Fantastic experience: Visited Beauty within a salon that's within Total Fitness.Very cosy and relaxed. Not pretentious Make you feel welcome.Massage was good and worthwhile.

Negative experience: I really enjoy coming here but........ for many, many weeks now, the changing rooms (ladies) have been in dire need of attention. The spinner for the wet items is no longer there. Today, every changing room had puddles all over the floor because this machine is gone. People get dried and dressed into their outdoor shoes, stepping into the puddles of water and the floors are filthy as a result. The showers themselves are temperamental - sometimes the proximity sensor works and sometimes they don't. There are only about 6 private cubicles in the ladies - not everyone wants to strip naked in front of others. There are often showers and toilets out of action. The whole wet side for the ladies could do with a total upgrade. On a plus side, the facilities outside of the changing rooms are great. The machines and the pool are fantastic. The staff are great. Shame that the changing rooms let it all down.

Negative experience: Disgusting costumer service! Can never get through to the actual person they try to put you through to and still waiting 2 months on for my son’s swimming lessons membership to be cancelled but they continue to charge me. Avoid at all costs

Positive experience: Fantastic pool. Very polite lifeguards. Just one small minor, pool lanes need to be more signed(visually), ie, slow, medium and fast. Check out Bolton Total Fitness, one lane for fast and rest of pool for all other swimmer's. Otherwise, beautiful pool and approachable staff. Love it!

Fantastic experience: Nice place, lots of equipment so even in rush hours a always will find something to do, swimming pool can be busy, and the saunas, can't complain.

Negative experience: Dreadful experience at Preston Total Fitness. It was hotter than hell and impossible to work out properly, as they don’t have a proper air con system. Preston staff said head office would not let them lower the temperature. Head office couldn’t have cared less. I had a massive battle to cancel my membership and my request for partial refund of the joining fee and subs has been ignored. Lots of clunky old equipment that needs fixing, tiny crowded steam room and sauna, poor choice of peak time classes. Now at Preston Nuffield which is far superior. Beware if you are thinking of joining this gym.

Fantastic experience: Love this gym. Been a member with them since 2007. Did try other gym around but still come back to them. Well lit environment to do your workout and roomy as machines are not squeeze next to each.

Negative experience: Join a different gym this place is badly run,, for the money there's better. Machines (very old). Weights (limited) most of your session will be spent wondering around looking for weights. Staff (un helpfull) Kids plenty of them thought the min age was 16 however 10 yrs using equipment as parents train (dangerous) Try to leave hound you constantly. There's a pure gym about 5min drive 15min walk from this place join that instead

Negative experience: 1 star due to opening times members are not happy. Got kicked out of the pool at 6.30 you need to open till at least 9pm on a Saturday some of us work the weekend and can’t access the gym we all pay for monthly. Head office please sort this out!!!!

Negative experience: I started swimming lessons for my baby once a week for 56£ a month which already is a ridiculous price considering what the lesson consists of(practically nothing). The adults lesson taught before my slot would always over run meaning I was waiting around for 20-30 minutes longer and finishing mine later which was annoying as would have appointments and things which I would then miss. On top of this the swim coach for the adults class just before my babies lesson thought it'd be appropriate to completely death stare me, humiliate me infront of about 15 people in her class and rudely navigate me back to the changing rooms as I was on call to my dr explaining I would be late due to her lesson over running. I was not aware of the no phone rule (and could be faulted as my own) however this then led to an argument infront of my 6 month old which she had the cheek to say "Infront of your baby" insinuating I was a bad mother. My swim coach had actually seen the whole thing and was absolutely disgusted in the way she treated me making a comment that no staff should talk to anybody like that and he even has parents that bring their phone to his lessons and people will just kindly ask them to put it away. I will advise anyone not to waste their money here, as a single mother doing an extremely great job I was absolutely mortified this happened. I should NOT be crying because of a staff member just as I am about to do a 'fun' activity with my child.

Negative experience: Customer service is dreadful, they were not helpful at all. No matter when you contact them, you get an auto reply saying they are experiencing a high number of emails, trying to ring them is a waste of time too. You can't cancel your membership if you missed a payment, you also can't use the gym so you have to pay for something you can't even use. The gym is ridiculously hot all the time. They got rid of 90% of the mat space and replaced it with more benches. Downstairs there is a big area which people aren't allowed to use because it's reserved for a PT session that never seems to happen. They keep jacking up the price. For the off peak, there are a limited choice of classes and some of them start early so you turn up late cause you can't actually get in until 10am. On a weekend, you can't get in until the afternoon. The swimming pool and hydrotherapy shuts early every single day. The temperatures of those and the spasfluctuate a lot, sometimes they can be cold, sometimes hot. Overall, just go to another gym.

