PureGym Reading Caversham Road

Fantastic experience: Brilliant no frills gym, handy for the town centre and the train station. Equipment relatively new and staff really friendly and helpful. Free weights, cardio and small studio on the ground floor; resistance machines, a small weights area, changing rooms and a larger studio on the first floor. Lift accessible, with accessible toilets and shower. Free weight areas are a little cramped, but otherwise does the job very nicely

The toilets and showers are also very well-maintained. I particularly appreciate the way the gym is structured, with an impressive amount of space dedicated to the free weights area. Well done to the entire team!

Fantastic experience: I am a PT myself and this gym is right 2 mins away from my house. I wanted to try sometimes to go there and just have a quick workout session. I went to this gym and it turned out a great gym for me with all the good variety of machines and equipments they have. They just need to have Hack Squat, T bar row machine and Pendulum squat. Great environment and friendly staff. I’ll be continuing with my membership in there

Negative experience: The sport water machine is always out of flavour, too crowded and they have constant problems with the showers, drags are dealt in the men's room mostly at night, but the staff are friendly and helpful...and the water massage chairs are phenomenal!!!!

Negative experience: 4 hour cancellation policy really? They suspended all my classes that I had planned for the week! I cancelled a few classes just under 4 hours and with classes having loads of spaces left! Find a better gym with a more realistic cancellation policy!

Positive experience: Gym atmosphere and equipments are good. One problem is that some equipments are on ground floor and some are on up. If someone wants to target a mix of muscles then you have to keep changing the floors.

Fantastic experience: Bodytone 9.15 Wednesday Yet another fantastic class with Hayley This is a consistently great class with uplifting music and a series of exercises to reach all body parts! Hayley is a true professional, knowledgeable, friendly and fun and always aware of the different ability levels in the class often challenging us with a little something new just to keep us on our toes! Thanks Hayley Love your class and would definitely give it an 11 out of 10

Fantastic experience: Good gyn. Spacious, clean and all the staff are friendly and welcoming. The manager, Ron Is friendly and always chirpy and happy to see people, he goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. His spin classes are worth the membership fee on their own. Although my legs are telling me a different story after a 45 minute belter of a spin class.. the thing is, you’ll do it again because his classes are so good. Get on it, it won’t disappoint. Positive experience: Really good class this morning

Negative experience: Even they don't deserve one star I went to the gym on Sunday it was closed without any notice I believe because of Christmas there are days it will be closed you have to give membership notice

Fantastic experience: Instructors are really good here, and yoga teachers are also amazing. My favorite are Ron Simpson and Lawrence Jobson for cycling and Kiki Zhang for yoga. The gym has all the needed basics, the price is also fair. I would say only mats could be a bit better, and adding a couple more of the most popular machines (for instance, the assisted pull up machine). But I’m happy with everything else.

Negative experience: Just a heads up, be careful when cancelling or freezing membership. They remove the option around 5 days earlier than your next bill date, taking your money for an extra month! it’ll be the last month I pay though,as thanks to this I won’t freeze my account but cancel it so Puregym doesn’t take more money from me!! enough So paying fee + extra month.. not that cheap at the end for what they offer.. Crowded and dirty! Even a queue to leave… Not recommended

Positive experience: Small busy gym. It is OK for the UK, but the rating is in comparison to other parts of the world. I am from Australia.

Positive experience: Cancelled membership after some months using it. They have a lot of machines but place is extremely busy, so you have to wait to use some of them, there is no staff around, no cleaning in any of machine or weights. Massage chairs don't even work. I like using the classes but almost all sundays and late friday were moved to middle of the day which is really inconvient for me as I finish work at 7pm. And to be honest and I never saw any changes in my body after 6 months of going to the gym 3 times per week. I have bought some weights and doing exercise at home, after 1 month, I can already see some difference in my body. So classes are not well thought.

Positive experience: Lovely staff but one of the PT’s Raoul Harding had a rude attitude towards me and made me very uncomfortable with his stares from across the room. I wouldn’t recommend him as a PT with that attitude he gave to someone so unnecessarily

Negative experience: This gym is getting progressively worse as the months pass. Good selection of equipment but overcrowded and full of kids hanging around in groups. It’s being used as a hangout which makes it difficult to use any equipment unless I come after 10pm. Gym cleanliness is very poor and smells bad. Safety is falling as well, no one puts their equipment back so you constantly have to watch your step to avoid injury.

