Fantastic experience: I've been a member for a few years - post covid you could have a hot shower there when you couldn't in public pools! - and it's genuinely been life changing for me! Regular exercise in an environment I enjoy has been so positive. I particularly love the pool facilities - including the jacuzzi. The staff are helpful and friendly, it's clean, there is always plentiful hot water. Members are the whole range of ages - but it tends to be a fun and friendly environment. Yes, it costs a lot, but I go daily - so for me it works out as good value for money. Whether it's worth joining depends on how much you use it.

Positive experience: We used David Lloyds Oxford for 1 year (12 months contract) and found it to be a nice gym but too expensive for us (~£90/person after corporate discount and couples discount). The gym itself is nice, plenty of equipment and it has a swimming pool/jacuzzi/sauna however everything shuts at 9:30 even though it says closing time is 10pm. If you work until 6pm like me, then get home and cook/eat and relax a bit before going to the gym it would already be 8:30 sometimes before I get to the gym. For how expensive it is, I think it should have a longer opening time. Also, a 12 month contract is really long! We moved house half way so the gym was further from us but we couldn't stop the membership because it's 12 months. Overall, if you use the gym regularly, the opening time works for you, and you use the swimming pool/sauna facilities it might be worth it for you. For us, it wasn't worth the price (which, isn't mentioned anywhere on their website).

Negative experience: This club is in major need of a refurbishment. The front staff and instructors are great but the actual equipment and the gym it's-self is very old. The other gyms in the same tier have newer gym equipment, better class/court facilities and nicer spa facilities. A few of these clubs have also undergone major refurbishments in the time that I have been a member at Oxford and I think it's a bit strange that the Oxford club hasn't, given that it is more outdated than any of these ones were. Unfortunately it's the only gym with these facilities that has easy access from the ring road which is one of the benefits. I find that the gym is also far too busy and feels overcrowded unless you go before 9am or after 7pm. The showers and changing rooms are also not as clean as you would expect... It's a shame as I feel like there is a lot of potential.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely thrilled with my experience at David Lloyd! From the moment I walked in, Rebecca made me feel welcome and supported. Rebecca was incredibly knowledgeable and always took the time to answer any questions and provided a seamless joining process. The facilities are well-maintained, clean and equipped with everything I need for my workouts. Fantastic experience: I have been a member of DL Oxford since 2016 and I consider this place as my happy place.The gym helped me get through a very tough time. I suffered from a stroke and I gradually gained back my strength, confidence and self love through hard work and dedication. This gym has a friendly atmosphere. The staff are polite and helpful, always greet you with a smile. The instructors are all brilliant, there are varieties of classes from high energy to calming exercises so there’s always something for everyone. The food is great too and I can easily spend 4 hours just staying at the place. I have so many positive things to say but to sum it up I just want to say thank you because this is one of the places I always look forward going to and I just love it!

Negative experience: Nice place if they could keep it up. Something in the Spa is always broken and the place needs a refurbishment as many small things broken or in bad shape.

Negative experience: Terrible club. After 6 years, I cancelled my membership. The equipment and facilities are dated and not reflective of the membership cost. Spa facilities are regularly out of service and dirty. My biggest issue is the customer service and sales department. They are rude and unhelpful. My car has been damaged multiple times - always very reluctant to help. When deciding to cancel my membership, you have to email them first. It took over a month for somebody to respond to my emails, which ended up with me finally being allowed to cancel 3 months after I requested it! Would not recommend

Positive experience: The Oxford site is well equipped and offers plenty of space. What makes it a better experience is the staff at reception and bar, two members have really impressed me and my family. Erjon at reception and Iryna in the bar, always smiling and supper friendly and professional.

Negative experience: I spent over 1 hour to look at the membership prices but they didn’t make it clear it’s a wasting of time. And thank God that I didn’t see the price, after reading the reviews and see some photos from inside the shower area and many other photos everywhere it shows how bad and awful and unhygienic to be in , you would catch lots of germs , And bribing people with a free coffee to leave 5 star review. I think this place has to be reported to the council to have it shutdown .

Fantastic experience: Why are people running down David loyd cowley. Yes it has a few tiny issues but the teams are always cleaning. Fixing issues. And as for the classes, all the instructors are proffesional and very friendly. Also reception staff are friendly and always smiling.. keep it up gang. its a thumbs up from me.

