Fantastic experience: Diana was wonderful this afternoon with a GREAT Back, Neck & Shoulders massage. She took effort with plenty of time & working to release the knots in my Back, Neck & Shoulders always checked the strength was alright. THANK-YOU Diana

Positive experience: My partner and I recently embarked on a spa adventure, courtesy of a Groupon package promising 55 minutes of bliss for two. But as with any journey, there were unexpected twists: Armed with prior confirmation that we needed to coordinate directly with the spa team, we eagerly booked. Yet, somehow, our choices vanished into the ether—no treatment options, no preferred time—just a fait accompli. Upon querying the spa team, we hit a wall. They stood firm, refusing a couple treatment or any scheduling flexibility. Disappointment settled in like a stubborn knot in our shoulders. Just when we contemplated cancelling, Tabish from the SPA team appeared. His promise: an early morning slot. Not ideal, but we accepted. A couple treatment dreams were at stake! The masseuses. Their hands worked magic, erasing tension and turning frustration into serenity. Sometimes, it’s the human touch that transforms an experience. In retrospect, my advice: Always consult the Esprit Wellness and Spa team before hitting “book now.” And kudos to Tabish for bending time (and rules) to grant us that coveted couple escape.

Fantastic experience: Booked a couple of treatments for me and my wife while we stayed at the hotel. Having experienced several different spas over the years this was by far the best experience we had ever had. Unlike other experiences we have had there was no pushy up selling of "enhanced" experiences, it was just as we had booked. I had a 50 minute ( which was a full 50 minutes ) full body massage with Elaine which was magic, I left feeling like melted butter. My wife had a facial and hot stone massage which she also enjoyed. Very much recommended

Fantastic experience: Had the most relaxing express rejuvenating treatment (mini facial and hot stone massage) with Elaine this afternoon. I do not find it easy to relax in general and this was easily the most relaxing treatment I've had in a long time. Elaine was fantastic throughout, listened to my skin concerns and adapted the facial as needed. Highly recommend if you're staying at the hotel and have some time to spare.

Negative experience: Beyond disappointing "spa" experience. Me and my friend booked the entry to spa and 2 treatments each few weeks in advance. This was part of our overnight stay and the check-in for the hotel is at 3:00pm. When we have booked this we have received a confirmation that our treatments will take place at 4:00pm, 4:30pm, 5:00pm and 5:30pm. A week before a woman has called to say the treatments have been moved 1 hour earlier. (So 3-4:30pm). On the day we drove from London and arrived at the hotel at 2:20pm, we checked in with no issues and headed to the spa before 3:00pm. There we were told that we have missed 1 hour of treatments already. When we said that we are in fact early, they said that they have changed our times and sent us an email. They have not actually contacted us to confirm we were aware of the change! Kerry (supervisor on the reception) has refused to acknowledge that us missing the treatments was not our fault at all, and didn't even attempt to salvage the situation. They refused to provide us with a treatments that we have already paid for and said that "there's nothing they can do". The spa staff and Kerry need a serious customer service training because her refusal to deal with this situation was shocking. Oh and the massages we have received were pretty meh, and took place in the tiniest cupboard sized rooms ever where they barely fit a massage bed. Nothing relaxing about the experience. We have tried talking to them again before our dinner, as anyone who has worked in customer service or hospitality knows that there is always something you can do! But no. They have refused to issue a partial refund. They have refused to give us a voucher for treatment in the future. Not even a single free drink was offered. Honestly, the customer service was APPALLING. Clearly once they take your money they don't actually care about your experience. Their treatment of us has almost ruined our "relaxing weekend" completely, the only good part was the restaurant and the staff there but they are separate to the spa. Frankly, I would tell anyone to avoid this place. The spa is just one small pool, one small sauna and a steam room, and a small gym. That's it. My local gym has better atmosphere and facilities than this place. Also, although we have prepaid £300 for our stay, the hotel has charged me £75 for a deposit when we checked in and it will take a full week to be refunded.

