Slough Ice Arena: Opinions
Positive experience: car park is a nightmare cars parked on double yellow lines blocking the entrance and exit . blocked in by aragant drivres . ice skates, however, was good
Negative experience: Today, on Wednesday 27th of November 2024, I came for a public ice skating session from 10.30 - 1.15 & paid at reception. But when I was stepping to ice, the member of staff was putting barriers, and he said that only half of the ice rink is for public usage. Ok, I started skating on that half, but another member of staff was giving toddler lessons and taking half of our half, so, we who came for public skating could only use 1/4 of ice rink. I tried to skate .. but after 10 minutes, felt very congested and unsafe and couldn’t enjoy my time. I went to reception and asked Liam, the on duty manager? for a refund, but was firmly refused, straight answer: “ I can’t help you”. I asked for the main manager, and a lady came - Emily, and her answer was the same, a firm “there’s nothing we can do”. But when I once again pointed out that they were selling public ice skating sessions, but using 3/4 of area for private sessions, and only 1/4 for public usage, she offered me 1 free session. She told me that every year at this time, from mid November till mid February, public can use only half, and on Wednesdays only 1/4 of ice rink. The question is, why there isn’t anything about it on the website? Or while booking online? If this happens every year, and for 3 months, there should be a clear notice on the website and a warning when booking. Also, if only half the rink can be used, the price should be discounted accordingly. What I experienced today was nothing short of a scam. Extremely disappointed.
Fantastic experience: I was only ice skating there, and really liked it. Staff is nice there, and quality of ice was good. I had my own ice skates and can’t tell much about rental ones.
Negative experience: Have called for days and days on end. No-one answers the phone or calls you back after you leave messages. Even put through enquiries via the everyone active app. Someone from everyone active centre calls back and tells me that I need to get through to the ice rink as they only do bowling, climbing ,VR etc Why put up offers online for ice skating where you have to book via the phone if there is no one that works in reception! Worst I have ever seen. Complete waste of time. Thank goodness I didn't bother booking my sons birthday party. Sounds like no one actually works there
Fantastic experience: needs more parking space
Fantastic experience: Great fun
Negative experience: It’s 2nd week they still closed don’t know for what reason and charges are still same,, wow
Negative experience: Understaffed, poorly maintained and they've allowed the construction of flats adjacent to block off parts of the walkway relied on by parents and children to be blocked off for extended periods of time long after the works for that bit have been completed. Toilets been busted in here for months on end and they manually turn the air con off in the gym. Multiple staff members have been told there's no toilet paper there when I get there at 9am, only for them to still be on their phones and no toilet paper by 11am. There has been no hand soap in here except the one time it was used as a polling station
Positive experience: Everyone is very nice and coffee and snacks are available from the reception/welcome desk. Despite visiting over 14 times during the summer school holidays (at different times of day), the cafe was never open, which was a shame as I was the chauffeur (mums taxi service) while the kiddos went ice-skating so would have liked to use the cafe. The 5 day ice-skating crash course, was really good value and the instructor (Poppy?) was lovely.
Fantastic experience: amazing place for kids fun activity especially in wall climbing, Josh and his team provided a lovely supportive and highly friendly experience.
Negative experience: Never anyone at reception. I had kids groupon vouchers for climbing and I called like 10 times and then I sent a family member to go and book since no one answering. I had to change booking time and when I called the next day (after 10 or 12 calls they answered) they said I don't have any booking. Not enough staff, bad management. I even left voicemail a few times but doesn't really make a difference. I been here before for skating the service was good last time but this time absolutely poor, that I do not think I will go again there at all. I was at reception for like 10mins and I called the number thinking the reception will hear phone ring and come out but even phone is on silent mode and you see my call showing up.
Fantastic experience: I had an ice skating birthday party for my little girls 8th birthday. The staff bent over backwards to ensure everything went well. Food was good, squash was plentiful. Kept checking everything was OK. The girl who helped us get all the skates was friendly and so helpful. The boys delivering the drinks and tidying were so friendly and accommodating. The girls bringing the food were great, one pizza was forgotten and they did everything to solve the situation quickly so certainly not a negative. There were marshals on the ice to help the kids at all times. Faultless. Thank you do much all for making my daughters party so fabulous xxx
Fantastic experience: I am very impressed by the professionalism of the staff at Slough Ice rink. I had some issues booking a session on the app so I rang the reception and my problem was solved straight away. Excellent service, thanks for your help!