Negative experience: Avoid at all costs. The manager Galina or Alina is very rude. She does need some people skills. I traveled here to find sauna not working. This place everything seems to be getting broken slowly. The manager needs to be sacked she can’t be talking to customers like that. I asked her for the email address and she gave me wrong one on purpose what the hell is this. If this lady wanted a job I would not hire her in a rush. Utter total waste of space and time !!!! Rude lady talks like a man!
Fantastic experience: Have had family membership for a couple of years and really get the most out of it - regular kids clubs with different activities and friendly staff mean I go to the gym at least 50% more often than I would otherwise. Great kids’ swimming lessons with small groups and really nice teachers. Pool is pleasant and a very decent size. Gym is huge and equipment is mostly in a good state. Not cheap, but good value if you use it a lot.

Fantastic experience: The club has a really friendly atmosphere and the staff are always welcoming and helpful. There are lots of great classes with excellent instructors such as zumba, barre and master swim. I would definitely recommend the club.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of David Lloyd for five years and have had an excellent experience throughout. My daughter loves the kids club and the wide range of activities they offer, from Lego building, sports, and crafting, to drawing, tennis, swimming, and lessons. I often work in the café area and make use of the facilities before, during, and after work. It's a lovely club with friendly, helpful staff and excellent gym instructors. The club offers a variety of classes, from cycle classes and yoga to family-oriented sports like Blaze Rebels cross-training and Spirit, a mix of Pilates, yoga, and balance exercises. Fantastic experience: We have been members of David Lloyd for a few years now. It’s a great friendly club. We have been doing tennis lessons with Constantin B since she started at the club making progress over the time. Constantin works on all areas, building up skills at the appropriate levels and abilities. We come week in week out and it’s always fun with fantastic coaches. Definite love for tennis and all aspects of fitness and well being. Recommend 100%

Fantastic experience: Constantin is one of the few tennis coaches I’ve found who can talk equally well about mental as well as technical aspects of the game. Some joke he talks too much, but explaining some of his complex ideas takes listening to, and the explanations have definitely improved my self-awareness. I’ve learned a lot and value our conversations for application outside tennis too. I eventually found he can listen well; I believe in all coaching the client is king/queen; they ideally know what they want to achieve even if they cannot easily explain it straightaway.

Fantastic experience: Was in the area doing a local race - coincidentally the DL was next door to our hotel so we visited for breakfast with the kids - great outdoor space for them (something my home club doesn't have) and great soft play inside as well. Friendly and welcoming staff - facilities looked good as well.

Negative experience: The David Lloyd Club is very run down (See attached photos). They are now bribing people to give a 5 star review for a free coffee ( see last photo) The tennis head coach is very poor, and tennis has gone to an all new low since he took over and the social scene gone. Club management has said the way the club looks should not impact your experience, and as you can see from photos, it does. The roof in men's changing room is dripping water and should get checked for legionnaires. All this and much more have been sent to management and very little has been done.

Fantastic experience: Been gagging to get the best possible experience out of a gym membership and David Lloyd clubs is the best around! A little on the pricy side so you might have to sell off a kidney to fund it but if health and fitness is important to you I think it’s a decent trade! I had Nik do my interview, a welcoming, charming and confident man who gave me the tour and went through my options. He came across as fun, confident, and knowledgeable, on top of all that he was handsome too! So if I had any doubts of joining before he managed to persuade me otherwise But in summary, a very professional and welcoming service from the whole team, reception was also really helpful in helping me with my locker code, smiles and all

Fantastic experience: As with any place, of course, there are improvements that could be made to the equipment available etc. But what you can’t fault here is the staff. From the managers, to the PTs, to those that work at the bar, to the cleaning team, everyone here is so friendly and welcoming. Other David Lloyds don’t have the friendly atmosphere that this one does. Gavin and Gonçalo lead a great team of people, who are always willing to help whatever query you have. Bruno is an asset to the Kids Club here, and all the instructors and PTs are happy to cater to whatever fitness level someone has. What a great club!

Positive experience: I have been a member of David Lloyd for a year now. I'm 58 and have never thought of myself as fit or sporty. I was nervous using the facilities at first, but I can honestly say the classes are so welcoming, for all levels, ages and abilities, they are thoroughly enjoyable and my fitness levels have gone up. The gym, pool and sauna/steam room are lovely, and I go as often as I can as it keeps me sane and happy. I feel physically and emotionally stronger and am so glad I made the move to join. The only reason I have given 4 and not 5 stars is because the cleanliness is good but not brilliant, and sometimes repairs take a while.

