Negative experience: Despite the sign saying the sauna will be closed at 10 i was informed today by a staff member that they have changed it a few mths ago to 9:45. My whole purpose of joining is around the sauna, and they can’t even keep it open until their sign, despite having thousands of members??! I am very disappointed!
Negative experience: Good-sized gym; however, machines are not maintained, and you have to come with your own attachments for cable machines.

Negative experience: I am here at jds it had gone really bad as I joined back again suanna.is very dirty think it ain't bin cleaned since 2years ago the whole wood inside bits machines are really bad the gripps are coming of which is dangerous the amount money that is made at this gym the standard is very low really bad now you will get a answer back they are rally sorry but nothing is done like always why is this why is nothing fixed

Negative experience: Matt the general manager clearly got bullied at school and is on a powertrip as he likes to suspend accounts for no reason. Doesn’t listen to any reason just wants to feel important for a minute. All the other staff at the gym are lovely apart from Matt.

Positive experience: Its a nice gym.but they should really consider putting the music volume down after 9 pm as people like us who work 5 days a week can't handle loud noises at the gym

Negative experience: Gym is ok, fairly big with a lot of equipment but does get very busy even outside of peak times. Just a few things to consider if you’re looking to sign up. Not many extras or benefits to membership, no friends pass, not many classes and the ones that are there are first come first serve. Cancelling is a nightmare, you’re asked not to cancel your direct debit and have to raise a cancellation form on their website, re-entering all your details and reason for leaving and must wait for a response which can take up to 28 days. I got my response on the 28th day saying that my cancellation form did not meet the requirements but then they wouldn’t specify why over email. Their phone lines are heavily automated and have few actual staff members. Eventually I just cancelled my direct debit as id given over a months notice to leave and now I repeatedly get texts to resolve my membership payments. Long story short, this gym membership may not be as flexible as they like to make it look!

Positive experience: A gym that has everything ya need no matter ya programme. Extremely busy at peak times and can be hard to get on equipment. So perhaps not the gym for you if that’d be a big issue or inflexible with times.

Negative experience: Good rang of equipment but the everything seems very run down and the place is dirty and needs a good clean. Free weights all over the floor and not put back correctly which makes it very hard to do a workout. The App does not tell you how many people are using the gym so you are unable to check if the gym is busy. Staff not cleaning or tidy up.

Positive experience: Gym is bang average and would probably say the gym is better quality for a gym, certainly far better squat racks which is surprising. The place seems to be falling apart, shower doors hanging off and struggle to shut them, my last visit the shower was broke and wouldn’t turn off. I couldn’t find a single person in sight to report it to. And finally… as a disabled person having had quite a bad traffic accident and now a permanently damaged ankle. I have a disabled badge to use disabled parking but I am lucky that I have managed to park but only because I go to the gym at 6am. 4/5 cars no badge, not disabled. Seems to be selfish lazy people taking up a space that they shouldn’t be and JD Gym does nothing about it. I couldn’t imagine what it’s like at peak time, I should imagine people don’t go because of this.

Fantastic experience: Clean, well-equipped gym that's open 24/7. There's staff on hand if you need help and they have a roster of personal trainers you can hire. I'd not been to a gym for over a decade when I joined and was shown around the facility and how to use various of the machines.

Negative experience: Health and safety hazard at night. I was at the gym at night with no manager, supervisor or staff. There was only a cleaner on site. After using the bathroom, the padlock on the locker would not open so I was in the men changing room for over 40 mins without any help or solution. After 40mins 1 gym member came in and tried to help but was unsuccessful so he went out to look for a member of staff to help only to find there was no one except the cleaner who could not evidently help. I kept pulling the lock but unfortunately the door fell off. Instead of leaving it there, I did the right thing by taking the door to the cleaner, leaving my name and number and informing her I will pay for the cost of replacing the door. To my surprise, I received an email from Matt Hylton so called 'general manager' advising he has suspended my account for 'vandalism'. Clearly, he does not know what the word means and what circumstances it applies to. So I replied to correct him that vandalism is a criminal action with the intent to damage. Mine was to remove the padlock and access my belongings. Moreso I reported the issue and left my details. He still insisted and stood by the suspension without fair hearing. He even encouraged me to cancel my direct debit. The next day I went to the gym to see him, he was very aggressive, rough and threatened to call the police on me. I told him I will report this to the chain on command and he said he does not care and nothing will happen. I finally received an email from him saying his 'decision' is final and closed. We will see how the managers respond before taking it further.