Negative experience: One of the worst changing rooms in the country.
Negative experience: Sat 8th June: Checked website timetable which said open Saturdays 18:30-20:30, tried calling around 17:30 to double-check that they were definitely open but no one answered. Got there at 18:20 after driving all the way from Maidenhead to find there was an ice hockey match going on. No one at front desk despite big sign saying front of house open to 18:30 on Saturdays. This would explain why they didn't answer the phone an hour earlier too. Why not just put it on the website that there is no public skate session?! We were not the only ones arriving to be sorely disappointed. Absolute waste of time and highly disorganised.
Fantastic experience: It’s a great idea to have a ice arena for the public
Positive experience: Small rink, limited parking and views from the seats (away fans) is not brilliant
Positive experience: Good activity list. Ice skating sassions can be more open for public and i believe they should be at more reasonable price (it is not easy to pay £30 just for one hour session for 3 kids. Timings for the public skating also not very good (daytime when everyone is working, either late evening). Staff are always away from the front desk, whenever you come for your session there is big queue (especially on school holidays). Washrooms: often not looked after properly (missing toilet paper, overflowing bins) Car park is really small these days.
Positive experience: Really nice ice rink, great customer service and quick service for skates. The only thing is that we paid for 2 hours of skating, but after 1 hour the Zambezi redid the ice and then a hockey team began playing, meaning we could skate for the second hour. Even then, at £10 each it’s very affordable and good fun. After skating we also checked out the rock climbing wall inside the building, which was also really good fun, and the trainers were really helpful, guiding and lovely.
Negative experience: Don't us the website. After checking the details on the site we arrived at the rink to skate. Only to be told that the session wasn't happening and we should not use the website as its often wrong. This was from the manager! Extra frustrating as I had tried to call and all calls were sent to voice mail. Facilities are excellent but management are failing.
Negative experience: Fell on the ring and was told I'm ok don't worry just ice it. Drove to the hospital. Broken my ankle in 4 places and had to have major surgery. They really should have better paramedics on site to see if you are actually injured or not. As it could mean you make your injury worse.
Positive experience: Lovely rink. Struggled to find the age range of a junior and phones weren't answered in business hours so we took a guess. Toilets were grim, no loo roll, dirty and faeces on one of the seats.
Negative experience: It's disgusting, my daughter skates at 5.30 am and the lady's toilets there was human waste on the floor walls, they can not say it's from where the rink is busy it opens a 5.30 am. The staff just lay across the counters, doesn't matter what time you come in there just laying across reception. They do not answer the phone. First aid well what first aid there was an injury on the ice it happens shouldn't take 7 minutes for a first aider to show there face. The smells of drugs is unreal, and yes this is a problem in lost of establishments. The music they play across the ice in public sessions has more foul language than a football match, these are sessions where children should be to enjoy.
Positive experience: Ice rink is good but the seating is so hard and people with long legs no good and the design of the rink was bad. The coffee shop needs a something doing with it so slow and they could do more food instead of those not very nice burgers maybe do some chips they just need someone else to go in and recognise the place as in match nights you can que for to long just to get a coffee.
Fantastic experience: I love having an ice rink nearby!
