Meadowside Leisure Centre

Negative experience: Shocking levels of incompetence throughout the company. Unable to resolve the most basic of issues on site. No response to emails or feedback. Frustrating. I've attached a photo. Posted 19/11/2024 saying my account has been paid up to the 30/11/2024 yet they wanted another month's money. Just a load of nonsense

Negative experience: Can't knock the facilities. But and it is a big but. On 2 occasions I have charged for 2 accounts and been refused entry when I have cancelled one of them. I have left several feedback forms for someone to call me and try and resolve the issue. But nobody has. The staff on site are friendly and helpful enough but they just can't help with things. The managers are very elusive. It's really frustrating. Levels of incompetence is astonishing.

Negative experience: This must be a joke. In the women’s restroom, two out of three stalls were out of order yet again, and in the only functioning one, the flush barely worked. How are people supposed to use the facilities there? This isn’t the first time. It’s disgusting! Shame on you!

Fantastic experience: Amazing

Positive experience: Good parking, great facilities.

Negative experience: It’s a public swimming pool with very limited public access for parents with toddlers. The small pool is always closed due to a private class or something going on and their solution is to use the main pool….where a toddler cannot touch the floor. At best this a private leisure center that occasionally allows the public to enter.

Positive experience: Gym and swimming are great here as long as you dont need to use the facilities. Toilets are either broken (out of order), dirty and smelly, or all three! Soap dispensers empty most of the time. The Showers near to the swimming pool are either broken or when they do work, not very good. The pool, Showers and toilets have looked the same for thirty or more years, in desperate need of an update! Prices increase all the time but they don't seem to want to invest in their facilties. Would be nice if the pool was heated too or atleast not so cold. Staff are very polite, swimming instructors Izzy Ellie and Sophie are brilliant and patient. One of the reception staff - possibly management- appears to have an issue with the ladies only swimming session as he takes every opportunity he can to comment on there not being a 'dad's and lads' group but there is a 'women and girls only' one. He says the centre will have to consider scrapping the session which is only one hour, once a week as it is. And used to be twice a week. He says its a business after all and they'd make more if that one hour slot on a Sunday afternoon was mixed. I disagree of course, they're more likely to lose those ladies that would usually book the ladies only swimming, and the same number of mixed people would just have 1 more 1 hour slot to take their pick from. I hope this one hour, once a week ladies only session is not scrapped as I know I appreciate the option and so do many other women.

Negative experience: Took my grandchildren today to the soft play. The under 5 area was really tatty and not very clean.the carpet smelt. Older children were jumping around in there too and there was no supervision in the whole soft play for the hour and half I was there. Toys were grubby and the plastic/foam building blocks were torn. I complained and was told they were short staffed and a deep clean is only done once a month. This is very disappointing and really not acceptable. Surely if its not staffed they should consider not opening it.

Negative experience: Staff on reception are extremely rude! Particularly one blonde long haired lady, speaks to you like dirt. Changing rooms are filthy and smelly, need a major deep clean! Health suite is also filthy! Water machines need a sanitise! Cafe staff are very lovely but the prices are extortionate! Not the best, possibly changing centres soon!

Fantastic experience: Please ignore review from Jay PT, I use this gym all the time and the personal trainers, they are wholesome and friendly, there is no way this happened, note that he can't string a sentence together and trust your gut... he's disgruntled because he can't behave badly in a public space.

Fantastic experience: This place is fantastic please ignore the review about Richard it's a disgruntled member who was told he couldn't jump over turnstiles to enter gym. Richard is a well known an respected PT who is more than helpful and will go above to help you achieve your goals. no steroids were ever offered and this is a way of getting back for being scolded.

Fantastic experience: Kids love it. Great safe space to play. Refreshments available. Good value for money.

Negative experience: Filthy and not safe for babies. They’re hosting baby swimming sessions with only two baby changing facilities. I had to change my baby on a mat on the filthy floor. My baby is crawling, so as you can imagine, he was trying to crawl off the mat onto the dirty, black tiles picking up filth, hair and plasters littered on the floor. Your other option is sitting them on the skinny benches where they’re bound to fall off. The learning pool itself isn’t clean and in need of good repair. It was a very stressful experience trying to keep my baby clean and safe, and I won’t be returning.

Positive experience: Well, we nearly never went trusting the reviews but actually the pool is great , the issues i found were 1hr sessions so everyone trying to get changed before and after at the same time! No showers, lockers or hairdryers! Very annoying waiting, freezing with a 5yr old whilst and it wasnt even busy so heaven knows at peak times . The car park you have to pay for then get refunded , more arsing around , it did smell of wee in the changing rooms as others have mentioned but overall it was ok and I'd know in future to get out early and get there with time to get changed . I would go again though

Fantastic experience: Ryan & Reyhan were fantastic instructors at the Clip & Climb. Showed tons on patience with both my 4 year old son and I I'm terrified of heights but they didn't make me silly whatsoever!! And the little "help rescue teddy" game was a great way to encourage kids to keep climbing higher!! Will be going again for sure!!

