Fantastic experience: I go here about 4 times a week. There is a pool, gym and plenty of classes to go to. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Negative experience: Hairdryer in disabled changing room not working for 6 months. No soap for 2 months. Flooded when washing, water everywhere.. heater not working...freezing cold...

Fantastic experience: I attend Water Aerobics on a Monday evening with Justina the teacher. Justina took over the class in the new year and has been amazing. The routines/exercises are wide and varied, the music selection is banging, and we all singalong to the music whilst doing the exercises. Justina has put a lot of thought into the class and although strenuous workouts, you can have a laugh in the 45 minute classes, plus you get the benefit of exercising muscles not used fir a long while. Love going as I feel the benefit of this exercise. It would be nice to have classes in the daytime as an option as I would prefer daytime classes but I will stilI attend. I would highly recommend her classes.

Fantastic experience: Went to Western Leisure Centre today for an Induction session as a complete first timer for running machine, leg extension and leg curl equipment. Normally swim for fitness when away working overseas, but no pool available this time so trying something new. My PT supervisor, Dan, saw me through my paces, and you couldn't have wished for a nicer guy to explain, demonstrate, watch closely, advise and check on exactly what I was looking for-real personal attention. Left the session feeling confident about continuing and exercising wisely. Dan wants an update on my progress at some point which is the real mark of a true and committed pro who clearly loves his work. I'd also like to give a shout for Paul, one of Cardiff's best swimming instructors whom I bumped into today. Normally see him at Fairwater. He taught our youngest daughter some years back, and from what I see at the pool at weekends, he's just the same now, full of enthusiasm, encouragement and positivity, really essential for passing on a skill where not many can combine those essentials. Negative experience: Really expensive and the pool is hardly open

Fantastic experience: Have started swimming lessons last week. Very nervous as I am of an older age. Adham our swim doctor is amazing and supportive and full of encouragement.2nd week of swimming and can't wait for next lesson highly .

Negative experience: The pool is one of the cleaner Better Gym pools around Cardiff and the depth of the water is more suitable for training drills. In the morning, lane swims are pleasant in the slow lane, amicable and considerate in the medium and highly competitive in the fast lane verging on passive aggressive. The water temperature is better for training and may be too cold for more senior swimmers especially during winter months. The changing area is mixed gender and open plan. Often changing facilities towards the end of the day are dirty and smell of urine. I switched to female dry changing area, however every time, I experienced men coming in when I was close to naked ( this is open plan female only) or parents with children who utilise which then limits adult female access to showers and dressing facilities as they are being utilised by children (whom I experienced to take exceedingly long time showering and messing around). THERE ARE NO HAIR DRYING FACILITIES AT ALL! Due to lack of dressing facilities, it’s really challenging to swim before work or activities that require you to be presentable post swim. The cost to swim is much too high. If the centre reduced its rates, installed hairdryers and provided PIN code access only, to female dry changing area, the centre would secure more regular customers. The high cost for a swim which leaves a residual negative experience results in patrons never returning. Such a shame as I love swimming.

Fantastic experience: My daughter Absolutely loves coming here for her swimming lessons. The swimming teachers are fantastic with the children no matter the ability to swim. I've even witnessed the swimming teacher get in the water with the children to help them gain confidence. Definitely a family feeling here. Would highly recommend, you won't be disappointed. To be honest all the staff at western leisure are amazing. Always willing to help.

Fantastic experience: Nason was absolutely brilliant during my visit. He was very helpful and was a bundle of smiles. Couldn't have asked for a better employee to help me.

Positive experience: Loved the toddler pool really warm and clam when big children aren't in there. The big children dunking each other and splashing in the toddler pool nearly hit into my toddler. My 10 year old came and she didn't behave badly as she understood that there are babies and small children that could get hurt in the pool. The big children should be in the big pool if they can't be safe around the little ones.

Positive experience: Pool is nice, the signs say swim around in a circle, but nobody seems to take any notice! The lack of proper hairdryers in the changing room is a pain. I usually swim at Fairwater where the changing rooms are great and have all the facilities you need. Cantonian High School have taken over the pool every week day morning until end of July so I have had to start swimming at Western. Hopefully the 6 months will go fast and fingers crossed there won't be any delays with the building work at the School so I can get back to Fairwater where I can dry my hair!

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting how my neice and her friends went there today (Tom boys) wore shorts and t-shirts to go into the pool and they got turned away due to not wearing a bakini in there! What dirty pervs do they have they working there! Wudnt Recommend it atall!