Fantastic experience: Great Arena for sure! If you go for lessons, the teachers are really good at teaching.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic experience watching the Bees
Positive experience: Nice place to take the kids to learn to ice skate. Bathrooms could be cleaner and soap should be a minimum.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place there is gym ,swimming pool ,cafe spacial entertainment for kids ,waiting area, karate club ,physiotherapy clinic place with big parking recommend to everyone
Negative experience: Shocking - don't bother! Arrived 5 minutes early and finally got on the ice 40 minutes late. 'ice rink' was so churned up it was more of a snow rink (we made snowballs), super crowded, absolutely hideous skates (agony!!!). Happy Birthday to my little girl . Queued into the inadequate tiny car-park; Queued at reception for ages; Queued for absolutely ages for skates. Just appalling organisation and inadequate (quantity and quality) staff. 16/2/24 @3-5pm
Positive experience: Honestly really enjoyed it got to enjoy my time with my friends and a bunch others heck I could come back just to have a date here however if there was an option to have helmets or knee and elbow guards would be helpful as me and many of my other friends ended up falling a lot and god forbids someone falling on their head. So I think the availability of safety equipment is vital especially for first timers
Fantastic experience: Really good facilities, very large ice rink, will go again
Fantastic experience: Very fun and easy booking for many fun activities
Positive experience: I took my daughter and 11 of her friends to the Friday evening 'ice disco' for her 16th birthday. She lived it. It wasn't too busy but had enough people to give it a good atmosphere. Facilities were a bit limited. The water fountain was not working but there were vending machines for drinks and snacks. The skate hire was included in ticket price which felt like good value. The venue was pretty clean and has been renovated recently.
Fantastic experience: Not been here for years looks really good great show
Negative experience: Contacted for planning a birthday over a week ago, no reply.
Negative experience: Phone must be broken or staff must be lazy, really not hard to pick up a phone, bad customer service
Fantastic experience: Great place to learn ice skating they have excellent teachers and you can watch ice hockey games
Positive experience: Everything is good except toilet it’s dirty and no handwash is available there. It’s empty i have visited many times in a week and everytime it’s empty and sometimes toilet seat isn’t clean. Please do clean that Thanks
Fantastic experience: Went with friends, for my first time it was the most fun i had in a long time, and while i did get a nasty blister and aching back the next day i would highly reccomend to anyone, just reme.ber tl wear thick socks
Positive experience: Nice place but very expensive
Fantastic experience: Great family value especially the ice skating
Positive experience: Enjoyed family skating session. Busy to expected. But ice in good condition and generally clean. Tidy and well organised.
Fantastic experience: Very fun place not too crowded but big enough space if you wanna learn a new trick or just how how to ice skate.
Negative experience: Skates gave me a friend and all thr kids blisters. Friendly staff skates really let them down unfortunately!
Positive experience: nice new rink, everything feels well maintained around the venue. ice is also very well maintained and there are quite a few sessions. Parking is decent. I dont understand the patch ice entry criteria and, although plentiful, the cost per session (including public) feels quite high relative to for example Guildford. Love coming here for the quality of the ice though!
Negative experience: There are never enough staff to run the facility. Waiting at the front desk for over half an hour again this evening. Staff are always helpful, you can just never find anyone.
Fantastic experience: Loved it Loads of people just having fun Great atmosphere great staff and just a buzz of great customers just having fun Even great mountain walls if you have the head for heights
Fantastic experience: Always nice to come when you are greeted By wonderful staff. From the First day when we Joined ice skating lessons your staff Sal and Emaan was exceptionally fantastic. Helping us to set up an app and showing everything around! Would recommend to everyone this place because of the Sal and Emaan! Guys you are brilliant!
Positive experience: It wasn't the best since parking had been reduced to basically nothing nice kebab shop nearby too
Negative experience: I’ve been to many ice rinks before and this has been the worst one. The reception is rude. Ice rink is fully melt and the skates and terrible. I rented their skates as I was travelling there all the way from London. They were the worst skates I’ve ever worn. The blades are completely blunt. Their reason was health and safety. Unfortunately, health and safety fails when you keep sliding on the ice and cannot even go straight. If I didn’t have any experience, I would’ve fallen may time (like many others) and possibly broken something. They also do not limit how many people can get in. After a while it gets so busy that you cannot even move. At least in London, they don’t allow people after a certain number. The skates are also disgusting and not hygienic. I’ve stayed and watched the team put them back for a while and they did not spray any of the skates. I understand it’s busy and they’re trying to do their work fatally, but it just doesn’t work. These are basic hygiene rules. If you don’t know how ti run a rink, don’t run it at all. Will never be back.