Negative experience: As a leisure centre, it's completely awful compared to others in the area. Everything is bad compared to what should be for a leisure centre. There are two saunas - a dry sauna, and a steam room. I have been in more than 200 different saunas, and I'm telling you these are the most pathetic ones you can possibly find. I came after the gym and was willing to take a shower - UPS, NO SHOWER FOR YOU IN THE SAUNA AREA. Then I tried to use another one nearby towards the pool - UPS, IT'S LOCKED BECAUSE WHY NOT! They said it was because there were kids in swimming lessons, but there were no kids at all, just staff wandering around. I had to do my best to convince them to let me in to take a shower before going to the sauna. After asking where else I should go then, the answer was straightforward - I don't know, I don't care. Okay, good so far, so I took a shower and went to the steam room, which should not be called that because there was no steam at all and the temperature was not much higher than room temperature. Relax area they say. Then I went to the dry sauna, same joke as the previous one, no heat AT ALL. Even if there were, there are no cold showers nearby. The person who designed or is running this has not a slightest idea how a sauna area should be. The dressing rooms are moldy, dirty, and stinky. The only positive thing I can say is the gym was good in general, clean, and the equipment is in good shape. However, there are no dressing rooms next to the gym, and I was given a non-working pass and had to wait for someone from other members to be kind and let me in. Also, do not fall for the lies from them when they say the car park is free of charge because they pay for you. The ticket machine only accepts cash and DOES NOT GIVE YOU CHANGE! And what's worse, this leisure centre only pays for 1 hour and does not consider how much you paid into the machine. It's literally a pure scam scheme, and this was not mentioned. When I tried to solve it with the reception, they instantly became rude and constantly said it's not my problem, if you don't like something, go complain to the council. So, summing everything up, this is an awful place for people who want to have a nice relaxing day. There are many better options in the area. 2 stars save only for follow up call which means site manager cares about in one way or another and the gym was good.

Fantastic experience: Whilst visiting family, we took advantage of our Gold Everyone Active memberships over the Easter weekend to use the gym. The reception staff helped sort entry glitches. The gym staff were friendly and helpful. The facilities are excellent, well maintained with lots of equipment we don't have at our regular EA site. We witnessed regular cleaning by staff in addition to wipe dispensers for people to clean gym equipment before and after use. We're looking forward to our next visit. Thank you Meadowside!

Fantastic experience: My lad just did the climbing wall with Ryan and Reghan absolutely loved it thanks to these guys, so unsure he would do it, but Ryan gave him so much confidence and he is only four, made me proud , would definitely recommend especially with them two!

Negative experience: Fun place but it’s need more cleaning. You feel dust going onto your lungs

Positive experience: Decent place for swimming and using the gym, has soft play and clip and climb for reasonable prices

Fantastic experience: 90mins of fun. Big enough for ages upto 12. Lots of fun and lots to do. Recommendation of booking online via their website to get the best amount of time from a slot, but you can also turn up.

Positive experience: Went swimming here today, very nice place, clean and well looked after. Staff were very helpful and go above and beyond for every person they serve at reception giving great advice, tips and making the experience as easy as possible.

Positive experience: There for a party abit over crowded need only let a certain amount in at a time and when slots finish they need to let them leave first and leave before letting others in

Positive experience: Really happy with the soft play party for my 7 yr old. Bianka was an excellent host. Well organised, ran smoothly and stress free. Spacious party room to keep 20+ kids entertained. Fun had by all.

Negative experience: Basic facilities. Good value for money (in a way). However, I prefer to pay a bit more and get better facilities, well maintained and looked after. I had a day pass and was not impressed by the cold lady that helped me get the pass sorted. The cafe and reception are welcoming and well maintained, however, the pool looks very old and dirty; sauna was not working and the steam room smelled badly. The ‘spa’ area is a very small room. I feel sorry for not taking any pictures to demonstrate how the leisure centre really is.

Fantastic experience: Just wow! What a place to take the kids. So many things to play on and do, with reasonable price food and drinks. They also have an under 5's and baby/toddler area, and loads of seating. Tbh, I wish they did a half day ticket as 3.5hrs really wasn't enough. You can't really string it out any longer if you park there as the ticket they gives runs out 30mins before the ANPR parking allowance, which if you go over you'll be fined. The whole area has the anpr cameras, so not the fault of the hub. You could move it. But it's a bit of a walk from anywhere you could leave it.

