Basildon Sporting Village: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Trampoline gymnastics class
Fantastic experience: Got a climbing wall swimming pools gym loads to do here..
Negative experience: Loads of Cars getting Parking Tickets today (Sat 26th Oct) for Parking on the Verge next to the Main Road because the Car Park was full. Beware people... don't let the Greedy Parking Wardens grab your hard earned cash
Negative experience: Well done, the cost of playing football for 50 minutes is almost £70 now, what right did you have to increase the price by another £10 . ? When it comes to words, everyone should be active, right? We will go somewhere else from now , charging almost £70 for a football pitch is not acceptable at all ,this is clearly ripping public off .Also parking issues getting worse and worse , minimum 20 mins to get in and find a parking space and another 20 mins to get out so a lot of people parking by B&Q area opposite and walk through dual carriage way to get to centre , brilliant management
Fantastic experience: Its a nice place
Negative experience: Most filthiest swimming pool changing rooms I have ever encountered. Looks like it hasn't ever been cleaned. Really disgusting setting, I brought my baby here and felt sickened by the state of the changing rooms, showers and toilets. Avoid this place at all costs! Staff were very rude in the cafe too. Surprising that the reviews for this facility have been consistently bad for so long and yet looks like nothing is getting done about improving it!!
Positive experience: I enjoy the swimming in the deep pool very much. this activity is also part of my daily fitness & revalidation routines. I would recommend a required use of caps for people with longer hair. I see frequently flocks of hair on the floor of the pool or feel hair strings locked around a finger when swimming. The use of caps is very likely to reduce those experiences.
Negative experience: Membership staff are rude and unhelpful. Wouldnt answer the phone and had to phone reception, gave me so much attitude for asking to upgrade my membership. Everytime I went to the gym they would sit at there desk with a face like a smacked arse.
Negative experience: So dirty I have never seen a dirtier floor in my life. Disguisting… its a swimming facility, not a recycling centre, get more cleaners
Negative experience: We acquired two one-day passes from Everyone Active application to take a tour of this location. My friend and I were led to a woman who was seated at the desk next to the stairs. We had slight issues with the language compared to her because we weren't British, but we nevertheless did our best to explain to her that we were there for the tour in addition to joining the club. Despite our limited understanding of the "everyone active" application, she instructed us to finish the gym induction on our own. She did point me in the direction of the menu so that I could finish the induction, but even after that, she continued to act so unprofessionally and rudely that we considered leaving! She then informed us that she had given us a one-day pass ‘like charity’ as we were wrapping up our indoctrination. After receiving no guidance or such a trip, she returned to taking care of herself. The worst thing of all was that she didn't even have the courtesy to ask us to sit down! I'm not sure if treating foreign nationals like this, is governed by staff policy or corporate policy. In any case, I'm merely reporting it as a consumer, and I'll make sure to tell my loved ones about it so they can stay out of situations like this.
Negative experience: Changing area for pool was not clean and a dirty nappy had been chucked under the seat in the changing area. Disappointed that I only joined two weeks ago to do aqua classes. Only to be told the Tuesday class will not run for two weeks in August. No temp will be doing them instead.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely swim in the family pool today with 2 young children. We all enjoyed it. The water was warm enough and the availability of the swim sessions was much better than other local pools.
Fantastic experience: Receptionist extremely helpful and the facility is accessible and well thought out. Booking via app is clear and very useful.
Negative experience: Terrible customer service, needs proper training on how to talk to customers without attitude.
Fantastic experience: Great sporting village! Car park can get very busy!
Negative experience: why doesn't anyone ever answer the phones. my son is on their swim scheme, been waiting for a call to discuss why they haven't been marking his attendance in for about a month now. still no word, think its just turning into a money trap now, everything on the curriculum he can do with ease and they still have not marked him up. getting a bit ridiculous. wonder if ill get a call back now
Negative experience: Mostly terrible staff and the swimming changing rooms are absolutely disgusting and never cleaned. The same stain on the inside of a changing room cubicle has been here for years. Such a shame as the facility is massive and has so much potential. Management needs to be changed.
Fantastic experience: Very welcoming staff and clean facilities. It is a family and friends venue.
Fantastic experience: Great place for all your fitness needs. Great place to take the family super friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Always got lots of activities for people's to do here young and the elderly from dance classes to rock climbing to the outside running to seating area, beautiful to link up with friends for the day, look online to see what you like and book up. Free parking. Lots off space. They do gluten free food that's what I like also many gym do not Cater for people who have allergies you have to bring your own foods.
