Negative experience: Unhappy as phoned asking for a tour of the gym and guest pass before potentially signing up which I was more than happy to pay for but they don’t do -probably the only gym that doesn’t do this

Negative experience: Is the kitchen ever open? Never had an honour to order any food in this establishment as a member because the kitchen is always closed on the hours when it’s supposed to be open. Is it normal? Update: finally had a chance to try the food and it was okay. Please invest in a good coffee machine. The coffee is undrinkable.

Positive experience: Great facilities and SUPERB instructors. Just a shame that there isn’t a working microphone in any of the studios - health and safety issue and decreases enjoyment of what would otherwise be a fabulous class environment.

Positive experience: It’s the best gym in Cambridge but it’s also the most expensive gym and far away expensive from others. It could have five star, spa area is great, a lot of group trains, the gym is nice. But it does not match the level. It’s crowded and sometimes not very clean after people flow. And the BIGGEST PROBLEM is the restaurant. I ordered an avocado smash, was waiting for 50 minutes and cancelled the order. Next time I ordered a sandwich and was waiting for hour!!! Pretty simple sandwich. And got it only after asking where’s my order. Both time the restaurant wasn’t crowded. I don’t know how it’s possible to work such slow. So the restaurant is absolutely useless and annoying, especially if you appreciate your time. upd: Another small things that I can suggest, it's increasing the temperature in the outside sauna, there may be 8-10 people in the indoor hottest sauna and one or empty outdoor. I was discussing with people and it's because outdoor isn't hot enough, not because it's outdoor. I believe creating 2 hot sauna could spread the people, and make the load more balanced. You can check the popularity of the hottest indoor finish sauna and outdoor one.

Negative experience: The spa is lovely but the customer service at Cambridge is abysmal. I pay £338 per month for memberships for myself and my 4 year old child along with child swimming lessons. Recently the swim teacher noshowed to the class and I was told I'd be refunded for that class. I have emailed at least 3 times about this refund and never had a reply. Today I have had a £41.25 payment deducted from my account with no explanation of what the deduction is for. The figure is the same as the swimming lessons but I have already paid for the swimming lessons within the £338 direct debit each month. I have messaged through the app but no doubt I will not get a reply. So for November 2024 I have paid £379 for one adult and one 4 year old's membership with weekly swimming lessons. The DL business model probably says not to reply to membership queries in the hope that the member will either not notice or eventually forget about the erroneous payments. David Lloyd Spa Retreats are lovely if you can visit enough to justify the price but IMO it's for people who have plenty of money so wouldn't notice the random deductions coming out of their bank accounts. Also, if you're the type of person who expects a reply to an email/message via the app this gym is not for you. The 'Club Support' phone number which is on the DL headed paper says 'number not recognised' presumably because DL do not offer 'Club Support' for its members. To the DL team who monitor these reviews, if you want to reply to me directly please refer to your messages sent via the app and by email. You will find me in the pile of unanswered membership queries. EDIT: After writing this review, within 20 mins someone from the DL team emailed me to refund the £41.25 that was taken incorrectly. Today, 1 week later I've had an email from DL saying my account is overdue by £41.25. See photo. I have of course replied directly to that email ( [email protected] ) to let them know no payments are outstanding and our memberships expire soon so there's no further payments due to DL - only updating here as it seems this is the only way to get DL to reply to emails.

Negative experience: I recently reached out to David Lloyd Cambridge via two emails on October 9th (Reference No: 2145287 & followed up a week later Reference No: 2169925) inquiring about visiting the club. Unfortunately, both emails were ignored. I find this lack of communication quite discourteous. A short response, regardless of the answer, would have created a much better first impression. As a result, I have lost interest in visiting the club.

