Our comment from FitFit UK about Northallerton Leisure Centre:
Northallerton Leisure Centre is a well-equipped facility that offers a variety of activities for all ages. Users praise the modern gym equipment and the availability of a fantastic swimming pool featuring fun amenities like a wave machine and slides, making it enjoyable for families and children. The centre is known for its friendly staff and helpful service, creating a welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
Many families appreciate the children's zones and the opportunity for kids to engage in fun swimming activities. Several reviews highlight the excellent family facilities, including spacious changing rooms and the cleanliness of the environment. The gym is also noted to never be too overcrowded, allowing for a comfortable workout experience.
However, some users have raised concerns regarding booking and wait times, mentioning that the lack of a proper booking system often leads to frustration, particularly during peak hours. A few reviews indicate that the pool can feel cold and that its condition may be dated, which can detract from the overall experience.
Overall, despite some areas for improvement, the Northallerton Leisure Centre remains a popular choice for those seeking a fun and engaging recreational experience.

Northallerton Leisure Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: It's a well equipped gym and the kit is modern. I go when it's supposedly not too busy but the teen gym members seem to be coming in earlier and earlier. If you want to listen to them trying to run as fast as they can on a treadmill for 5 seconds then make sure you're in there just after 3pm!
Fantastic experience: Only went to this place as grandson was playing football there but refreshments and snacks are ok nice place though
Fantastic experience: Went to watch my autistic grandson play football. Joel the coach was amazing with the special needs children
Fantastic experience: Fantastic hour swimming! Fun for kids and adults together!
Fantastic experience: Only used the gym and badminton courts but all good. Always busy but not overcrowded.
Fantastic experience: Great place for grandchildren to swim lots to do . lovely swimming pool
Fantastic experience: A Great Hour or so Excercise for ALL in a very Accomodating -Wave/Spray' Pool. Kinda VERY HOT in the Viewing Area; but I'm no Youngster fresh from School! NO Cafe; however a Dispenser offers Coffee, Choc things 'n Crisps! Friendly Staff were welcoming whilst floors are free from any Trips!
Fantastic experience: Kids loved it
Fantastic experience: Great staff, great pool with slides, a little bit cold.
Positive experience: Visiting the area and on a hot day fancied a swim. The Monday afternoon 'discount dip' was excellent value for money at £1.75. It seemed popular and they said they limited numbers so probably a good idea to arrive in good time for the session. The pool does look a bit dated and tired, as you might expect for a 1990s era swimming pool. It looked clean but worn in places (e.g. patched or discoloured tiles). I definitely appreciated the 'suit mate' swimsuit dryer in the changing area, I wish my local pool had one! Very convenient for taking home your costume without it being soggy and heavy.
Positive experience: Fantastic if you have young children, wave machine, water slide, water jets, and toddlers play area We where visiting and had been staying in our campervan, so wanted a swim sauna and shower, it was Sunday so extremely busy. Great sauna, not the best day to visit for a swim.
Fantastic experience: Excellent pool for younger children and those not confident
Fantastic experience: I am disabled and it had great facilities. Clean and well organised. Lovely staff.
Negative experience: Sad to see how this place has gone downhill. No dance mats no more. No roller skating for kids. They take things away from you but keep putting the prices up. Not good enough. £35 a month for concessions No one will pay that just for a gym they will go to Pure Gym. Because you can't go in the pool when you want because of classes now. They really need to start attracting people. We are also in a recession now
Positive experience: Very enjoyable visit with young grandchildren. Helpful website info available to plan visit. Pool is excellent, if a little cool, with wave machine etc. Well staffed at poolside for safety. Good family friendly changing facilities. All facilities well kept, warm & clean.
Positive experience: The pictures look amazing I can't wait to go tomorrow
Negative experience: Shocking. Poor advertising rude staff
Positive experience: The gym is quite grim, hygiene is a low priority, plenty of members not wiping down machines. The machines however are modern, the staff are friendly, there's 24 hour access for those who need it.
Positive experience: A nice pool. It’s got fun fountains, slides and a wave machine so certainly makes it more interesting than most of the pools in this area. What I found let it down a bit though was it was very cold, no booking facility so it’s pot luck as to whether you can get in or not, once in queueing for a free cubicle and the floor was extremely dirty which was the biggest issue for me. Dirty, wet and very hairy.
Negative experience: Called to enquire regarding visiting with family. Visiting from Newcastle. Staff member pleasant. However rediculous policy of having the wave machine/slides at very limited times. Also told if too busy we won’t be able to have entry. This is 2024 - use an app to allow booking and cancel via app/notifications. Look at the Active Northumberland app. Outdated and centre driven policies rather than focussing on the users.
Fantastic experience: My son and his friends enjoyed a basketball session at the leisure centre recently. We hired the whole court for an hour, and the process of booking was simple, the court was clean and really works well for basketball, and the staff really helpful and friendly. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Loved swimming, really good facility
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre, lots of options available for activities. Helpful staff.
Positive experience: Great leisure centre with plenty of parking and very helpful kind staff.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, fabulous staff. Never too busy
Negative experience: Can't turn up and use any of the facilities without certain staff members who were not at work.
Positive experience: There are a really good range of classes available and the instructors are motivating and helpful. I do think the whole booking system/ checking in system needs a refurb. It is outdated and difficult to use.
