Positive experience: good but they don't do regular machine check and fixing!

Fantastic experience: Clean, well maintained equipment. Sauna and changing rooms. Classes included with your membership. Free parking. Busy at peak times, but open 24hrs so no issues finding time to train ‍♀️

Negative experience: Came to this Gym on a regular for one month, changing rooms, showers and toilets where an absolute state and Allways smelt foul, changing rooms would often have the smell of either weed or Vapes, the shower would smell like something had died in there, and had a man playing with himself at the urinal next to me, machines whilst there is a lot of them it is usually very busy so hard to get on them and equipment are regularly breaking or broken, but they are more than happy to take your money for the month an not give it back, for £25 you’d really hope for better from them, when contacting them to explain the reason to cancel their policy is all but helpful, would recommend you look at going to KAL, True Gym, The Gym Group or BigBox over here,

Negative experience: "30 days to cancel membership is a joke. It basically means that if you want to cancel, you'll still have to pay for the next month. Keep this in mind if you're not sure whether this place is right for you. The first month may be £10, but you'll still end up paying £25 for the second month."

Fantastic experience: Lovely swimming for my grandson

Positive experience: Decent size and a good selection of classes. I just wish there were more classes on weekday lunchtimes which is when I'm mainly available.

Positive experience: Good gym with alot of machines, weights and a boxing area. Also have male and female saunas which are separate. Only downside is it's always busy as there is no on or off peak.

Negative experience: Staff are really friendly and helpful. That aside this is the worst gym I’ve ever been to. The local Wetherspoons toilet will provide you with a better hygiene experience than the men’s changing rooms here. Staff are constantly cleaning it to be fair but most of the members fitness needs would be better served in a zoo because they lack the intelligence and the manners to replace weights, piss into the actual bowl/urinal instead of on the floor around it and everyone is too busy flexing in the mirror and taking selfies to actually get a decent workout. This gym is the reason Thanos clicked his fingers.. Sub par equipment in average condition. Not enough leg machines. Way too busy. Way too many knob heads.

Positive experience: The gym is a good size. Half of the bikes in spin studio don't work though and it's a very popular class. Also the air conditioning concerns me as it can rarely be felt. I dont think they have it at all in the main gym and it's dodgy in spin studio- borderline dangerous

Positive experience: Good equipment and classes but… I’ve been to the gym at various different times through day and the fact the air con isn’t working properly in the main gym area is not ok especially for this time of year. Considering how much people pay to use the gym, you would think they make enough money to maintain something as essential as aircon in the gym! Disappointing!!

Negative experience: way too busy now, almost impossible to do a full workout without wasting one or two more hours waiting in between machines

Negative experience: Old equipment, worn out pads on the bicep curl machine and many others, no rubbers on many of the bars, stiff cable on many machines. Not impressed with the equipment. Im surprised management isn't getting this stuff sorted with the amount they charge people.

Negative experience: Came in with a day pass none of the staff told me anything about signing my car in with the tablet as I was a new member, 2 weeks later a parking ticket comes through the letterbox.

Fantastic experience: Great Gym went on a free day pass, all machines and free weights available also classes were in action when I arrived .

Positive experience: The equipment is a bit old, but the maintenance is good and overall a good atmosphere to train.

Negative experience: Received a ticket for parking too long. I was told to email the gym, I did so twice explaining why, with no response and was totally ignored. Disappointed. Seen another similar review to mine. They give the same response for everyone.

Fantastic experience: A 24 hour gym with plenty of equipment from free weights, weight machines and plenty of cardio equipment too. The only issue is it can get pretty busy at peak times but that's every gym. Spacious changing room, sauna and plenty of showers. Vending machines with padlocks, towels, protein etc...

Negative experience: Since it impossible to someone to see you when you're actually there (in normal hours) and changing rooms/sauna are not available at all time (for security reasons apparently) I'm not going to be using this gym.

Positive experience: Decent gym just a bit crammed in, on top of one another using equipment

Negative experience: Too many thefts happening and nothing being done about it!

Negative experience: In general, the gym is large and relatively clean. More and more often, machines are broken and you have to wait several weeks for repairs. If there are classes taking place, you cannot enter the classroom and use the equipment from the classroom. I have an exercise program on my phone but I can't do it because there are no dumbbells with small loads in the main cross fit room. I need several different weights with low loads to perform body pump training, and the gym has barbells from 10 kg upwards. I can't go to class because I work during these hours. no paper towels. I have my own towel, but to wipe the sweat from my forehead, not to clean someone's machine. I'm disappointed. As soon as they open another relatively cheap gym nearby, a lot of people will leave.