Negative experience: Been a few times before the fire few weeks ago. Payed £21.00 for the month. Went during 11pm and midnight most machines had out of order on them. And then they closed for abit due to electricity fault so couldn't go during my usual times but still charged me. Place is clean but machines are out of order more than visitors. Signed up elsewhere

Negative experience: Total failure, I wonder if all gyms are like this, the lack of equipment stinks terribly, and when I canceled my membership, they only responded after three weeks. And many others.

Negative experience: DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM- MY ITEM WAS STOLEN IN THE CHANGING ROOM AND STAFFS DIDN'T BOTHER TO HELP ME. my towel was stolen while I was in the sauna. I approached a member of the staff for assistance, they informed me that there were no towels available, which left me feeling quite uncomfortable. However, the real disappointment came when I left the changing room and discovered that towels were available in a vending machine. I couldn't understand why the staff had not offered me this option when I clearly needed a towel. When I asked for an explanation, the staff did not provide a reasonable response. It was the worst customer service I have ever had.

Negative experience: Im 16 years old and I brought my 13 year old sister to the gym with me for a gym session not knowing you had to be 16 I thought I could supervise her since I was 16. We were doing our workout and a staff member (Matt) came up to us and said he was doing checks he asked to see our QR codes which is perfectly fine he then went on to say that I had “scammed” my little sister in with me and we had used the same Qr code. When I payed for her membership earlier on this day and the accounts had two different names. (I also proved this) After this he asked how old my sister was and then because she was underage she had to leave the gym which is understandable. He then said to me that Im underage as-well and that I need to bring in id to prove I’m 16 . I am not underage I have been going to this gym for a month and I have never been questioned about my age once . He then asked for my date of birth I told him 24/12/2006 and then he still told me to leave the gym he then said to my little sister how long have you been using my Qr code for. Again accusing us of not having two memberships. Matt did this in front of everyone in the gym he didn’t take us to his office or pull us aside this was a complete lack of respect. It was embarrassing and you would think that Matt would have the decency to pull us aside. JD gym clearly needs training in staff professionalism as I made a genuine mistake and then was treated like a criminal. I’ve cancelled my membership and I’m very disappointed with JD gym.

It is stated in our Terms and Conditions that all members must be 16 or older for health and safety purposes, and our joining portal will prevent anyone under 16 from signing up, so incorrect details must have been provided when she signed up which goes against our rules. We do routinely check member profiles and will ask for the ID of any member who looks under 16, this is entirely for safety purposes and is not intended as segregation or unfair treatment. If your membership has been temporarily blocked due to this, please bring ID with you next time you visit and our team will be more than happy to reactivate your account. Negative experience: Filled in the cancellation form, 14 days later I was informed that I would be charged for another month of access. I told them that I did not want another month and to not charge me. I did not hear back and was still charged. The gym is average, but the anti-consumer practices and poor customer service are one star.

Negative experience: I was not given access today at 00:30 on 07 October 2023 when I went to gym as my QR code did not work. Unlike others my work schedules does not allow me to join a day gym, so I preferred this one at Derby. But it's a clear dissapointment and they have terrible management. Infact, there was no manager in the night other than cleaner. After 20 minutes of showing all proofs of membership, the cleaner called her manager and I spoke to "Shannon" on call but he asked me to come in the day time or when managers are there, instead of resolving my issue and giving me an access. Complete waste of my time in the middle of the night, when I assumed it's a 24/7 gym and JD Gyms respect their clients.It's a terrible experience and the I am not a person to create drama, but this kind of disrespect was overboard for me! I have claimed for refund, but these people have been playing with my refund and I still have not received. I still am waiting for all the charges they took from me!
Negative experience: There is no parking for disabled people, they have 5 parking spaces but always full by non disabled, very poor service will never renew when my membership ends

Negative experience: Average budget gym but very poorly run and maintained. Having been a member for less than a month I've seen around 4/5 machines being placed out of order or not working correctly. Weights are often left all over the place (not sure what the members of staff actually do here when they are not taking classes). There needs to be some more investment into lower body equipment too. - you'll find yourself having to wait for leg machines most the time and all machines are pretty low quality. If your goal is just to build muscle as opposed to general fitness I would definitely look elsewhere

Positive experience: Good value for money. Unfortunately theres only one cold shower. The water in the showers only runs for a few seconds before you have to press it again. Apart from this its a decent gym with pleny of car parking and gym equipment.