Fantastic experience: Went here to discuss a possible membership. I was helped by Rebeca, and she was so great! While I did not end up joining due to the short amount of time I would be in the area, Rebeca showed all the options and facilities in a very concise manner. She was a great reminder of what the service industry can be.

Negative experience: Scammers… It is so low of this place to deduct money from their customers like that. I went there first time to take a tour and enquire about the place and same day bought membership sadly. Later had to cancel the membership and informed the team but no reply from their side. So went second time to return the membership card and confirm face to face to cancel the membership. For these two visits they deducted £7 for free. Such low class behaviour. The sales manager was so ignorant to my emails when I demanded a clarification on this. Later they took about a whole month to give my refund and that too after writing so many emails and raising a dispute. Oh my god …so unprofessional and customer unfriendly. Hate this bad experience If you are talking about pro-rata fee then please mention that in your “right to cancel” statement. I explained my two visits and it’s clearly mentioned that the money could only be deducted if I have used any of the club services. Well it’s interesting how the famous club can stoop so low

Positive experience: A very good Club with good food but I don't like card only payments ... The Club is let down by members who can't be bothered to put their dirty towels in the bins provided choosing to leave them scattered over the changing benches

Negative experience: I’ve been a member of DL clubs for over 20 years and stayed a member despite price increases because I like the clubs and regular upgrades, community and generally pleasant staff and members. I have used clubs all over the country and am usually pleased with consistency in standards of the clubs. Unfortunately I had to comment for this club as the kitchen regularly closes early (2:30pm today?!), runs out of food/blended drinks, and the gym needs updating badly- lacking equipment, upholstery on the benches is dreadful, the changing rooms nor gym are clean, hand sanitiser is always missing. There also seems to be a widespread lack of staff presence in both the restaurant area (1 staff working hard but struggling to do everything herself) the gym (didn’t see any staff at all). The members of this club deserve serious investment in the restaurant area, facilities and hygiene. This is unfortunately the worst DL I’ve been to and I would not be able to recommend this club like I would other DL’s. I wouldn’t bring a guest here to try the club out, they would have a bad experience and probably wonder why I’m wasting my money by assuming this is the standard of all DL clubs when I know it is not.

Fantastic experience: Rebecca from David Lloyd’s Oxford was really helpful over the phone and told me all the options for my age range plus all the information I needed. She was also really lovely to talk to !

Negative experience: Unfortunately this club poses a HUGE HEALTH RISK. There is black mould EVERYWHERE!! Every single vent in the pool room is riddled with mould, it’s in the grouting on the floor, in the showers, in the toilets etc. To top it all off, the chlorine levels are so high and toxic that we both left with migraines and “chlorine cough”. Especially in the heated jacuzzi which everyone was complaining about because we were all sat there and the chlorine was so bad that our eyes were burning. Rust in all sorts of places, cleanliness is clearly not a priority here. We and other member friends of ours have complained about these things and we just get shrugged off clearly as nothing is being done. Absolutely disgusting that it’s in this state and nobody is doing anything. Do you not make enough money to hire proper cleaners and machines? What a let down.
Fantastic experience: Really nice club, till now I can say is the best place to go with kids and become a member, thinking I have 3 kids . So NICE PLACE AND ENVIROMENT TO GROW MY KIDS.

Negative experience: Getting banned from the club without any reason is totally unfair. And don't even get me started on their lack of communication. Manager (GAVIN) is like a ghost, impossible to find and talk to . It’s like playing hide and seek but without the fun, ya know? Seriously frustrating! I hope they sort things out soon because it's not cool to leave their members in the dark.
Negative experience: Used to come to this gym many years ago. it was great, £55 a month, clean, all the staff members was professional and friendly. 2 years back (2022) I wasn't thinking of going back. as I go pass it everyday for work, I noticed the building itself was tired and warn. Saw a new management sign. I put in a enquiry though the website, I had a lady call back. We spoke for a bit and when she told me its £150 a month! I gasped, said "no thanks, not for me" so I decided to look over the reviews to see if it has kept up to its standard from 2014 and if they did i would pay the £150 a month. NOPE! having a new management is NOT always a good thing by the looks of things from the reviews and Photos. For everyone do your research, save money and time.

