Virgin Active in London offers a comprehensive gym experience with friendly staff and modern facilities. Most users appreciate the polite reception team and the professionalism of personal trainers. Many members highlight the cleanliness of the gym and the positive atmosphere. The gym is conveniently located in the central business area, making it accessible for many. Noteworthy features include a wide range of equipment, including cardio and strength training machines, and the added perk of a salt room, which many users have praised.
However, there are some recurring concerns from members. Equipment availability during peak hours can be challenging due to an increase in membership without a proportional increase in facilities. Additionally, the lack of a swimming pool has disappointed some members, as has the inconsistent maintenance of the air conditioning and spa facilities. While some users have had excellent interactions with staff, others have experienced rudeness and a lack of responsiveness to complaints.
Overall, Virgin Active is seen as a solid gym with great offerings, although improvements could be made in communication and facility availability. Many members look forward to their workouts, enjoying the amenities and classes, despite some drawbacks.

Virgin Active: Opinions
Negative experience: Virtually impossible to access equipment during peak hours due to limited equipment yet they continue to increase the number of members. They have also made it mandatory that you purchase a wristband to use lockers.
Positive experience: Do not raise issues to the club manager via the Virgin Active App as the team do not respond. It’s best to do it via Google reviews where they are more inclined to address the issue. I am still waiting severely months later for a response for a serious incident I raised via the app. +Positives+ + Polite reception welcome upon every visit. + Cleaning staff, John and Jolanda are very friendly, hardworking and always keeping the areas clean throughout the gym. + Good and clean spa. -Negatives- - The one large punch bag in the centre of the gym needs to be moved to a different area. You have one person that uses it for up to an hour, punching, making loud grunts sounds while annoying everyone else. It’s evident other gym users are getting annoyed as you can hear it through one’s headphones. It happens often therefore listing it as a negative. It would be more practical to move it to the large boxing room which is often empty and only used for a few classes a week therefore it should not affect anyone wanting to use this equipment. Once I heard a member punching this bag and grunting while I was sitting in the sauna, that is how loud it can become considering the distance. Moving one piece of gym equipment will make a pleasant gym experience for many more members. Overall a good gym but would have given it more stars if it was not for the lack of response.

Negative experience: Been a member for several years… found they removed a club with no prior notification. Asked for it to be added back on twice via Cannon Street reception which included a convoy with what appeared to be a manager - happy to pay extra. Nothing… received an email stating they’re increasing membership costs but nothing else. Not pleased

Fantastic experience: I returned to the gym after a long hiatus and PT sessions with Liam Vienings at Walbrook have done wonders to restore my confidence and to get me to love working out again. Liam is professional, personable, takes time to understand what works for his clients ,and knows his stuff!
Fantastic experience: Shak and Dakhota were amazing at the desk and showed me around the gym. Lovely guys and got me really excited to get started! Great staff and amazing gym!
Negative experience: Ongoing failing aircon is the major problem here. It’s been an ongoing issue for over 12 months. Club could do with a better strength training area and better maintenance too. Dust bunnies and random hair easily spotted.
Negative experience: Really disappointed with this gym - the spa smells and is so small without a jacuzzi the very least. Good boxing classes but otherwise very poor gym.

Negative experience: Ripoff! Guest passes are now 35 pounds, and it's not even that good of a gym. The equipment is quite dated, and it's in a basement. Not bringing my friends again.

Fantastic experience: Best Gym in London, very bright and modern looking. I like the wrist band system (finally something better than those dated plastic cards, I was always loosing them). The wrist band you always have on your wrist and never forget it (and they’re look cool). Very good equipment. I like that the benches have decline adjustment, so you can combine them with the squat racks and do decline bench press. Cable resistance machines are doubled up, so I don’t have to wait in line when I want to train my triceps or do a lat pull down. I like private cardio room where I can train on the treadmill and answer my phone in quiet. The only club with the ice machine in the spa and the salt room is amazing. After salt room I recommend the tropical shower. I could talk it for ages about the place, but people have to just come and check it by themselves. Both, staff and the members are very friendly here. Very recommended place to enjoy your workout.

Positive experience: The staff were polite and welcoming and the gym was well equipped and clean. The sauna steam and sauna rooms were fantastic and so were the tropical showers. The only thing that I was disappointed by was the lack of any pool or jacuzzi facilities.

Fantastic experience: Good gym in a very convenient location. Sometimes a few issues with the shower block, lots of showers out of action, but have only ever had to queue once! Loads of machines, always one available and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Loads of lockers and they don't require a padlock which is a bonus. Expensive but a nice place to workout.

Negative experience: Very disappointed with the club, used it before the pandemic and it was really good. However, the club is advertised as premium but has had its spa facilities out of action for over a year. The staff have been incredibly unresponsive where I’ve always had to follow up since they don’t reply, when they do reply it’s always followed with an apology that they’ve just come back from holiday or from days off, it seems an out of office auto response is beyond their basic customer service skills. The staff have been rude with one of the membership consultants telling me if the only reason I joined the club being the spa then I shouldn’t have bothered joining the club in the first place. I had to inform the member of staff it wasn’t the only reason. However, part of the reason they can justify their monthly premium membership fee is for these services and with those facilities being out of action for over a year is completely unacceptable without compensating their members or allowing them out of their contracts.