Fantastic experience: I visited David Lloyd Cambridge for the first time today as I happened to be nearby to the club doing an errand for a family member (I’m a member of another DL club). Really did approach the club with no expectations but had 3 hours to spare so packed my bathing suit. As soon as I walked through the door somebody immediately sensed I looked a bit lost and kindly asked if they could help. From this moment on I felt really cared for, was quickly checked in to use the spa facilities. And given a quick but effective tour. The building is super impressive. Particularly love how the tennis courts feel part of the cafe. It reminds you that it is first and foremost a sports club. Headed for the spa and all I can say is wow!!! It was a gloriously sunny day today, so the outdoor jacuzzi was just divine and I probably could have stayed out there relaxing all morning. All the different health/steam rooms were fabulous. I enjoyed a lovely foot spa and the indoor jacuzzi was also something else. I easily could have fallen asleep in a swinging pod in the quiet area. All lush. Every member of staff was exceptional and I hope to be back very soon!!!! A step above!! Came away feeling super relaxed. So a huge thank you.

Fantastic experience: The facilities at the Cambridge club are amazing. The tour which we had with Jenny from the sales team was amazing. She was very friendly and welcoming, showed us all the facilities and explained the membership options available. Following signing up she has kept in contact to ensure that we are settling in well which is a lovely added touch. The spa facilities are phenomenal with the wide variety and different spaces available it is a relaxing way to start the day or wind down after a busy day.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I are memebers and we think David Lloyd has the most amazing facilities and spa, one of the best we have been to. But one of the things about Cambridge DL is the friendly staff that smile when you arrive and go the extra mile to ensure your visit is a fantastic one, every time. In particular we love it when Li is on reception because she makes you feel very welcome, has a friendly banter and has you smiling before you even get to the gym, class or spa. Thank you to all the friendly team at David Lloyd :-) It might be more expensive than your average gym, but we believe that it is worth every penny!!!

Fantastic experience: Would not hesitate to come back. We did a day pass using the gym and spa. Both were like nothing I have ever experienced before. Unbelievable in every good way possible. Stayed for food. Harley was a brilliant host making sure all my partners food was gluten free. We will be back!!!

Fantastic experience: We visited using the gym and spa as a day treat. What an experience Love every second from using the gym and tennis to an outdoor swim and sauna through to the LUXURY indoor spa. The food is also lovely and reasonably priced and the staff are lovely. I could not recommend it more.

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting customer service! I have joined this club twice as I have had to leave the country for my job in aviation. The first time I left, I paid a full 3 months membership (notice period) because they told me that was in the contract. Fine... When I rejoined, I was told that I should have informed them that I had to move away and there would have been no notice period charge. Great!... Soon after my second membership (3 months) I was posted overseas again and I informed the club straight away. I also provided a letter of appointment showing the details. I continued receiving bills which I replied to that I had left but the club just ignored all communications. I have now received a letter from the debt collectors. ARC. Lovely bunch! It would seem David Lloyds makes more money out of not providing a service than actually giving you what you paid for. The club is way over subscribed as it is. It's not all about the money but the fact that I have had to do this TWICE and I shouldn't have. I would rather run outside in the rain and lift rocks at the bottom of the garden that ever be associated with these money grabbers again. Go somewhere else and at least get what you pay for. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- In reply to the response from David Lloyd. Why does it take something like this to get your attention?? I have now received confirmation that my account and that of my children is now closed without cost. When we do return, I can 100% guarantee that we will never use your club again and I will never recommend it to anyone. You may think that our 3 diamond memberships are not important but I am aware of two other ex members in the same position. Shameful. . . . .

Negative experience: Today I had an incident with a girl named Amanda, the girl complained in an emotional form that I did not put the weight in its place, she was very negative and spoke to me in a raised voice, my boyfriend even had to stand up for me, Amanda did not calm down even after she talked to us, she walked around us and screamed. I felt very insulted by Amanda, because I come to the gym as a place where I can relax after a long day at work, and now I feel tense and negative, I do not understand why the gym worker talks to us so rudely.
Positive experience: We played a county tennis match against Cambridgeshire here on a Wednesday afternoon and this David Lloyd club was so busy. Difficult finding a parking space. What must it be like at 6pm? Carpet and acrylic indoor courts with upgraded led lighting - excellent. The changing rooms were very classy but too crowded. We had a selection of food from the restaurant which was very good. In summary. A very nice David Lloyd club with great facilities but it seems to be over subscribed.