Negative experience: Poor customer service by a few of the staff, dirty gents toilets and drink water dispenser. packed in the evenings with meat head body buiiders walking away from machines to talk to there mates then wanting a row when you use the machine, shame it used to be quite a nice place.
Positive experience: Enough space for everyone but the water at the pool is always cold. I don’t know why they don’t put on the heater.
Negative experience: I got charged for a membership more then my offer was, a month was ment to be free it wasnt, lady who does the membership lied about the joining fee and payments. Not recommended!!!!
Positive experience: Travelling through and thought I would try the gym. Single entry/pay as you go available but at £8.55 - fair for the quality of equipment in the gym but does put it at a similar pricing point as the high end private gyms. This is the main reason it didn't get 5*. One major positive is, I don't think I've been to a gym that is more inclusive. All levels of fitness and training goals seemed to be training in the same space. Friendly safe and patrons make for a very comfortable place to train. Great machines and didn't have to wait/find alternatives despite the fact it is a community facility. High end Technogym setup, with plenty of cardio as well.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant outdoor training pitches.
Negative experience: I went to cancel my membership and the lady on the phone was so rude about it and she told me I can't cancel my membership I ask to speak to a manger and she said no manager in today and I know that's a lie then she said just cancel my direct debit then it will cancel it I did do that but it don't sound like the correct way of canceling a membership I will not join the gym again after this and I never do a bad review but this time had to let the public know
Positive experience: This is a good size pool and the changing rooms are clean. You are asked to remove shoes when entering but there are no seats to do this. The pool is always quite cold. Since COVID, you can only go for an hour slot which never feels long enough. An hour and a half would be better. Why does there have to be a slot? We were ready to enter the pool at 11.50 today but had to wait 10 minutes for lessons to finish, even though most of the pool was empty.
Negative experience: Please don't take your baby swimming here. The training pool that you can take your babies to is freezing, me and my husband were even too cold, our poor baby was shivering the whole time, we couldn't bare to stay in it
Negative experience: Swimming classes are rip offs. It’s only 30 minutes session, then teacher returns pupils and collects new batch, then she does registers, then brief pupils. Thats 10 minutes gone. Then teacher would look at her handheld, would talk to parents to kids who are afraid to go in water. All these keeps the teacher engaged that she barely gets to pay attention to pupils. Not sure how good thses are or if these meet any standards. We are looking for some other place for our kid.
Fantastic experience: Great sport venue ,indoors and outdoors facilities.
Fantastic experience: Done my training here, love the place, stuff are helpful just a nice place to climb
Positive experience: Lovely place cab cover all your exercise needs and very well priced
Fantastic experience: Love this pool and so does my grandson. Male sure you have a pound coin for the locker ( which you get back) Great showers, easy to park.and parking is free
Fantastic experience: Helpful and friendly staff. The facilities are excellent
Negative experience: Very dirty floors everywhere. Looks like they don't have cleaners at all.
Fantastic experience: I do enjoy using the pool. The showers are lovely to use after a swim. The staff are friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Great track! Clean & tidy. Athletes friendly!
Fantastic experience: Good equipment. Good facilities. Staff were excellent.
Negative experience: My eldest daughter took my youngest daughter swimming here paid an extortionate amount (£10!!!) for a poxy pool noodle only to have it stolen and when she asked staff for help was told there’s nothing they can do now? Disgusting!
Positive experience: Only dropping off and collecting a netball team and my phone assumes I'm an expert!! Had a drink in the air-conditioned café on a hot day!
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff and very clean. Whatever you're looking for you will find it here
Fantastic experience: A beautiful place to workout.... Guys... You need to try their football pitch!!! So lovely
Positive experience: Good place to excercise but have trouble booking classes
Fantastic experience: Staff are really friendly and helpful... They took the time to answer my questions
Positive experience: Spin class with Angelina is always good. She motivates and instructs for the whole group. Just can't always hear the instructions via the microphone as seems distorted
Positive experience: Awesome sporting venue for swimming. Gymnasium looks cool too, just wish someone at reception would answer thr phone. Been on the phone for over 15 minutes trying to speak to someone, but no one picks up.