Negative experience: I have been transfered to this gym from Mansion House where I used to be before the pandemic. I went for the very first time on Friday evening and have been disappointed by the offering. The gym felt to be small and there is frankly not much space to move around. Machines are ok but, not great quality. Then, I have been looking for the bench area to find out it was located at the bottom end of the floor in a corner and pretty much with no space to move....! Additionally, I have looking for a big ballon on the gym floor to do some stretching but, couldn't find any. Then, I have been looking forward for many months to go back to a form of sauna/hammam again but, when I arrived at the club, the entire space was "out of service" and not a single room was working...... And, finally, this gym simply has no swimming pool. All in all, I have felt let down very badly................ :-(

Fantastic experience: Love this club. Such a modern environment, with a cool boxing studio. Really nice one-touch wristband system for checking in and using lockers. Very clean everywhere, and a lovely coffee machine in the lounge. The team is friendly and professional. Such a shame their are closed now.

Positive experience: Excellent gym, one of my favourites. Front desk staff have an astonishingly unwelcoming attitude but it's made up by the rest of the friendly staff and superb facilities down below.
Negative experience: I am sick to death of this club...I have been a member of Virgin Active for 10+ years in the UK and abroad and I've been extremely happy with the offering...except Cannon Street! A huge number of problems: months and months of asking for the Spin Bikes to be maintained / checked / replaced (i do three classes a week, members constantly feedback the issues, staff do nothing - this means that if a class if fully booked at least 4/5 people won't be able to go due to duff bikes), today we ran out of towels, instructors often can't use Audio Equipment because it's broken or they haven't been trained, Gym staff have no clue if an instructor has not turned up or turns up late (members need to trek up to Reception to let them know). The club is clearly badly run, does not communicate effectively amongst its staff and does not listen to its members. All this for £129/month! You get the impression the club is run to the lowest possible cost rather than striving for quality. I stupidly locked myself in at the start of 2019 for another 12 months but I cannot wait to leave. Thank god I can use Bank, Mansion House etc with my membership - well run, efficient, reliable Clubs. Avoid Cannon Street and save yourself the bother!

Negative experience: Woman on reception was so rude when I enquired about joining that she has totally put me off the brand. When I asked for a manager I was told there was no one around. Not the way to run a business
Positive experience: No longer free coffee. I'm devastated. Its less busy and more friendly than third space and although the facilities and classes are not as good (still great though) it's sometimes useful to have the option of different gyms (mansion House and this one are the nicest of the collective imo).

Negative experience: This club has recently become dissapointing. Since being a member in 2017 the have have reduced the working hours, stopped the free coffee and reduced the number of items they can iron to one (when I signed up it was trousers and shirt). Despite all this, they see this as no change in terms of their contract and expect you to stay in their contract. I would be very cautious of signing a long term contract as they do literally lure you in and then do what they want when contracts are signed. They are mainly interested in money and do not care about customer loyalty. My advice is do not sign long term with them as they change their terms and conditions without informing you for the worse. Other negative is over the last years atleast 4 members of staff have left and complained of not being treated well by seniors negative about the club's ethos. Seeing how they treat members I am not really surprised either.
Positive experience: Not the best VA club, but one of the most expensive one. Moorgate membership is cheaper and club is better.

Negative experience: I love the classes selection at Wallbrook! The spa area really needs some attention... there’s always an horrible sewer smell in there; it just ruins the whole experience.
Positive experience: Was tempted to try this gym due to their altitude training. Gym is ok, slightly busy. I don’t know what expected effect of altitude training are suppose to be, but I didn’t see the difference. Other than that gym has nice set up. Shame spa area is mixed gender and shame there is no pool. I liked equipment and set up, much better than in ‘home’ club I use (Mayfair).
Fantastic experience: Well equipped and situated gym
Fantastic experience: Really amazing facility with sauna, steam room and Himalayan salt room, gym floor is great and even has a little area to get work done if needed or to just sit and have a coffee. Uses fancy bracelets to check in and to lock/ unlock lockers so you don't need to bring a lock!
Positive experience: Although busy at times, great facility with many equipments both for working out and having a good relaxation.
Positive experience: Good equipment, good classes, but out of all Virgin gyms I've been , it is the dirtiest . Clouds of dust in lockers, dirt even on the doors in the toilets, dirty/used cotton pads mixed with unused, black mold in showers.
Positive experience: Expensive for what it is, but it is a large and well equipped gym in the centre of the city. Good facilities but no pool. Membership allows you to use other Virgin clubs, some nearby have swimming pools.

Positive experience: In a nut shell, solid range of equipment that thanks to the massive membership fee is usually free. 4 star because given 2 years of moaning they still have not put a stair climber into the altitude room. Or for that matter marketed programmes for expositions. It's missing a trick. Also place is a bit mucky with dust.
Fantastic experience: One of the better gyms I've ever been to. Don't miss the salt sauna.
Fantastic experience: Perfectly located in the City, only few meters away opposite Cannon Street Railway and Underground Station, and also about 1minite walk from Exit 8 of Bank Underground Station. The quality and variety of classes, equipment, and facilities are at the standard of the signature Virgin Active gyms.

Fantastic experience: Amazing gym. Part of the Virgin elite level of clubs. Fabulous fabulous including altitude room and full sauna steam room etc. Friendly staff and large aerobic and weights areas. All kit is modern and state of the art. They will even clean your shoes and iron your shirts whilst you work out. Great gym!

Negative experience: You know it's a great club and your money is well spent when your PT steals almost £200 from you. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who want to work out. If you want to pay evtravagant amounts of money to join a clique and pose in outfits then this is your place else avoid.