Positive experience: I love this place as someone who does figure skating and had lessons before lockdown the ice is smooth and it is a nice big place to skate in but on Fridays they have a disco and I can get very busy and overcrowded back when I stated ice skating I used the rentals and they are very hard and leave blisters on your feet other than that it is a amazing place.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous ice skating experience
Positive experience: No longer meets my needs - only evening session is now 45 minutes for 11 pounds. Cafe is a bit sad. Parking always full now. Disappointing
Negative experience: Cleanliness is zero! The gym area never has sanitiser no antibacterial spray. Never looked like it’s been cleaned once and I have been there a number of times now. Twice I have gone to use the loos and they’re awful.
Negative experience: Girl on reception is doapy, looked half asleep charged me extra for no good reason. Went back and asked for a refund and said can only be done if I email a certain person etc. So a stupid mistake made by one of their team members cost me extra money and a whole long process to get my money back. Team members on the ice arena just skate around don’t do much, in other words getting paid to skate lol No polar bears were available to rent as they were all rented out. Waited over an hour still couldn’t get one even though rental times are 30 mins or 45 mins. People working here are clowns!!
Positive experience: First time visiting the ice rink with the children, needless to say I was awful at actually skating but the kids enjoyed it. Really impressed with the member of staff on duty at the time, Ethan. He was patient and friendly and able to swiftly accommodate my request for an area to perform prayer.
Fantastic experience: Great place for ice skating, great price which includes skate hire. Nice clean place.
Fantastic experience: We went for clip n climb on Saturday evening and had a great experience.
Positive experience: The ice rink is large, smooth and nice to skate on. The plastic boots are awful though, really uncomfortable and blisters are guatanteed whatever size you try to change to. It would be nicer if there was a decent viewing gallery where parents could watch with a hot drink rather than be cold by the side of the rink. The coffee shop is outside in the reception area so its one or the other unfortunately.
Positive experience: Although the rink is very nice, it’s impossible to actually contact the leisure centre sadly! Also if you do group skate lessons you get free public sessions free, but unless you’re free during standard week hours, you can’t make much use of it as I’ve sadly found out! The rink itself is a good size and I love skating here, there’s also lots of seating available.
Fantastic experience: The Slough Ice Arena was really nice I went there for my birthday and it was lovely and I had an amazing time. It was very busy and I got really tired after but it was definitely worth it.
Fantastic experience: I always enjoy visiting. Had a fantastic time.
Negative experience: Staff are great and ice is well maintained however the rink space is halved during free skate sessions and there is no advertisement of this fact. If you offer out the rink for free skate time you cannot then change the offer half way through.
Positive experience: Fun experience but the skates they provided dug into my feet and pierced my skin so I advice bringing ur own skates!
Fantastic experience: Great place, helpful staff, and plenty of free parking... just be aware that Clip n Climb is different to the Climbing Wall and they're not exchangeable, however we did both and enjoyed them both.
Fantastic experience: We had kids birthday party on ice Rink, kids has fun. Staff was amazing specially Luke and Sophie. Kids party food was not great but overall great experience.
Fantastic experience: Great ice rink, nice and experienced coaches, friendly staff
Fantastic experience: The Slough Ice arena is in a very convenient place in Slough. Us on 15 minutes walko from the bus statipn and train station and the Slough High street. First, we had an idea to go to the ice skating but we changed to climbing. We enjoyed ourselves as well with hot drinks and snacks from the cafe near to the climbing wall. Only one thing the one of the toilets was out of order and had a little queue on the front of the other one.
Fantastic experience: 19/11/23 Slough Bees v MK Lightning Great venue, great match. Parking limited but a friendly crowd and, as always, a night at the Ice Hockey is a tip top action packed fun night out!
Fantastic experience: Went to an ice hockey game. Was great fun. Lots of ways to get involved (Puck or duck toss, 50/50, shirt of the back) as well as cheering on the teams. Very friendly and helpful.
