Shaw Hill Golf & Spa Hotel: Opinions
Positive experience: Had Christmas party there, nothing special, ok. The stand out thing was how expensive the drinks were! Ended up wearing my main course, but I didn't mark it down for an accident, that's just bad luck!
Negative experience: On Saturday we came for afternoon tea with santa What an absolute disappointment, quite shocking to say the least There was nothing festive about the day at all No festive food on the afternoon tea No christmas theme to the room Children did not get a gift Photo was even taken with your own mobile phone Even the crackers did not have a novelty in. Our table of 4 was one of the smallest so at £25 each Just quite disgusted to be honest!!!
Fantastic experience: Had our Christmas do one Friday night here and the service was fantastic! Very easy process to book and arrange and the organisation on the evening with all the meals on each name tag was fabulous, saved me the job of reminding everyone what they had ordered. Would highly recommend for anyone booking a Christmas Party Night!
Fantastic experience: Had lunch. Excellent food, good choices
Negative experience: Check into my room, notice the mattress was too hard and not suitable for my back as iv got back issues and disabled, Spoke too jamie who was at reception that night and explained I wasn’t happy and that I was gonna book another hotel, he told me too get booking.com too call or email and he would refund me but as I stood there for an hour maybe more and the carpark I couldn’t get signal and told him the situation. He never offered me another bedroom or anything suitable too help with my disability, So I booked another hotel in Blackburn, After just finishing working after a long day. On the 8th November I rang and spoke too the manager and told her I would like a refund She lied and told me jamie offered another bedroom /upgrade, I told her none of that was mentioned if it was I would have taken them on it or assess the situation. The manger told me I wouldn’t be getting a refund because Jamie offered me a better bedroom ,(which he never)if he did why would I book another hotel. Once they got payment they will keep it and tell you lies I’m a single dad working too provide for my daughter iv lost £105.00 working away I won’t get that back unless they refund me. But the manger would rather lie. 1 he didn’t offer anything jamie. 2 if he did why would I book another hotel and I have proof, Please if you have a. Disability do not book they will take your mouth money and lie if it doesn’t help your disability.
Negative experience: Awful condition, sanded greens, fairsways werent cut and had to use mats at a rate of £4 to rent. None of this was mentioned when booking the tee time. Best bit about the venue was the starter, lovely chap. Wont be returning :)
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, always willing to help
Negative experience: 1 ⭐ service. Enough said
Negative experience: One of the worst hotels I have honestly ever stayed in, firstly there's no robes for spa, then asked for spare towels which was a five pound hire for one towel which is ridiculous, then have to walk outside too get too spa, food in evening was awfull N give me food poisoning and then in the morning my mum was the same off breakfast! The room was freezing n radiator didn't even warm up, was a heater in the cupboard which was put on but smelt like death so had too turn it off. Room was very outdated, service for food and drinks was not good atall. Very over priced n will never be returning again!
Fantastic experience: A very enjoyable time staying here for nearly 2 weeks. The staff were amazing and very helpful and friendly. My original room had a tiny TV which I couldn't even see from the bed, so the lovely Linda on reception changed my room for me. Next room (23) was great and sleep quality was great. Breakfast was very good too. Caroline and Aby at breakfast were great. Stu, Jamie and all the staff we spoke with were all amazing too.

Fantastic experience: great place food exceptional friendly service. Spotless rooms. Telly was broke in room 7 and golf buggies were a little pricey other than that smashing hotel
Positive experience: The staff are excellent. Golf course is really good. Rooms are a bit tired and due for a refurb I believe; hotel otherwise is good.
Negative experience: Hotel wasn't bad, but the food was awful. Padróns - these just tasted of vegetable oil, there was no pepper flesh left it was cooked until shrivelled, and the skin was burned. Lamb duo - the shredded breaded lamb was decent, but the lamb shank was chewy on the outside, and raw in the centre. The gravy was awful, it tasted like double concentrate gravy granules or Bovril. I had cauliflower cheese on the side, the cauliflower was tasteless and the cheese sauce was watery and did not taste like cheese, it was basically just flour & water. Fortunately I was able to get the padrons taken off my bill, as these were inedible, but overall the food quality was dire. Id had a long day and hungry so I ate most of it, but if I'd been asked during the meal how it was, I'd have wanted to send it all back to the kitchen.
