Our comment from FitFit UK about Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex:
The Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex, located in Uxbridge, is a versatile facility offering a range of amenities ideal for both casual and serious fitness enthusiasts. Many users praise the complex for its great swimming pools, including a lovely outdoor lido, which is perfect for warm summer days. The gym is well-maintained, featuring modern equipment and a friendly atmosphere.
Customers often highlight the friendly staff who consistently provide a welcoming experience. The centre hosts various classes catering to all ages and fitness levels, making it an excellent choice for families, especially for children's swimming lessons.
While the complex has much to offer, some users have expressed concerns regarding crowdedness during peak hours and expensive parking options. Additionally, a few have mentioned the need for improvements in cleaning and updating facilities, particularly showers and changing rooms. However, the overall sentiment remains positive as many appreciate the cleanliness and maintenance of the venue.
All in all, Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex stands out as a well-equipped leisure centre, promoting a healthy lifestyle in a family-friendly environment.
Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex: Opinions
Positive experience: Great pool facility, lovely spin studio, and good cafe. Would be good to have more healthy options in the cafe too for more variety. Ordered on the app and it never got accepted after a long duration, and just got refunded - so the app may be a little pointless to order food on. Parking is quite expensive if there for long durations. Clean, overall nice facility.
Fantastic experience: Great for kids swimming classes. The changing area is frequently cleaned and kept top notch. Less showers but with people frequently moving in and out it has not been a problem. Parking spaces available just outside and if you use PayByPhone app and add Hillingdon First cars you get discounted parking rates. It costs £0.70 for 1 hour.
Positive experience: Lovely gym. Staff are super friendly. Only thing missing from the gym is a decent set of free weights. All the other Better gyms I've been to have these. Have raised this a number times.
Fantastic experience: Many and varied classes to fit everybody. Staff are friendly.
Fantastic experience: Without doubt one of the best pools within the M25....its only downside is the lack of private showers!...you can hardly strip naked for proper clean by the pools side?..all round great experience and am looking forward to return for the open air Lido...Staff very helpfull
Negative experience: Paid and displayed in the car park yet received a PCN . Appeal has been rejected even though I have sent a picture of my ticket . Tried ringing the sports centre .. can’t get through . What a joke . Any chance of someone contacting me ?
Negative experience: Terrible they won't even let me swim
Fantastic experience: Amazing Place And Definitely Recommend For U18s
Fantastic experience: Great center, parking is carnage at busy hours
Fantastic experience: The complex has a great unheated lido. If you are into cold water swimming/ cold water immersion therapy this is a great place to go. Outside changing cubicles, toilets. The complex has a cafe but if you come for an early swim (7am/8am) bring your own drink in a thermos cup as cafe does not open until 9am
Fantastic experience: Grest place for a work out,Gym pool
Negative experience: It’s more of a gathering spot for kids than a gym, it’s very hot and humid too. Full full of kids during rush hour.
Positive experience: Nice looking indoor and outdoor pools
Fantastic experience: I come here for swimming when I’m in the area. The pool is fantastic. At certain times, it opens up to 50m. At other, busier times; 25m. Good changing facilities and nice pool side showers. Nicely managed and clean.
Negative experience: If you love your child don’t send them here. The most bad experience we ever had rude management .. Basically they were shouting at my 2 kids Front Of every one. There is no roll no plan the place is running by luck ..
Fantastic experience: Good value for money! Reading all previous reviews, I must say I disagree with most of them. This is a leisure centre and not a Spa Centre, it is very clean and yes it's crowded at rush hour but not that crowded during peak times. For the money you pay, you get a decent gym, sauna, steam room and a lovely swimming pool , never tried the playground, like badminton but looks decent. I am definitely returning as for the area this is actually a good leisure centre, I've seen worse.
Fantastic experience: Nice clean and good maintained leisure centre with friendly helpful staff
Negative experience: Absolutely rubbish service with the team at better in Hillingdon, booked badminton at court 3pm and nobody has come and it's been past 3:20pm
Fantastic experience: Good indoor swimming pool with temperature control.
Fantastic experience: Great start to the day!