Positive experience: I have recently joined DL, and generally happy with the facilities, staff and cleanliness of the club. You do get a lot for your pennies if used enough. A few niggles that I thought would be included in membership, especially as a diamond member. The reason that I opted for the diamond membership was to access the Blaze workouts (which are great) however there are additional costs if you want to get the most out of the classes (myzone switch and gloves). The membership includes spa access but then you either have to take your phone in with you or purchase a band that swipes you in. Also the guest passes that you get once a month doesn’t include the spa access (additional £40) which seems silly if you want to bring friends or family to experience the club. I did also think that shampoo/conditioner would be provided within the showers. Other boutique gyms offer this and it’s such a nice touch especially at the cost of the membership. On the whole I am very happy with DL Cambridge. The classes and gym facilities have be fab so far. Just a few small things that would have given it 5stars.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a DL member since February. Initially just using machines, swim, and spa facilities. But it is only after I joined classes that I felt a big difference in my fitness level and the look I was aiming for. A big shout out to Jay, Cari, and Aijan for the professional approach and energy they put into each class to make us fitter, healthier, and happier. My all time favourite is Dance fitness after which my big smile stays for the rest of the day! Also a huge thank you to the staff who cater and clean after so many people with different wants and needs!

Fantastic experience: Leaving a rather unconventional review for one of the staff members. I had a rather unfortunate encounter with a pothole the other day which gave me a flat tyre which I only noticed when I got back to the car after my morning swim. I was a bit frantic but Josh came to my aid and spent a considerable amount of time on changing my tyre for me. He went way beyond the call of duty on this task. I could not have done without his help. He was meticulous and put much care and attention into the task! I couldn’t have been more grateful for the help and support! A classic damsel in distress moment which he navigated beautifully! Thank you Josh!!

Negative experience: Good facilityies but service... Extremely disappointed with their delayed refund process back on last December, still waiting with numerous attampts (emails, phoncalls and mail), thought promised to solve it asap on the phone but no reaction after they put the phone down.
Negative experience: They need to stop the guest passes. The gym is way too crowded by the oddest people and it’s so stressful. Found discarded pads in the changing rooms, people on their phones in the sauna. Its too much. Not renewing my membership.

Negative experience: Extremely unprofessional place!!! I did a cover for a class they needed in beginning of May, they had all my details and now it's almost end of July and they still haven't pay me!! I chased it many times and the only answers I was hearing was "I'm sorry we're going to look at it and try our best to get your money soon". GUESS WHO'S STILL WAITING FOR THAT "SOON"

Positive experience: Reviewing based on cost vs service. Good facilities, friendly staff but the Clubroom kitchen is awful. Always 45 mins plus for beans on toast even when it's dead. I am not sure on the system but for somewhere you can't bring your own food in, the system needs improving

Negative experience: apparently I have to pay £40 extra for sauna even though I’m on the max available membership level (in Germany), where I have all areas/saunas included. they wanted to charge me and never told that several saunas were out of service. glad I have not paid and never visited

Fantastic experience: Great gym, spa area and tennis courts, love the indoor and outdoor pools as well, can get busy but have always been able to get a lane. Massive shout out to my PT Cregg Friday, I have never used a personal trainer before and have had a lot of injuries to my knees, Cregg has been fantastic, helping me to build up strength and rehabilitate, with his help I feel 10 years younger - highly recommend!!