Negative experience: Kids zone is never properly cleaned, dust is flying everywhere,plastic balls in area under 5s newer being disinfected nor that carpet in there ever saw a vacuum... Been there just before new year, my kid caught a norovirus, all new year was spent on the toilet... Thanks a lot!

Negative experience: I bought coffee from the coffee shop, but it tasted like water. Even though they have a proper coffee machine, it seems they're not using it. I guess it takes too long to make coffee with it! Instead, they're using a 20p vendor coffee machine and charging £3.15.

Fantastic experience: My daughter had a swim disco party here at the weekend. Was such a wonderful experience. She and her friends loved it, having the pool all to themselves, excellent, clean facilities and the lifeguard poolside was so friendly and kind. Was so easy to book. Kyle was so helpful and informative, he even called after the party to check everything went well and as expected! Huge Thankyou to the catering team too, particularly Sheree. Food was lovely. We had the hot buffet, pizza and chips, portions were generous food was fresh and hot. Was very impressed with this whole experience and would definitely recommend the pool parties. Massive Thankyou to the centre and the team involved in supporting us that day x

Fantastic experience: Had a great Clip 'n Climb session with my two boys (7 & 9) yesterday. Instructors gave just the right amount of gentle encouragement to get them both over some initial nerves and climbing to the top. They both loved it and left asking when we can go back.

Positive experience: Not been to this leisure centre in years and the improvements are great!! Friendly staff, amazing new soft play area which my son loved and the clip and climb looks great. Will definitely be coming back here in the near future!!!

Fantastic experience: I went to the disco swim at Meadowside with my two young cousins and they loved it, it’s good fun for all ages, they especially enjoyed the floats and toys provided by the centre. The receptionist was very friendly and the team were efficient to ensure we had a fun session. I would highly recommend and will be visiting again.

Positive experience: It's ok overall, Sauna is cooler than a garden shed. The swimming changing rooms could use a maintaince man, and a good clean. Gym it top notch. The everyone active junior swimming both here and Uttoxter are pretty poor and not worth it.

Fantastic experience: The staff from catering and the hosts went above and beyond expectations. The catering staff catered for all food diets and allergies. I was asked when I wanted food and dessert for the children. The hosts were great in managing all the children and parents to the soft play and food hall. They helped carry gifts and extra things from soft play to food hall. The children all felt comfortable around them. All the staff helped make the day extra special for my little girl. I would like to say thankyou to them from the bottom of my heart. If anyone is debating whether to book for a party I highly recommend meadowside The stress is taken off the parents.

Fantastic experience: Had my son’s birthday party here today and can’t thank them enough. Jordan was helpful and always just a shout away if we were unsure of anything. Sheree was absolutely amazing, nothing too much trouble, so polite and friendly. Definitely recommend it, they handled everything for us. We just turned up armed with balloons and a cake!

Positive experience: The centre has a great soft play over multiple levels with trampolines and slides. It is virtually brand new and in excellent condition. As you would expect there’s a large cafe there and all the usual swimming and gym sessions. The car parking while large does require you to pay, however if you present your ticket purchase to the reception this is then removed from your entry price. Each session is timed so that it never gets too busy.

Negative experience: Great facilities, too expensive for the soft play. I don't agree with paying for an adult to go in when I'm just sitting there keeping an eye on my children, £7 for the privilege.

Fantastic experience: Fairly priced, clean and tidy. Ages 0 to 12. Very big soft play.

Fantastic experience: We had our daughters 6th birthday party private hire on April 15th and from start to finish the team at Meadowside we're so accommodating. They took our dietary requirements seriously and spoke to ourselves and another parent to make sure our children's needs we're catered for. Planning was easy we got everything sent in a welcome pack electronically and all was completed swiftly. Come to the day of the party and Jordan + Euan were fantastic they got everything up and running was always in eye shot if we needed anything juice was the number one ask. The whistle is every parents dream how they can control 20+ children with a single toot amazing so it saved the wife shouting for attention. Food selection is amazing and it all came out together it was hot and named and the dietary food was separate when finished swift tidy up on trolley and it was gone. When it came to cleaning up our autistic daughter didn't hesitate to help Jordan + Euan and credit to them both was so supportive of the situation that they let her help and was understanding. In the words of our daughter "it was the best day ever" Thanks to you all x

Fantastic experience: Booked my little boys 5th birthday bouncy castle party on 2nd April and couldn’t have asked for more. Sheree prepared the food for us and was so friendly and helpful bringing it our a bit earlier for the children and Daley and Evan were super, watching the children (and playing balloons with them!) while they played with all the assorted toys and soft climbing blocks etc. My little boy loved it! Was all made very easy too. Thank you

Fantastic experience: I visit the gym regularly and catch up with friends in the café afterwards, the ladies who serve us on a Tuesday and Thursday morning are so friendly and helpful with our coffee and food orders. Well worth a visit for their service with a smile.

