Basingstoke Sports Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience:
Negative experience: Unfortunately can't comment on the soft play facilities here, other than to say sadly the session times are very limited at the weekend (due to children's parties). Currently they are only in the morning. My friend & I met at Festival Place with our children & thought the soft play facilities here within the shopping centre were a great idea! Sadly, we popped in after our lunch, and found we had missed the slots for the day. It would be wonderful if some of the vacant shop units at FP were turned into a soft play centre for children. It would be very popular.
Negative experience: Elaine is the best instructor for both yoga and Pilate. Sadly she does teach yoga any more. She still way better than the other pilate instructor!
Positive experience: Loads of equipment to work on very helpful coaches
Negative experience: Very poor customer service from Better staffs , there used to be some nice staffs ,terriable experience especially for badminton court, when we are willing to pay geust fee for additional members and they are reluctant to let us play. They are simply not willing to do thier admin works and show some willingness for customers to play as we are paid members.
Negative experience: Very resentful staff, treats badminton court booking members like thieves . Even if we are ready to pay for extra player they create all sorts of issues. They are too tired to check and do the admin needed. It is getting worse day after day, need some good vibes there definitely. Basingstoke has one of the worst Better health experience.
Negative experience: I've been here in this gym since 2022 People who working there used to be polite and respectfull but now, they're all racist I'm not a emotional guy but Eyes don't lie , trust me it's not good as It was.
Fantastic experience: Enjoy this place. Nice atmosphere and nice staffs
Positive experience: It is mainly on people meeting people for businesses, hight-tech, not much human interaction, Gym and heated pool, better than average food.
Fantastic experience: Basingstoke sports centre is very friendly ad very helpful
Fantastic experience: Joined the gym in October. I’m 70 and have never been to a gym for leisure purposes. Just don’t do this. Have had each of the machines at home, but didn’t use them and sold each in turn over the years. I’m REALLY enjoying this gym and have already been over 30 times in a couple of months. Staff are great, friendly and plentiful. The equipment is plentiful and, I think, really high end stuff. I don’t feel out of place. There’s plenty of activity and all types of individuals. No need to worry about “looking out of place”. I just enjoy the buzz (I like people watching anyway) and can learn from others by watching how individuals use the gym. Though I get a senior £31 a month on direct debit, the parking is expensive, but I try to find free or lower cost parking, or catch the bus. And, having gone twice, I asked if I’d get my second visit included in the price if I joined that day, and got both days credited! And, I’m getting fitter. Mike
Fantastic experience: My granddaughter had her swimming lesson here. She enjoyed it - the staff were all very welcoming.
Positive experience: Good Pilates class with Elaine. Gym was fine, but still need more cleaning stations. Having to pay to use a Car Park in order to get to the gym, continues to be a frustration. The Health Spa is great, just need it to be open more often (I understand the energy crisis issue).
Fantastic experience: Started a membership this week and was surprised how easy it was to register. Everything was done via the website/app. The gym itself is bigger than expected split on 2 level. As a member, I also have access to the swimming pool and classes. The staff at reception are friendly and very helpful. Only thing I would mention is that I could not see any cleaning products/wipes to clean the equipment after use. Happy so far and can recommend.
Fantastic experience: Friendly, professional staff, and they offer great facilities including kidd swimming lessons
Positive experience: Nieźle
Positive experience: Big room for soft play.. it was really quiet when we went and there are 1 hr session times. Small toilets with changing facilities and a little area to sit and eat. My 2 year old ran wild for an hour would of like to stay a bit longer though. The lift wasnt working when we went but the pushchairs were perfectly safe in reception. We would go back
Positive experience: Shame bith Gregs we visited, feel it necessary to charge extra to sit and eat. Should be advertised in the premises, rather than find out at the till!
Fantastic experience: Great customer service had a few issues with booking on the website their team was very friendly with sorting this out. Great facilities clean as one could expect and as mentioned great staff.