Positive experience: Great venue for ice skating. Disabled parking often parked in by non disabled waiting in their cars to collect people which is really frustrating as not a lot of disabled bays already for the size of the location. Would be better if you didn't have to wait until 10am at weekends for theur cafe food shop to open at the rink when classes start at 830am! Also staff policing the rink often just skate around and rarely highlight the rules to skaters about not skating the wrong way. Also would be better if half way through the public sessions they tell the skaters to swap directions and skate clockwise instead of anticlockwise for symmetry. The electric charging parks are so expensive that if you have hybrid it's now cheaper to use fuel instead. Also learning to skate lessons v disorganised. No set place for the grades or signs to show where on the ice to go. Sometimes too many in a class and some teachers refuse the learner for unknown reasons even though they are that grade. Organisation needs to be improved beyond measure!! Managers please do something about it. Teachers don't level skaters up for years and only in private lessons might a skater be levelled up. Why?? Also teachers bringing their kids to the teaching lesson, child care or 1on1 lessons maybe, when not the same grade and clearly biased in teaching their kid and not the class!!!
Fantastic experience: One of the best rinks in or around London. Staff are friendly, parking is easy and the ice is good. One small issue that I have noticed is that people tend to film A LOT and this can be quite irritating when they try to get you out of the way. Would recommend!
Fantastic experience: Spacious Area, let me be comfortable. Nice place.
Negative experience: Had a clip n climb party for my son today. We booked a party room and well as the hot food selection-this comes with jugs of squash & water, veg sticks and individual tubs of ice cream. It took 6 days for someone to send through the food options, the phone just rings and rings when you try and call, and then they said they never received our food selection and all of a sudden theres urgency. Arrived today and was told there was no party room it’s only available to the ice rink. We specifically chose the Slough location because it had the party room available and we have written confirmation it’s been booked! We were then seated in a corridor where loads of people had to squeeze by us to be able to use the restrooms and cafe. We also never received the ice cream tubs. There was no one over seeing any of this and just very unprofessional. It’s fun for kids as an activity but would not a good choice for a birthday party.
Fantastic experience: Excellent family entertainment for skating, ice hockey, synchronised skating and rock climbing. Must register before coming. Good parking
Positive experience: Ice disco is great but gets quite full and busy. Would be better if there were fewer tickets for the session
Negative experience: We signed up for ice skating classes , but number of teachers compared to beginners skaters was way too small. My child was falling frequently and ended up with sore bottom at the end and fear to go again. 2 lady teachers were mainly holding certain children most times and if you your child is quiet they get overlooked and left alone most times.not very good first impression to be honest . Now I am trying to convince my child to go again. You Definitely need to increase number of teachers for beginners and also teachers have to give equal attention and help to children who need it including the quite ones that struggle and shy to say.
Positive experience: Parking is really tricky at peak times, now the council have shut the overflow carpark.
Fantastic experience: Loved it as I went c2pm in the day so less people! Great sized Rink and I was able to potter at my pace as a no ice-scater! Facilities offered were good and clean. Ice skates really hurt though! Use thicker socks
Fantastic experience: Can be danger for some people who don't know how to skate
Positive experience: Great place to go ice skating! Morning sessions are better as it tends to get overcrowded at later times.
Positive experience: Staff very friendly and always helpful. However, my main concern is that when the rink is at full capacity, there seems to be complete mayhem, as children and their penguins/polar bears, together with other new skaters, just skating all over the place and with no sense of direction. There are coaches trying to teach their clients lessons and spend most of the time trying to avoid collisions. There should be announcements telling parents and skaters to skate anti-clockwise for their own safety, as well as for the ones having lessons.
Fantastic experience: Great arena, however we were given incorrect information of the opening times, anx were sadly disappointed on our arrival. We fix manage to join in a later session.
Negative experience: My friends and I pre-booked 4 tickets for £40. We wanted to pre-book to make sure there would be slots for us to go since we couldn't go ice skating the day before. Low and behold, when we get there the car park bollards were up and blocking the entrance to the main parking area... When talking to one of the staff (who tried their best to help) we found out that the other parking lot nearby was also locked! So the arena booked over 300 people for ice skating but didn't bother organising any sort of parking so that people can actually get in! We couldn't go... So obviously we asked for a refund because £40 is a lot of money these days. The staff member talked to a manager who offered us a voucher... Two of our group don't even live near Slough and it's not like we'd want to go back there anyway since they can't seem to organise parking. My friend who bought the tickets has tried contacting them by phone, they NEVER answer. She has also enquired online (which we were told to do for a refund) and has received nothing in response! How does this place expect new customers to ever return when the service is so dreadful? I hope this review will get someone's attention so that we can at least get our wasted money back!!!