Fantastic experience: Great gym. Only signed up recently but I love it. Loads and loads of equioment and machinery. Only went to one class so far which wasnt a very demanding class but I will try others and see if they will live up to my old gyms classes. If not, can still do higher intensity workouts on my own

Negative experience: The gym it’s okay but it’s really hard to cancel and if you cancel they will still money from you

Fantastic experience: Really enjoy coming to the Huddersfield jd gym it’s really big and got so much equipment. It’s a bargain for £25 a month + you can use any around the uk if you are working away It makes sense

Fantastic experience: Best gym in hudds and there is loads of competition, maloneys gym is great but hours of opening don't always suit, jd is 24 got everything u need , good vibe and the woman who runs it, dunno her name but I've seen her helping and advising people on many occasions either with parking issues or on using equipment

Negative experience: You need to install cleaning stations it's basic hygiene and nothing to do with Covid being over!

Negative experience: I used to love this gym till i got a ticket £155 for parking in their gym bay, even though i was already a member and now if I don’t pay they will take me to court. The gym have not done anything to help me with this even though there is evidence I was a member of this gym and always made sure I clocked in. I have changed gyms now for the better.

Negative experience: Juice heads hog the weights.

Negative experience: Tried to sign up for 3 days while I was working away, website crashed as I tried to sign up. Before even taking all my details, it took the payment out of my account but never sent confirmation so I never got the chance to access the gym. I tried to call multiple times to see if I could get help. Never got through, so I emailed, and was responded to with a link to cancel my membership, which will be reviewed in 14 days. What a joke

Negative experience: Absolute trash place, not worth the money, broken machines and personal property gets stolen from lockers.

Fantastic experience: Decent timetable good gym

Negative experience: I wish to echo the sentiments of the previous reviewer, Chris Smith, 100% in that the equipment is getting worse and neglected..the pins for the cable machines seems to be an ongoing issue! There’s now a NEW problem with this gym in that they are now focusing on cutting corners with a view to saving money in the short-term in that the blue paper tissues previously provided for wiping down equipment and wiping perspiration have quietly been pulled with the antiseptic sprays located to one station near the front desk??? If you mention this to a member of staff, they bring a tissue roll not too dissimilar to a toilet paper roll??? Not sure if senior directors at JD aware that COVID has not gone away albeit media reporting has ceased. Should any new variant outbreak occur then this gym will be the perfect vehicle to spread it to its bulging member numbers. An ever growing army of current longstanding members are all happy to leave if things don’t change and prepared to pay extra should a decent upmarket gym spring-up in the local area in the near future.

Positive experience: Lots of equipment & very reasonable space.

Negative experience: Starting to get really overcrowded, with people trying to intimidate others often. There's getting to be a few groups of people looking for trouble, not all of which are steroid fuelled ragers, although there are quite a few of those too. Was a really good gym but going downhill now, was barely any decent leg machines to begin with, now with people breaking them constantly there's even less. Leg press has been literally gone for weeks now, replaced with a weird squat stand thing you could probably buy for £50 on amazon, and the other leg press was broken in the same period, leaving not a lot of options. Always a weird smell in the men's changing room which I think is the drainage since they keep ripping up the floor in there. Only 1 drinking water tap works (think they've abandoned the possibility of fixing it). It's a shame since there's a lot of nice people in there and most of the staff are great too. Most likely going to be switching gyms to a smaller more expensive one, JD used to be really great value and I used to love going, but as it stands I'm struggling to train properly in the state that it's in and just find myself getting more and more frustrated and annoyed while training there

Negative experience: CONSIDER IT 0 STARS It’s been a week that i am calling, sending emails and i even went in the gym from dewsbury to Huddersfield (40 mns drive) BUT NO ANSWERS. No call answers as the voicemail goes on 24/7 , no email answers and when i went there, there was a trainer who said was alone and doesn’t understand much! He even gave me a wrong number to call for inquiry everytime i call that number it hangs up itself neither one ring goes. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!!! MY INQUIRY IS THAT I JOINED THE GYM (BY MISTAKE) ON THE 5th OF JUNE WANTED TO CANCEL BUT THEY ASK FOR A MEMBERSHIP NUMBER WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED BUT PAYMENT WAS DONE!!!!!!!!!! I NEED A REPLY!!