Negative experience: Good location, and the gym has everything you need, but you have to sign a contract for a year, and if your circumstances change, you still have to pay
Negative experience: Over priced
Fantastic experience: Good gym and swimming one too
Fantastic experience: Huge gym with plenty of equipment and a pool, also a huge plus that they have a women's only gym!
Positive experience: Went for the first time in the swimming pool with the toddlers. The heated pool made it easy for the kids and staff are helpful. Perhaps their accessories need to be updated such as floaters etc.
Fantastic experience: Great location with a comprehensive set of facilities. Love this space.
Negative experience: staff are rude and passive aggressive
Negative experience: Not been here
Fantastic experience: Clean, modern facilities. Plenty of paid parking nearby. Swimming, racquet sports, soft play, gym, classes etc. Friendly reception staff.
Fantastic experience: Nice friendly staff
Positive experience: Pretty good centre, plenty of equipment. Our session was in studio 2 . Good parking in Festival Place except price which has risen like everything else.
Fantastic experience: Good place for kids to learn how to swim
Fantastic experience: A great place for a massage. Booked over the phone and my appointment was on time. Great deep tissue massage, will come again as this was my 2nd visit.
Negative experience: Had our child's birthday party there and chose the party mix. Very disappointed - this was basically a bouncy castle in the main hall and nothing else. No music with the member of staff sat on the floor against the wall with no ideas on how to host a party. There were no party games as promised or football so basically it was up to us to provide the entertainment - that was not what it was sold to us as. Provided the feedback to reception afterwards who didn't really seem to care so will definitely avoid for further parties. I may as well have arranged my own party in a local hall as we thought it would take the stress away by using them. Our six year old even commented on asking why his party was only a bouncy castle. Very disappointed.
Negative experience: Dirty and never cleaned stay away
Fantastic experience: You can spend a great day here
Positive experience: Ladies only gym is great idea but pity there is only one of everything. Main gripes are equipment is too close together which is a bit of a trip hazard and many members do not wipe down equipment after use. I think if you are going to have rules you should enforce them otherwise make it optional. Sometimes I'm the only one in the gym doing it! Otherwise really good and staff in the gym are helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and approachable.
Fantastic experience: Spent an hour in the gym, it was quiet and enjoyable.
Positive experience: Cheapest in Basingstoke with variety of fitness activities along with regular gym. Do check for corporate discounts if you are working for one
Fantastic experience: Great facilities. Lovely staff.
Negative experience: If I could give 0 stars I could. Basingstoke leisure centre have erected a barrier of nil communication behind this 'Better' company and it's impossible to get information out of them regarding any lessons. When you go into reception; they're rude and unwilling to be helpful at all with any issues your having and the phone line directs you back to Batter's IMPOSSIBLE-to-negotiate website Terrible customer service all round.
Negative experience: Why is the health suite now closed during the day? Does anyone know? I was a pay as you go customer, but sadly due to the changes I simply can't attend. What a shame, as this place was leagues above the dysmal aquadrome, now they're in the same league and battling for bottom place. Both useless. Such a let down.
Fantastic experience: The best sport centre in Basingstoke
Fantastic experience: Very clean sports centre. Great value membership and inclusives
Positive experience: Sadly, with the change over company, the atmosphere has changed. All the trainers have changed, and the rehabilitation classes have been reduced to a few a week. There are not enough rehabilitation trainers at the moment, and there are no real signs of that changing soon.
Fantastic experience: gym.and sports centre for all ages
Fantastic experience: Nice soft play area for younger children, inexpensive.
Negative experience: I would give 0 stars, but that isn’t an option. I’d like to start with the fact that I am already paying the higher price (£40) to get access to the ladies gym at ALL times and not within selected timings. But, the ladies gym has different opening times, as of 19th Dec, and they now shut between 10am-3pm. This defeats the purpose of my membership and I am not happy. Also, the ladies gym is closed on Saturday and Sundays… so what is the point of me paying £40 to be able to use this womens only gym whenever I would like to?
