Negative experience: Very dirty gym never anyone cleaning the place from main pool area to thermal suit the showers are dirty the spa area is always overcrowded most of the rooms look old and need a full refurbishment the gym is over hyped and not worth what they charge

Fantastic experience: Recommend as a hotel for stay..Good staff and service and breakfast..rooms were nice. Swimming pool and Spa features were amazing

Mark Cameron 10 months ago

Positive experience: On the one hand the staff here are great. Always friendly and helpful. The hydrotherapy pool and swimming pool are good and the cafe sells nice ginger cake. On the other hand, the gym is spaced weirdly over several levels, making training disjointed. During busy times it feels very claustrophobic. The equipment is ok. Not sure it is worth the relatively high price of approx £60. I don't think it's worth being double the price of your average leisure centre.

Fantastic experience: A great place to stay, great setting away from all Hussle and busel of the City yet right on the doorstep, close for airport. Staff are always friendly and helpful and use of the gym whilst staying on business trip is a bonus too

Negative experience: Real shame! We'd heard wonderful things about the roast dinner. But unfortunately it didn't meet our expectations. Portions small, service poor. I'd raved about it to my brother as I'd heard such good things. And because of the poor service, unfortunately we won't be returning. And expensive too.

Positive experience: A strange gym that tries to cater for too many different styles of training and doesn't manage to do any of them particularly well. Weird building layout spread across multiple rooms/floors means there's understandable space restrictions, but then large areas are wasted on underutilised equipment, like the track for the huge weight sled. And I question whether enough people are using the recovery, boxing and biocircuit rooms to justify taking up so much space. Meanwhile at busy times the weight and cardio rooms are full of people waiting for the most fundamental equipment - machines, benches and treadmills. I get the impression that it's a gym that was designed by a salesperson, or someone trying to copy the facilities of the considerably larger chain gyms, rather than someone trying to work within the available space to cater to the needs of it's members effectively and efficiently. Other than the cable machines and maybe the lat pulldown machine (though all three of those are different), there's exactly one of each weight machine, so if it's busy and the thing you want to use is in use, or it's out of order, then you're out of luck. In many cases there aren't alternative machines to work the same muscle either, so you either have to wait or change your planned workout entirely. Equipment is getting tired. It's common to find worn out attachments and padding, loose handles, pins that don't go in without a bit of wiggling or force, and something is always out of order. A lot of it is Technogym gear which I personally don't hold in high regard from a design nor a durability stand point. I think the entire time I was a member, the only noticeable change was when a new set of plates turned up. A planned refurb has been mentioned by management, but I'd prefer to see smaller, continual refreshes and changes throughout the year, rather than waiting for big bang refurbs every few years, particularly as they usually come with considerable disruption. I was a member for nearly 2 years, so I did find the gym suitable for a time. In the end I no longer felt like I was getting value for money, and the high membership fee is justified by the club by the very wide range of facilities they offer, but no single person is reasonably making use of all of them. My new gym is a further 20 minute drive away and doesn't have a pool/spa, but I personally found those to be acceptable sacrifices for an infinitely better equipped gym. I think a lot of members put up with the cost and all the rubbish bits because there aren't really any other 24 hour gyms with spa and pool facilities anywhere else in Manchester, and the Didsbury area does struggle for decent gym facilities full stop.

Fantastic experience: Recently joined the gym. Excellent equipment and staff. Really looking forward to continuing my fitness journey here.

Fantastic experience: I can't praise the staff here highly enough. I arrived late last night after kitchen had closed and Isla from the reception desk made me toast! This morning the breakfast and coffee bar staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Wish I'd been able to stay longer. Thanks to everyone

Fantastic experience: I joined the gym and spa. I was shown round and made to feel welcome by a friendly gentleman called John, who was very informative and answered all my questions. I was taken a back by the size of the place. It's massive and has excellent facilities. I've never seen such an extensive gym, it has so much equipment over several floors. There is a very large swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms, hydrotherapy pool, recovery area. They also offer many keep fit classes. Excellent value for money. Thee best and biggest gym I've ever been to, I can't see any other leisure centre in the area competing with this place. Free gym inductions. All staff are welcoming and friendly.

Fantastic experience: Used the gym and leisure facilities while staying at the hotel. Really good range of equipment, classes and pool. The hydro centre was excellent to end with. Locals all said it’s great value too.

Angus Jellis 1 year ago

Positive experience: Trained here for just over a year. Facilities and equipment are fine for the most part, but it just gets too busy. This isn’t the fault of the management, but is more because of the lack of good gyms in the area in general (Nuffield is the only real competitor for anybody living in Didsbury).

