Positive experience: Great gym. Lots of machines and variety so you don’t have to wait for turns plus all muscle groups are covered. Only issue is for some reason even when you pay for the most expensive membership you can’t workout twice in a day. If you try to enter twice in a day, it doesn’t work and usually a staff member has to let you in, which is super inconvenient.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant Gym, was a bit apprehensive since I arrived at 5.30pm thinking it's going to be difficult to get onto the machines I wanted to. However, got onto everything without delay. Easy free parking, Good various machines to choose from, really good vibes. Really clean and friendly staff. Real little Gem

Fantastic experience: The JD Gym in Benton gets 5 stars from me because it offers everything that I needed to get into shape as an unfit 69 year old and a whole lot more. It is affordable, available 24 hours a day and always immaculate and superbly maintained. The Gym caters for a wide range of ages and abilities and there is a full programme of classes included in the membership fee. Personal trainers are also available at an additional cost and I have heard nothing but praise for their efforts. Credit where credit is due. There is a lot to admire here.

Fantastic experience: Been going here for well over a year now it's a great gym great music , staff are friendly and always working hard , and don't bother you 24 hour also ! Only negative is the odd weirdo with a tripod recording there self's and people sitting on machines scrolling thro phones for far to long ! Apart from that it's great gym !!

Negative experience: If you want a poorly laid out gym with the messiest dumbbell area in existence then this is the gym for you. No Olympic barbells. Plate loaded machine stick at the bottom - would not recommend this gym.

Fantastic experience: Out of the 3 gym locally in the area I'd say this one is the best. Kept really clean. And on top of the machines all the time for maintenance, down to the small detail like replacing missing weight number on cable machines.

Fantastic experience: Really good gym with all the equipment you need. 24/7 hours a great for early weekend mornings. However, although the gym is 24/7, the changing rooms aren’t. Love the spin classes with Rob and Claire T. Only negative is the really inconsiderate parking out front. 100’s of free parking spaces but people park in the road or on the path to be closer to the door, so they can go in to a gym to walk on a treadmill. Bizarre.

Fantastic experience: JD gym is fully equipped. Love the vibe & the music . Everyone is very professional. I moved to JD as my personal trainer Claire Thomas moved to JD from another gym . I so like this new gym . The equipment and the machines feel more impactful. Huge shoutout to the classes as well . The spin classes , boxing , combat are an absolute love and full of energy and positive vibes . I get my daily dose of happiness and contentment here

Negative experience: Good gym, open 24 hours, and the staff are generally really nice. Just don't leave e your valuables in the lockers without a padlock. There are thieves that will take your stuff, and it will take months for the gym to hand over details about the thieves.

Positive experience: Bought a protein shake from the vending machine, as it dispensed it bounced from the dispenser back onto the shelf. Gym is just a slightly better version of puregym.

Negative experience: This gym has gone downhill! Used to love going to this gym and the classes but now it’s such a let down. Classes cancelled within 20 minutes of start time with lame excuses! If you want a gym with good reliable classes this gym isn’t the one sadly. Bring back Flo- atleast she has the music loud and lights off when doing the spin and she joins in unlike 2 of the other women!

Fantastic experience: feel the pain

Negative experience: I used to go to the gym and lift weights and that would be all I would do, That all changed a few years ago when I started doing Flo's spin and pump classes. I was sceptical at first that I'd even see any benefits; would I enjoy these classes etc. Flo completely changed my mind and Perspective and now I absolutely love spinning and pump. I'm stronger/faster/healthier all because of Flo's ways of teaching, and is probably the only reason I still attend these classes and go to this gym. She is one of the best instructors you have and she is always pushing people to work harder in the most professional way, she engages with us all and makes spinning and pump enjoyable and beneficial classes to be part of.

Negative experience: Shocking/dangerous spin equipment, you would expect better from such a large organisation, the third incident that I’m aware of

Negative experience: Have enjoyed going to this gym for some years now , transformation from xercise4 less to what is now is great in facilities. However now aware my greatest driver in achieving my personal goals is being let go . Not saying other instructors are poor but I amongst a huge proportion or regular class goers consider Flo Marsh’s classes being the best available , enthusiastically presented , keeps you going and pushes you to find your limits . Superb . Flo will be a massive loss to the club and what it sets out to deliver .to its members .

Fantastic experience: If you want a gym that is clean and where there is approachable staff then this is the place for you didn’t rate it previously however since Alison has been there there’s been a huge change in the standards definitely been a huge help to Benton adding her to management if you want stuff done talk to her if you feel like you can’t give feedback to someone else I can guarantee you can give it to Alison and she will sort it. Its such a shame not all of the gyms have a similar people working for them.Also she is the only management who is actually nice not all aggressive not everywhere needs someone barking orders she deals with staff differently.

Positive experience: They don't really do classes before 9:15/9:30am so not great if you want to do something like a spin before work. No sauna in this gym either.

Positive experience: Good equipment, but an absolute furnace with negligible Aircon. Can get extremely busy.

Fantastic experience: The gym is great, equipment is great and seems to be well looked after. Obviously during peak times it can get crazy busy so may not be for everyone but it's one of the best for quality and equipment around the area. I generally go outside of peak times where I can but even when I have been during peak, you don't have to wait long for equipment and there's mostly multiple of each piece. Great powerlifting equipment and aesthetics of the gym are nice. Aircon seems to have been improved and music is generally good. The only issue I've had is the qr code scanners to enter/leave can be a bit temperamental sometimes but never struggled to find one that ends up working.