Fantastic experience: Attended a fund raiser is said of the Suzy Orrsome Foundation. We contributed by donating T two inches of Revive 'magic juice' for raffling.
Fantastic experience: We only took a young lady to her prom
Fantastic experience: Great day with the Norcross golf society, Shaw hill stepped in at the last minute with 30 tees when Leyland flooded
Positive experience: Just visiting but looked a really nice place.
Positive experience: The rooms were clean, however the shower pressure and temperature control was awful and as others have said, the beds are small but quite comfy. The amenities were good but the swimming pool was cold. The spa treatments were great and the staff were lovely and provided great customer service. In the restaurant the food was nice, however £7.50 for 4 sticks of battered vegetables is outrageous. The dining staff did not check on us once during any of our meals to see how the food was and weren’t friendly at all, but there was a gentleman working on the bar that was very lovely so props to him. The restaurant looked nice however the atmosphere was bleak. Upon leaving we were not even asked how our stay was, it seems they expect you to like it and don’t really care if you do or not, which is obvious as they don’t seem to reply to any reviews either. Overall definitely more expensive than it’s worth as they massively need to improve on their customer service.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous course in great condition go and try it
Positive experience: Nice place in a good location but drinks are expensive. Got a ground floor room (No 16) With a view of a wall.
Positive experience: Cons Premier inn standard room but double the money. Bed is tiny, I am 5ft 8" and my feet hang over the end. Its not a full double we've had to push beds together. Drinks are massively overpriced (captive audience) Pros: Staff are polite and friendly. Service is good. Beautiful location. Especially for a wedding.
Fantastic experience: Shaw Hill hosted yet another amazing presentation dinner dance evening for us. The food was as always fantastic, staff so accommodating and efficient and the management staff are incredibly helpful and professional when booking the event. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Rooms looked amazing and amazing food went for a wedding omg amazing
Positive experience: Lovely location and setting. Staff friendly and well trained. Bar prices and portions are astronomical . Large wine is small compared to elsewhere. Nice place
Positive experience: Went to the new restaurant the food was good and the service was good. What was missing was someone watching over the dining area as it wasn't easy to get anyone when they had delivered the food. A small criticism but important when you want say mint sauce and there is no one to ask. I am sure this will get sorted would recommend it didn't put me off.
Fantastic experience: Had a beautiful meal, food and service was excellent
Fantastic experience: Really nice place food is very good
Fantastic experience: This is our wedding venue and we love re visiting. The staff are wonderful nothing is ever too much trouble for them. We went back to try the new restaurant following it's refurb, a few little teething problems but nothing we would see as a major issue. The food is divine, it always exceeds our expectations.
Fantastic experience: We had a perfect Saturday evening at the modern and elegant Brasserie yesterday. It is a cut above most places with a warm welcome from the Manager Stuart , friendly bar staff and Judith, our lovely waitress. Each course was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The black pudding bon bon dish was a show stopper.! All in all a perfect five star fine dining experience, we will definitely return.
Negative experience: Wouldn’t recommend a stay at the Shaw Hill Hotel if you want a good night sleep. I had a two night stay for work purposes and didn’t sleep well either night. The room I was put in was directly above the bar which had music playing; on the second night the music was on until 1am. In my frustration I picked up the phone to call reception - the phone did not have the ability to do so as it was so old. I decided if I were to get any sleep before work the next day, I had to go down to the bar myself to ask them to turn the music off. The staff member there said he was in the process of doing so - but why was the music on until 1am, especially when there were no customers in the bar? The bed was not particularly comfortable and the floorboards in and outside of the room are squeaky due to the hotel being an old building - you can hear everyone walking outside of your room. Generally, the hotel is dated - don’t be fooled by the modern bar when walking through the doors, the bedroom I was in was not as luxurious! Positives - generally the room was clean and receptionists were friendly. Overall, I wouldn’t stay again.