Negative experience: Since the new "better" company has taken over it is going down hill the price of the membership has increased, the opening hours of the spa has reduced it is not open on the weekends at all. You would think with a big new company taking over they would maybe upgrade the spa facilities but no its just a money grabing company!
Fantastic experience: Exceptional facilities and staff were awesome and very approachable
Negative experience: Car parking not good expensive, dark could barely see the grey lines dividing the spaces which were not very wide
Fantastic experience: Very busy place, but Very good and I liked it
Fantastic experience: The food everywhere smells amazing and shops are quite easy find with a huge selection of productions. Would definitely recommend coming here!
Positive experience: pool is very good, nice gym and squash courts.
Negative experience: Poor customer service since the change of ownership
Fantastic experience: Great place for everything
Fantastic experience: It's a good place to be
Negative experience: I recommend avoiding this place. And if you are served by an employee named dannee then you are guaranteed a negative experience.
Positive experience: Well looked after clean and tidy
Positive experience: Booked for grandsons 4th birthday. A great play area with loads of obstacles for them to play on. Safe and clean. Staff were mostly very good, got the impression a couple of young females didn't want to be there.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant facilities and friendly staff
Negative experience: This centre has gone downhill since the ironically named 'Better' took over. It's now becoming increasingly like a kindergarten, with kids' sessions in the pool at 6.30 in the morning, and 11 year-olds in the gym at weekends just occupying the machines while staring at their phones. It almost feels like a concerted attempt to drive the old regulars out. No-one wipes down the machines any more and the place just doesn't feel as friendly, helpful and considerate as it did BC (Before Covid). It's just a run of the mill, dirty sports centre now, which is a crying shame. Time to move on.
Fantastic experience: Great staff nice and clean
Positive experience: Only putting 3 stars as I’ve only tried the soft play but I’d recommend that for younger babies in particular. Big area with loads of big soft chunky shapes for climbing unlike others which tend to cater for slightly older ones and therefore have a tiny baby area. Also doesn’t tend to be very busy. No staff at all in this area FYI, completely parental supervision and haven’t seen any cleaning between sessions if that bothers you
Negative experience: Being run by a company that does not care about its individual members.
Positive experience: We go swimming with our three month old baby and the people at reception are super nice. The teaching pool is nice for babies although it could be a little warmer and it’s well organised. It has storage for pushchairs and showers. The downside is that the dressing rooms/ changing room area is freezing cold.
Negative experience: Good company until taken over by Better UK. Awful customer service, changed terms and conditions without agreement from customers and by extending notice period had charged many customers for not using the gym. Awful management.
Negative experience: Clunky emails and portals to rebook swimming lessons the centre have cancelled create more work for members than is really necessary. The phone is rarely answered. The reception team face to face don't seem to want take ownership of problems the customer is having. It doesn't have to be like this!
Positive experience: Utilised the soft play, lots of fun was had.
Negative experience: I’ve been visiting soft play regularly for over a year and always received welcoming, friendly and understanding service from the reception staff.. until this morning when we met their supervisor, lady called Zara who made us feel very unwelcome and stupid. I always had a problem with the app so normally just turned up and pay on a day. Today it was a problem and we couldn’t join 11am session. We were told that they were too busy, even though new system couldn’t track all children names and they simply couldn’t tell how many kids had already turned up, but still wouldn’t allow us to join. My daughter was distressed and other one woke up as lady who served us was getting louder and more upset. In the end I had to leave and book for a different time session. I understand new rules and regulations, but all we need in this world is a l it take but of kindness.
Fantastic experience: Polecam, korzystam od 4 miesiecy
Positive experience: Good and clean until got changed over by better UK getting in is a pain and ten card system is useless
Fantastic experience: Always good to work out and meet up with friends.
Fantastic experience: The staff are amazing and there are groups for people with learning disabilities and they make the sessions fun and interesting
Fantastic experience: Very well equipped gym, clean pools and nice spa
Fantastic experience: Cool
Fantastic experience: Professional attitude and friendly staff. Clean and tidy areas. Classes undertaken with covid restrictions and cleanliness a priority. Mask wearing required in communal areas. Safe environment where I enjoy exercising.