Fantastic experience: **Ode to Lisa Hawksford: The BodyPump Maestro** In Lisa's class, the tempo’s always right, With technique tips that make each move take flight. She cracks a joke, my concentration’s blown, BodyPump's more fun, the challenge's grown. From squats to lunges, biceps to back, She guides us through each rigorous track. Disapproving glance when my heels take flight, Her watchful eyes ensure we do it right. On special days, we don our fancy dress, Halloween’s a blast, I must confess. Her classes, always packed, a real hot spot, Great music, laughs, they hit the perfect spot. Warm-up, squats, chest, and back we tackle, Triceps, biceps, her jokes make us cackle. Lunges next, then shoulders feel the burn, “What’s better than three repeats?” Seven, we learn! Twice a week, I join this merry crew, For BodyPump with Lisa, I’m loyal, it’s true. So here’s a cheer for Lisa, strong and bold, In her class, fitness and fun unfold.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member here since the gym opened, but have never seen it as busy and vibrant as it is now. I recently started personal training with Cregg Friday as I need to prepare for a 5 day mountain hike later in the year. Cregg has been an inspiration and my fitness and wellbeing has been transformed. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Visited the Cambridge David Lloyd this afternoon. A blissful swim in the outdoor pool. The sun even came out! Followed by a very relaxing and restorative session in the spa. Decided to stay for food and coffee, which was delicious and filling. I’ll be back.

Negative experience: An absolute disgrace of a company. Money grabbing with a borderline scam of a membership policy. My family has been a member of here for best part of a decade, spending thousands in fees but due to ill health we can no longer attend. DLs said i need to give 3 months notice, despite not having signed any paperwork for nearly a decade, unless i can provide a doctors letter. Phoned the doctors and was rightly told that the NHS does not have the time or resources to provide ltters to satisfy a gym. The doctor said prescriptions should suffice. These were forwarded to DLs who ignored them. Now get a snotty letter from some parasite solicitors taking the matter further. Cannot believe that a company like David Lloyd would treat a customer like this, let alone a customer of nearly ten years. Now taking the matter further to national media to highlight how they are happy to waste the time of the NHS and the absolute disgraceful treatment of a loyal customer. Edit - to be fair to DLs, they got in touch today and resolved the matter amicably. Much appreciated

Fantastic experience: Love the facilities and all the class options, there is always something interesting and challenging to do. Specific shout out to Matt on the group cycles and Cregg with the family workout, both are great instructors who make the classes really enjoyable. The spa facilities are amazing as well, really enjoy all the options. My only recommendation would be that there be a larger or additional cold plunge (outside one perhaps?) as it can be quite hard to get into at times since it is very popular.

Fantastic experience: Hi, I just wanted to say that I love this place! It is excellent value for money, it has a wide range of things to do, physical & social, and it has a real cozy family feel to it. The staff in general are always helpful, but I have to say, Izzy on reception is particularly warm & welcoming and a great new asset to the club! She's the "face" of everything the club represents! Always smiling and friendly and fun, Izzy knows her stuff, gets along with everyone, and discretely makes herself available if you need help with anything or have a query. She has that rare ability to get the balance right between a professional and personable approach. What a gem!

Fantastic experience: Cregg Friday is a wonderful personal trainer. I started in the gym recently and had a couple of sessions with him. His knowledge of fitness, including training and diet is incredible. He gives well rounded personalised training plans, focusing on technique rather than anything else to build muscle and reduce fat. He keeps you motivated across your workouts and is genuinely one of the best trainers I’ve had!

Negative experience: Really surprising experience today. Been a member of DL for 7 years. I’m a platinum member at Emerson’s green in Bristol and it’s has really plush facilities and the membership gives access all areas. We often do long journeys driving with the kids and have recently been stopping at clubs to chill out. Heston, for example is fantastic and has properly amazing spa facilities with really friendly staff. Here however, there was trying to get in the spa with my platinum membership and got taken to task because I didn’t have flip flops on and was told that my membership wasn’t adequate to access the spa. I was told I could pay extra to access. £20/entry apparently. Astonishing, as I’d say of all the different clubs I’ve been to; it’s tired at best and a rip off at worst. Could’ve been handled much better, but as other reviews suggest, customer service doesn’t appear to be top priority.