Negative experience: Went for luxury spa I wouldn't call it luxury the treatmens we're fine but the spa it's self needs a lot of updating. No herbal teas offered just water . Facilities in the pool area are absolutely non existent no water to drink , only a couple of sun loungers swimming pool absolutely freezing children screaming in the pool not relaxing at all . The changing rooms are more like school locker rooms shower curtain hanging off only one hairdryer working and need a lot of updating all rusty around mirrors very disappointing
Positive experience: Shoddy rooms small TV outdated but food was lovely and so we're staff also spa was good and nail tech was lovely
Negative experience: Christmas party. Awful. Crammed as many people in as possible. Even stuck my party on a table with people we didn't know, uncomfortable. Dreadful DJ playing obvious boring party tunes a 12 year old could have thought up, no effort. Dance floor very small for number of people there. Food average, drinks very expensive, not enough bar staff.
Fantastic experience: Here at Shaw Hill for a New Year gourmet dinner. The food has been excellent and the service very good indeed. Lovely setting to let the new year in. Staff have been so helpful and at this point the evening has exceeded our expectations. We visited the venue the week before Christmas, to change 2 items for my wife on the set dinner. Everything came as requested and something of a first when comparing to other venues.
Negative experience: Pros: Friendly, helpful staff, the food was very nice. Cons: the rooms we stayed in were damp and it was showing around the windows and also smelt of damp, very very basic rooms for what we was charged. The shower was put together incorrectly, hot was cold, cold was hot, on was off and so on. Other guests were having after parties once the bar closed in rooms until around 3:30am, keeping members of our family awake. “Members” of the golf club were very rude to staff and guests, thinking they were above other paying guests, they were also prioritised at the bar over other guests so you was waiting for a drink for a while. Overall it wasn’t a very good stay and we won’t be coming back in a hurry.
Fantastic experience: Works Christmas Do Food was fantastic great atmosphere good night was had by all drinks was a bit pricey
Positive experience: Had a Christmas meal...just about ok but won't be rushing back.
Positive experience: Xmas party, seating very cramped, food service was OK if a little disorganised, venue chose seating plan with little opportunity to change, drinks prices on the high side but to be expected from this type if venue. Food quality was very good for the amount of covers every credit to the chefs . Serving staff were all young and I experienced, but the banqueting manager did his utmost to ensure service ran as best it could. Music was a little loud for me, and quite a few others liking as we took refuge in a separate room.
Fantastic experience: Lovely meal in the restaurant. Friendly staff. Food was fantastic.
Fantastic experience: Excellent venue for a wedding or if you needed somewhere to stay overnight. The staff are incredibly helpful and professional but also nice as well which you don't find too often anymore. Highly recommended!
Positive experience: Just returned from an overnight stay at a friend's Wedding , the location, staff, service and food were all excellent, the rooms however let the venue down, as are very dated and damp smelling, which for the cost, you would have expected more
Negative experience: Awful - needs updating, room walls thin you can hear through the walls things you do not want to hear!! Bed small and hard food poor! I won’t stay here again
Fantastic experience: Wedding party weekend--- really enjoyed it, BUT-- could do with a bit of upgrading now---( for prices charged) and no lift for 3floors-( I found stairs hard with a bad leg!! ). Lovely venue- lovely grounds- and really lovely staff. ❤️
Fantastic experience: Fantasticly refurbishedcPenina suite, ideal location to host you wedding or special event.
