days in advance, this policy seems rather unfair as they were happy to sign me on quickly. So now I am out of pocket for a month of membership that I won't be able to use, these kind of policies should be made clearer,
Positive experience: too busy for its size, even off-peak hours. there is never a bench available but it has everything you really need.
Negative experience: I was there at 7 am and people have already taken all of the machines I wanted to use.
Negative experience: Always full. Too small for the amount of students that live on campus.
Positive experience: This gym is super radical, however it is ALWAYS full, except from the moment it opens and around the last hour of it being open. Hipster, but needs perhaps a limit on people.
Thanks for the 4 stars
Positive experience: Peak hours are incredibly peak !!
Thanks for the 4 stars
Fantastic experience: went to go play squash loved it there
Thanks for the 5 stars
Fantastic experience: Great to start a nice workout regime
Positive experience: Well maintained temperature and blowers setting. Female gym has got very minimal machines to work on, however the other gym is spacious with most of the machines. Really nice staff and ambience
Thanks for the 4 stars
Fantastic experience: If you are a student then the early bird membership is a no brainer, gym has everything you need, nice and clean, spacious, it can get a bit full between 8-9 sometimes but I've never had a problem using the equipment I wanted too. Great gym, great price, public can use for one off charge of £6.
Positive experience: Nice gym, just had a refurbishment… but it’s crazy busy at the moment!
Thanks for the 4 stars
Positive experience: Fairly well equipped given the spacing. However for certain this gym provides exceptional value for money
Thanks for the 4 stars
Fantastic experience: I do enjoy this gym as it is not usually overcrowded during my sessions and all equipment I need is always available and looks tidy. The gym has a separate cardio area, a spacious free weight area which is fairly impressive. One downside for the time being I would say that there is a lack of water coolers (the fountain near reception give warm water which tastes like tap water). Another one is that I feel lack of space for warming up, though it might be my personal preference Also I would add elementary soap dispenser and hairdryers in the shower and changing room. This review is done after about 10 sessions and can be revised or added
Thanks for the 5 stars
Fantastic experience: Great gym great staff really clean
Thanks for the 5 stars
Negative experience: Extremely overcrowded
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and good facilities
Thanks for the 5 stars
Fantastic experience: great gym !
Thanks for the 5 stars
Fantastic experience: Best gym in the area!
Thanks for the 5 stars
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities
Positive experience: Just like what you expect, have most things that you need. If you want everything and cutting edge equipment, here's not the place.
Fantastic experience: Sepertare almost fully equipped womens gym, lots of classes and good instructors. Lots of training equipments available in both ground and 1st floor.
Thanks for the 5 stars
Positive experience: Good gym with all the equipment you would expect. However, very busy from 8pm onwards. Would like to see additional separate cable row and Lat pull down machines as only having one combined row and lat pull down machine is not adequate for such a busy gym.
Fantastic experience: Great venue
Thanks for the 5 stars
Fantastic experience: Very good gym
Fantastic experience: Decent gym but the tunes could be better in my opinion
Fantastic experience: Very good gym for students.
Negative experience: Always too full. Loads of guys off campus taking up equipment from students.
Negative experience: Clearly at max capacity but still signing people on. Ignore the bar chart that shows how busy the gym is that google generates. Anytime between 10am to closing its at 70%+ capacity. Also at LEAST 2 bits of machinery are broken at any given time. And dont think going at 7-8am will help too much too because even then theyre at 50%. Lessons are good as is the workers and equipement (when not broken) but if you're a student prepare for it to be full of adult strangers for off campus and the main gym floor being basically always full. Management needs to stop signing people on and priotise students. Also music is awful. Prepare for a mix of katy perry then some spanish song then rock then k pop then pitbull three times in a row then grime 7 times in a row then the titanic love song.
Fantastic experience: Small but effective gym, has all the free weights you might need but you need to be creative with the workouts
Thanks for the 5
Negative experience: Unfortunately, Brunel promises a lot but delivers nothing: 1. Climbing wall The climbing wall is in the membership brochure but is not really available to gym membership users. You need to contact a separate climbing club who will evaluate you and then you can only attend in club hours. I’ve been climbing for 24 years, I really don’t need supervision over a 2 metre high bouldering wall. In the past you could just turn up at Brunel, be checked for safety and competence, sign a waiver and then be able to just start climbing. 2. Sauna and spa Not only the venue is super dated, unhygienic and with no drinking water (water fountain dead and the water jug put instead was empty with cups rolling on the floor) but also you cannot use it as a gym user. Booking needs to be made on the day and the hotel guests take priority over membership users. If you phone to book a slot but the slot is taken you will be told what the next available slot is and if it’s for the next day, then you will be told you cannot book it- booking only on the day for the day. Since the spa opening after Covid, I’ve tried to get there at least 15-17 times, I was only allowed there once. Really degrading. 3. Gym Gym is comprehensive however the equipment is tired apart from the dumbbells. Not really an issue unless you want to use the cables, which are unbalanced. An actual problem for me is that the floor is dirty and the floor mats that you are supposed to lie on are really, really dirty. I attend in the evenings and wow your head, back and hands hurt after digging into the grit on the floor mats, leaving red scars. Your gym clothes are filthy after lying down. Very uncomfortable if you want to do sit ups, push ups, gymnastics etc. 4. Cancellation You can start paying Brunel at reception straight away and start a membership but nobody from reception will help you if you want to stop your membership. You will be given a number you need to call, then you need to send an email to an external party regarding direct debit. Reception has no real power in the gym, cannot help you with membership issues apart from referring you to somebody/ something else. The staff is polite though. The gym users I came across were polite too.
Positive experience: Good equipment, great free weight, squat, and bench room, adequate cardio machines upstairs, and a good variety of machines.
Thanks for the 4 Tristan
Positive experience: A big and open gym, very nice people, however not enough equipment even though its so big
Thanks for the 5 stars
Positive experience: I hesitate to give this 5* because then other people will turn up and nick the equipment I need. The place just works and the facilities and staff are great. *Edit: dropping another star because it's simply too small and too busy. Equipment is still great.
Thanks for the 5 Nick
Fantastic experience: Very clean. Nice professional people . I use squash courts and Gym. Fair price and easy to use. Tx.
Thanks for the 5
Fantastic experience: Good facilities- staff on hand to assist us new members and also there are online guides on how to use the individual equipment. On-line classes are now available too.
Thanks for the 5stars!
Fantastic experience: Excellent Gym teacher, also the staff in the coffee shop is very welcoming.
Thanks for the 5 stars
Positive experience: Worst music i ever heard in a gym, part from that everything's ok
Fantastic experience: Fantastic service, brilliant facilities. The duty manager is very handsome on Tuesday 25th June 9:00am