Negative experience: terrible. I went here for swimming lessons and they didn’t bother teaching. they just talked to eachother. I came here today for a swim for all and I asked for a test. on the way back, I barely touched the side and then they said that I can’t swim in the pool. I was literally with an adult watching over me. they said that I cannot retake or even go to the pool next to it (the shallow one) it’s not like I’m going to drown in water that is up to my stomach bro waste of money do not come here. the lifeguards are rude and don’t do their job properly. waste of money terrible place will not be coming again
Fantastic experience: Last Saturday morning I was able to attend the Hour of Power class led by Gavin Turner, an amazing experience I suggest anyone to be part of. If you really want to be fit and healthy and achieve 100% score in your fitness goals, you should definitely try this class. Well done Gavin and Team H.O.P.
Negative experience: did not allow balls, no bellyflop no flips very boring and when i did a cartwheel infront of the pool, they told me off and they kicked me out, worst leisure ever i prefer high grove.
Fantastic experience: Great clean facilities and good staff
Fantastic experience: The place is spacious, the equipment are very well maintained
Fantastic experience: Good atmosphere, kind staff, and new, diverse gym machines.
Fantastic experience: Great swimming pools especially the lido
Fantastic experience: Amazing place to host sports, everything is so neat and up to perfection. Absolutely brilliant experience
Negative experience: Staff was rude and would not stop following us around as well as wasting most of our time do bot recommend as they also ask to many personal questions making us all uncomfortable.
Negative experience: they treated me VERY poorly, wasted most of our time and workers were rude and not understanding.
Negative experience: Horrible, workers and staff were rude Wasted our time Would let us go into the pool for no reason Would definitely not recommended Never coming back
Fantastic experience: I love working out with the great view on the playing fields. It is also great to pop in on my way from work. Staff is friendly and always helpful. Perhaps one day I will try the pool but at the moment it is too busy.
Fantastic experience: great leisure centre has a gym outdoor swimming pool astro athletics feild
Positive experience: Clean, ample parking space . It is pay and display. Nice pool . Clean and there is also outdoor pool too . There are life guards too.
Negative experience: This is the worst branch today 8th June 2024, I booked 2 sessions in learner pool, we went in with the babies for 10 mins then the next thing they asked us to leave because its overcrowded we asked another staff she said its technical issue but obviously didn’t synchronize her lie with the other staff, in the end they closed it down and the kids were crying and they spoiled the day out for us great job guys, the place is absolutely disorganized the managers are useless there they always push staff to deal with problems in order for them not to deal with upset customers The swimming pool is always busy with events and school classes, so expect that as a member you will get the least priority for your swimming fitness, I cancelled my direct debt and membership and asked about 5 people from friends and family to cancel too and join different one
Fantastic experience: I go there to learn swimming as a beginner. I must say the instructors are very well trained very friendly.
Negative experience: I have been a member of HSLC for about five years, before and after it was taken over by Better. I only use the gym. I have just cancelled as I can't justify the price for what is available any more. The price has gone up by almost 40% in 3 years. This is way above inflation. At about £65 a month, it's almost on David Lloyd levels now, which is ridiculous for an organisation that claims to be not-for-profit. I would have put up with this though, as to be fair they have made some great improvements to the equipment lately. But this is no good if you can't get on the equipment. This problem was caused when, about 6 months ago, they started offering £20 membership to under-18s. Predictably, the gym is now absolutely rammed with kids, and it's hard to get on any equipment. When you do manage to, you're constantly plagued by kids asking how many sets you've got left. Why do I pay £65 to subsidise these kids' memberships and not be able to do my own workout? A sensible idea would have been to make it so the £20-a-month membership doesn't allow access to the free weights floor, but this wasn't considered. So please enjoy waiting while a horde of 15 year olds lift 2.5kg on the Smith Machine, it's not like you came here to have a workout is it?! So, better@HSLC, if your strategy was to force out your full-paying members and pack the place with kids paying £20 a month, congratulations, it's working! A small tip for anyone in the same situation - try The Gym Group in Uxbridge. At about £20 a month it's less than a third of the cost of HSLC and adults aren't treated as cash cows.