Fantastic experience: I can only go off what my son said as I bought a gym membership for him and he said it's the best gym of all the gyms he has visited (he has visited a lot)
Positive experience: Didn't stay at the hotel just visited the golf shop. Very nice and helpful staff. The surroundings are beautiful and looks like a very well kept golf course
Fantastic experience: Just nipped over for a couple of hours and meet friends in the new bar area. Nice vibe and great staff.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful venue for wedding stunning golf course quite expensive at the bar great staff very friendly would recommend
Negative experience: A spa day with afternoon was booked & planned for a very special day, 6 months in advance. The discussions of requests and importance of the day took place at the point of booking, and the day before. On arrival treatment times had been changed without discussion & no option to change. The treatments were lovely. The facilities are very good but outdated. The afternoon tea was awful. They did not honour their agreement. Repeatedly failed to honour it on the day and made decisions on assumptions. The service was awful, the seating area was dirty, the food was of poor quality. I did offer feedback via their email account, which offered no apology or reply I then followed this up and again no reply from the spa, or hotel. I then used the contact us form on the website site and still no response. What a way to treat customers who spent over two hundred pound for the hours spend there and have your day ruined. I would suggest that you find my details and contact me directly in place of popping in a none response or public apology which is not appropriate. I also hope that you do not do this to other customers moving forward.
Fantastic experience: Just did a drop off for prom. Lovely grounds but the parking lot is way too small
Negative experience: I have tried hard to find something good to say about this place. It is an absolute dump and I say that with the greatest of honesty. On arrival you are taken in with the beautiful surroundings and the enormity of the building. You have very high expectations that fall flat very quickly. I arrived at reception and the lady who was on was nothing short of unhelpful. I booked into the Room and was given Room 3. I was advised that this was up various flights of winding stairs and I asked if there were no rooms lower. I was informed that there was not as they had a wedding on. Whilst I was doing my booking, a lovely lady came to the reception to pay her green fees. The receptionist turned away from me and began talking to her. The green fees lady actually suggested to her that she finish dealing with me first but she ignored this initially and I said it was fine and waited. I have a genetic heart condition and a bad knee so I was forced to stop three times on the way to the room to catch my breath. Once in the room, I had to take my GTN spray which I had not used within one year. I was angry, disappointed and exhausted. The room was allegedly a luxury room. It was mediocre at best. It was dirty, it was old and it was very tired. The pictures do not even begin to tell you how much this place needs a face lift. I thought I would go for a bath but I could not get the outside door to lock no matter what way I tried. I tried calling but no reply. I then was forced to walk back to reception and ask the lady to show me how to lock the room. She looked at me as if I was stupid telling me that she had shown me how to lock it. She reluctantly came up. I asked her again why people were not accommodated when they could not manage stairs. Her response was you booked a luxury room and that is where they are. THESE ARE NOT LUXURY ROOMS. The TV continually pixilated, the place was in need of a good clean and the only difference between this room and a standard room is that it had biscuits and a hairdryer. Yes I was moved the next night to a standard room with no biscuits and no hairdryer. The biscuits I could not have cared less about but seriously, no hairdryer. This is a basic in a hotel not a luxury and utterly ridiculous to come out of a shower and find you cannot dry your hair. Never assume they say !! On chatting with a lady at breakfast, she had a very similar experience as me with the receptionist. Sadly however their experience was much worse as they had been part of a wedding party and this hotel does not accommodate people with wheelchairs. I witnessed this first hand at breakfast when the dad struggled to organise the seats to manoeuvre the wheelchair and not a single staff member helped. There were two on the floor at the time. I was horrified to learn that the bride had been in tears as the hotel had placed her in the luxury rooms on the top floor and one of her bridal party could not get up to see her or join in the mornings event as she too was in a wheelchair. I can only imagine that on first look, this is every brides dream but to be shattered on the day and always remember your day for having to exclude a member of your bridal party because they have the audacity to be disabled!. Utterly shocking and the response she got was that the lady would have to wait at the bottom of the stairs until everyone else was ready. I cannot end without informing you of my budget room. Room 16. The first thing that struck me when I went out the door to reach this block of rooms was the smell. As I entered the corridor the damp, musky smell overwhelmed me. I opened the door and found a strong sweet smell as they had plugged in air fresheners to mask this awful dampness. I can assure you it did not and only left a sickly taste in your mouth. You may ask, why I did not leave. I tried but having paid hundreds of pounds for myself and colleague to stay, the hotel refused to refund me to allow me to go elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Golf course was great considering the dry weather, greens very good. The meal afterwards was good too.
