Fantastic experience: Excellent place, great pool and friendly staff

Fantastic experience: Spot on, the machines, weights, etc. suit my needs.

Negative experience: Turned up today, to find 75 or so unattended small children it seemed, I only saw 5 or so adults and 10 teenagers, to look after them, the place was absolutely filthy, equipment was damaged, dirty, unhygienic, the noise was unbearable, I had to leave, my mother is stressed out, and I will not return until this has stopped being a drop in centre for unwanted infants at home !!!!!

Negative experience: Absolutely disgraceful sauna cold steam room cold no showers been off 10days still not resolved floors and toilets dirty smoke alarms covered with plastic carrier bags fire door locked black mould round wash basins I could go on and on if health and safety go in the spa and sauna room they'll shut it down instantly should be ashamed of themselves operating a shit show like that

Negative experience: If I could give 0 star I would. Absolutely filthy & in need of a deep clean & repairs! Fobbed off at reception to send an email to management and still no reply & no refund of membership.

Fantastic experience: Well done bringing these facilities back both the swim and the gym staff are friendly and courteous at all times and areas are clean and tidy few little tidy ups and the gym going to 24 hrs then your onto a winner Keep up the good work

Positive experience: Overall, I do enjoy my membership with Gateshead Leisure Centre but there are still several areas that need improvement. I decided to leave PureGym mainly because it was overcrowded and I needed access to a pool. The gym at Gateshead Leisure Centre is well equipped, tidy and never too busy. There is also a great selection of classes, many of which aren’t offered at other local gyms such as boxing, Pilates or water gymnastics. My main issue is that the pool is almost always unusable. Out of the five times I wanted to use the pool, it was closed or occupied four times. I even checked the pool time table beforehand which appears to not be regularly updated. Gateshead Leisure Centre needs to do a better job at communicating their pool schedule on their website. For some reason you also have to pay for locker spaces which I have never seen at any other gym before.

Fantastic experience: GLC is a second home. It's a great facility, thank God it re-opened after a year. The pool, the gym, and various fitness classes are second to none.

Positive experience: Didn’t visit before the refurb but some improvements definitely need to be done. The price is great compared to other pools and the pool itself is nice (even if it does smell a bit toilety…), but the rules in the pool fly out of the window once it gets busier. The gate was open at reception which meant a man ended up coming into the women’s only swim session, and the lanes just got incredibly hectic and became a chat session instead of a swim session. I’m aware this isn’t entirely the leisure centres fault, but there were 4 life guards by the pool at one point and nothing was said. Especially when at one point there were 4/5 people in one lane, sometimes swimming 3 abreast across the lane together in different directions which was a bit of a squeeze! I ended up getting out after 45 minutes as it was just way too busy. The changing rooms aren’t the cleanest either, and the tokens for the lockers are one use only- if you want to get something out of your locker after locking it you’d need another token, which wasn’t explained at reception. I’m going to try a different session to see if it’s quieter but if that isn’t the case then I won’t be back sadly…

Fantastic experience: So pleased to have the Leisure centre open again. Some teething problems, lack of air-conditioning in the gym for one.

Negative experience: Very very disappointing Saturday morning with my 7 year old grandson.Checked website yesterday for swim times which are 0900-1200 Saturday morning.Arrived 0925 with 1 excited little boy to be told pool is closed between 1000 and 1100 to Set up inflatables for later on today.No where on website did it explain any of this. Now 1 upset child and an angry grandad.

Positive experience: I took my grandson to Clip 'n' Climb for the first time since the reopening. I can't fault Lucy she was efficient, kind and helpful. However, she required staff assistance especially for the leap of faith climbing challenge but no one showed up to help and my grandson really wanted to try this climb. I had to go to reception (twice) to request an additional member of staff to assist and eventually they made an appearance for the last ten minutes of the session. Lucy is a credit to the company and you're lucky to have such a dedicated member of staff. I thought it was very unfair for her to have to do most of the session working alone during the school holidays with alot of kids!

Positive experience: I had my sons birthday party here today we had clip n climb then football in the spots hall followed by party food provided by the centre in a separate room upstairs, despite a small hiccup when we arrived with the hall being double booked, the manager (Tony?) Did everything he could to make the day great for everyone. All kids had a great time and the staff in the clip n climb area / sports hall were great.

Negative experience: Dont bother going if you have a ginger child, everytime we've gone the life guard has a problem and actually told us we would be kicked out after only being in the pool for 10 minutes, the child's crime? Bending his legs while jumping in! Unwelcomimg staff, exspensive and place is dirty. Don't bother.