Fantastic experience: Use this rink regularly as my daughter has been learning to skate for a year now. Recently went to a few other rinks and then it becomes apparent just how good Slough actually is. It’s modern, nice and clean, well looked after. A few other rinks are so bad they’re actually depressing to be at. I feel very lucky to live fairly close to Slough. We go to watch hockey there too sometimes and it’s excellent. You’re able to move around for some great viewing positions. Staff are nice and friendly. Car park is ok but lately at 9am Saturday lessons parking has been difficult there. I think they’re aware and are tying to get things sorted. Otherwise it’s a fantastic place where we enjoy spending time.
Negative experience: Trying hard to take the positives out of our time skating to make it worth our trip. Great time spent with family. Staff didn’t have a clue, over 1hour once off the rink to get shoes back out. No system, no staff presence directing public, people pushing in in frustration. As walking out a member of public was complaining staff looked more bothered about her lipstick being out of place than what the customer was saying to her. Skates were not sharp enough so had no grip on the ice. Yet you offer blade sharpening service .
Positive experience: Well you can’t take photos which I understand. But you will need to imagine the place. So it’s cool you have an ice rink in slough. But it’s £40 for 4 which is a lot but I am biased hack by lived in Canada where these are a dime a dozen. Its a proper ice rink so that a plus. We went between Christmas and New Year, I am not kidding, there was 100 people on this rink. We waited 15 min to rent skates, a bit annoying but to be expected during peak ours. This is a good deal but an amazing deal if you are already an everyone active member. Parking is a disaster. If you can walk, do walk. Not huge value for money but if you want to ice skate, it’s the best option in the area.
Fantastic experience: Fun and safe for the family, with comfortable hire boots (not like the "wellies" of the old days!). Shame that the car parking is currently so limited.
Fantastic experience: Great ice rink and good size for public skating. Price also really good. Highly recommended
Negative experience: It's terrible quality ice skates, for kids and girl it was OK, but guys got wounds in feet. Every thing else is OK, stuff friendly and make sure that people don't get injured..
Fantastic experience: Went in for an open ice skating session. Both boys thoroughly enjoyed the session. Hired a polar bear (£5.50). The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The elves watching over the session were on top of any falls and accidents. Overall, a good experience and we're sure to go back.. Did not go into the shop/cafe/gym/climbing area.
Positive experience: Continue to be Really impressed, we live in Watford and consider it worthwhile to keep making the journey. We tend to hit really quiet times so probably made a difference to our experience. Easy to find and park. Staff helpful and friendly, toilet facilities good.
Positive experience: A rink on a small footprint. Few good sightlines to watch ice hockey.
Fantastic experience: Great place, clean, great ice rink, kids love it
Fantastic experience: hi it's was very good and it's half price at every day at 3mp to 5mp. my kids love it thanks
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and nice location with easy parking. Visual communication for first time visitors could be better. Or maybe someone that could guide/instruct first timmers would also do it. Regardless they were friendly and helped when I made mistakes like using the paid lockers instead of going to the right place. Skying was fun and we will definetely be back.
Positive experience: New and modern facilities on the outskirts of Slough Town next to the Salt mine memorial. Staff at reception need perking up a little though
Positive experience: Based on their website it needs to be simplified. I cannot find their time table for general ice skating. I've tried so many times. I can view everything else. I know from previous experience though, that they are fairly priced. There's plenty of parking. The centre is always clean
Fantastic experience: Great night at Slough ice rink last night watching my team, Leeds Knights play Bees ice hockey team. The people (especially the volunteers) were so friendly. It's a nice clean rink, the coffee (and the lager) were delicious. Jack enjoyed the chuck a Puck and chuck a duck. Definitely one of my favourite away games.