Fantastic experience: I had an Elemis full body massage in the Spa, and it was brilliant! So relaxing! Very pleasant surroundings. Lovely therapist who gave an excellent massage.
Fantastic experience: Attended a Charity Lunch. Lovely surroundings, attentive staff and excellent food.
Positive experience: Stunning place, not very busy, service quite relaxed, had afternoon tea which was OK but had better for the price, scones far too dry. I had decaf tea which was redbush which is an acquired taste really.
Fantastic experience: Nice hotel and spa with lovely restaurant. Stayed in room 15 which has two big windows which let the sun shine in. Helpful friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Had afternoon tea for a baby shower. The food was lovely and the service was top notch. Even Though it was busy they were still really lovely and took good care of us. Definitely recommend
Fantastic experience: We booked for a couple get away deal during April. The food was delicious. The room was fantastic. Some of the servers let it down though. Just seemed unhappy to be there and not very friendly. Most of the staff were great and made up for the others. Absolutely brilliant atmosphere and fantastic deal. They also were more than happy to accommodate requests on food changes.
Positive experience: Just returned form a 2night stay today, (20/3/23-22/3/23). Set in a stunning back drop to the golf fare way, large car park with barrier for access! From booking to arriving most welcoming engaging staff, nothing too much trouble very helpful. We did pay for a up grade, which we were shown to the Turnberry Suite on entrance exceptionally large sitting area with leather sofa, coffee table etc following round a corner huge sleeping area. Very tastefully decorated with stunning views from various positions down the far way. Huge walkin bathroom with bath and shower the pressure could have been better! "Hey" large bath towels. (another of my grumbles) Large TV in lounge area not visable from the bedroom, coffee and tea tray with assortment of shortbread biscuits replenished daily. Plenty of storage for clothing, draws in dressing table etc wardrobe with ample coat hangers(my one big grumble not having enough) hairdryer and ironing facilities. Dinning both evenings with slightly different menus food exceptional (well done chef) Breakfast both mornings ordered and served at your table pipping hot good quality produce! It would be unfair to single one person out!!! Every member of staff greeted you with a genuine smile and most pleasant Manor. Would certainly recomend and will look forward to returning in the future! Management should be proud of the welcoming atmosphere, their staff have perfected I hope this will be conveyed to all departments!
Fantastic experience: Attended a well being event so didn't stay. Lovely location. Car park was a problem due to mountains of sand and grit taking up lots of spaces. Otherwise a nice day .
Negative experience: I came to the hotel today, for several hours, as a wellbeing event was being held there. We had one cup of tea and a small bottle of sparkling water, which they charged £7.45 for. The table hadn't been cleaned, despite it sitting empty for some time, and the dirty crockery was even left after our drinks were brought to the table. The toilets were out of order too. Sadly, poor impressions left after a first visit.
Fantastic experience: Had a spa day there. Lovely time, great service, good value.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic vacation. Staff we're friendly and helpful With special mention to Sue who pampered us during breakfast and afternoon tea a real outstanding example of how to make people feel special. Can't wait to find another excuse to visit the area.
Positive experience: Went for afternoon tea. Staff lovely but really busy. I really needed some water when eating, but no one came back. Otherwise, it would have been 5 stars for everything!