We do offer the one cold shower, mainly for those who enjoy using it in conjunction with the sauna. The rest are regular warm showers. Negative experience: Equipment frequently broken, only one or two well trained PTs, rest are evidently not very knowledgable so wouldn’t waste your money with them. As for management, ignorant, rude and grossly inappropriate. Don’t treat the few good trainers/instructors there are fairly. Cancel classes last minute and doesn’t update members in advance.

Negative experience: Apparently the jd gyms derby staff room has set on fire tonight, i understand that this is an accident however, if the gym isnt open by the 30th of October, surely we must receive compensation as i am paying for a membership that should be available for whenever i want, i get accidents happen but now i am left with no gym to go to whilst paying a membership, i just want a reply to be honest and to know what is going to happen going forward.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member at this gym for a few years now, there is a huge range of machines, weights and classes that cater for all. The trainers/staff here are friendly, motivated, approachable and a credit to this place making it incredibly enjoyable to go! Great atmosphere everyday at this gym. They have a sauna, shower facilities, clean and modern changing rooms with lockers for your personal belongings, 3 different studio set ups for classes (which you can use when there’s no classes). I have met some amazing people through this gym both staff and members. Shout out to staff Yassin, Anna, Priscilla, Jordan and Steve. You are an absolute credit to this place! Just one little heads up - Take your flipflops for the showers as the floors in there often smell slightly of urine.

Negative experience: Went for first time on 22/1/23 as soon as I walked in I felt very uncomfortable there was no staff around there was no spray or cloth to wipe equipment before or after you have used it . All the equipment is so close together it good job it no contract as I won't be going back

Positive experience: Still not a 24h/7day gym as advertised but I have been told it will be around the 3rd week of December (around the 19th of December) Really good gym though!

Fantastic experience: Great Gym, nice and clean loads of equipment. Good parking overall for the price really good, won't be for you if you want posh swimming pools and jacuzzi it's a budget gym
Fantastic experience: Nice place, lots of space for everyone, there is no problem with the place, everyone will find something for themselves.
Fantastic experience: Great club, lots of freeweights, no contract and even a sauna in the changing room.

Positive experience: On my first day here my QR code didn't work so I pressed the button. A guy came along who needs customer service training snatched my phone off me and then it worked and just said here you go. That was my first experience of the place so not a great start. The gym seems well equipped and the layout is OK. Missing items on some of the resistance machines. No induction So you just have to figure it out. The gym is so busy in the mornings, so much so I had to wait a number of times to get on anything. To be honest I've found the experience a little overwhelming and having 2nd thoughts about carrying on at JD gyms.
Positive experience: Very busy and equipment is braking down and takes too long to fix it.
Negative experience: Brilliant space. Brilliant price. Two of the PTS showing a sterling example of how to injur yourself today by doing a tandem deadlift with 300kg loaded. Imagine two noobs seeing this example. Idiots
Fantastic experience: Very good gym, i feel comfortable there
Negative experience: I became a member of JD Gym 4 months ago, 2 months ago due to distance I emailed asking if I could terminate my membership, not one member got back to me for another 2 months and now they’ve finally decided to get back to me they’re saying I’ve got to pay the finish month of the membership which should of been last month if they had actually bothered to respond to me bare in mind all of these months I’ve used the gym once it’s appalling how long it takes them to even consider your queries
Positive experience: Gym has amazing and helpful staff, although it gets a bit packed out from 6-8pm each day, you'd be hard pressed to find a machine during these times, I'd recommend any other times for your workout. Other than that, I like the number of bench presses and squat racks available compared to other local gyms.
Negative experience: Over crowded machines are almost always rammed. They only have 1 bag and if something breaks it takes them almost half a year to replace/mend. Waste of time and money both. I have been to JD brum and its awesome and upto standards mostly.
Negative experience: Always pack , not enough machines in peak time ,to smelly , not worth the money
Fantastic experience: Very good equipment plenty of everything
Positive experience: Too many people in at peak times and very difficult to find available equipment. They do offer Alot of classes though that are of varying intensity, staff are helpful and friendly, the monthly fee is quite low too so could be worth if if you can go off peak.
Positive experience: It's not 24h/7day- false advertising. I will give 5☆ If they will buy few more new equipments like hack squat machine, standing calf raise machine, triceps/chest deep press machine, new ropes for biceps/triceps and definitely play better music, something for workout not techno party gym its clean, very friendly staff, and not so busy even on mondays international chest day heheh.
Fantastic experience: Good gym if you pick the right times
Fantastic experience: Just joined as a new member from a previous gym which I quit because of how busy it was during peak times( very few people using cardio equipment) since I'm only interested in weights I feel like I've made a perfect switch. It can be busy but people are spread out with a large portion of people using cardio equipment. It has many weight benches and always readily available. When I joined I was told it had plans to become a 24 hour gym which I think would be a perfect addition.
Negative experience: NOT ENOUGH EQUIPMENT TO HANDLE PEAK TIMES. I often find myself in a que of five or more People waiting to use one piece of equipment. When I do eventually get on the equipment that I want to use I am constantly asked how many more sets I have left after spending ten minutes or more looking for plates.
Positive experience: Not as well thought out as you’d expect upon first look. Little things completely overlooked making it less enjoyable then it should be.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, plenty of good equipment for all workouts, definitely would recommend
Positive experience: Lots of equipment and very reasonably priced. Very busy though.
Fantastic experience: Using this gym for nearly 2 years, never had any issue. Friendly ,helpful staff. Good choice of classes ( enough for me ) , lots of easy to use equipment. Only one little "but " is the car park, could be more organised and for a gym members and staff ONLY. Xx