Naz Ali 1 year ago

Positive experience: They pitch themselves as a high end gym but they're really not. The adjustment pin on most of the benches is broke. The showers are really low end and need renovating. The whole vibe of the gym isn't really for serious lifters. More so aimed at elderly people. I originally joined when it cost £50 a month on a corporate membership, then within a couple of months it increased to £55. Now I'm on £60 a month. The best part about the gym is it's 24 hours which is why I initially joined.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly and the pool has quiet times when you can enjoy a swim. Every member of staff are genuinely so friendly it made my 3 day visit one to remember. Had the Euro meal deal and it was excellent. Thank you I feel relaxed and I'll come back if I get the chance.

Negative experience: Sadly it has recently become an uncomfortable experience & very overcrowded in the gym. Several men complaining about this last few weekends. Also air conditioning not on last few occasions this last fortnight! Breeding ground for infection and not good members experience.

Positive experience: Very clean. Very well equipped. Helpful staff. Recommend above Nuffield down the road every time. Do not understand why anyone would go to Nuffield for the same price when Waterside is infinitely better.

Negative experience: The facilities at the establishment lack quality, are unhygienic, and cramped. Unfortunately, I contracted laryngitis from using their sauna and steam rooms. Subsequently, I decided to cancel my membership, which they accepted. Despite this, I was mistakenly billed afterward. In addition to substandard facilities, the staff exhibited incompetence. The process of closing my account, which should have been straightforward after my cancellation via email, proved to be a challenge for them.

Positive experience: Good range of gym and spa facilities, however there is lots of mould on the ceilings of the showers. Have raised this but unfortunately it’s still there and has been for some time.

Positive experience: I have recently joined this gym. The male changing rooms are horrendous. The 2 small changing rooms (in each corner) need to be cleaned. I have an image (which I won't post) of what seems to be fecal matter on the hinges of one of them. The smell of drainage is horrendous. Please, leave some air fresheners or anything scent related to take the foul smell out. Use bleach to clean the drains. It's repulsive. The air con is on full blast at all times and I just don't get why in winter you have the rooms so cold? It costs money and it's not energy efficient. Save that money and invest it in a team of cleaners. The level of hygiene is lower than your commercial budget gyms. The equipment are old and packed tightly next to eachother. The people who go to this gym are decent people, which gives the gym a pleasant atmosphere. Hygiene is very, very, very poor.

Veronica Brooks 1 year ago

Negative experience: Stayed here last year September. Definitely a Leisure Centre first and foremost. Hotel facilities extremely basic. The rooms are very small and we could not walk straight on around the bed and to slide through side ways. They also take a hefty deposit for breakages. There was no wardrobe and it was the weirdest thing where you hung your clothes. Definitely would not recommend if your looking to stay over. Dining is cafeteria style.

Shaun Reeksting 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Staff super friendly, welcoming and helpful. Good selection of equipment, and management responsive to suggestions. Hakim does a brilliant job in keeping the mens changing facilities spotless

Fantastic experience: This has been by far the best hotel experience I’ve received staying in a hotel. The service from the staff was just phenomenal, so friendly and really went out of their way to make the stay great, we thoroughly enjoyed all the facilities and the restaurant food was incredible! Breakfast was great also, really recommend, will 100% stay there again.

Idris Waldron 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: An amazing place with really good facilities the size of the gym left me speechless

Robert Smith 1 year ago

Negative experience: It's a leisure center first, hotel second, with cosy hotel ambience in communal areas sadly very lacking. Location was good, reception staff friendly. HOWEVER, we had the worst night sleep we've ever had in a hotel. We were kept awake by vermin scurrying about across the ceiling above us throughout the night. When reported we were informed they had a problem with "squirrels". Staff were understanding and we were told at reception that they would ask the manager to call us. A free breakfast on a day when we had a brunch booked out, was not good enough and the manager did not feel the need to follow up with the call that we were promised. Bottom line; rats/mice in the ceiling, beware room 307 and if you hear scurrying about in the ceiling, ask to be moved asap, as by night it will drive you crazy. Very disappointing.

Negative experience: Just recently cancelled my membership due to the sheer capacity of this place. Impossible to get on much and stood about waiting for things to use while people are sat there on equipment on phones etc. If u want a quiet gym then this isn't the place to go. Thermal spa is a nice place to be when again not full of people. For me this place needs to cap members or expand the place. Classes are good when they don't change the timetable without notice to the members so for example say you enjoyed a class on a certain day and time you have been attending. ( have to book early as they fill up) they just remove it for unknown reasons. If the gym was bigger and less claustrophobic and extremely busy then might join again but until then it's no go.