Fantastic experience: Been going to the David Lloyd since feb specifically for the Blaze classes and I’ve never had a bad Blaze session no matter who the trainer is but just want to shoutout to Josias for always bringing the energy that makes me want to push myself. I also want to mention the ladies at the crèche who look after my little one and the level of care they provide. They are always positive when they greet me in the morning and are super helpful whenever I discuss what the baby needs that session.

Positive experience: Nice place nice atmosphere many activities for kids lovely trainers proper checks in and out safe place a lot of parking space swimming pool sauna jacuzzi etc… The reason of four star is only because most of the time many people staying in the phone and doesn’t allow others to use the machine and this make me personally boring because I can not finish my training like I want. Fantastic experience: In regards to sign up and joining: Aaron was very helpful and friendly and made the process a breeze. He gets the 5 stars for this whole review. He was so lovely and friendly and really was the reason we both decided to sign up. He’s definitely the friendliest and most professional staff member I’ve interacted with so far. Just a note: The facilities themselves could do with a facelift and would love to see some additional equipment added to the gym floor such as a glute drive and possibly some more free weights. Always seem to be fighting for the right dumbell weights as there isn’t a lot of them.

Negative experience: Good facilities but a bit like a 18-30 holiday club in the evenings. There was 40 people in the pool tonight, I counted two people actually swimming the rest all around 20yrs old were dive bombing into the pool, doing backflips off each others backs and shouting and yelling. There didn't seem to be any staff at all in the area or limit to how many people could come in, the sauna every inch was taken up with various people standing in the small space by the door. The changing room had begun to decend into complete chaos with large groups of men running around slapping eachother with towels etc. I'm all for a bit of fun but I come to relax not go back to a school changing room from 20yrs ago.

Negative experience: Please note reviewing primarily from a tennis perspective. I have been a member of the club for 2 and a half years. The best thing about the club is the tennis community, many of whom have now become good friends. I’m grateful to DL for this. If it wasn’t for this combined with geography (well positioned in respect to my home) I would have joined another tennis club by now. The tennis situation has been in particular decline. A selection of the problems: - Reduction in club sessions (without consultation of members) - leaking roof - Poor cleanliness of courts - Outdoor courts are in horrendous condition with my local village court being better - Availability of courts - very often courts are not available to book and then are empty or being used for non tennis related activities - No rackets manager Aside from this the club appears to not be led or managed well. I agree with reviews pointing to hygiene, maintenance (disabled lift has been broken for probably a year) and generally poor staff experiences (although this is not a broad brush swipe because there are several superb staff members). I’d also caution those reading reviews here to take some with a pinch of salt. Clearly if you have been given an initial brilliant deal to get you in, you will be viewing with those goggles. Linked to this, I know the club proactively asks for positive views - this is not a good sign! Reviews should be earnt, not asked for or bought. It’s much more valuable to pay attention to members who have tenure to paint a fuller, more accurate picture. Overall I would not recommend joining the club given the above. Fantastic experience: Smooth sign up experience. Came on a friends guest pass and was enticed to join. After speaking with a staff member (Aaron). He made the onboarding process as smooth as possible. Went from not to signed up in less than 10 minutes. Thanks again to Aaron

Fantastic experience: had a really fabtastic introduction to David Lloyd Oxford with Jon today. he was informative, humorous and most of all very patient with my slow tech skills. I also really appreciated his help with my understanding of the booking systems and great advice on which pt would be best suited to my age and fitness level. i also felt the family orientation of the club in the enthusiasm for my teen son to be abke to participate in tennis and swimming and appropriate classes. overall i hada vety positive first visit today.

Negative experience: Whilst i have enjoyed the recent purchase of a 2 week membership for £20 and have made full use of the facilities at oxford, I have been considering joining as a full member. The issue i have is that for over £100 per month i would expect to find the changing rooms & loos clean!.Mould on the shower walls and floors,overspilling towel bins and lack of general hygiene is certainly no justification for such a large joining fee either?? really dissapointing and has currently changed my mind about joining.....