Positive experience: Lovely place great surroundings friendly staff only down side bar a bit small for the size of function we attended
Negative experience: Golf course OK but we're not told we would be playing off mats when booked and had to hire the mats from pro shop to play and when finished round went to pro shop to get our deposits back for mats and shop was closed!!Then had to try retrieve money from hotel.Wont be returning any time soon
Positive experience: Had a spa indulgence day today which included use of the leisure facilities, a treatment and afternoon tea. My friend and I chose the facial which was amazing and the afternoon tea was delicious and the staff very attentive. The only negatives to the day were that we arrived just after 9am and fancied a hot drink first and was told to make our way to bar for this. We got over to the bar to be told it was closed. Ok, no bother, we decided to go to the pool where there were kids swimming lessons going on till ten with parents using all the seating. When the loungers came available after they had all left there were only 3 and there was myself and my friend and another two ladies already using two. I asked at reception to see if there were anymore which there wasn’t. Unfortunately that mean we were trying to relax on furniture that was very upright with no cushions-uncomfortable. Overall it was lovely but would have been better if we had been told at booking that there were kids swimming lessons going on and maybe a few more loungers poolside.
Fantastic experience: Went for a spa day with afternoon tea and have to say was fantastic. Felt so relaxed the only thing I'd change would be to choose what sandwich we would like as didn't like the ones we had. Would do it again and recommend to everyone.
Negative experience: We did not stay over and went for dinner on Christmas Eve , very disappointed, the restaurant was cold, no atmosphere either, the service lacked the finesse that you would expect from a venue of this calibre. Our waiter led us to our table without offering to carry our drinks to the dinner table. The wine was left on our table opened and no one came to offer to pour or check it was to our liking. No one came to check if we were enjoying the meal. Little points, the food was a little disappointing and we are left wondering if we did the right thing by booking the New Year's ball.
Negative experience: We did not stay we came for afternoon tea, we brought our children as I wanted to show them where I got married. The food was alright but we were put in the gold room which was cold with no atmosphere at all it was just my family. The reception lady was not very friendly either. This is such a shame as we were looking forward to this as a nice Christmas treat
Fantastic experience: Shaw Hill is an outstanding place to visit as the Hotel is spotlessly clean and the swimming pool is great. To top of this incredible experience the swimming pool has a sauna and a steam room: very few hotels have that! The breakfast is the best as the chef is an incredible chef who can cook delicious food. There is an assortment of food you can have for breakfast like: a full English Breakfast , fruit, cereal and lots more. Overall I think Shaw Hill is a brilliant experience and I pledge to go there every year with my family. I will continue to state how outstanding this place is. Even though I have not been to the cricket club and grounds I am sure Shaw Hill won't hesitate to surprise us all! Brilliant place!!!
Positive experience: The course was in pretty decent condition considering the time of year and the recent wet weather, unfortunately this caused very slow play with people looking for balls where they've plugged or run into leaves. As visitors to the course we didn't feel welcome, the kid in the clubhouse could just about tear himself away from his mobile long enough to mutter something about playing off mats before he returned to his phone, some of the members thought shouting and gesticulating from the tee box while we waited for the green to clear was the correct way to act. May be some time before I want to play there again. Not a reflection on the course just a shame some of the staff and members don't have the same level of respect for the course as the grounds keepers.
Fantastic experience: We only had a meal there but the food was fabulous. Highly recommended.
Negative experience: Booked a room, was never told deposit was non refundable, had to cancel within a few hours to be told deposit non refundable, spoke to a numnuts of a chap who just kept repeating the same sentence over and over again that the lkady I booked the room with would have told me it was non-refundable, which she clearly did not. Idiots are running the organisation. Ppromised a call back to arrange the booking for the past two weeks without success, everybody I spoke with could not assist. Room booked to attend a function and then to be told no space at the function, useless customer services.
Negative experience: ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY Green keeper stopped us playing at 2pm to switch the hole position, just as I was about to take my shot into the green. Incredibly overpriced for the standard of course Very poor customer service in the club shop as the golf pro insisted my dad to “hurry up” when selecting a glove to purchase
Positive experience: Lovely golf course, staff are great but the bar area and rooms are extremely dated. Rooms are communal areas were cold.
Fantastic experience: I was a member of shaw Hill for numerous yrs always been a top course. Its actually harder and better now than when I was a member. Fully recommend course and clubhouse very friendly staff and definitely friendly members.