Muhammad Tabish Gondal 2 years ago

Negative experience: " This gym seriously needs to step up their game. The wait time to join was ridiculously long, and to make matters worse, no one bothered to attend to me. Talk about poor customer service! "

Fantastic experience: Went to stay for a night and the facilities were amazing but not as amazing as the staff. We were welcomed by Tyler at reception with excellent banter, 10/10 hospitality by Sarah Jane during breakfast and a pleasant checkout with Liv. All in all 10/10 stay would go again. Also the gym, pool and sauna was cracking 5/5

Raheem Daniels 2 years ago

Negative experience: Great gym and facilities, however the gym is now being run down due to thuggish members joining the gym, I have seen abuse and experienced it myself. The authorities need to manage whom they give memberships to and monitor behaviour. Or increase the prices to at least £100 so these thugs can’t join!! And it will clean up the mess! Lower prices brings more thugs and overpopulation!

Fantastic experience: My current and favourite place for relaxation as well as to keep fit and train, great facilities, awesome staff and nice members, slightly biased as they gave me my first job and has always held a special place in my heart since.

Negative experience: i signed a contract with waterside leisure club for full gym membership, The company (Harlands Group) that handles their direct debit couldn't take the debit amount yesterday and sent me an email with £25 admin fee on top of my payment. I said this is just not fair at all especially in these times. And they were like we can't do anything at all, this is what you have in when you signed a contract with waterside. Waterside never clearly told that there will be an admin fee of £25 if the payments are missed accidentally. stay away from these type of gyms that use harlands group as their direct debit handler.

Fantastic experience: Spend most days at the gym. Love it, amazing classes great facilities and in my opinion well worth the membership!

TCG Manny 3 years ago

Negative experience: Called to enquire if there was a guest gym pass I could buy, whoever took the call said “there’s nobody here from the gym at the minute mate” then immediately hung up. I didn’t even get a chance to reply

Chris 3 years ago

Positive experience: One of the best gyms in Manchester. Eight squat racks, which is unrivalled. Good amount of space, good cardio equipment too (Wattbikes). Reason it's not five is the changing rooms. Poor, small, bad choice of design (grey tiles). This really stops it from being a luxury club. As some people have said aswell, the Spa is like a debate club. People shouting and hollering. Need staff to check it often and tell people to shut it tbh.

Deylan 3 years ago

Negative experience: Greedy price changes and time cuts. Student pricing going up for 34 pounds to 40 pounds, with hours cut for no reason consdering the gym is 24 hours for some. Makes absolutely no sense that if I pay 20 pounds extra (to a full membership at 55) from my initial contract that I can get 24 hour access. Its ridiculous that I have to make a 6 month commitment which I cannot cancle my contract, yet they changed my hours from 24 access to not being allowed in at 10:30. Its a shame as I really really thought it was a great gym with good facilities, even getting my friends to buy memberships. Its sad, to see how waterside treat their student customer base. Really dissapointed, and I expected more the price that I use to pay, let alone the absurd prices they charge now. Stay clear and go to the village gym instead.

Dan Choudhary 3 years ago

Negative experience: Ridiculous policy changes Can not make sense of how they increase the price and then subsequently reduce the hours of the student membership. As a university student most of the day is spent on campus, not letting us use the facilities after 10 30 makes very little sense. Staff couldn’t help when I voiced this concern either, saying it was due to ‘security concerns.’ Again this makes no sense, because I can pay 15 quid extra a month and all of a sudden whatever ‘security concerns’ there were disappears. As a member of this gym, you feel like a data point in the computer system rather than an actual customer- which is not a good feeling. As a gym itself, it’s lacklustre. Some standard equipment missing, such as the famed ‘sus’ machine. The pool is standard and the spa whilst ambitious, has nothing on actual high end gyms like David Lloyds Waterside tries very hard to be luxury, but once you step inside the facade is lifted and you see what it is. A soulless cashgrab with very little loyalty towards its customers. The only somewhat redeeming quality is the gym staff themselves, who are quite friendly and happy to assist.

M Downey 3 years ago

Negative experience: NO FRILLS AND VERY RUN DOWN Stayed here with my partner recently the room was nothing like the picture on the website ,the room was tiny stuffed full of cheap worn furniture u cldnt even move in the room. The room cleaning service we had didn't even make ur bed, wash tea cups etc ,the shower cubicle was smelling of dampness and the tiles were grumby I had to clean myself .The pillows on the bed had seen better days rock hard the service in restaurant was useless ,spa facilities eg swimming and gym were over crowded someone told us the hotel had sold membership to much people so we nevered used that we won't be using this hotel again Save ur money n book a travel Inn for less money but more value for your money.

Josh Cairns 4 years ago

Negative experience: Really good gym with good facilities. Problem is post lockdown they have massively oversold memberships to the point you can’t get on anything 4-9pm, fairly disappointing.

Victoria Sheridan 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Not very crowded. Lots of sanitiser available and members are cleaning the machines after use. Great gym.