Negative experience: Worst spa I have ever been to. I had a massage booked it. The masseuse knocked to come in, I wasn't ready and shouted No, but she still walked in while saying "No, you're not ready?" Confirming that she heard me!

Fantastic experience: Really nice place to relax

Negative experience: One of the worst spa experiences I've ever had!! Firstly, upon arrival there was no one at the reception to check us in, several minutes of waiting and a friendly young girl showed up. We then got sorted and headed into the spa facilties, which is essentially a gym, small swimming pool, steam room and sauna, nothing special or different from most bog standard gyms/sports centers up/down the UK. After a short stay by the pool, we then went to lunch, which frustratingly you have to get dried and dressed for as it's in the restaurant (would have been nicer to have a separate spa dinning area to eat in where you can remain in robes etc.). The food was very good, well presented, very tasty and speedy service, can't fault it. After lunch we sat waiting for our treatments, whilst waiting we were treated to a full blown argument between a receptionist and a woman also attending the spa which is anything but relaxing. Anyway, back to the treatments... I had a full body massage and my partner had the collagen facial. Prior to our spa day our treatments were at 2pm and 3 pm but i was contacted ahead of time and asked if we'd like to have them both at 2pm in the same room which i said would be great but on the day we were separated. My room was easily the smallest room ive ever been in in my entire life, must have been 6ft by 8tf at most. I was asked about the desired firmness of my massage and I requested firm which it was anything but, It honestly felt like a complete novice was performing my treatment, I'd be shocked if the woman was a certified masseuse, it was just a complete waste of time! My partner described her collagen facial as very disappointing and upsetting. It was also provided by a woman who didn't seem to know what she was doing, perhaps inexperienced. I also want to mention that my partner has psoriasis so can experience flakey skin especially on her scalp, this was stated on the form you have to complete prior to treatment so shouldnt have come as a shock, during the facial she was given what she describes as a "strange, weak head rub" during which she could hear the woman huffing and brushing the flakes off her hands and lap. The reason my partner had chosen the facial and not a massage was because she is self-conscious of her psoriasis and did not want to be made feel disgusting which unfortunately is exactly what happened. At 3pm, immediately after our treatments we got dressed and left as, asides from the food, the entire day was a huge waste of time and money, it wasn't relaxing in the slightest and we actually left more upset and agitated than we arrived. I would strongly advise against the spa but strongly recommend the restaurant as the Indian food really was great.

Fantastic experience: Booked a treatment as part of a mini moon after our wedding and Lucian and team were fantastic. Very relaxing and just what we needed after a very busy few days! Would highly recommended.

My first time with hot stones but I have honestly never had a better massage. My body has been aching for a while from cycling and walking for charity challenges. Lucians massage is magical, professional and an absolute treat I would certainly book him again! Highly recommend Luciian and of course the Crown Plaza Reading East!!

Fantastic experience: Attended the venue as part of a treatment and afternoon tea bundle. Lucian was the masseuse on site, he was friendly and made me feel very at ease. He explained everything clearly and made sure I was comfortable throughout the treatment, highly recommend. This was followed by afternoon tea which had a nice selection of sandwiches and sweet treats as well as the star of the show, the scone - which I have to say the fruit scone was quite possibly the best I have eaten to date, it was warm and not too heavy whilst having a slightly savoury flavour to it. Overall throughout the experience I think the staff we’re all friendly and helpful and the facilities were clean and easy to navigate, great value for money and would recommend as a great way to spend a few hours!

Fantastic experience: After two days at a festival having a relaxing hand treatment at the Esprit Wellness and Spa with Lucian was amazing. I would highly recommend for anyone needing a bit of TLC. Lucian was very caring and paid good attention to the full atmosphere of the experience so it felt more like two hours of complete rest and relaxation than just a hand massage. Although we didn't make full use of the rest of the facilities they looked good.

