Our comment from FitFit UK about Wonford Sports Centre:
Wonford Sports Centre, located in Exeter, United Kingdom, is a cherished community hub known for its friendly staff and clean facilities. Users consistently highlight the helpfulness of the personnel, noting that they are always willing to assist, making booking courts and accessing the gym a seamless experience.
Many visitors appreciate the wide variety of indoor sports available, especially pickleball, which has garnered particular praise. The centre is not overcrowded, providing a peaceful environment that allows for a more enjoyable workout. Parking is easy and free, contributing to the overall positive experience at the facility.
With a reasonable membership fee, users benefit from access to good equipment, including a heavy weights room and badminton courts. While some have mentioned that the gym can become busy during peak times or that certain facilities could use modernisation, these aspects are often overshadowed by the sense of community and the warm atmosphere fostered by both staff and members.
Overall, Wonford Sports Centre is a wonderful place for fitness enthusiasts of all levels, making it a highly recommended location for locals to stay active and engaged.

Wonford Sports Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: clean, adequate equipment and very kind staff.
Fantastic experience: Great Sports Centre for Pickleball. Really helpful & wonderful staff. Easy Parking
Fantastic experience: The staff team are always so friendly and make the process of booking courts so easy. Every time I've booked a court it has been set up in advance without any delay.
Fantastic experience: Super friendly staff. Not overcrowded. Decent facilities and equipment.
Fantastic experience: Staff are very friendly, I play pickle ball on a Wednesday and everyone is very friendly and welcoming to beginners.ect
Fantastic experience: Nice laid back gym. I went there because the ISCA Center gym was shut. It's a very pleasant alternative. You can do your Lidl shopping while you are there too!
Fantastic experience: I’ve used the facilities here for nearly 20 years, a very good community based centre with helpful and competent staff and excellent facilities, even now I no longer live in the area I still travel in to use Wonford’s gym rooms and football facilities
Positive experience: Nice sports centre for a wide variety of indoor sports
Fantastic experience: Great site . Excellent value for money , it's only around 30 quid a month ...go as much as you like , PLUS you can use all of the councils other sites as well in the price . It's good kit , got a heavy weights room too . Showers and changing areas aren't The Ritz ..but for 30 quid a month you can't complain. Plus , you always get a warm and friendly welcome from Vicky , Andy , Emily and the Flower pot man " Echo" Keith ! Very clean site too ...and ample nearby parking
Fantastic experience: A few useful things to know: - Free wifi for customers, and small seating area near reception where one could potentially work from. - Either bring 50p for the use of the lockers, take your belongings with you wherever you go, or leave them in the changing room/ reception/ lockers without locking. - The bracelets from St Sidwell's point do not work here, and vice versa the cards that do work here do not work at St Sidwells, so if you don't have a card- give your name at reception to get signed in. Comparatively small gym (compared with St Sidwells Point) but warm and helpful staff when I went and good range of equipment for the exercise that I was interested in!
Fantastic experience: Small but good
Fantastic experience: Good location, friendly staff.
Positive experience: friendly staff. Good badminton court
Fantastic experience: Great place with friendly staff. Also place looks clean. Parking is free and gym is quite good. Well equipped badminton courts and gym!!
Fantastic experience: Great gym , friendly staff , never too busy
Fantastic experience: Great, helpful staff. Lovely, community atmosphere, everyone supporting and looking after each other. Amazing venue.
Positive experience: Really friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Cool
Fantastic experience: Peaceful environment with amazing staffs
Fantastic experience: Great spinning classes
Fantastic experience: The site is clean and well maintained. Staff are polite and very helpful.
Fantastic experience: Easy to park and helpful staff. Lots of opportunities to play badminton. Well equipped and spacious gym.
Fantastic experience: Great space with a very helpful staff ... should be more widely used by the local community ... as it is a great community resource!
Fantastic experience: Good staff nice facilities
Negative experience: Very poor communication. Don't expect any customer service and you'll still be disappointed
Negative experience: Staff used to be friendly, but we appear to have lost the best staff to the new gym in Sowton. Also, since the refurbishment, the air conditioning breaks down approximately once per month (so the gym is hot and unusable as far as I am concerned); when I ask the staff about this, they just say that they know nothing about the continuous failure of the air conditioning. I asked a member of staff to keep the external door open, but they would not. Probably time to leave for the gym in Sowton - mind you, the private company have lost the upcoming tender to keep running the gym, so maybe we will get some nice new staff!