Negative experience: Since reopening they have decided to make Pilates & Tabata classes female only , they done believe in fairness & equality. Is this decision based on religion? Very much looks that way .I wont be joining that gym

Positive experience: I am very glad that the Gateshead Leisure Center has reopened. The cafe, gym and children's area are really good. But they should reconsider their hygiene. The toilets, showers and corridors by the pool are very dirty. There is a strong smell.

Positive experience: The equipment In the gym & throughout seems so much better than before the closure. There is no air conditioning on & it is becoming unbearable to exercise. Definitely think a reduction in the membership fee should be offered.

Negative experience: Kids left unsupervised in the soft play, bigger older kids are free to run rampant and bully the younger smaller children. Very disappointed because I was excited like everyone was about this reopening but based on my bad experience today I won't be coming back. No effort was made to compensate after notification to staff. 1/10

Positive experience: Been today to soft play and is ok but it could use some music on the background and some more cleaning in the siting area

Fantastic experience: Friendly and professional swimming instructors. My girls learnt how to swim and gymnastics here. It’s always a special landmark in central Gateshead. Brilliant sports and recreation for the locality!

Fantastic experience: The best ever!!! Dedicated staffs… comfortable place… spacious… nice and calm, very friendly environment etc., Kids will surely enjoy. My daughter has showed a massive progress in her swim skill.

Negative experience: Lady looking after soft play Saturday 25/2/2023, at 2:30pm was so rude and unpolite to kids and parents asking to come out. It was so unpleasant to see how she try to push everyone out. Won't come back.

Negative experience: Good things first, the gym is good and I like the equipment. But for the price I pay I would expect professional PTs in there. Seeing people perfoming lifts with terrible/ dangerous form, I would expect the PTs to look out for those, that's kind of why they here. People leaving everything laying around, because no one checks them. I see the PTs sitting either on the desk and playing with the phone or being somewhere else. I would also recommend to maybe exclude kids for the busy hours during the week. It's already full of people, but having groups of kids in there, playing around with the equipment, is first of all dangerous & annoying to everyone else that actually wants to work out.

Fantastic experience: Went swimming with little one was good and quiet during school time tho on second visit had to leave early due to people taking photos moved down pool so my kids wouldn't get included but they continued to take photos down the pool life guard didn't say anything looked like he was going to fall asleep didn't like idea of strangers having photos of my little boy and my 17 year old daughter so left did speak to reception but nothing was said

Positive experience: Pilates class is great...but parking is horrendous. Still using main carpark for covid testing...very odd!!!

Positive experience: I visit because the leisure centre has a large gym with a good selection of cardiovascular equipment plus weight machines and other equipment. The classes held at the centre are very good and, all told, I think it's an outstanding facility.

Negative experience: Small pool over capacity every single week and staff do not bother to let you know till your pool side. You then have to wait up to 10 mins to get in to the crowded pool. We won't be coming back any time soon. Get it together Gateshead, it's obviously a money grabbing scheme.

Positive experience: The new soft is fantastic and good price for kids cost £12 for 3 kids .would of cost £38 at the one on the team valley as they charge for the adults too why I don't know. I would say one thing it was cold at the Leisure centre

Negative experience: Went for a game of squash. Can't believe in a space that big they only have 1 squash court. And the squash court is not in the best of conditions at all.

Fantastic experience: Lovely staff, friendly and helpful. We love our family swimming there and our son loves his lessons. Teachers are amazing.

Fantastic experience: I do a light circuit cardiac work out for 45minutes and really look forward to it. I also do Wednesday at Birtley Leisure Centre.

Fantastic experience: Was so handy when this soft play/climbing frame was open. Really good for both toddlers and older kids. the softplay doesn't seem to have re-opened yet since covid

Negative experience: Tried to change a booking time online and contact the Leisure Centre for help. I was unable to do either and the booking line doesn't open until 9a.m. The Leisure Centre didn't answer any calls despite holding for ages. I found this really poor.

Fantastic experience: I love going to the leisure centre you can go to the gym and use different equipment. There's also swimming pools and sports halls as well as saunas and steam rooms.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing happy friendly welcome back by staff. Safety measures couldn't be better! GLC is the place to be .

Negative experience: Place is dirty and unclean, steam room been broken over 6 months, drainage issues at poolside sauna, rubbish operator times and and majority of the staff are lazy and Hove no interest in working.

Negative experience: The women at the cafe are very grumpy and rude!! Not good customer service at all. It’s too bad!

Fantastic experience: My youngest really enjoyed the small pool which had a selection of inflatables and floats for him to play with. It did get a bit rowdy when a group of kids came into the pool, but the staff were very vigilant and maintained order when they were getting a bit too exuberant.

Positive experience: The softplay area and the clip and climb are great for the young ones! The swimming pools are clean and the change areas are basic. My only down side is the same sex change rooms