Fantastic experience: Last Wednesday and Thursday myself and 3 friends paid a visit to David Lloyd Cambridge to say we had an amazing time would be an understatement we stayed at the holiday inn next door to David Lloyd Spa and leisure resort .we would like to say a big thank you to all the fabulous staff who made us feel so special . .The reception staff were so pleasant and helpful we were served by the gorgeous Ollie who served us lunch and even booked a table for us that evening at a pub in Cambridge ,we visited the spa and was greeted by Moria who could not do enough for us . Fantastic experience: Great gym and facilities, Elliot West is very knowledgeable and is always eager to go the extra mile to make sure my visit is flawless. I understand your desire for more class options to accommodate everyone who wants to participate. Expressing your interest in additional class options, perhaps at different times or on different days, to the to the group fitness coordinator as they often take member feedback into consideration when planning any timetable changes. Hopefully, they can accommodate your request for another class option soon!

Fantastic experience: Brilliantly motivating Aqua classes with instructor Jay Banks. The exercises, often with water resistant equipment, are designed for all adult ages / abilities and are delivered with great encouragement and enthusiasm.

Fantastic experience: I attend Jay Banks classes several times a week, and they're fantastic. You come away feeling like you have had a proper workout. The water resistance exercises are so much kinder to my joints compared to a regular exercise class, but I don't feel as if I've compromised and done less. Aqua boot camp is my favourite. Jay does a great job of mixing the class up with an initial warm-up followed by exercising using different equipment.

Positive experience: Been going to Jay’s class for years. It’s great fun with a good mix of music for all tastes. He gets five stars. All the classes are good tbh. Massive negative is the state of the outside pool. Chipped and dirty looking tiles and edges with miserable surrounding patio. Have to pay for overpriced sauna for better outdoor patio and a sauna or steam. Come on David Lloyd- you can do better!

Positive experience: I have been a member since the club opened. The classes I attend are brilliant and the instructors especially Cari and Lisa are superb. The staff on Reception are also cheerful and welcoming. There is, however, some way for the club to go to live up to its 'premier' status. The toilets (of which there are only 4 in the ladies changing room) are frequently blocked and the shower cubicles have mould in them, so some form of more regular checking would be helpful. When it rains heavily the roof leaks all over the place but the studio is often overlooked and the wooden sprung floor is being spoilt by the water. Again some form of checking everything is ok (including the stereo system is working)each day would be good. Lastly, trying to get a response by email from anyone at the club is virtually impossible- you get an automatic reply saying that someone will be in touch and they never do, so this definitely needs improving! I hope that the team will read this and respond. I love the club and just a few tweaks could make it that much better!

Negative experience: Went today using my parents guest passes they’re both on full membership with spa, so spending a good £300/ month between them on their memberships. Only upon arrival was told they can’t be used until after 3pm on weekends which we didn’t know about. Girl on reception was very unfriendly and rude about it. Also didn’t tell us we need a password to get out the car park so had to go back in for that and the other girl just pointed at the wall. We were so excited to go and try out the gym as prospective members but felt everyone was very snobby and rude in there, has completely deflated us and put us off and ruined our day.
Fantastic experience: Been a member here for many years, great facilities and fantastic staff. James from the membership office is always helpful and answers my questions when needed, wouldn't change gyms for anyone.

Positive experience: I did the class of Laura de León I am not a regular yoga practitioner but with her step by step guidance I can easily follow and flow with the class. She is a great instructor. I highly recommend her classes.