Negative experience: Code doesn’t work to get in / gym instructors don’t turn up take classes - waste of time, stick to selling trainers.

Positive experience: Good gym, would be more stars if they had the same equipment as the Shiremoor and Washington JD ones though.

Fantastic experience: I was away from gym almost four years because of my injuries and I was looking for 24/7 gym near me and I found this amazing clean full of equipment gym and I can't wait to start working out again I hope more people join so the gym can efford to be open 24/7

Fantastic experience: Best JD gym in the area. Multiple squat racks and power racks. Rarely have to queue even in peak times

Positive experience: Lots of good equipment but the aircon is abysmal. I get that its hard to cool down a massive room like that but come on, when theres 80+ people all working out in one area it gets atrociously hot. To make it worse the showers only have hot water too so you cant cool down when youre done.

Negative experience: Good equipment but it's absolutely boiling during peak hours (i.e. every time I go) please put the air con on or something.

Fantastic experience: Good Gym, good music never felt like I needed headphones. Friendly atmosphere for a chain gym. Free parking and always space. Best gym around for the price. I've paid more at other gyms and got a lot less for my money. I think the dumbbells should be doubled up though, especially from 20kg-40kg as you're always waiting on them at busy times.

Might spread out peoples journeys if it was 24 hours or extended opening times. Sent you a.complaint 2 weeks ago and haven’t heard back.

Negative experience: I was a member of the gym under old ownership. It was run down and old, it's certainly more modern now. However, it is far too busy for the size of it. I have just been tonight and could barely get on anything at all. I've tried various times recently to go and do a session but the same thing happens every time. Far too busy for the space they have. It's all fine and well offering cheap initial joining memberships for new people but it has flooded the place to the point I am paying to not use the gym now. As a result I have tried to cancel my membership tonight but every time I try to submit my request to cancel is it says it has failed to capture the data.

Positive experience: Just started back today after being ill. When the gym first reopened it was obviously glamorous and looked great. The range of equipment is great and even when busy, you don't have to wait long or it's easy to find an alternative. It's good to see JD have actually looked at what gets used and put more of that in. The staff were helpful and super nice! I was ready to give this place 5 stars and then.. I went in today and it was disgusting. Floor covered in sweat, chalk and stains. Dust everywhere under the equipment and benches. No staff visible and the dumbbell rack was a joke! I think the place needs more cleaning and some rules about tidying up your weights properly need to be implemented and enforced. Another thing I'd really love is if you opened at 6.30am again. I could train before work then.

Fantastic experience: I go about 3 times a week it is clean and well maintained The gym lockers are large and clean The staff are friendly and ask you if everything is ok

Negative experience: Disappointed that they have no cleaning stations for those who choose to clean after they have used that piece of equipment It's just a simple hygiene request Covid hasn't gone away

Fantastic experience: A great space. 8 weightlifting platforms and a tonne of eleiko bars and bumpers. They don't allow chalk for some reason even thrkgh they've quite clearly spent 10's of thousands on weightlifting equipment alone. Cheap as well but lacking in friendliness, but easy enough to chuck some weights around.

It does come up £5 more expensive each month. Positive experience: I used to be a member here when it was xercise4less. The look of the place is so much better than it used to be. I like the reconfiguration and that all of the lifting platforms are in the same place rather than scattered around like they were. It has a good energy in the place. The only thing I'd have to complain about is the lack of cleaning equipment. I know its not great to look at but helps clean the equipment for others when you forget your gym towel!

Fantastic experience: The new JD gym is amazing and well fitted. It’s brand new with some really great machines. This used to be X4Less which was in poor shape and not well looked after. The music from the classes don’t interfere with regular gym music. This used to be my pet hate. There are lots of cardio machines, free weight squat racks, benches and weights. The gym is really clean and smells new. You will always find things to do. Yeah the blue roll is missing but you can bring your own towel to wipe the bench but, tbh I haven’t seen ppl cleaning after themselves even during the post lockdown period. It remains to be seen if they keep maintaining the gym in the same way but, hey ive been in the Shiremoor one & thats still good. its more exp than X4L but thats a decision you hv to make. you get what you pay for. ! I am not sure why Benton isn’t 24 hrs open like the Shiremoor one it’s 6am - 10 pm atm. Pls open all hours it’s convenient for us. Thanks JD for the fab gym in Benton.

Fantastic experience: COOL NEW GYM! This place used to be Xercise4Less, and it was in pretty bad shape before. But now that it’s been taken over by JD Gyms, they’ve clearly spent a lot of money turning this into a super-mega gym! The first thing you’ll notice is how much space there is and the open-plan layout of the place. It’s laid out really well and it’s easy to find what you’re looking for … even though this place is a mammoth 24,000 sq.ft The cardio area is all in a line and it’s easy to spot where machines are free. The main part of the gym floor is full of machines and plate loaded equipment, which looks awesome from above. They have a functional Eleiko rig area with 6 Olympic weightlifting platforms, so you won’t struggle to get on anything even at busy times. And that free weights area is massive, just look at some of the pictures! The only things that aren’t open-plan are the main studio for classes, and the cool-blue Spin room. It’s worth noting that classes are free and included in the price of membership. The changing rooms have been upgraded, and with new lockers too, which is a bonus. Overall for the money you’re paying (currently £19.99 per month), it’s definitely worth joining - even if you’re a member of another gym already. Either cancel your old membership and join here, or just have both. It’s cheap enough!