Positive experience: We used this location for a birthday party using the Air Venture. The air venture bouncy castle is great plenty of room and different obstacles to overcome. The kids seemed to really enjoy themselves. Price wise I think £300 is a bit on the expensive side for only 1 hour on the air venture and then the use of a room for 1 hour. You will have to provide your own food as this is not an option. Would we use again - probably but I would shop around and price up other options first.

Negative experience: Paid for a membership with the intention to gym and swim. It is almost impossible to book swimming on the app. It always says there are no sessions and it seems like the only time you can go is in the morning… however, I work. Gym is great - happy from that side but the reason I chose to come here instead of a much cheaper membership elsewhere is so I can swim. It seems like better taking over the leisure centres was the worst thing that could have happened. It’s not very affordable or accessible and it’s such a shame.

Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre. We especially love the training pool where both of our young children go for swimming lessons led by Adham who is a fantastic teacher

Positive experience: Have visited to play badminton, lighting is excellent and condition of courts etc very good

Negative experience: they pick and choose when the pool is open, say they’re short staffed so can’t run the pool but have 3 lifeguards moaping around the place. Super annoyed today.

Fantastic experience: My twin grandsons had their 6th birthday party at Western Leisure centre today. What a fabulous time all the children had on their inflatable adventure. It was the biggest and best I have ever seen well worth the money. The staff especially the manager went above and beyond to make sure our experience there was enjoyable and were all extremely helpful. Nothing was to much trouble for them. Would definitely recommend this as a go to place for children's parties. Says it all when on the way out the twins say to their mum can we come here again when we are 7.

Negative experience: Been a member here for a few years and you know what's changed through those years?....Absolutely nothing. This place has probably one of the worst gyms in Cardiff. They'll move the equipment around once a year so you think they've added some stuff but its the same old crap. They have very limited weight machines, racks and general muscle building equipment but they have about 20 running machines and cycles? Not sure if they're expecting Tour de France to pass through or what. The running machines see less action than the 40 year old virgin. But as soon as more than 6 people try hitting the weights its like trying to get into Live Lounge without booking beforehand. Absoloute chaos! and God forbid a machine breaks down. You're looking on a 4-5 months wait for them to pick up the phone and actually log it to the mechanic. They also go through younger staff faster than minimum wage at McDonalds. Not sure why that is? could be that they're always having a chin wag and twiddling their thumbs looking lost around the place? I got an idea, how about you refill that sanitizer spray that ran out last Monday Laura? or maybe grab some Blue roll and not a pocket size pack of Kleenex to wipe the machines down with. These guys are so lucky the only other gym in the area is run by Dr*g dealers and nobody wants to take a line of 99% baby powder before they go for a personal best. Its unfortunate PureGym hasn't made tracks up this way yet. Im in contact with them at the moment and they're "Exploring their options in this area".

Fantastic experience: We signed our son Theo up for swimming lessons . And I have to say the swimming instructor Adham is absolutely fantastic .. I can't praise him highly enough ! He is has so much enthusiasm and energy in what he does. He is brilliant at what he does . I can highly recommend Saturday morning swimming with Adham ... Thank you so much Adham for helping Theo learn . You are amazing at what you do . 5*****

Negative experience: Their computer wouldn't accept me as a new member. Told to go home and do my application on line. Don't think I'll bother going there again. I'd rather get on a bus and go swimming in the Bay Water Park and Olympic Pool.

This leisure centre is easy to get to, has a decent size car park that I've never seen full and has a recently refurbished gym and spin room with good quality bikes (only let down is they don't have the screen to see what gear you're in and RPM you're doing). A pleasure to visit.

Positive experience: Much improved over the past year but my recent visit was marred by about a dozen hooded youths who came in and made a lot of noise and swearing profusely. They sat all around me and made my visit uncomfortable. Would have probably badly scared most ladies by their actions.

Negative experience: NO SWIMMING FOR KIDS ON WEEKDAYS!! Went to take my 6 month old baby swimming today and was told the baby pool is only open on weekends as it costs to much to run and staff. Was not allowed to use the main pool as this is for adults only!! So much for health and wellbeing, it's all about money. It's disgraceful that I can not take my child swimming (only during busy weekends) at my local pool.

Negative experience: Awful experience, child's birthday party, was doubled booked and we weren't even told about it, when the mother of the birthday girl asked why we had been taken off the bouncy castle play area she had one of the male supervisors in her face to the point she had to say she was feeling threatened