Fantastic experience: Second time working out at JD gym and I cannot fault it! Amazing friendly staff, the classes are awesome, really motivational and so much equipment. Also! Thank you for all the staff helping me set a bee free that had got trapped by the front door. That's A* environmental service!
Negative experience: This gym really needs more of certain equipment. There's is only one pec dec machine in the whole gym and the squat racks are ALWAYS busy
Negative experience: WHY DOES BRITISH LAW ALLOW FINANCIAL SCAMS LIKE THIS? On receipt of notification that I was having my membership transferred from Exercise4less, I mailed them back advising that I did not wish to take up the offer. I cancelled my direct debit to Harlands, but still my details were used to set up a membership. Four payments were taken before I realised this. Despite several attempts to resolve this, I was almost totally blanked by them. I have referred this to Trading Standards, with no success. A sad reflection on British Law!!! DO NOT TOUCH THIS COMPANY!!!
Positive experience: Big gym,equipment is alright,music could be play louder,in overall is good
Positive experience: Sometimes I feel pushed out by the serious weight trainers and feel there isn't enough space for me to do a smaller weight training session...other than that it is what it says on the tin.
Fantastic experience: Great range of equipment, good space and a great membership and exercise class option.
Positive experience: Very nice facility, all equipment is high quality and in good condition. However, after 2021 reopening it's mostly overcrowded.
Positive experience: Plenty of machines, free weights and friendly staff! Only reason for 4 star is the weights are all over the place no matter what time of day you go, if the personal trainers and the rest of the team put them all back in the right place
Fantastic experience: Great gym, always busy but there are so many machines and weights it's never really an issue getting on what you want. Changing rooms are clean and staff are always welcoming. For the price it's the best gym I've found in Derby
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym. Well maintained and the staff are really friendly. Can’t recommend it enough. The only downside is the god awful music. I’ve got noise cancelling headphones and I can still hear Ibiza 96 wherever you are.
Positive experience: Crowded at times, I don't think there is member cap
Negative experience: In normal circumstances, I would like this gym more than I do. It is spacious and has plenty of equipment. However, I 100% agree with other comments I've seen that this gym is not Covid safe. There was very little effort put in to adapt to the current situation. All they've done was to put some disinfectant and tissues here and there, but it's all down to people to have the initiative to clean the equipment. I haven't seen any of the staff on the floor to reinforce that. Unfortunately, this was a big turn off for me and cancelled my membership after only 1 week. Other gyms have done a lot more to adapt to the current pandemic, so I assume that reflects the level of the management at JD gyms. LE: Trying to cancel the membership proves to be an impossible task. The communication from this gym is absolutely appalling. I tried contacting the number and the email address that they put in the contract and ask members to contact in case of cancellation and NONE of them go through. The phone number is not being answered and the email address comes back with an auto-reply saying it's not being monitored. And when I cancelled my direct debit with my bank, they quickly sent a text to ask me to contact the SAME phone number and email address to re-instate my DD in case I cancelled it by mistake. I mean, the audacity is at a different level.