Negative experience: My step daughter was having swimming lessons here, The first set of lessons in the “small/baby” pool were fine, she really built her confidence and she thrived- also really benefit from her teacher being IN the water with her. But when it was time to move up, things changed drastically. The new teacher stays outside the pool and I find that instead of helping the kids she just shouts things at them to do. This is a major issue as it’s not just my step daughter but other kids are struggling and instead of helping them, the teacher tells them to get out of the pool or move out of the way. They should be nurtured. They aren’t confident enough for this method, they’re only 6-8 year olds? My step daughter has now regressed with her swimming and even tho she should be in the 6-8 group, she’s gone back to the baby pool. This is very saddening and I’m not sure I’ll be bringing her for lessons here anymore. No compassion or empathy.
Fantastic experience: Sporting Village offers something for everyone, and staff are very approachable. You can use their app to book sessions up to one week in advance too. The gym staff are super helpful and the space is fitted out with everything you could need, including a TRX.
Negative experience: What has happened to the gym? Absolutely rank toilets that look like a tramp has been living in them, 2 of 3 Watt bikes not working, no staff on site. Receptionist rude. And Everyone Active wonder why I never renewed my membership. Why would I pay for this rubbish?
Fantastic experience: Go to aquarobics at Basildon Sporting Village. Angie on Thursday is amazing. X
Fantastic experience: Basildon Phoenix Swimming Club is a great opportunity if your kid would like to advance as a competitive swimmer. Different groups for different ages and abilities, but the kid is expected to work and compete and you need to prepare to dedicate evenings and very early mornings to drive your kid to trainings. No splash time, bot lots of very experienced coaching.
Negative experience: Was here for a swimming competition, i lost my chain with earrings I asked the officials if they found it they said they handed it in to reception I went to ask the receptionist and then after the receptionist said that they don’t have it even tho the officials told me that they handed it the day before I asked.Doesn’t leave me with any other thoughts and makes me feel like they got it and took it home.
Negative experience: How can you have a sports centre open on the day of hosting a major event and have the cafeteria closed.. lazy and sloppy.
Fantastic experience: Free carpark - can visit Gloucester Park, great walking and an ideal place to bring children.
Fantastic experience: We booked through the app. Swimming was the activity and we can say we are very impressed. It was easy to gain access to the facilities, the locker rooms we clean, the lockers are easy to use. Just make sure you have a token or a £1 coin. They have 1 hour booking slots, when you enter the pool area its a little unclear if your OK to enter the pool. I asked a lifeguard and confirmed our session in the pool. Overall a good experience
Fantastic experience: Went to see my sons Boxing match great night great company in aid of collecting for cancer Loved it
Positive experience: Great sports centre mix of loads of sports to join and most staff are friendly
Fantastic experience: Today I visited the SV for Spin and Gym all your colleagues were very helpful and friendly. I also used the cafeteria, I found the service to be exceptionally good. The ladies on duty in the cafeteria were excellent, their friendliness a d good service adds to the atmosphere. Well done and thank you to Carla, Evetta and Julie
Negative experience: I called few times today but no answer. Then I had no choice but to take my chances and did drive there. Even though it says it's open till 8 p.m. the building was open and there was absolutely no staff visible and even the front desk was left without any stuff whatsoever, I waited maybe 10 minutes looking for any member of staff which was absolutely pointless no success. Just wasted the petrol and the time really.
Negative experience: A lady took my call on 10/6/22 at 11:20am who then hang up when I asked about the process of cancelling my gym membership. - Great service
Fantastic experience: Lovely Gloucester park behind the sports centre. Looks really nice but I can't comment on the gym and swimming pool as never been inside but regularly walk round park at lunch break.
Fantastic experience: Great service at Basildon sporting village. Visited as a wheelchair user and was really pleased with how accessible and inclusive the site was. The team were really friendly, Scot on memberships was bright and helpful, and Lyndsey running SportsForConfidence was amazing. Everyone was so helpful and made us feel great about coming to the gym despite the obstacles of being a wheelchair user
Negative experience: If I could give ZERO!!!!! I would only because I can never EVER get through to reception I’ve rang many times and noone ever has answered ever and I’ve then had to drive there to speak to a member of staff. Not impressed..
Negative experience: Terrible service and arrogant staff. Paid for a coffee and was given one from an auto machine with milk from a powder. No warning upfront that their espresso machine did not work. When wanted a refund the three girls behind the counter started to ignore me and the cashier all of a sudden went somewhere. After 10 mins waiting I was told to wait more (for the refund?!). So I left without a proper coffee and no refund. Wouldn’t recommend,. The centre is great but that little thing with the cafe service put me off to visit them again.