Fantastic experience: The best Gym I've been to in Preston, It's never that busy, compared to JD and Pure which are cheaper but are constantly busy. I regularly use the weights and running track. I haven't managed to use the pool yet but it never seems too busy.

Negative experience: I wanted to use this place to access their sauna. Didn’t allow day passes which was annoying. Didn’t read that anywhere on their site.

barbara tigar 1 year ago

Positive experience: This club has everything you could want, monthly fee covers (most) classes in gym and pools and wet area. Good ghanging facilities but can get busy e.g. before and after a popular class. I mainly swim and try to find a quiet time but it can get busy in the main pool. Main negative points the pool is checked for chemical cleanliness but not particles. Lots of debris on the bottom of the pool which us off-putting....Sand, plasters, hair etc which I don't like ...this happened more frequently a number of years ago when they relaxed the rule to wear a swimming cap (when they changed the cleaning regime). Staff usually very helpful when asked.

Negative experience: I couldn’t discourage someone enough away from this gym! As a student (at the time) local to this gym, I joined in November of 2023, wanting to train once a week during a busy timetable. I signed up with the intent to use a membership till the end of the year (dec 2023) however was sold a 12 month membership under false pretences costing me £40 a month. As a student this was not suitable for me. From January they began to take payments from my bank without my knowledge. In attempts to cancel this, they stated that I did not meet the correct requirements to cancel a 12 month membership (which was sold under false pretences). I live 18 miles away from this branch and would only train there once a week when I was attending university. Following this, being falsely sold this membership caused unnecessary stress as a student who cannot afford to spend 40 pounds a month on something they would no longer use. It has taken me 22 weeks to cancel this membership. Absolutely no communication from this branch, with little to no help in aid of cancellation. Would not recommend any total fitness gym.

Negative experience: Staff constantly flirting with each other, not very professional. Only see the same staff member's working hard A good gym shame the management have no control.

Madeline Goodman Green 1 year ago

Positive experience: Good equipment, good swimming pools except they are extremely dirty. Same with changing rooms, hair everywhere. Ever since they changed the gym, there is nothing for kids. Got rid of the ping pong, the pool table and the football table. Also all the red equipment for kids has gone. But on the good side, squash is really fun. The running track is good and the steam room and sauna is great.

Mark Fisher 1 year ago

Positive experience: Good free weight space, 200m running track, plate loaded, pin loaded equipment, you can play squash, go for a swim, sauna just a good place to go and fairly priced for what you get.

Alison McDougall 1 year ago

Positive experience: Lovely staff big pool two saunas and massive jacuzzi The only downside is the cafe the food and choice is very poor with plastic chairs and slow service If it had more to offer it would be an asset I won’t even buy a coffee as it lacks ambience and efficiency

Negative experience: My husband was asked to leave the spinning class on Tuesday because he was late, he immediately left because the instructor showed him up in front of the class, our friends said she was obviously on a power trip. I was also very embarrassed when a parent from our nursery school told me about the incident. I went in to speak with the manager after waiting nearly an hour, to explain it could’ve been dealt with in a more professional manner. He said he would look into it, after ringing again today for an update still no answers to why the instructor was so rude… never mind plenty of other gyms we can join in the area without being insulted!!!!

Negative experience: I took my grandson who is nearly one swimming it was early morning so I would expect the changing rooms and the showers to be clean.I had such a bad experience. The Family changing room was dirty the changing facility was too. We got out of the pool as he was cold, the family shower was dirty it hadn’t been cleaned. I put him in the playpen whilst I got our clothes out of the locker It was wet with him dripping water. I got him dressed as he was blue with being cold, because the playpen was wet I had to sit him on the dirty floor whilst I got dressed on his towel and all his joggers got wet. I had to change them in the car with his spare ones. Not a good experience.

Negative experience: Please fix your steam room. Why do members have to resort to bringing in little plastic bags to cover the thermostat to get some steam, I have mentioned this to your staff now for over 6 months, it’s daming when they also agree. The manager says. “ it is way it is”

Positive experience: The swimming facilities are good (when they keep on top of the cleaning) the hydro pool is amazing The gym unfortunately is not great. The machines are old and rickety. I was on a squeaky bike with my headphones on and someone came over and begged me to move onto another one. The free weights section is tiny and overall not a well planned layout upstairs The ladies section is quite big and I like it. I got a sandwich from the 'healthy' cafe once. Despite it still having 2 days left on the sell by date the bread was super stale and the egg mayo was a dry block in the middle. There was one mouldy cherry tomato in the whole sandwich. Please do better!