Negative experience: The gym has all the same equipment you expect from any other jd gym, it's usually pretty clean inside though it's usually untidy as people don't put their weights back after use. Though this isn't anything unfamiliar with any gym you would go to. The reason behind the one star review is the gym, just keeps getting worse every time you visit it. Its been a couple of weeks now and they're desperately short of pins for the cable machines. There's about 8 or so missing and has been for a period of time. Today I went in and people are carrying around their pins just so they can complete their workouts and they can't really be blamed for it. A quick look on amazon will show you can replace a pin for 10 pound with next day delivery, so why has this been dragged out over a couple of weeks? The gym must have a couple of thousand members at 20 pound+ a month and that problem could be eradicated for under 100 pounds. With a couple there as spares. Surely a gym of this scale should have a stock of them ready to replace them when they go missing. The same problem regularly occurs with the carabiners. Many are broke or missing, this just means you can't use half of the equipment that they have and again the problem can be solved by next day delivery. The machine repair times is also longer than it needs to be. Just ask anyone who's waited weeks for the hip thrust machine to be fixed and there's still no sign of that being sorted. Honestly I wouldn't go back if it wasn't for my PT working here, as a customer I can't help but feel now they have my membership money they couldn't care less about providing a decent experience whilst you're there, they've got all they want and they spend the bare minimum on ensuring the gym is adequately maintained. I look forward to seeing the response from management telling me they've ordered the pins like everyone else has had, 2 weeks just isn't acceptable!

Positive experience: I have a dual club membership, but i must say out of all the ones i use Huddersfield is by far the worst! There are never any pins in the machines, was in there yesterday amd although some had new attached pins i went to 5 different machines and not one had a pin in this had been going on for months. Its also over crowded and full of students who train in groups of 4-6 and hog the machines i did half my workout yesterday and ended up leaving as id had enough of waiting. The disadvantages of having uni students close by! The machines are well worn and much of the leather covering the pads are damaged and torn.

Positive experience: Definitely one of the better gyms i've been to for the price. Good vibe and staff are friendly and helpful. Only reason i've given 4 stars is because for some reason on pretty much every machine that needs it there is never any of the stick things (god knows what they are called) that you stick in to change weight otherwise really good.

Negative experience: No staff available to help with technical issue entering the gym. No one answering phone to help with technical issue entering gym. Over crowded and not really ideal atmosphere to train. Long waits for using equipment.

Positive experience: I love this gym and the staff are so friendly and always at hand. Unfortunately what let's it down is when the machines break down it takes weeks to get fixed. Also there's pegs missing from where you select the weight. Lastly when you get changed in the changing rooms it takes an age to find a locker as people choose not to put a padlock on, so you have to open like 20 lockers before you find an empty one. Should make it mandatory to have a padlock on. Other than that it's a great gym with happy gym goers. Hope it sorts itself out.....

Positive experience: Excellent facilities with helpful staff - SEE UPDATE The equipment is modern and maintained regularly. Anything that needs replacing is done as often as needed - for example bench covering was worn and replaced when reported. Easy to get in/out using the JD Gyms app, good sound system and plenty of room for workouts. There is a separate room for spin classes and another good-sized room for other classes as well as the main gym area. The changing rooms are tidy, modern, and clean. The showers are also well maintained and there are saunas in the separate men's and women's changing rooms. The sauna is available until 10pm. The gym in Huddersfield is now open 24/7. UPDATE 22/05/23 As one of the other reviewers has highlighted, the gym has deteriorated in recent weeks. Points to note: - There remain weights machines with pins missing which makes trying to complete a workout really difficult as you go around the gym hunting for a replacement pin. - Some of the cabled machines are also at a point where they need to be fixed properly or replaced e.g. one cabled Lat pull-down machine "sticks" which affects your workout - these machines need to be smooth operating and simply applying lubrication won't fix it. - Cabled Fly machines have weight labels worn off, it wouldn't be difficult to glue on some replacement labels. - Cabled fly machine nearest the entrance has a pully/weight that sticks. This one used to be the smoothest machine to use but since the cable was replaced it has now developed a fault. - A number of weight machines are missing the top-weight pin as people appear to have taken them off, I presume when searching for replacement pins, not realising these pins don't come out, only the heads do. These all need replacing. - Several cabled weight machines have rubber grips that are worn/split or grips that are loose. - At peak times, the gym can be horrendously busy i.e. people queueing to use a piece of equipment. There are not enough squat racks, cabled leg extension/curl machines. A bit of investment needed by JD Gyms to perhaps install a mezzanine floor and transfer cardio machines to another floor, to provide more room for additional racks/weight machines (there looks to be enough height in the building)... - A lot of the time you end up having to hunt around for weights as some people are too lazy to put weights back on the racks after they've used them. Would be good if staff could do a sweep-up at peak periods to ensure unused weights are put back. I've been at this gym for over a year, and it's got to the point where I am considering other gym options. It's really disappointing that it's got to this stage, particularly as the staff here are great.

Fantastic experience: Thought I would take up the offer of valentines promo. On arrival I was helped and shown facilities and then a free for all. Plenty of machines to choose from. When gym floor began to resemble school/college environment i retreated into the studio and took part in a class which I really enjoyed and felt muscle pain not long after. I found the changing rooms be clean and tidy and sauna was nice addition to my hours spent. Would consider membership with what is on offer at JD.