Negative experience: I do not understand why they have a phone you can never get through to them on the phone anytime you call it’s a minimum of 20 minutes if your lucky enough to get answered
Negative experience: Have been coming here for years and pay for 3 months of my daughter swimming. Lessons are decent enough Numerous times they have had lessons cancelled for galas and teachers ill etc, I understand this but they have never given me a penny back or took mo ey off the following payment. When I asked at the front desk 4 weeks ago they said "we can't do anything submit an enquiry online." 3 enquiries later still no response. They are quick enough to call you when payment is due but customer service is appalling. They call themselves a community but I suppose you can call your self what you like. Don't come here if you need customer service. Poor show
Fantastic experience: My Granddaughter is learning to swim here her trainer is Mark and he's very good at what he does, my Granddaughter had next to no confidence in the water and now she can swim she has a lot of confidence in Mark, she also goes here for Gymnastics and again no complaints she's getting on great. The place is clean and bright the staff are very friendly just a nice place to go
Positive experience: Went down their today with my daughter to get told we are fully booked when there was 10 or less people in the pool… then when I said can I book for next Saturday was rudely told there will be no available spots when she didn’t even look on the system just rudely said no spots I’ve gone for years with my daughter and never once met a rude staff member like the one I met today
Positive experience: Lots of money buys nice facilities (though apparently a slightly-to-short stunning pool).
Fantastic experience: High standard facility. You are always welcomed here. Fantastic staff and vrei friendly. Coffee bar inside.
Positive experience: Plenty of options for children and family. Swimming pool, gymnastic, Aikido, Karate, Tennis, Football and gym are available. You do not need to pay for parking.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities. Always an enjoyable experience
Fantastic experience: Brought my daughter for her swimming lessons...it was a lovely experience...Teacher was good and attended to all the students in her class including my daughter... I would like to start my own classes as well... I need to get over the fear of water...
Positive experience: Lots of spaces gets very busy lighting not great at night but don't be tempted to park in disabled or yellow lines saw parking enforcement tickets applied.
Fantastic experience: It is always a busy parking specially during weekdays in the afternoon. Love the fact it is a free car park. Alteady a member from everyone active .
Fantastic experience: I've been coming here for my children's lessons for many years, and usually have nothing nice to say, (rude staff amongst other things) but today, I couldn't fault them. We didn't even make it inside the building and my accident prone daughter fell, hit her head on the floor. A lovely lady walking past asked if I wanted an ice pack, she went inside and within seconds there was 3 members of the first aid staff attending to her. 1 whom had been the other side of the building, they were all so kind, caring and asked how she was every time they passed us, including an hour and half later. I couldn't fault these amazing people, Thank you so much.
Positive experience: Staff were amazing and so helpful such a great day out.
Positive experience: The centre clearly ticks many boxes for many people, the facilities seem well maintained, the whole centre is clean, the equipment seems to get replaced when it's service life is over, the car park just about caters for the huge numbers, but needs maintenance and rubbish clearing, there seems to be no garden maintenance there at all.
Fantastic experience: I just completed the 5k Swimathon at Basildon pool. I was very slow My worst time ever. The pool staff were incredibly patient kind and encouraging. Really supported the whole event and went above and beyond. Thank you so much I raised £400 in memory of a good friend Kate who would have told me to give up when you all encouraged me.
Negative experience: More like 'Nobody Active' unless you're a member of an elite club. Their community demeanour is a ruse. They sell the pool off to the highest bidding clubs to earn more. The community pool is only available for 50 members of the public for one hour a day on a Saturday. Which is a real snub to local families. We spoke to the receptionist who told us the timetable is created by some woman up north who's never even been to Basildon!
Negative experience: I usually use the centres in Hornchurch or Romford, but due to a very poorly family member, I've been around Basildon. I decided to take my daughter for a long awaited swim. I phoned on Tuesday as I was having trouble with the website I was told it was fully booked, so I inquired about Thursday instead. The staff member went through the availability, I made my choice and went through with payment. I was told it was all done. I've turned up today and they have no record of my booking. Now today is fully booked so we still can't swim. Disappointed to say the least. I won't bother anymore. I'd rather go to a centre that operates properly.