Fantastic experience: The gym is amazing! It's equipped with the latest and greatest facilities, from cardio machines and weightlifting equipment to 200m running track around the gym. The locker room is clean and well-maintained, and the person who showed me around wasn't pushy at all and answered all my questions. Overall, it's a top-notch gym that I would highly recommend.

Positive experience: Lots of equipment to trading with and very spacious. Love the running track, steam room / sauna and the hydro pool. The spinning bikes could do with upgrading though, they are at least 15 years old.

Marc Knowles 2 years ago

Negative experience: Very poor customer service. Gym is run down and doesn't reflect it's price point. Only joined this gym to use the functional equipment but now half of it is cordened off to be used for squad sessions that requires an extra payment and even get asked not to use other equipment as PT's or coaches want to use it . A dedicated area is set up for squad sessions but coaches don't use it and take over other areas of the gym making pre planed training almost impossible. Non of this was mentioned when we joined feel like we have been completely miss sold a gym membership. Water fountains not working for days and not offered an alternative.not what you expect from a higher priced gym so disappointed with this place and it keeps deteriorating each week won't be renewing our membership much better quality, equipped gyms at a better price in the area.

Fantastic experience: A wide assortment of equipment and activities. Large gym so never overcrowded when I've been there. Clean and well set out. Staff are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly

Daniella 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I had never stepped foot into a gym before I became a member here. It's absolutely wonderful. All of the staff are lovely, they are so accommodating and really knowledgeable. There are personal trainers here that are happy to help with any questions and offer services at really reasonable prices. The list of classes available for members is extensive and easy to book on the app! There are so many different machines and areas to use, there's even a Ladies Room with a great variety of equipment if, like me, sometimes you're a bit anxious about being in the main gym room. The changing rooms and showers are always very clean. There are great hairdryers and the lockers are a really good size. There's a sauna in each changing rooms aswell as pool side. I could go on and on about why I think this place is worth the membership price, but I'll just finish with the fact that I've only been coming here 2 weeks and was super anxious and worried at first, but I've never felt more at home.

Omar Ismail 2 years ago

Positive experience: Nice total fitness. Has everything you need. Not as big as Wilmslow but decent size and not too busy at 5pm. Could do with an extra bench in free weights area. Plates are not as new as in Altrincham or Wilmslow. Will come back when local You need to enter your car registration for free parking on some tablets near the changing rooms. This requirement is really not made clear when you walk in and I would suggest the staff put a sign near the entrance scanner - I can see from reviews a few people got caught out!

chris smith 2 years ago

Positive experience: I do like this gym, the staff are friendly and helpful and the place is kept pretty clean. If you intend to cycle to the gym I would say don't bother, the cycle racks are not fit for purpose and a member of staff told me they get a lot of bike thefts from there (come on Total Fitness it's not expensive to put decent racks there)! Hydrotherapy pool is good and car parking is never a problem. The Cafe is pretty good for snacks and drinks too.

Jamie Walker 3 years ago

Negative experience: They use ParkingEye for their car park. 'Free trial' cost me a fine as I wasn't told I needed to submit my reg plate. The gym made me come back in to get my proof of attendance which didn't even work. In reality they could just have it cancelled themselves, but they wont. Strange place.

Fantastic experience: Belta total fitness, main training site is aintree but often use this when I'm down preston ways, it's an absolute belta. Massive running track around the circumference of the gym, with loads of space in the middle for all the gym equipment, barbells and equipment. There's loads of equipment too, both machine and plate loaded. Big dumbbell rack with good range of weight too. Also functional / CrossFit style area too with rig, bumpers and other stuff. Nicely set out too.

John Porter 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Great facilities with everything you need to work out plus saunas, steam, solarium and hydropool for relaxing! Free weights area isn't huge but there are plenty of machines and lots of open space to carry weights to which is also encouraged.

Elvy Crissy 3 years ago

Positive experience: The gym was better than I initially expected. Some of the equipment had some wear and tear rust on them. The pools were all nice. The steam rooms good enough. They could include some glasses for the water fountain. The reception lady that picked up my call could not answer my question and instead gave me false information, fortunately I was able to get the right information from her colleague.

Fantastic experience: Great swimming pools, lovely staff, and cafe.