Negative experience: Been here for a while but the service really gone worse- the lady’s changing room’s hygiene is awful, there has been a giant hole on the wall for a while, and the shelf in front of the mirror has broken recently, none of them are taken care of.

Negative experience: I find it quite annoying when you’re at the studio and you get stopped mid workout because there’s a scheduled class on. I don’t get a chance in the studio because I finish work at 5 and then there’s multiple classes scheduled after, so doesn’t help with people that want to do their own workout in the studio after work, and don’t necessarily find it convenient to do my workout late when the classes have finished

Fantastic experience: I want to thank "Luke", one of the managers at Puregym in Caversham, Reading. He is the best! He found my water bottle, the other day and made my day. He answers all the questions kindly and patiently. Thank you, Luke :)

Negative experience: Too busy. Can never get on the machine to finish my sessions as other people keep asking to share in between which I dont like as I have to keep wiping other people sweats and rush myself. Management should look into this.

Negative experience: Extremely busy, probably x2 of what one would already consider busy. No well maintained space, air conditioners dripping on you during workouts... It is overused.

Fantastic experience: I had an issue with my pin and Ron was amazing at Reading gym. I was made to feel like a valued member of the gym and my pin issue was resolved very quickly within a professional manner. Thanks Ron you were brilliant.

Fantastic experience: PureGym Caversham. First trip here as Basingstoke Road closed for refurb. Impressed. Like the layout. Interesting clientele - different to the Basingstoke OG gang for sure. Equipment and machines well placed. Functional area small and tight. Lots of equipment. Changing rooms a treck upstairs around the houses - bit like being in IKEA. Yeah. Like it. Bonus factor - a lot of posturing and questionable clothing. Hey, it’s the upper class part of Reading right? Good gym. Good atmosphere. Recommended. Ample parking out the back.

Positive experience: 10x better than the Basingstoke Road branch. However… as with all PureGyms, the spray bottles are always empty. And having minimal staff/automated services really does not work.

Positive experience: Value for money. And if you go at the right times of the day, not crowded

Fantastic experience: I lost my AirPods case in the gym around 22:00 pm 19th May it was a case in one of the treadmills and has 1 right AirPod if anyone has found it could they please contact me

Positive experience: If Caversham Road one entrance almost inaccessible to pedestrians. Hence didn't join.

Fantastic experience: Best one of their gyms I’ve been to. Clean and tidy. Plenty of equipment. Staff very friendly. Loads of parking space. Doesn’t smell like a lot of the other ones

Negative experience: Massage chairs never worked. Spray bottles always empty. Ceiling always leaking. Had to walk through a pitch black alley way to get to the gym. Didn't feel safe. Cancelled membership.

Negative experience: I don’t understand what I’m paying for any more. I’ve been using this gym for many years and I currently pay the most expensive membership which includes access to the flavoured water machine and daily use of the massage chair. For many months now, the water machines aren’t always flavoured. I don’t know whether there are capsules that need to be replaced or something? The massage chairs also seem to be out of order quite a lot of the time. The water fountain on the upper level has been out of order for many months. Considering the gym sent me an email saying that they were increasing my monthly membership, I would expect standards to be somewhat maintained rather than slip so much.

Positive experience: It's ok a little small and the classes aren't well timed and the variety of classes is a bit poor too the free parking is only for 3 hours and is hard to get to since you can only turn into it form one direction.

Fantastic experience: A decent size place with lots of necessary equipment. The environment always motivates you to go an extra mile.

Positive experience: Generally I go for the classes but recently too many classes are getting cancelled on the day, we get penalised for not cancelling 4hrs before a class but it's OK when they cancel. Now I don't bother booking till last minute because of this.

Negative experience: website does not work, does not let me login, I want to renew membership and get to gym but 2 days in a row I am unable to login. even forgot password does not work. poor experience

Negative experience: A place that attracts mostly male weirdos. No socks, shirtless sweaty, on smartphone hogging the equipment, man love talking and not allowing others. Racist - in Poole, going after 1 Asian person about cleaning station. Despite complaining, no feedback, follow up.