Fantastic experience: We go to the soft play a lot as there isn’t much if anything to do with little ones in burton when it’s cold. My son loves the soft play there is plenty to do. We have recently started going to the active ants on a Wednesday morning and it’s the best thing my 2 year old can use all of the soft play as the big kids can’t book in to this session always arts and crafts to do and the lady who runs it is amazing with everyone!

Positive experience: Soft play is the best here would give that 5 stars. However, there's only ever 1 staff on the reception part at the weekend so your queuing for ages, and if your child has a swimming lesson be prepared to feel like your sitting on the person next to you because the seats in the viewing area are so close together, I understand its not the biggest area and also, the metal bars looking from the viewing area are directly in your view so it's awkward to see your child in the pool

Fantastic experience: Our football team are training here at the moment, a good centre with plenty going on,something for most people.

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting, my child is apart of a swimming group and has classes every Saturday 1145 till 1215pm I dropped my child off last Saturday for her swimming class. It's only a 30 min class and we were already a couple of minutes late. I dropped her off right outside the doors watched her walk in and waited a minute before I drove off to go to the pharmacy. Came back at 1215 to be told the class has been cancelled and my child was told to leave the building. WHY WAS WE NOT called to be made aware the class was cancelled ? They have her Dad's number on record WHY were we not informed of the cancellation? Fortunately my daughter made it back home safely she walked back home 45 minute on her own but in between that time I was worried sick. Standard I should have not left her in the first place. BUT all this could have been avoided if YOU called and informed us of the cancellation.

Fantastic experience: This place has the best soft play around! Haven't used any of the other services so can't comment. Just lovely :)

Fantastic experience: Took the baby boy to the soft play/ball pool/jungle gym area or play area. Either way, it's loads of fun, kids are mental and it's nice to see them blazing around the place. Can't wait til the wee one grows more as I get so tired out! Ha ha. Great venue for ages 1-10 no doubt!

Negative experience: Not been here in a while.. and after this experience I don’t think I will be rushing back.. Not 1 of the team members were welcoming.. The Que meant that the 1hr swim was reduced to 45mins. No apologies. Spent 10 more minutes sorting parking due to the machine not working and not being given changed when I asked. A bonus is you get the parking back but was told I needed to have it back on my card. I paid by cash and didn’t have my card. So after telling me that the refund should go back on the card she eventually gave it me in cash. Disappointed in the overall experience.

Negative experience: Ringworm 2 hours after swimming in main pool

Negative experience: My partner used your main pool today and 2 hours afterwards noticed a strange red mark on her arm. As time has gone on it’s become raised and white in the middle, we believe it’s ringworm. As it is a Sunday all pharmacies and supermarkets are closed and she cannot get medical advice or treatment or which she will have to PAY for. This is absolutely appalling and I will be warning all of my friends and family to not use your pools.

Negative experience: They close the showers before activities finish. So if you finish sport at 9.45 you have to go home smelling.

Fantastic experience: Had a children's soft play party with exclusive hire. The place was clean and tables set up for our arrival. Staff member friendly, helpful and on hand to help with anything required. Two staff members also helped to clear up at the end of the party. Lots of contact prior and option to self cater or order the food through them. Fair price for 2.5 hour party with the self catering option taken. Large soft play and plenty of facilities and room. The children had a lot of fun.

Fantastic experience: My 6 year old daughter had a party at the soft play this weekend and it was great. Meadowside could not have done enough. The staff were super helpful and the kids loved it!

Negative experience: Everyone active have put up their prices for existing members, however their services or facilities have not improved. For example the steam and sauna room does not have a cold shower like every other leisure places do. If you want to have a shower you have to come out of the area, go through the changing rooms and then to the poolside shower where you can’t even adjust the shower temperature.

Fantastic experience: I have been going here for many weeks now and I must say I have been having an amazing experience here meeting new people and getting my exercise in the pool for an hour every 3 times a week. The people that help with account problems helped me so much and got me back on to my account on my phone very helpful indeed the cafe is amazing and very nice new staff and was very kind to me because I was very polite and waited patiently for my turn to order thank you Meadowside for making me feel so welcome here

Negative experience: Used to be OK. Now very rude on reception and despite paying for 30 minute lesson, in reality it lasts 25 in best case. Water is often turbid especially in the evening. Kids got barely any space to swim as there can easily be up to 12 people in 2mx10m pool section. Parking system is ridiculous. If any alternative becomes available I will swap.

Fantastic experience: Lovely staff behind the counter at Burton meadowside. They are always so helpful especially The person with glasses on I think their name is Max! Today they had to deal with a horrible person and handled it so well even though the customer was way out of line.