Negative experience: I recently had an unfortunate experience at David Lloyd Oxford that compelled me to share my concerns. Firstly, I observed a disheartening situation where the duty manager and other staff members were openly laughing at the financial situations of some gym-goers. This unprofessional behavior creates an unwelcome environment for members. Furthermore, the presence of mold within the gym premises is a significant concern. Mold not only poses health risks but also reflects poorly on the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the facility. When attempting to address these issues and inquire about the responsible manager, I overheard a staff member claiming, "I’m the manager; you can’t report me." This lack of accountability within the management team is unsettling and raises questions about the professionalism and leadership at David Lloyd Oxford. In addition, I found it disconcerting that staff members approached me to provide reviews on the app, despite not contributing significantly to the quality of service. This calls into question the sincerity of the feedback received through the app and suggests a need for improvement in customer engagement practices. Overall, my experience has been disappointing, and I hope these concerns are addressed promptly to ensure a more positive and respectful environment for all members. As a long-term member, it's disheartening to witness a decline in the quality of service at David Lloyd Oxford over the years. Despite my loyalty, the issues persist, and the continuous increase in prices without corresponding improvements adds to the frustration. I would advise others to reconsider investing their time and money in this membership, as the value seems to be diminishing over time.

Seems the quick responses on public reviews are just for show As a longstanding member of David Lloyd, I feel compelled to acknowledge the exceptional dedication and talent of the instructors who truly make the club a positive and welcoming space. Their unwavering commitment to members, coupled with their expertise and enthusiasm, transforms workout sessions into enjoyable experiences. I commend them for holding the club together and fostering a positive atmosphere. Regrettably, the same level of praise cannot be extended to the management. It appears that their primary focus is on maintaining a positive online image, often neglecting critical issues within the gym. The recurring problems in the spin studio are a constant source of frustration. Bikes in a perpetual state of disrepair and frequent microphone failures disrupt the workout flow, indicate a concerning lack of attention to equipment upkeep Additionally, the presence of mould in the toilets and showers is unacceptable for an establishment that claims to provide a premium environment. Clean and sanitary facilities should be a basic expectation, not a luxury. Also, the discovery that management may be using staff to artificially boost online reviews is disheartening. Genuine member feedback should be the driving force behind improvements, rather than relying on artificially inflated scores. However, the popular instructors, consistently filling classes, should not be pressured to push reviews. Their sustained success should speak for itself. In conclusion, a shift in management's focus is crucial. Prioritising club maintenance, addressing issues promptly, and treating staff better should take precedence over a singular obsession with acquiring 'good reviews.' By fostering a healthy and functional environment, positive reviews will naturally follow. The members appreciate the hard work of the instructors and staff, it's time for management to do the same.

Negative experience: What’s it going to take to get the mold problem in the showers sorted? It’s been over a year that we’ve been asking for it to be cleaned properly, but it’s only ever a light touch clean. The showers desperately need a proper clean. It’s worse than a leisure centre in there, and when you’re paying upwards of £150 a month it’s not great…

Negative experience: The place is awful. Staff at the coffee shop are incoherent and rude. The lady who served me at the coffee shop till this Saturday 04.11. - please do not speak to people this way! The place is like Primark of the gyms in Oxford, and this will be an insult to Primark. AVOID!

Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience at David Lloyd Oxford! The customer service from the sales advisor, Jonathan, was excellent. He was very friendly, helpful and not pushy, as you typically might have with sales advisors. Rebecca, the sales manager, was very friendly and helpful too. The facilities are fantastic, with indoor tennis courts, a wide range of classes, spa (jacuzzi, sauna and steam) and a well equipped cafe servicing food and snacks. It's for these reasons that I decided to take out a membership Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: Great gym, especially Blaze! A fast paced high intensity class, but never boring. I’m new to Blaze (despite being a club member for more than 10 years!) and I’m loving it. The instructors keep you motivated, especially Josias. Paul also does a great job in Cyclone.

Fantastic experience: New member at the Gym, as someone who has been member of several gyms in the past 15 years, David Lloyds Oxford is by far the best gym I've been to! It has fantastic facilities including a lovely swimming pool. The weights and gym equipment are in perfect condition, every muscle group can be efficiently worked on. The gym offers great hospitality service and the staff are ever so attentive to any need brought up. Strongly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I had an incredible experience at this facility! The team members were exceptionally friendly and helpful. It's a perfect spot for families with a wide range of activities for both kids and adults. They offer a diverse selection of classes and group exercises, and the massive pool area with jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room is an added bonus. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