Negative experience: I have been going to the sporting village for lessons for years with my oldest girl since she was 5 she is now 13 but I'm saddend to say my youngest come out feeling like a failure she was moved to yellow I asked on first lesson if she was OK and the teacher said yes tonight they have done a complete uturn and put her back to orange as it is said she isn't coping I feel they just can't be bothered at the moment they just want a class with confident swimmers I'm paying for them to teach her that is the point .I am fuming she has been in her new class for two weeks maybe three and they haven't given her a chance and I was told it isn't fair on the class which might I add have all been a beginner in a new class.my daughter has cried all night and doesn't want to go swimming anymore due to this situation tonight. I'm not happy as my older daughter has so many I'm her class we ain't seing progress at the minute I feel like I should just pull them out .
Fantastic experience: Badminton back on. Great facilities, clean and tidy. Not many staff available would be my only issue
Fantastic experience: Lovely car park. The lines are the perfect shade of white and situated far enough apart to fit a car between. Will definitely park here again.
Fantastic experience: I have never had problems with this place I have been here like 25 times all the staff were nice and kind to each other very professional never had issues with these people lovely place for people to go and enjoy themselves no one shouts at each other they never ignore people or the public which is a good thing this place I’m certainly going to put 5 stars as it’s really good I would definitely recommend this place it’s also perfect for little and middle aged children same with the adults lovely cafe and lovely drinks.
Fantastic experience: Go there for swimming ♂️ the organisation and distance is 100 % I feel safe and certainly get back to some energy, muscles and hopefully my shape . I feel more awake.
Negative experience: keep trying to access the app without success daily attempts !! please sort out your web page app for booking swim sessions
Negative experience: Unfortunately 12 swimmers are booked per double lane which exceeds the government guidance for opening of pools. In consequence there is insufficient social distance in the pool, showers, and bag area.
Negative experience: Got in the pool for 2 minutes with about 20 others to be told the session isnt to go ahead? Everyone evacuated and they wont refund me the money either. Very unorganised and wont be going there again.
Fantastic experience: Basildon Sporting Village is home to Simply Cycling Basildon Inclusive and creative cycling for all
Negative experience: 1. While swimming during the afternoon my bike had been stolen. When I let the reception know and asked for the next steps they told me that someone had come in to complain about two men being weird about my bike so it was probably them. Why didn’t anyone go out to investigate? 2. They claim that they ensure the pool and showers are regularly cleaned. I’m the first person to leave the pool and get in the showers each time and every single time they were filthy. There are more people in the pool than what should be allowed so Covid regulations aren’t even enforced. 3. After cancelling my membership within the 14 days that I am legally allowed to do, there was a delay in getting my refund. I called up, their membership manager picked up. I asked her why it was taking so long and she decided to not just have a go at me because her colleagues had been furloughed but tell me that I was lucky she approved my refund...even thought I requested the cancellation within the 14 days that they themselves state on their site.
Positive experience: The swimming centre, outdoor facilities, gymnastic gym and dryside are fantastic. Free and ample parking spot on. The only thing that let's the facility down is the catering, the staff are miserable and unhelpful, the service very slow, no where to sit as tables not cleared away and to be honest the coffee and hot chocolate was fowl. Such a shame as I couldn't fault anything else, nice to have clean toilet facilities.
Negative experience: No access route for pedestrians Price charts are too complex to understand
Negative experience: Can’t fault inside the actual sporting facility but the car park by the netball courts are so small and the road up to it has over grown bushes which scratch my car !! Please cut them if possible because I’m up there every week
Fantastic experience: Staff are friendly and approachable don't feel intimidated by other useras they are all friendly but my one complaint is the changing rooms and showers. I don't think that they are ever cleaned dirt on floors in changing areas and hair and other products in showers not hygienic in any way
Positive experience: Amazing location for beginner's and experienced climbers. Very affordable and there are many climbs of all grades which get changed often so you won't get bored. If you don't have your own equipment they have it to rent at a reasonable price. Staff are super friendly and welcoming of both beginners and experienced climbers.
Fantastic experience: Very very good facilities and great staff. Have been to the swimming pool countless times and it is honestly the best pool in Essex. 50m pool with a moving boom and half the pool’s floor can be elevated, pool has 8 lanes and starting blocks at both ends of the pool as well as fully functioning time pads and starting cameras. As well as swimming, the facility also offers many other sports such as football, athletics, gymnastics and rock climbing. Highly recommend to anyone
Fantastic experience: Great place for sports. It was busy with all range of activities and different age ranges. Something for the individual or all the family
Positive experience: The climbing wall is often busy. It seems to be very popular especially with young people
Fantastic experience: Come hear most weeks facilities inside great. Only one thing that let this place down was at the disable bays there are double yellow lines behind disabled parking but still people park there which makes it difficult to reverse if you are in a large van.