Fantastic experience: The hotel is beautiful, with nice facilities like pool, gym, sauna and spa. The food was good and breakfast was too.
Fantastic experience: Restaurant manager Tony is excellent. Bar staff very friendly. The food is to die for. I highly recommend staying here and experiencing first class service in all departments!
Fantastic experience: Went here to book rooms for my duaghters wedding next April, Linda was the receptionist and couldn't have been any more helpful than she was. All of our family rooms were booked and we also booked 2 tables in the restaurant for the night before, excellent service and an amazing venue.
Fantastic experience: Went to Wedding reception I thought the building and surrounding area was really nice and clean plenty parking would recommend.
Negative experience: Despite being quiet when we arrived and only 4 of us, the speed of food service was atrocious and the waiter was surly and poor. He brought the wrong drinks and when advised we had been waiting 45 minutes for coffee he didn't apologise, just saying he hadn't heard about it. The female waiting staff were excellent, but we had over 40 minutes wait between every course. I wouldn't rush back. The manager's excuse was that they had a young lad on starters and deserts and he was struggling. I get it, but the restaurant wasn't even 1/4 full.
Positive experience: Enjoyed the golf the greens were excellent. Evening meal lacked vegetables which was slightly strange but was good otherwise. Staff excellent. Rooms dated as expected but had plenty of room. Shower dated and not enough power. Enjoyed the stay.
Fantastic experience: Great 3 star hotel and facilities with great view overlooking the golf course. Vardens restaurant very nice as well. Minor issue with evening meal which the manager resolved quickly and correctly, well done to him. Special mention to staff member Jamie who dealt with us exceptionally well & professionally and thanks to him and others, as well as the facilities on site, we would definitely book to stay here again. Thank you for a great stay !!
Fantastic experience: We chose this venue for our wedding and from meeting the wedding coordinator Nina the very first time we felt we'd made the right choice with her attention to detail and ability to listen to and meet our requests. The venue is stunning and helped us create beautiful photos, with the gold room offering a glorious setting for our ceremony. Following the ceremony we were able to relax in either the courtyard or the conservatory between photographs giving us the opportunity and space to meet and talk to our guests. The afternoon tea we had for our wedding breakfast was extremely good as was the BBQ we opted for as our evening buffet. The venue DJ guy Barker listened to our suggestions of music for the night and ensured the dancefloor was never empty. The whole team throughout the day were as my wife said AMAZING. The bar team had even created a Mr and Mrs cocktail based on our favourite alcohol for us and guest to enjoy throughout the day. I would strongly recommend anyone looking for a wedding venue to keep Shaw hill in your thoughts as initially we hadn't even considered the idea of a golf club but extremely happy we did.
Fantastic experience: Great golf club and course looks like a refurbishment is going on in side it needed it a little bit dated but can't wait to see what it looks like next time I visit
Fantastic experience: On arrival initial impression was the hotel was a little tired as were the rooms. However, the rooms are spotless and very comfortable. The best bit was the staff. At breakfast because I am dieting I asked for a fuit smooth made with oat milk. Not on the menu but Sue was amazing and provided the most wonderful fruit smoothy. At our second breakfast she again went above and beyond by bringing in her own blender to make my smoothy. We had a meal in the hotel restaurant and Miles looked after us. His attention to detail was superb ever present but not intrusive. His knowledge of the wines was excellent and he made wonderful Irish coffee. I would highly rate the hotel based on the staff alone they were exceptionnel.
Negative experience: Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Our room was upgraded but we had to ask to move as the chandelier moved every time the people above moved, and we could not open any windows. Other room was acceptable but nothing special. Hotel in desperate need of work to bring it up to standard. Were looking forward to our stay but very disappointed
Fantastic experience: Great golf course and in excellent condition. The Hotel is ok. Bedroom a bit dated but very clean.