Fantastic experience: Great stay, staff were excellent.
Fantastic experience: Stunning day with my little 3yo at the pool, which is pretty decent and well looked after. Facilities impressed me and will defo be returning for more swimming with the little princess
Fantastic experience: Staffs were very friendly, place is kept very clean and a lot of lockers (£1 coin per use and you will get the £1 back after used), there is a cafe just right next to the gate by the entrance. Outdoor and indoor swimming Pool is large.
Negative experience: Arrived at the centre with my friend for a casual swim as regulars. The lady receptionist started bombarding us with new pieces of information. She told us that we only had 50 mins to swim which had not been the case inover the many previous times we had taken to the pool. She also told us that we could not pay for 2 people using the same card. When asked to speak to her manager, she had no problem. The manager was slightly better in understanding the illogical flaw within the system and all the restbof it. Parking is expensive too. £3.00 for 90 mins. Looking for another venue...!!!
Fantastic experience: Nice staff. Warm pool but not too warm for lane swimming. Clean as well. Dont let the fact Boris Johnson opened it put you off. The outdoor pool has been there at least 50 years and it gets popular in the Summer. I've used the Sauna but not the Gym.
Fantastic experience: Great place to swim or workout, plenty of parking too. A very cool art deco outdoor pool if you're brave enough.
Positive experience: There toilets and shower rooms are very old and need refurbishing. The hair dryers also don't work they turn off randomly.
Fantastic experience: New equipment, well done Better! I love spinning with @Seray PT on those new bikes, they are amazing!
Fantastic experience: Cafe is awesome, great coffee and snacks! The whole venue is amazing, especially the outdoor pool area.
Positive experience: If I was scoring Vicky's acquafit class that I attended at this centre I would be scoring 10 stars!! It was fabulous!! However, I am being asked to review this centre as a whole. And it was disappointing. For such a relatively new and supposed flagship in the London Borough of Hillingdon, it's once impressive Essex is now really quite shabby, tired and dirty looking. The changing rooms don't have showers, you have to shower pool side so of course you can't shower properly, merely rinse yourself off. And on Monday 2 of the 6 showers were out of order so people were queuing to rinse off!! The place needs some investment to spruce it up and make it shine. I don't blame Better, as they are likely not to be getting the right funds for running it from the council. Like a lot of things right now this service is probably being asked to provide a lot for very little!! Lastly, I would like to thank the staff who were warm and friendly and very helpful.
Positive experience: Nice and clean but people don't always wear a cap whilst they are in the pool.
Fantastic experience: Great pool outdoor and heated indoor Awesome gym Sauna and steam must try
Fantastic experience: I swapped my children’s swimming lessons from Highgrove in Ruislip to Hillingdon Sports & Leisure complex and wish I had done it sooner. The swimming space is so much bigger and the instructors are more focused. It has a really nice atmosphere and the children are enjoying it a lot more. They are getting their skills reviewed very frequently which was not happening at Highgrove. It has three different pools for all age groups and abilities. In the West London area, this has to be one of the nicest places with the exception of your premium Gym facilities like David Lloyd’s.
Fantastic experience: Modern venue, very friendly & helpful staff, excellent facilities. Excellent car parking.
Positive experience: Easy to book online, decent sized car park. Kiddies pool appears to integrate with adult splash area so small mixed pool, but suits my granddaughter. Showers close by. Shoe covering dispenser before pool area. Could do with better parent/kiddies changing facilities and cleanliness but that just my opinion. Decent cafe available too
Negative experience: I found my experience really poor and even the staff/lifeguards were rude. I came in for my session at 4pm, leisure swimming activity for all and I couldn’t even use the bloody swimming pools at all, they said you’re not allowed to? What did I pay my money for? Terrible would give 0 stars.
Fantastic experience: It is so much better than it used to be More professional. Booking system works very well online .Changing rooms and all other facilities clean and well maintained. Congratulations to all involved.
Fantastic experience: Good place to take the kids they enjoyed the family swim time. Shame its only on during the holidays as term Time the weekends are taken by swim lessons. And not much space available. Hope they fix this soon.
