Belstead Brook Leisure Club & Spa: Opinions
Negative experience: Rude snotty staff dirty damp rooms
Fantastic experience: My husband booked a last minute trip to the Belstead Brook Leisure Club & Spa, and we have to say, it completely exceeded our expectations. I was a bit hesitant after seeing some reviews of the hotel being dated and whatnot, but I left beyond impressed following our experience. Staff were incredibly kind and attentive, particularly Arnold, who ensured that all jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room temperatures were adjusted to meet the comfort level of guests. He continuously checked in and made sure that all needs were taken care of. As for our treatments — my husband got a facial, which he really enjoyed, and I got a back, neck, and arm massage. The massage was phenomenal, and the therapist really ensured to take her time and rub out any knots + tightness I had in my muscles. Our selected meals were also both quick and delicious. I had a Caesar salad, and my husband had the Cajun chicken (which we definitely recommend) — both of us were very satisfied. Overall, this review is to express that you should NEVER judge a book by its cover. Despite the facility having a “dated” look, it was nothing less of well kept and peaceful. Perfect for a relaxing escape. We will most definitely be back.
Fantastic experience: Food hot and delicious good menu. Staffed professional & friendly. They also do a lunch time menu with very reasonable prices. I will definitely return with my Mom.
Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful back passage and facial yesterday and will definitely be returning.
Fantastic experience: We really enjoyed our spa day today, all of the staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The afternoon tea was perfect. Cakes delicious, scones warm, sandwiches and sausage rolls really nice too. We had been warned they had a problem with the heating of the pool and regularly checked the temperature, it was 29c and warm enough to swim. We enjoyed the steam room and jacuzzi. Everywhere we went was very clean including the lovely showers. I liked that hair dryers are provided for free. We have already recommended friends and family visit too. Thank you for a really lovely relaxing day.
Negative experience: Booked a spa day and afternoon tea for my sisters 30th through groupon , was difficult to book, hard to get through when finally did get through was really difficult to understand what the spa day involved, or timings of treatments. Was told treatment was 11am and afternoon tea at 1.When we arrived we were told treatments was at 1 and afternoon tea at 2pm. Didn't really know where we were going just ushered through a door. Swimming pool area was run down and uninviting. Changing room smelt of wee. Grubby corner for hot drinks. Machine did not work so just a jug of hot water. At 11.20 Was told we were late for our treatments at 11, explained we were told 1pm, shown to two therapists who just stared at us and asked us what we wanted. Explained we were not told or asked about treatments. Asked for back massage. Therapists said they could only offer the remaining 10mins as had other bookings or could offer 4pm and 4.30 which was too late for us. Spoke to reception who wandered off then reappeared gesturing to us to follow and then pointed us back to therapists. We were confused as to what was happening. Told we could have our treatments now. Asked for medium pressure and honestly thought she was trying to torture me! It was the worst massage I've ever had! No technique and felt really rushed. Then were asked to compete forms which should have been done before treatments but wasn't enough time.receptionist came back and asked why we were still in the waiting room, explained we had to do forms. Had to double check afternoon tea time as told 2pm then told could have anytime between 1-3pm. It was a very stressful time which defeats the point of a spa day. Went back to the pool to make a drink, no hot water so had to go back to reception, had to wait ages for this, then no milk... Afternoon tea was OK. Overall Very disappointed when I had bought this for a special occasion. Would not recommend or go back.
Fantastic experience: I visited Belstead Brook Leisure Club and Spa today with my partner. We had a spa day with afternoon tea. It’s so relaxing, afternoon tea was delicious and the building is very stylish. I have really enjoyed the visit and the staff have been very warm and welcoming. Thank you for the wonderful experience.
Fantastic experience: Amazing place
Negative experience: Booked 2 nights as a birthday treat. Main hotel communal areas are amazing but freezing cold. No maintenance of outside spaces seems to be happening (see photos) Food was lovely aswell as treatments and staff. We had a problem with our 30+ year old mattress. It had broken springs and when sat on you felt the bed base!! Also very badly stained. Head of housekeeping was amazing and replaced it immediately with a brand new one they had in storage! The decor and furnishings were also very tired and dated. If they hadn't spent an absolute fortune on the communal area upgrades they could of updated all rooms. The pictures of the spa area make it look amazing. It's not. Again very tired Overall this place could be amazing but needs lots of maintenance on a daily basis. Would return if the rest of the hotel matches the public areas
Positive experience: Lovely place - gym could do with a little tlc but staff were lovely and it was a very nice, peaceful place.
Fantastic experience: 3 nights, very good size room, comfy bed very clean, good size bathroom, fireplace make room very cosy ,swimming pool and jacuzzi very clean, lovely bubbles ,very nice and helpful staff ❤️ Recommended Relax Guaranteed,
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and lovely place to stay or visit
Fantastic experience: A lovely getaway. Great food and service. Fab prices. Will certainly return
Positive experience: Food was lovely. All my guests were delighted. Although there was a delay on serving the vegetarian meal, I was told it was worth the wait. Staff were friendly except the man who was wearing the white uniform. He was stopping my guests to take photo of the place. We didn't know what was his problem.