Positive experience: Moves Gym for the older less mobile people, Electric/Manual Machines just the right amount of workout. Pleasant helpful staff.
Positive experience: Probably the best gym in basingstoke imo. If you need advice the staff are on hand to support you, if you have questions on a workout then just ask them and they will advise. Its the cleanest gym I've been to aswell. Some gyms are filthy but it looks like they work hard to maintain a standard. You can also book PT sessions through reception if you want 121 support.
Negative experience: Customer service is absolutely rubbish!!!No respond to my emails regarding swimming lessons for my children! Very disappointed, they promised to call me and never did!!Wouldn't recommend to anyone!
Positive experience: Good from what I have seen of it so far - enjoyable and friendly classes (with a nice full timetable) and is well maintained and clean. Staff have been helpful. Just joined properly so will be trying out more of the facilities.
Fantastic experience: Great place
Fantastic experience: Great facilities for swimming, spa , gymnasium, badminton and squash...
Negative experience: Very limited time for softplay, poor value for money
Fantastic experience: Decent facilities with an all inclusive feel to it. Recommend the PT Kuba too!
Fantastic experience: Not long moved to Basingstoke and this centre is brilliant huge mixed gym and normal size ladies gym, sauna is great and lots of classes
Negative experience: as a long term member, it feels like you are treated at times with contempt and possibly a nuisance . There is no consistency with staff attitudes or the fact the building is open but you are not allowed to use the facilities until the clock says 6:30am -despite the fact all clocks in the building say different times!!! really as so many members have left, you would think we would be treated better - disappointing
Positive experience: Clean and tidy, reasonable amount of time for each swimming session for family, but could be nicer if it is an hour instead of 45 minutes. Water is also nice and warm in toddler area, but could be nicer with more toys for them to interact and play with.
Fantastic experience: The Sauna is finally up and running with new benches, it is a great place to relax and recharge
Fantastic experience: I have never been to a place with so many facilities. It has everything.
Positive experience: Gym is okay but the experience is spoilt by other gym goers who think it’s acceptable to cough all over the cross trainer machines without even attempting to cover their mouths. Not the hygiene standards one would expect given the current situation with covid.
Fantastic experience: Lucy at Move is a brilliant trainer. Certainly knows her stuff. Spacious clean room.
Positive experience: A center for sports
Fantastic experience: Friendly and helpful staff, clean and tidy. Beware of the spin class!!
Fantastic experience: I love the ladies gym. Good energy and great selection of weights and machines. Everyone is very courteous regarding the covid rules. Although the gym is very good, the online sign up process was abysmal! So many errors, horrible sign up, terrible user experience and definitely needs to be redesigned! But the gym itself is great!
Fantastic experience: Very good and complete
Fantastic experience: Great place to get fit and meet people.
Negative experience: This center was excellent before taken over by Better UK. My kids do swimming lessons there and it was great. But now, they take 5 mins out of every lesson to "check" the children in meaning that they lose 5 minutes swimming time. When I asked about when my free lesson would be (the 7th one) I received no response. They now make the kids wear swimming hats for no other reason than they can't remember which kids are in which grade. And to top it all off they just increased their prices despite the service going down hill. I do not recommend. What I do recommend is looking at other providers in the area for swimming lessons. There are some excellent ones and I am planning to switch soon. Revision to my review: the organisation of the swim school has got better. They no longer take 5+ minutes to get the children into the pool. However they are still insisting on this ridiculous thing about the children all wearing swimming hats. I've been told it's for cleanliness of the pool. I will believe this if you can confirm that when people come for family swim they are also forced to wear swimming hats for cleanliness of the pool. I counter this with my arguement that the only reason they make the children wear swimming hats is so that they can see what grade they're in.
Negative experience: No facility to change. Expected to walk around after swim in soaked clothes
Fantastic experience: Brilliant covid separation good place to have a dip
Positive experience: The gym is clean and good.