Donna Brook 3 years ago

Negative experience: Cleanliness has gone downhill , items not being fixed when broken , gym manager hides I his office which has moved upstairs so no one can find him popular drinks not being replaced ,cold showers ,no assessment like used to be to help people that are not confident and want to lose weight, no equipment lone for swimmers, and no where to put swim equipment so you don't have to bring it in everyday .swimmers pay same rate as gym and class members but don't get same equipment. And I aswell as lot of people ate scared the pools going to closed also think they are using lack of chlorine a way to get out of it it's going to be cost of heating the pool and the gym mental health is bad enough as it is without closing pools and gyms down.

Sam Andrew 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Needs a few more free weight benches for peak times, other than that perfect

Ed P 3 years ago

Negative experience: don’t visit this gym at peak times even when you leave personal belongings by a weight or a machine it always gets stolen and hogged for about 30 minutes

Emma Rego 3 years ago

Negative experience: If I could give 0, I’d give a 0. During the pandemic this gym signed me up to the most expensive price and took the monthly payment out of my account twice. I ended up paying over £150 for a gym I never went to. I was staying for two months and then heading back to london. I wanted something short term and easy. It took me weeks to get the money they took back and never received a single apology for charging twice. Unprofessional, poorly run and certainly uneducated. Poor customer service as ‘ladies’ put the phone down on my three times. Definitely find yourself a better quality gym.

Sandy 2012 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: The BESTEST health club ever. Absolutely loved this place. I visited this place for a workout and a swim while passing through Lancashire, and I so wish there was a health club just like this one where I live. It is like a huge mini-indoor arena that combines all kinds of fitness stuff from weights area and HIIT training to swim and athletic running track, all in one! If you imagine you are going to a big house, it's not like there is a sitting room, then a study room, then an entertainment room, then the kitchen next and the bathroom after. It's like all-in-one big open plan. When I was there (a weekday evening), it was packed, and the lighting was a bit more dim than how it looks in photos (loved it - and those who are a little shy with their body shape would also love it), so it's like when you go dancing, it's not a small place with half a dozen or so people watching you. It's like a huge club packed with dozens and dozens - if not hundreds - dancing like no one's watching, so if you're a bit more aware and self-conscious of your body shape, it can help, as you are just one in so many in a huge place. Also loved the clean and nice changing area and shower (for women at least - don't know about men's but I have no reason to doubt it would be any less), so that's a plus. So all of the above is pretty much 'Pro'. As for 'Con'? I can't think of any, but if I were to insist, the only feedback that I would say to the management is: "Please expand to other parts of the UK, and open your clubs like this one in Greater London and the South East!" Thank you.

Negative experience: So iv been a member for 10 months tried taking my 4month old baby in the pool I had to use one of my passes which I don’t mind but then I had to use another for my mrs just for her to sit at the side and watch our boy in the pool for all of the 10mins he’s in there . Then whilst I’m the pool my mrs got one of the noodle floats off the side for my son to hold on to and the young female lifeguard come over and told her to put it back as it’s for the classes (we’ll they should be locked away) I will NOT be renewing my pass in the future I wouldn’t mind the facilities aren’t any better than other gyms and for nearly £50 p/m there definitely not any cheaper than any of the gyms

Positive experience: Spacious, love the run track and hydro pool.

Gemma Smith 3 years ago

Negative experience: Trail session. For me and my 2 children. Firstly had concerns about how a member of staff was still allowed to work after allegations of a safeguarding issue against a female member. I was informed head office know and he has not been suspended pending an investigation so there is a chance this could happen again. Review on their Facebook page. The gym itself is okay. With a family section (a lot of older men like to use) and upstairs is for older. There is a female only room with minimal equipment but the heat alone makes you walk straight out after entering. Now for the price . For myself a 8 year old and a 10 year-old not far off £100 a month. I was in absolute shock. I was told covid made the business suffer so no discounts and they have increased prices to recoup. I didn't get to use everything is the small session but it was not worth that a month at all. I was told I would be getting a call from another member of staff 2 days later but that was w weeks ago. Overall - if they can't protect their member or charge a reasonable amount then best avoid.

Negative experience: During my time in the steam room, I came across a colossal pungent excrement on the soggy condensated floor which was bogging. I believe the person was an Asian man in his late 30s, 5'1 in height. He displayed a very rawboned build. The word "rawboned" encapsulates he is a hollow cheeked, malnourished, scrawny freshie. furthermore, I believe he was portraying a rather concerning fruity demeaner and proceeded to take his clothes off in the wilderness of the changing room this act of public indecency sickened me to my core.

Positive experience: machines are left broken and out of use for days sometimes weeks, limited plates and equipment. ice bath is always out of use, the lifeguard james atkinson (i think hes recently employed ) keeps staring at me and its making me uncomfortable, the same with nathan higham