Fantastic experience: My 7&9-year-old children do weekly swimming lessons here, the people who run them are amazing and the center is clean and nice... I also go to the Learner Pool with my three-year-old which is clean, warm and fun.
Fantastic experience: Played badminton. Good courts, nice set up. Very cheap parking if you have the Hillingdon First card.
Positive experience: I like coming here for swimming but lately the filtration seems inadequate in the pool. There are drifts of crud and hairbands laying on the bottom of the pool. Gross.
Fantastic experience: Latest: in summer, try the outdoor pool out. Its like being on holiday!Trouble free swimming here. You have to book a slot, which gives you confidence it won't be rammed. I'll go again. It's significantly cheaper to swim before 4 pm. The place is clean throughout. However, I would like to be able to shower "au naturelle" rather than in trunks by the pool. This can be achieved if the group changing rooms are open but not in use.
Positive experience: Pretty standard gym, however bunch of machines are out of order and have not been fixed. Additionally, the rubber on the machine handles also need replacing
Fantastic experience: Fabulous centre. Always clean and tidy, helpful staff, plenty of activities for all ages and abilities.
Fantastic experience: I have been attending Spin Class on a Wednesday evening at 19:15 with Seray at the Better Leisure Center in Uxbridge. She is Awesome and my strength and fitness has improved measurably. Thank you Seray see you next Wednesday
Fantastic experience: Just got a membership here. Lovely place with a lot of different activities. Always clean enough.
Negative experience: The gym and pool itself are all fine , no issues But never park there , worst car park I’ve been to in 8 years , I’ve had my van done over twice in a month , no security cameras alarm in van going off , ignored. Not worth the gym membership for that agro Facilities staff all good Just watch out in their car park as they charge you enough for nothing
Positive experience: Very nice sport venue. I was there for a swimming meet. Only negative side was the limited space in the gallery view.
Fantastic experience: It is noticeable how well run it is . There is a generous availability of facilities . Blue covers are offered for shoes while around pool area.
Negative experience: Poor swimming class management. Since 3 months every day new teacher in my child group. Profile haven't been updated for 3 months and updated last time after complain. My child' s friends who were in same hat in the previous group have been moved to silver hat. What a awful thing happening, everybody can imagine. Main thing is my child can't see future in this pool apart from daily exercise. As a parent, I can only write comment and look my child leaving behind.
Positive experience: Got alot of time for this place. Gym facilities are really good. Swimming pools are good but always busy. Lido is emmense. Now they've got the cafe sorted out its all pretty fab.
Fantastic experience: The pools are clean, large and accommodate 50m lanes. Outdoor lido is great. Love this leisure centre ❤️
Positive experience: Excellent facilities and friendly staff but avoid the outdoor pool like the plague in after school hours if you want to do lane swimming. Far too full of kids/big kids screaming, running and dive bombing. Ruins the peace and makes an actual workout impossible
Fantastic experience: Visited this sports centre today, absolutely amazing, equipment and space is perfect. The lovely staff member Momtaaz was awesome, very helpful, kind and professional. An absolute superb ambassador for the company who will go far in life.
Negative experience: Staff not helpful. A life guard called Immy was too much disturbing us during our time in the swimming pool. We came to enjoy while she kept whistling at us all the time. Kids were crying, she did not let us have fun swimming. Annoying and not good. I do not recommend
Positive experience: Great gym apart from one drawback! You can never guarantee an arm workout using dumbells especially weight 3kg and 4kg. On several occasions myself and a member of staff had to hunt high and low without success leaving me without a planned workout which is so annoying. I suggest a ruling no weights be removed from gym and an extra set of 3kgs and 4kgs be bought in as they seem to be the more popular weight
Fantastic experience: Apart from the fact that "single gym users" park in family bays and that there are tight spots everywhere else - we had a pleasant visit to the centre - swim with toddlers in the small pool. SOME CONSIDERATION NEEDED!
Positive experience: Clean & staff helpful. Unable to book although 7 days in advance & have to go on wait list. Also if I want a swim after Aqua keep fit I have to book that separate, so need to know the rules before joining (took me 3 visits to find out!).