Amanda Curtis 4 years ago

Negative experience: Absolutely discussed by this company, I’m still waiting for my refund, I have been nagging for MY OWN MONEY FOR OVER A MONTH ,I keep on being told that it will be refunded . I took up membership with them but changed my mind because of a health issue with my lung procedure. I want my money as small as it is, it’s a lot for me

Alim Haider 4 years ago

Negative experience: Going down hill very fast due to its policy of not managing the members behaviour . Loud mouth yobs, criminals with electronic tag are now becoming the norm. The gym itself is fantastic . But more and more poorly behaved members intimidating other members and making others feel uncomfortable when in the gym. Not the sort of experience any one wants ,so I can only say I will be cancelling membership and looking at some where else if nothing is done.

Adam Khan 4 years ago

Positive experience: Good gym with decent parking, nice scenic location. I like the pool facilities such as the 25 meter swimming pool, Jacuzzis are the best in the business, as I have been a member of the more expensive clubs locally and their hot tubs are nowhere near as strong as the ones at this place. Steam and sauna are also decent. The price for this gym is also reasonable. Showers in the changing rooms could be better however.

Fantastic experience: I have never been part of a gym that is more customer focused than Waterside. No matter what member of staff I interact with, they instantly assist and help me with a smile. The transparency and up to date information we were given throughout the pandemic has been outstanding and even though I have moved 10 miles away from the area, I travel just that bit extra because I know I'll never find a better gym!!

Zohaib A. 4 years ago

Positive experience: Good facilities overall however the gym is really dated and also gets cramped. Equipment is good, however the gym needs a refurbishment in my opinion.

We would like thanks Grace for her amazing work. Natalino Spinaci

Parth M 5 years ago

Positive experience: One of the best Gyms in the area. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Excellent facilities - fully equipped gym, pool, spa, and activities. Cafe reasonably priced. Changing facilities are slightly under kept E.g hair dryer not working and shower area unclean. Some of the members really need to be educated on etiquettes of using a spa. Reasonable prices.

Noel Bryson 5 years ago

Positive experience: I was a member of the gym for several years. I finally stopped because of the hygiene standards of some of the pool/spa users e g. exiting the steam room and jumping straight into the hydro pool without showering - yuck! The final straw was seeing someone wearing up-front in the same pool. Waterside just try to get as many members as possible, riff-raff included, and make no effort to enforce any standards of behaviour.

Negative experience: *Be alarmed* Feel like I got scammed Signed up a relative (junior) so they could go gym with me in the evenings. I asked the member of staff (prior to signing junior up) if they're allowed at this time they said yes it's fine. I travelled half an hour all the way to get to the gym being told that I wasn't allowed to take him with me because they're a junior and started bringing out contracts stating they're not allowed. I was never told about any contracted times for juniors. Absolutely disgusted we been sent home. Never mentioned any contracted hours for the gym for juniors all they said when I signed (junior) up was; as long as you supervise them it is fine. Absolutely shocking. Very unhappy with the way the staff dealt with this. Appalling.

Negative experience: Actual hotel and gym it's ok but, the staff... omg not friendly at all. And the manager was rude half of my age teaching me your belongings in lockers are at your own risk. Very unprofessional

Michael Ayers 6 years ago

Negative experience: The spa was by far the best bit and the actual reason I booked the hotel. The spa and steam rooms etc were brilliant and very clean. However I booked a king size room and it’s safe to say it’s no bigger then a single room. I wouldn’t like to see what they class as a basic or double room. I got 6 coat hangers behind a mirror and never got a wardrobe or anything. The drinks aren’t cheap either, £22 for two gins was crazy. The lady was cleaning (hovering) and the bar area looked closed (10pm) then I asked if it was open, she then dropped the hover zipped off her coat and then said yeah what would you like, not quite the service I expected. But the room, seriously don’t book a king size you’re just wasting money if you think you’re getting luxury. We didn’t even get gowns, and considering it’s a spa hotel that baffles me. Also the bathroom was tiny. I’m giving 2 stars just for the spa and friendly receptionists.

Fantastic experience: It's lovely place. Really great water and spa areas. Gyms a bit dog eared but good.

Andy Bembridge 6 years ago

Positive experience: I've been going to the Waterside for a few years now and as gyms go it's pretty decent. They have a lot of equipment and it's all relatively new and in great condition. I go in the mornings so there is rarely a wait for anything - it does get busy in the evenings however as most gyms do. There are definately better gyms out in terms of equipment, cleanliness and atmosphere so I wouldn't rate as 5 stars.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic facilities and very friendly staff. Value for money with membership for the gym, swimming pool, steam room, sauna and hydro pool is the best in Manchester

Positive experience: Nice hotel. Quiet location off the main road but not far from shops restaurants etc. Good health club and pool. Room was very small but modern and clean. Breakfast was ok, it wasn’t buffet style it had to be ordered, the hot food anyway. We would stayed again.

Fantastic experience: Depends what you want as can't comment on hotel facilities but gym well equipped and pool good. Decent meals in bar area and staff friendly. Ok for watching football