Fantastic experience: Our daughter and her husband had their wedding reception here on Friday. To say it went perfectly is an understatement! There are not enough words to describe how fantastic it was. Nina was just incredible to have as a wedding planner and from start to finish nothing was too much trouble. We had everything we wanted and more beside. Lauren and Tony were on hand afternoon and evening to help with anything we needed. The food was served quickly and seamlessly with nobody waiting whilst others ate. There were many comments about how impressed guests were by the standard of food and service. In the evening Guy, the resident DJ was lovely, very accommodating and created a fantastic family party atmosphere. The setting is just glorious and with the lovely weather we were blessed it was stunningly beautiful. Very happy with how all our wedding stuff was tidied away by staff and stored away ready for us to collect the following morning and even then we were not rushed out. We all enjoyed a family breakfast together after a very comfortable night and waved the bride and groom off on their honeymoon in a relaxed manner even though the staff were now extremely busy preparing for another bigger wedding that day. We true grateful to them all for making the wedding day as amazing as it possibly could be. Thank you so much to everyone involved.
Positive experience: Had afternoon tea, to meet groom to be parents, as the wedding is to be at Shaw hill. Had food in restaurant, nicely served and well presented. Table staff were very efficient and when asked for something more than happy to provide. No rush to leave the table either, all good.
Positive experience: Room needed a good patching and painting, no fan in bathroom strange nail on bathroom door. Tv in wrong place. Lock to door faulty. Evening wedding reception being held right next to restaurant and an hen party in adjoining room spoiled our evening meal. Jack on pool reception was very friendly.
Fantastic experience: I spent Saturday evening here in a private room for a hen meal. The room was lovely and bright and we were sat on a rectangular table that was set ready to go, a good set up as we could drop in on a conversation from pretty much anywhere on the table. The food was lovely. We ordered from a preset menu, I had souffle, beef wellington, followed by a sticky toffee pudding. Every course was served warm and was very tasty. The staff were attentive with drinks. Lovely place, would recommend.
Fantastic experience: Was greeted with a very warm welcome, the staff at the main desk were very helpful, Breakfast every morning was very good an exceptional service from Tina, very polite and well mannered. The rooms were clean and tidy and spacious
Positive experience: Lovely place ,can't make my mind up if it needs uplifting or just leaving alone. Service was a bit slow but really enjoyed the afternoon tea. The staff are lovely
Positive experience: Good hotel - reasonably priced 1 night stay for me Positives 1. Free parking available 2. Staff very polite and helpful 3. In what seems like a nice area and nice views 4. Decent spa facilities didn't get to check the gym 5. Hygiene inside was good with various sanitising stations across the building Negatives / room for improvements 1. Rooms are dated and could do with modernising 2. More plug sockets needed in the bedroom . Nice and handy to have a socket by the bed. 3. Rather than have a big massive keyring and key maybe updated swipe cards like most hotels do. The keyring was as big as a smart phone in terms of size I didnt try any food so cannot comment
Positive experience: Had a spa day including an afternoon as a group of seven on my wife’s birthday. The spa and treatments were very good, although in places the spa does feel very dated. The afternoon tea was good quality, however the service was slow and felt unprofessional at times. The real issue though came after we had left our spa day. I received a phone call at stating we had not paid, I confirmed that my wife had paid before we had left and asked that they go and double check there records before calling me back as I’d need to disturb my wife from her 30th birthday party to find the receipt. Once more she rang back and said she definitely hadn’t received payment, so I had to get my wife out to confirm she had paid and give the payment info.
Fantastic experience: Brought my Grandma here for Afternoon Tea today and the service and food was excellent. We were both so impressed with how out of the way the staff went to accommodate us and make the experience very special. Oliver in particular was absolutely wonderful. Highly recommend and we will be back very soon! Thank you x
Negative experience: Poor service and bad attitude. Very unclean rooms. Carpets full of stains and burns. Electrical appliances not been tested for almost 2 years. Very dated hairdryer and TV. Very poor experience for £100/night. Would not pay to retrun.