Positive experience: Visit regularly to use the indoor sports courts. It's quite hot inside with no aircon or fan, but overall facilities are well equipped! Gym, pool, sports courts, shower facilities are all available. The staff are not very tentative and very hard to reach them on the phone.
Positive experience: Have been playing badminton there regularly. Since Better took over, the sports hall has been refreshed and looks much better. In terms of setting up the nets on time and lighting, they have to up their game.
Positive experience: Clean changing rooms but the showers in the female group room were too hot
Negative experience: I m really disappointed about my first time visit Hillingdon sports & Leisure Complex one of the Staff member were really Rude they use really bad Language unprofessional staff Don’t west your money I paid 18.40£ for 2 hours but I only swim only 45 minutes one of staff member he is Racist
Positive experience: Decent enough council run facility however they let in too many people meaning lifeguard asked us and toddler to go into main pool which was far too cold. The kiddie pool could be better
Fantastic experience: I went here for the first time ever last week and honestly left feeling so good. Staff here are soooo friendly and helpful, I got totally lost (trying to find the pool and ended up in the gym!) but staff there helped me and had a great swim! :)
Fantastic experience: Good gym, even when its busy there is still free equipment to use. Pool temperatures are great, easy to use and facilities for changing etc are easy to find.
Positive experience: Love the outside pool, limited space in the inside pool during the week due to lessons taking most of the pool area, however overall pretty good leisure centre
Fantastic experience: Really great outdoor pool to cool off summer heat. But the indoor pool is a bit crowded. Nice facilities outside with open shower and locker with a pound.
Negative experience: Terrible! Sunday 4th december 2022 my son and his best freind were deciding to go swimming ! When his freind got to go in because she took the test my son took the test but he lost breath in his body and the manager was very rude and didn’t let him continue ! I understand it’s safety rules but I’ve never seen this type of manager !
Fantastic experience: Staff friendly , very helpful with my enquiry with my client to swim providing me with all the relevant information I required , Nice new interior, busy centre Love the facilties, thats on offer for being out of Borough and for disabled people , free car parking for disabled, otherwise reasonable cost on price to use the car park for other members, Inside and outside pool area, Outside swimming ♂️ pool attractive for the avid swimmers like me , Seen all the ladies cleaning out the swimming pool drains today , working hard keeping the standards high, Great to see , Entrance by membership card and you receive a coloured wristband for your time slot session, New cafe taken over, Popular centre , multi facilties available Update : Busy today with kids on half term Lovely to see Valentine balloons in the main reception to greet us Aŕm bands identify us to certain areas of swimming ♂️ in time allocation New cafe up and running
Fantastic experience: The best leisure centre for me! I am always in awe with the nature in front of me whilst running in the treadmill. Cleanliness is well-maintained and staff are polite. The sauna and steam, however, are not available most of the time. They should open until 8pm as most users are working during office hours.
Negative experience: Absolutely shocking paid for myself and my 3 children got in the 10m2 of pool we was allowed in because of all the swimming lessons going on to be told I have to leave because I’m only allowed to have 2 children to watch so if your a single parent with more than 2 kids your not allowed to go swimming!!!
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre with almost all the amenities including kids activities like swimming.. very well maintained swimming pool and trained staffs for both Kids and adults
Fantastic experience: I only been once here but impressed with the size of the badminton courts which can be multi-purpose used. We didn't try swimming pool there but it was busy when we visited. They do have a pub at walking distance and serves alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages and hot food too.
Positive experience: SPA not available all the time, I don't know why. It closes fairly early and must be booked. The pool will sometimes host events and will therefore not be available to the members who are paying for this service monthly.
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff at this venue I rarely post reviews, but thought I should with this one since the services and attention my family and I have been receiving from day 1 when signing up to the kid swimming and swim doctor are second to none really. Wendy and Charlotte you two are stars and angels in one body, keep it up You make this place feels like home.