Positive experience: A lovely relaxing spa, the jacuzzi was great and very spacious, and the pool is a good size. There are also steam rooms. However, it's a bit shabby - there are cracked tiles in the changing rooms and pool, the robes have stains on, there was only one toilet by the pool and there was an old water-cooler with a few cups but that's it. The pool wasn't supervised and it looked like there was mould on the outside of the jacuzzi area. It's ok as part of a hotel package, but we went for our anniversary so it was a bit disappointing. We still had a nice time overall though
Fantastic experience: So relaxing, beautiful place to enjoy a swim spa and sauna
Fantastic experience: Great service and gym
Negative experience: I have just left the Belstead Brook Hotel and spa. I booked with two friends for the the blissful moment package. I have been thoroughly humiliated and embarrassed and left in great distress after the following events. On arrival my two friends and i were given lunch options which we needed time to decide on. We were directed to the bar which we found. We paid and were told to help ourselves from the breakfast counter but not to sit in that area. We struggled with swimming bags and were not offered a tray or any service untill i accosted two staff and told them we couldn't carry everything and perhaps they would kindly bring it through to us. They did, however i shouldn't have had to ask! We went to the spa and i discovered i had unexpectedly started my period. I went to reception to explain that i didnt have £2 for the hygiene machine but that if reception could lend it to me i could get some tampax from the machine located in the ladies toilet. A member of the team gave me £2 from her own purse, after having a discussion that they did not think there was any servicing of those machines and unlikely to work. I tried and they were empty. Other members of staff went and checked other machines in the building which were also unserviced and empty. I waited at reception in my swimming costume and slippers and a sarong of my own, for staff to try and find me a single tampax. This was embarrassing and humiliating. customers and staff milling about. The reception lady then advised me that there was nothing they could find and that there was a shop i could go to myself near by. I had beed dropped off by my husband and did not have any transport. I was left crying in the spa vestibule in my swimming costume being ignored by passing staff and guest - no further help was offered. I was forced to return to the changing rooms and a cost other women to ask if any of them had suitable supplies and finally with no success and no other alternative, telephone my husband who had to leave a family lunch to get me sanitary products. I was soo distressed that i no longer felt able to remain in the spa/ hotel. I was and am utterly disgusted with a zero level of customer service or duty of care to any female patron. I cannot possibly be the only woman in that hotel who might need sanitary products. As a member of the hospitality industry they have a duty of care to provide basic sanitary products for customers. Furthermore if there is a shortage of such products staff should be prepared to go and fetch the items, not leave a distressed and embarrassed customer standing crying in reception in a swimming costume telling her to go and find them herself! I and my two friends day was spoilt by the fact that I was unable to stay to celebrate an 18th Birthday. I asked for a refund and so far have been told that mangement arent available till next week. We shall see. .... Update I have now had a response to my email the manager of the spa has called me a liar and refuses me a refund stating that as i chose to leave, they have no responsability to give me a refund. Appauling! Update: rather than deal with the refund requested, they wasted tax payers money and police time calling out no less than 3 police officers to a 48 year old 5 ft 2 inch lady demanding a refund! It just gets more and more disgraceful.
Positive experience: Friendly and helpful staff with clean and spacious rooms and facilities. Delicious and plentiful evening meal and breakfast Thank you to all the staff for a lovely spa weekend.
Fantastic experience: Went there today with my daughter and friend for an afternoon lunch and spa session. Food was such great quality and was prepared so quickly. Facilities were excellent. Staff were super friendly, especially Arnolys (I hope I spelt his name correctly) was super helpful, friendly, humorous, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a relaxing, worry free time. We also were not rushed whatsoever. Would definitely recommend and will be back soon.
Fantastic experience: Been there twice forvyour pensioners special very good value for money and about to go again next week.
Positive experience: Clean. Decor. Dated a to blingy.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful hotel, staff very helpful.
Fantastic experience: Very polite and helpful staff. Good experience,
Positive experience: Some staff friendly & helpful others not.
Negative experience: I treated my daughter and son in law to a night away from the kids. The good side is the pool and jacuzzi area. They didn't have a treatment though, but said the spa is very nice. The food is also good ,and generous sizing and great breakfast . Down side ,the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Worst bed ever slept on. The shower had literally no pressure ,and it was hard to even get yourself washed. They had a first floor junior suite with a balcony . The balcony was dirty and not nice. The bar was noisy and hot ,so ate outside. Altogether a disappointing stay
Positive experience: Lovely place showers in pool area are cold, toliet paper you can see though need better quality . But I love this place great stay.
Positive experience: Lacking in service
Fantastic experience: Had a couple massarge and it was lush
Negative experience: Poor quality massage not professional, my husbands massage was in his words someone randomly rubbing my back..he then told my husband he needed to exercise more!!, poor administration, had incorrect names on our book in. Come for spa break and found jacuzzi and sauna out of action. Food mediocre. Receptions lacks professionalism..in fact whole place does. Such a shame was top notch when we got married here 12 years ago.
Fantastic experience: Lovely friendly atmosphere, great food , very family friendly.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely beautiful place.