She got me drinks ok request always with a smile. It could be an idea to do app ordering at pool side. Facilities were great. I had a massage and facial with Lucian. Face hasn’t been smoother before. Finished off with afternoon tea. It was ok. Not the best I have had but still nice. All in all I thought it was good value and staff were lovely.

Fantastic experience: Came here for an anniversary weekend. Due to complex dietary issues I spoke in advance with Head Chef Mahendra, who was wonderfully helpful and planned a menu especially for me. Our waiter Callum was very friendly and helpful, and made sure we were always happy. The food was mindblowing! So good! I had an indian spiced chicken starter which was easily the best Ive ever had (and I like Indian food). My main, a duck breast in redcurrant coulis with fondant potato was sublime. Perfectly pink, crispy and rich and a very fruity coulis. Pudding was simple for me, but my wife had an aamzing curry for main, with a spectactular fruit and rice pudding with roasted almonds to finish which she said was wonderful. Cannot recommend the place enough. Excellent food, wonderful service, and superb support for complex dietary issues. I even got a phone call the next day from chef to check it was all ok. Thank you for making it a wonderful evening.

Easy to find, parking on site, asked the receptionist about payment for parking and she was very polite and informative. Showed us where the spa is and the restaurant for after. The spa is AMAZING!! We both had massages and both of our therapists were absolutely fantastic. No lie, it was the best massage either of us have ever had. Tatyana was amazing. So skilled! If soulmates existed between clients and therapists she would be mine. Cannot recommend enough.

Positive experience: Booked a spa day which I was given as a gift. Staff were friendly and helpful. We were given a robe and towel,, but no slippers as it states you need to bring your own footwear. The changing rooms were clean and lockers are provided using the key pass. We used all except the gym. Shame there isn't a jacuzzi but there is a sauna and steam which were nice. The sun loungers were worn which have marks and tears along the folds of the cushions and they didn't stay in place. Overall a good place to visit, but not if looking for a special pamper spa.

Fantastic experience: Booked a spa day with treatment and afternoon tea for myself and my husband. This was at Crowne Plaza Reading East. The hotel is in a great location of the M4 is clean had ample parking. Started the day by using the gym it was clean had a good choice of equipment was not busy and nicely air conditioned. After this we hit the spa we were not disappointed, the spa facilities were clean the staff friendly the atmosphere perfect. We were checked in and looked after by Marise who was professional friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. We also booked in for a full body massage my therapist was Gabriela. Honestly I have to say it’s one of the best messages I have had. Every part of my body was worked on and special attention was taken to the areas I had noted as painful. The afternoon tea was lovely our whole experience for the day had been fantastic. We will be visiting as soon as we possibly can. Naz

Negative experience: After years of thinking about it this spa is lovely yes but actually working there not so nice . They would give me a 10 minute break I swear this was not right and I would have hours of massage and no break . But yes lovely spa :)

Negative experience: Awful. This was advertised to us as a spa! The pool was cold, the steam room was tiny as was the sauna. No hot tub/jacuzzi!! What spa doesn't have one of those? Receptionist was rude and very unhelpful and the towels provided were as soft as straw! Washed to an inch of their lives by the feel of them! The "treatment room" was a cupboard at the back of the pool area next to the steam room so the ambient music regularly gets drowned out by the sound of the pipework filling up the steam room. Complained but nothing done. I wouldn't go there again or reccomend it to anyone. Shame really as the hotel it's attached to wasn't too bad. Not the advertised 4 star they claim in my opinion but a half decent 3 star with pompous food!

Negative experience: Just had a full body massage, asked for firmer pressure, but it felt like they just continued rubbing oil into my skin. I did not enjoy the massage at all. The service is a hit and a miss depending on the masseuse. Attended as a group of 6 and some of my friends had a better service. Personally, I would not recommend!