Fantastic experience: So I recently moved back to Exeter and got into a more healthy lifestyle/Gyming, and I would not be able to keep it up without the help the staff at Wonford has provided. (I have been using the gym for 4 months now) I received an induction upon joining which was pretty quick, but I was surprised that the gym is Far nicer/Clean than it is in the pictures. I would suggest seeing it in person as its very different to the pictures. It consists of two rooms, one with various cardio and lifting machines with Dumbells. And another room with 3 racks with more dumbells/equipment. I was given free advice on lifting by employees - Which really helped me get on my way. The only downside I will say is that it is pretty small, and as you can imagine if you go at "Peak times" then you will have to wait to use equipment. But for someone like myself with an unconventional work schedule it has everything I need. The membership for the gym also gives you free classes such as Spinning/body combat which I personally do not go to but have heard great things about. In summary, if you are someone who works a 9-5, if you get in before 6pm or after 8pm I would say this gym has everything you need to get you in shape ✌️ If you can only Gym around 6-8pm I would recommend going elsewhere as its not worth spending half your time waiting.
Fantastic experience: Really friendly staff who were more than happy to give us a tour, perfectly adequate gym for £25 per month: clean, never too busy and free parking.
Negative experience: The opening times states 7.30 am- 9.30pm This picture was taken @ 8:15pm. Staff are friendly but always closes way too early. And often time even go as far as to lie saying theres a booking right after us, we usually stay and chat outside and we see the staff come out and drive off..... Way before 9.30
Positive experience: Great place for sports and leisure.....
Positive experience: Great for parties.
Positive experience: Good place but the gym is way too small for the amount of people who turn up
Positive experience: Nice staff great classes
Fantastic experience: Great venue for a get together
Positive experience: Good badminton courts
Fantastic experience: I love the gym..the staff and every one is very friendly..
Positive experience: A fun place for kids
Fantastic experience: The gym is of high quality with a wide range of good equipment. The sports halls are standard, not much to be said. Friendly staff, positive atmosphere. Overall nice place.
Positive experience: Reasonably priced sports centre. Staff are very helpful and range of facilities and classes is good. Some parts are starting to look a bit tired these days.
Fantastic experience: Great classes, super helpful staff, modern equipment.
Fantastic experience: Great local place for keeping fit
Positive experience: No nonsense place to come and exercise. It's a gym, not a fashion show. A row of treadmills and elliptical machines, some bikes and a couple of rowing machines. Various weight lifting machines, spinning and body combat, badminton.. Have to say that the aircon in this place is underwhelming.
Positive experience: An ok place, tired, but then it is council run so we should just be happy it's still open?
Fantastic experience: Standard sports centre. They don't chase you out after sessions. Can pay on arrival. Friendly attitude
Positive experience: The gym is a bit aged with some equipment needing replacement
Positive experience: They have some okay equipment to cover most workouts. But it's quite small and it gets busy quickly
Positive experience: Small courts
Fantastic experience: Toddler birthday party was excellent.
Positive experience: Like a sainsbury basic gym. Does what it says on the tin. Staff are like a happy sprinkling of glitter. Could do with some tlc decor wise.
Positive experience: I train here on a daily basis, staff arequired brilliant and will help with anything, used by a great community of people, Would rate 5 if someone would in force away to make people return their weights to help it look better
Negative experience: Awful place. Cheap weight benches that wobble all over the place when your laying on them. Very very over priced membership for a cheap dirty gym
Fantastic experience: Great place, i run a badminton group every Sunday. Also the staff are helpful.
Negative experience: Could do with some serious modernisation.
Positive experience: I went here to watch a netball match that Exeter university were playing for in earlier this week. The sports hall is not particularly nice, and the boring balcony is rather small and in one of the corners so it's very hard to see what's going on at the other end of the court
Positive experience: Nice gym, not too busy
Negative experience: i went there in the summer holiday i did not like it because i am a indoor person and like going on the ps3 and stuff like that but if u like soft toys and that its great also the staff there are friendly. by liam