Fantastic experience: Jo Hopkins gives such a personal and uplifting training session every time. Doesn’t matter my mood - if I come in having a terrible day, she gives me an outlet and leaves me drenched and too exhausted to worry about anything else. She shows me that even if I think I can’t get it done, she pushes me through. I love every session with her!

Negative experience: I rang to see if members from another club were allowed to visit the pool and spa at David Lloyd Cambridge. Was advised there is an £80 fee to use the spa, although gym and pool is free. Very unfair that when I joined 7 years ago part of the selling point was the benefit of being to use other David lloyd clubs all over the world except a very few in London. Now they are building new clubs they are excluding members from other clubs from visiting. I feel I've been deceived.

Fantastic experience: I've been a David Lloyd club member for about a month. I've particularly enjoyed my introductory PT sessions with Aimee. She really took the time to listen to my fitness concerns and goals and tailored our sessions to address these. Aimee is super friendly and makes me feel completely at ease during our sessions and has given me some great advice!

Negative experience: Nigh impossible to book an indoor tennis court, and outdoor bubble still not up in late January. For many years now, the leaky roof over the entire facilities, including tennis courts and newly refurbished gym, has guaranteed plenty of fall hazards on rainy days. Club management is aware but states that roof repairs can't be carried out. I worry it will take a seriously injured member to justify fixing this. Club has no competition around Cambridge, so complaints are treated accordingly.....shame as it really would not take that much to make this a 4*+ review
Fantastic experience: An amazing place. Always greeted with a friendly smile by Li who knows everyone by name and makes you feel like an old friend. Chris has taught my little boy to swim so brilliantly - he’s now four and swimming laps of a 25metre pool after being a Covid baby who was terrified of water. Molly in the spa is always friendly and happy and Tess the lifeguard makes every parent feel reassured that their children are being watched over brilliantly in the pool. An amazing place that I’m lucky to have!

Fantastic experience: Amanda at the Cambridge branch goes above and beyond her role, she’s even taken my youngest to the car for me. She gives me the best smiles and is so friendly and helpful, I look forward to our interactions. David Lloyd as a company is a complete mess, they don’t care if you’re happy with the how extremely expensive it is. I asked customer service why the fees have gone up beyond inflation and the response I got was - we can terminate your contract if you aren’t happy with this. I hate the company, but love the staff at David Lloyd.

Fantastic experience: Although I had some issues with some of the team members and the cold plunge not working often enough when I first joined last April, I still want to highlight that most of the team members and Mia with a massage were excellent. However, I won't renew my membership for various reasons, including not feeling valued as a valuable customer from some of the team members. Nonetheless, I'm giving these five stars as a token of appreciation for the team's effort. Thank you.

Negative experience: The facilities are good but it is over-subscribed. I've been three times and each time something was off. When signing up the wifi signal was ropey so I was not signed up properly. Another day there was a one hour wait for hot food in the cafe and today I was unable to park causing me to be late for a class (which started late and not in the location shown). Most of the staff are really nice but when I was really stressed one member was very condescending (Madam). Not the service you need for > £250 a month, even if it is January. I have decided to use the 14 day cooling off period so there will be a little less strain on the car park, cafe and wifi. Join if you have time to waste.

Fantastic experience: Being a little Christmas Turnip, I felt I needed to turn this round vegetable into more of a delicious pear. So I set about looking at what would be the right Gym for me in the area and was and am very thrilled with David Lloyd. The staff are just the most amazing people from the cleaning crew to the PT’s and everyone else. Special shout out to Jenny who put me at ease when I asked about going and was empathetic with my niggling little voice saying you’ll never go. But I am going. And I love it.

Fantastic experience: I use David Lloyd Cambridge every day. The high level of instruction form the basis of my fitness work. Only this week I have had significant advice from Steve Housden regarding my training and its impact on my diabetes - this is very important and valuable. Cari Brearley teaches excellent classes with a multitude of options for all ages and level. Chris Johnstone has transformed my swimming. Moira King is truly wonderful in the spa.