Negative experience: The announcement was that there the staff from PureGym Caversham will ensure there is more cleaning done during the Reading Festival. The bathroom looks horrible...litter is not being picked, but left to one side...the mirrors area is filthy, so are the sinks and the toilets...also the floor is full of hair everywhere...how is this even hygienic?! I can say that this is not professional at all...especially that the bathroom check looks like it has been "done" every hour, it is a joke.

Negative experience: Terrible hygiene, having 0 staff doesn't work. Pic related is a toe nail that has been in the same place since I started coming here 3 months ago. Also whoever moved the machines around late August is a legit dumbo- good job putting the cleaning area in literally the busiest part of the downstairs, that's sure to incentivise your customers to clean up their sweaty benches. Positive experience: Good place for people to do the gym and physical exercise. There have sufficient parking spaces. Also, you can reach city centre and railway station with throwing stone distance.

Positive experience: It's a PureGym. Enough equipment for all your fitness needs - for the size, very well equipped and well maintained. Slightly let down by the toilets but that's most due to people being nasty.

Negative experience: As some must have experienced, 1 day I was doing legs upstairs, next to me sit 2 big ladies that did nothing but talk n play with their phone. At some point I got off the leg press and was resting, she jumped on it so she could talk to her friend doing triceps. I allowed it for a while and then stood next to her looking at her for her to move. She looked at me several times but pretended nothing was going on and continued. I got her attention and asked to finish my workout. She answered by ranting and raving and went to make a complaint. ( that I was intimidating and stoking them.) Result: I got suspended. All I have to say is: I have moved to a better gym that caters for people staying fit, not 1 that does manipulative people's dirty work Discussed.

Fantastic experience: I love puregym, my go to gym. Fully equipped gym with friendly staff. I always work out here and I enjoy it. I feel at home at the gym.

Positive experience: Gym, necessary place for new age lifestyle. I joined caversham branch coz its nearby. It has huge parking space to park your car however I walk as it takes only 3 mins. Lots and lots of equipment you can choose, multiple areas of cardio, functional, hardcore and sessions. Trainers are professional and helpful however if there would be multiple trainers then it would be good ( only minus point I can say). Overall its great for your health and affordable on your budget as it starts with just £15 per month. Stay fit, stay blessed!!! Cheers to life!!!

Positive experience: Solid gym. Sometimes when the gym is full it can get a bit stuffy, so I'm wondering if there's a way to enhance ventilation, especially since there's a gigantic garage door where the gym is? Thanks

Positive experience: This review would be 5 stars as the equipment is great and the staff are friendly and efficient. However, recently the number of cleaning stations has halved which is especially an issue in the weights section. Barely anyone is cleaning down the equipment. This was not an issue when there was a cleaning station in the middle of the weights section. Though a reduction in paper waste may be a plus, the flipside is that the cleanliness gets worse. With the new Covid variant it would be good to feel safe again in the gym. A good gym, just a lack of cleaning stations!

Negative experience: Gyms constantly a mess with weights left on the floor to trip over all over the place. Dirty they have taken away cleaning stations so the equipment can not be cleaned down before or after use. And customer service is truly awful no one gets back to you when you make a complaint absolutely awful stay away

Fantastic experience: A great gym with lots of equipment and space. Great classes too! The only downside is how crowded it gets on weekday evenings.

Negative experience: Very poor ventilation, the air is hot and the gym smells. Classes are fun, but if you feel sick the PT are not qualified/willing to help. Just felt as I was about to faint on a class, because it was too hot in the room. Had to leave the class and head to the locker room to put my feet up trying to recover. Another PT saw that I was in trouble on the locker room, went to the toilet, fixed her hair on the mirror, asked me if I wanted water, I said no and she just left me alone. No further help, I was left alone with my feet up about to faint. I'm very disappointed with this behaviour and wouldn't recommend this gym.

Positive experience: It's a clean, straightforward, well equipped gym. Only criticism is it could do with a few more staff. There's barely anyone there when I go. For all that though it works well as an automated system.