Fantastic experience: I recently took Wendy's swim lessons, and let me tell you, she's like the Michael Phelps of swim teachers. Except with better hair, of course. Wendy's enthusiasm for swimming is contagious, and she has a way of making even the most reluctant swimmers feel at ease. Her teaching style is like a blend of Mr. Miyagi and Spongebob Squarepants, which might sound weird but trust me, it works. But let's talk about the pool itself. It's like swimming in a tropical paradise. I'm pretty sure I saw a dolphin doing backflips in the deep end. And the water? So clear and blue that it made me feel like I was in a fancy spa, not a public pool. Thanks to Wendy's expert guidance, I went from flapping around like a seal to doing synchronized swimming routines with the lifeguards. Okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the point. In summary, if you're looking for a swim teacher who will make you feel like an Olympic champion and give you hair envy at the same time, then Wendy is your gal. She's like the fairy godmother of swimming, but instead of turning pumpkins into carriages, she turns floaties into speedboats
Positive experience: Clean , tidy and very well organzed place for kids birthday parties and swimming training. Staff was courteous and helpful. Parking is a bit expensive if you are not local.
Negative experience: Apparently this pool has become a private business it is no longer for the people who pay taxes in Hilingdon. The staff speak badly, the pool areas are not marked. Even if there is a sign that you have to take off your shoe before entering the pool area, some employees enter with dirty and muddy shoe . I am very disappointed with this place.
Negative experience: Terrible experience all round. I haven't been swimming in 10 years and as a wheelchair user it was recommended to me. I called beforehand and was told I could just turn up and book a swim rather than pre-book. On arrival, the woman at reception couldn't care less and booked us in for a swim in the "learner pool" - is this where three male adults normally swim? Bit suss if so. We waited for 10 minutes in our swimming costume to be told there were swimming lessons in the main pool - why didn't they tell us on entry? The manager who must have started that day then blamed us for not booking beforehand - I was told on the phone we didn't need to pre-book though? I called him out on his rudeness and incompetence. We asked for the pool hoist... they didn't bother to arrange it. A member of staff didn't give me any eye contact and spoke directly to my non-disabled friend and was asking questions about me directly to him "does he need help getting into the pool?" - maybe need some training on diversity and inclusion or maybe basic manners. They did allow us access to 1/5 of the pool where the swimming lessons didn't take place so I will give them that. Good disabled changing rooms and showers but wouldn't return due to the discrimination.
Negative experience: Very poorly run and they have made it difficult for customers to contact them. I was hoping to start with this gym on a GP Exercise Referral scheme for health reasons with a view to joining permanently once finished. But instead, a once previously easy process of 1 day between receipt of referral and joining the scheme has now become unnecessarily complicated with a waiting list that takes 4-8 weeks to even get the paperwork started - then going back and forth waiting for their response with no outcome. So far, this organisation has shown absolutely no customer care and so my family and I will look elsewhere. I’ve never known anything like this from a gym. Awful!
Negative experience: I dont know about membership but if u you r not member and decided to go you have to pay for everything separately swimming sauna and e.t.c. even parking if you forgot your Hillington card get ready to pay up to 3-4 pounds on the top. No showers only on side of swimming pool so u can't even shower properly after session and need wait for ages to use them. comparing with other leisure centers small sauna and steam you even can't rest after or sit ar lay down as no resting room, shoes free zone doesn't work at all so everyone can go to swimming pool area as example parents who take them kids for swimming lessons and waiting them kids freely walking around without shoe covers and staff seems not really bothers at all so hygiene wise not good, really disappointed ain't going again...
Negative experience: I wish I could give zero stars. Swimming water is cold, kids hate to swim in the cold waters.. The temperature of the swimming area is nice and warm but alas the waters are cold. My kids shiver each time there are in and out of the pool, they don’t like to go swimming. This is happening from the last 7-8 years and instead of repeatedly telling to the staff and managers it has not improved. The cafe is closed at 3pm (the centre closes at 10pm), so much inconvenience. Hair dryers are always non-functional. Pathetic conditions of the toilets in the swimming pool area.
Positive experience: It's a nice pool specially in the summer when the outside is open to but they charge alot more for outdoor use. Went today had a changing room with a baby change which was falling off the wall Nappy left in there floors grimey.