Positive experience: My friend and I had a spa day at Esprit last Wednesday. The staff were very helpful and courteous. Everything in the spa was very clean and the atmosphere was so relaxing. We had an afternoon tea which was all delicious and we really enjoyed our full body massage.

Negative experience: DO NOT ATTEND THIS SPA!!!! I have literally just got off the phone to a "manager" of the SPA, my partner tested positive for Covid on Saturday & I spent all of Sunday ringing to no avail, I left 2 voicemails none of which were returned. However I have since called back and someone answered! I have tried to rearrange my experience & was told I can rearrange the dates but I would loose my treatments (the most expensive part) when asked why I was told "we pay the staff and if you don't don't up its not there fault" I explained my partner has tested positive for COVID not something you can exactly avoid. She said that's fine he can still come in... at this point I'm in utter shock!!!! She Said they can't rearrange as people kept having the same excuse. When asked if they are happy to put not only themselves at risk along with other staff members and there customers, the manager replied "well you can get it anywhere". I was shocked as a person with vulnerable parents i dread to think the outcome if I treated them to an experience!!!! It's absolutely disgusting that they are happy to facilitate and actively spread the virus. People have vulnerable family members, family who have died from COVID and this SPA is happy to help the spread of the virus. Even I won't see my partner because he has the virus. Absolutely disgusting. When I said I would be reporting it to health and safety. I was told this is what we've been advised by our managers. I thought you were the manager!!!!! The whole customer service is an absolute shambles. I'd hate to see the service recieved if someone was in hospital and physically unable to attend. Absolutely disgusting place. I won't be attending. I will be taking it further with health and safety and will ensure I get my money back through my bank. Disgusting place, with zero empathy for people situations. Ask for proof of covid and then allow people to rearrange. Instead of trying to spread the virus its disgusting.

Positive experience: Being a gym member this offers a good selection of equipment, swimming pool sauna and steam room. Gets a bit crowded on weekends

Positive experience: It’s okay for what it is but as a previous reviewer has stated not much if it were a standalone spa. The main spa room is located by the far end of the pool. It means there is a lot of noise from splashers having fun. Anything but relaxing. Parking was £4 for just over an hour. Paying spa customers should not be charged in my view. The car park has a confusing layout. There are no signs to the spa from the main car park. Not the best signposting in the building either. There is a nice route to get to the restaurant from the spa though post treatment. Restaurant service was slow but food was okay. Spa treatments went well and to time but no opportunity to get into a robe. Therapist did not check whether massage pressure was okay. Taken straight to the room for treatments. Asked to change as spa therapist waited outside. No door lock but at least they guard the door. Some treatments were not available as they were considered specialist treatments and that spa therapist was not around. Hotel seems a lot better having been revamped. Would I visit again? Yes, probably if there were no other spa bookings nearby. Would I recommend it to friends? Probably not. Shame the place let’s itself down in many ways. Could be a lot better and have customers queuing! As previously noted as well, it was difficult to get through on the phone but we eventually managed to speak with someone after multiple voice messages.

Positive experience: The details apply during a normal week, during school holidays the pool area tends to get very busy. I have suffered with a bad back, I needed somewhere to swim without having to do lengths. The single depth pool is ideal for me, especially as I cannot bend my back to allow me to breathe, so I stop and stand up to breathe once or twice on each length. There is no lip inside the pool wall to hold onto, but there is a lip around the top of the pool wall to get a grip on. Poolside can be busy, the pool is often empty. All those waiting, pre or post spa treatment, do so on the poolside loungers. The poolside showers are for those transferring between pool and the steam room/ sauna. They are normally set at a reasonable temperature. The showers in the changing rooms; the heads are a good size and the water pressure can be turned up high. A hot, powerful, full body shower is acheivable everytime I have been. Together with complimentary shower gel and fresh towel. There is good space in the shower cubicle. The changing room and locker areas are not exactly huge. If there are more than six of you in there it becomes a little too cosy. Although it is rare for so many to be in there except at peak times. Summer holidays, post work rush etc. Normally I see one or two others in the locker room. The lockers require your room card or membership card to release the key. The lockers have room to hang a suit as well as space for shoes etc. All in all a quiet place to swim and shower in.

Negative experience: Extremely disappointed that every attempt I made for a booking I was left with a voicemail message with no attempt to recontact me after leaving my name and phone number plenty of times. Receptionist was very rude when I did get hold of them. I had a voucher with an expiry date. After several times saying I will not be able to do any of these dates after a certain day, they proceeded to suggest ones they knew I was not able to do. They offered me one I could, I replied 'yes please' straight away. No confirmation email. I followed up the next day, only to be told the morning after that, that it's now not available! I suggested I could pay extra to do a weekend booking. They didn't have any of it. Now I've spent £110 on a spa day voucher which I will never be able to use

Positive experience: Food was delicious and staff were fantastic, but spa left a little to be desired. Cushion covers on the seats were a bit moldy and tatty, steam room wasnt very steamy and the sauna wasn't very hot. It was nice to have a swim though

Negative experience: I booked a spa day through Groupon on a previous occasion and had no problems, so used the same service to book another spa day yesterday. I booked the spa, afternoon tea (which was delicious) and a 25 minute treatment (massage) for two people. Our day was epic! Until we went to leave. As we handed our locker cards in at the desk , my sister and I were confronted by the person working on the desk. He explained that we had had a massage that we wasn’t supposed to have! We had booked 25 minutes but in fact had received a 50 minute and now this has had a knock on effect with the remaining clients for the rest of the day (this was 6pm) and demanded an extra payment of £30. He then proceeded to tell me we had told the masseuse we was having a full body massage. This was indeed correct. She asked if we was having a full body and I said yes. I’m not a masseuse so I don’t know how long a full body takes. I’m not aware of the time while having a massage and didn’t set an alarm for 25 minutes. He was very insistent, unprofessional and really quite rude to the point of aggressive. He demanded payment more than 4 times. I didn’t pay his demand as it was not our mistake. It makes me wonder if they have done this before? To make some extra money. It’s such a shame because before this incident we had a most enjoyable experience. So, we won’t be back as planned and I will be passing on my concerns to the other users of this spa I know.

Fantastic experience: used the pool and steam room. great.

Positive experience: Very friendly atmosphere, very clean. The pool is great to chill by, the sauna is okay and ocayed in the pool area. The massage though felt more like a back rub more than a massage. Previous massages I have had have used different tecniques rather than just hands and oil.

Negative experience: me and my mum had brought a group on voucher to enjoy a day out. the overall spa facilities were good. however we both had a hot stone massage and it was honestly shocking! the lady we had didn’t know to much english so it was hard to communicate but it was the worst massage i have ever had. the lights were so bright and she didn’t no how to turn them down, there was no music so i heard the conversations of the people next door, she was wearing heels so i heard her walking around the bed, she had absolutely no routine to the massage. she wouldn’t do the same thing on both sides of your body so it left you unbalanced. she also didn’t leave the room to let you get changed and there was no towel over the top, so i was just laying there. i was uncomfortable and didn’t not enjoy it neither did my mum. when i spoke to reception she said the lady had been there for ages. i also work for a spa elsewhere and this unprofessionalism would not be tolerated at all. if you go there make sure you don’t get the brazilian lady for a massage!!!

Fantastic experience: I had a groupon voucher for the visit, we decided to go when restrictions were still applied as was much quieter. All areas were clean and tidy and the pool was fine for what we wanted. We had a massage each, mine done by Beatrice and my sisters by Dianna. Both spa treatments were exceptional so much so we instantly booked another :) I get a lot of massages and can honestly say this was one of the better ones I’ve had. One of my pet hates getting a facial is they stick a mask on you and leave you sat for 5 mins but both these ladies still massaged our necks and shoulders so we’re totally pampered from start to finish!