Positive experience: Me and my partner went swimming during a general session... Carnt Complain.. only a little dated but didn't bother us... wasn't too busy so had a good swim without being to busy... Will be of back weekly
Negative experience: I recently had a highly disappointing experience at the Northallerton Swimming Pool with the wave machine and slides, and I feel compelled to share my negative feedback on Trustpilot. My family and I had made a considerable effort to visit this facility, driving for 30 minutes to get there. We were enticed by the promise of a fun-filled day with the wave machine and slides. To ensure that our trip would be worthwhile, we called ahead on a Saturday to inquire about booking. Much to our dismay, we were informed that booking was not possible, but we were assured there would be plenty of spaces available if we decided to come down. Taking their word for it, we arrived promptly at 11:00 AM on that Saturday morning, ready for a day of aquatic enjoyment. However, upon arrival, we were met with an unpleasant surprise – there were no spaces available. Instead, we were told to join a queue, and only the first 17 people in line would be allowed in at 12:00 PM, meaning we would have to endure a one-hour wait. This was simply not feasible for us as we had two young children in our group who were eagerly looking forward to their swim. Waiting for an hour was not an option. In desperation, I approached the reception to inquire about the possibility of returning later when it might be less crowded. To my dismay, they recommended that we do just that. Following their advice, we left the facility and decided to call ahead to check on the situation. Shockingly, the lady who answered the phone at the facility assured us that there were plenty of available spaces, and she even suggested that we arrive in 10-15 minutes. With renewed hope, we made our way back to the Northallerton Swimming Pool, only to be greeted by the same disappointing reality – no spaces available once again! The frustration of this situation was further exacerbated by the complete lack of apologies or acknowledgment of their mistake from the center's staff. In the end, our visit to the Northallerton Swimming Pool turned into a bitter disappointment. We left with two upset children and a lingering bad taste in our mouths. The utter mismanagement of their poor processes and booking system, coupled with the staff's indifference to our inconvenience, made this experience thoroughly unsatisfactory. I would strongly advise potential visitors to exercise caution when considering a trip to this facility, as it seems that their promises of an enjoyable day out are far from reliable.
Negative experience: Poor organisation. Tried on two occasions to take my son swimming, and both times I’ve been turned away to be told it’s full and to come back in an hour. Speaking to the staff on reception, asked why there was no booking system. Staff informed me that they refused to have one, because they “can’t be bothered” (their words) to call 140 people if the pool had to close to do refunds and cancellations. As we returned to our car we saw half a dozen other families also rejected and turned away. Absolutely unacceptable attitude for a public amenity.
Negative experience: They don't answer the phone and when you get there they turn you away because they are too busy.
Positive experience: Closes early on Saturday (3 pm) so if trying to go for the fun swim go earlier in the day. Great pool and wave machine is brilliant.
Positive experience: Excellent toning gym especially for people with mobilty problems
Positive experience: The swimming pool is brilliant for younger children, it’s nice and warm( or at least is was when I visited). The prices are really good and they do some brilliant deal on school days for toddlers.
Fantastic experience: Love the parkrun
Fantastic experience: Wave machine, slide, walk in pool...friendly staff and really good price
Positive experience: Shower was cold.
Positive experience: Good gym... few out of use machines...
Fantastic experience: Great lesuire centre, the flooring on the basketball court has just been relaid and is amazing to play on. The staff are lovely and really helpful. Definitely recommend!
Fantastic experience: Great adventure for kids swimming, they thoroughly enjoyed it ,staff were first class and courteous....i also left jacket in cubicle with phone in it some lovley person handed it in and staff returned it to me top class venue and not expensive either.
Negative experience: Stinky cheese
Positive experience: Scate Park and grounds are very good. The leisure centre is also a treat for the town, swimming is good here there's also fun water slides and wave machines.
Positive experience: Brill place to enjoy a walk by the river. And explore the new area they are paving by the road bridge. And free car parking
Fantastic experience: Very helpful statt
Fantastic experience: Pool was warm me and my son enjoyed our time there
Negative experience: Visited today with my two children. Pool was full so was asked to come back at 1250. Went and sat in the car for 20 mins as the rain was torrential. Went back at 1240 and tried to sit inside due to the weather but was told we would have to wait outside (not sure why as the entrance was empty). Then had to pay full price for swimming even though there was no slides available. Not sure why the pool cant police a one out one in policy to stop the queues. Really has gone down hill since Covid.
Negative experience: I thought we had been overcharged but when I queried it, I was told that a family swim ticket is only available at certain times in the week. At other times you have to pay for each family member separately - even the under-2s. This should be made clear on the web site.
Positive experience: Pleasant staffs
Fantastic experience: Nice park run, nice park
Fantastic experience: Love the swimming pool for a family day out! Pool is very clean and looked after.
Fantastic experience: Friendly, helpful team with great facilities.
Negative experience: Admission system fail… Queuing for an hour and then gave up…
Negative experience: Went to the swimming baths today. I was stared at the entire time by the life guards because of my tattoos, it felt like we couldn’t do anything, they blew their whistles constantly no matter what anyone done. All we tried to do was have a family swim but the entire time we had nothing but horrible looks and whistles blew.
Positive experience: Grea family swin session
Positive experience: Gym good but lousy directions for getting home due to roadworks, no diversion signs whatsoever
Positive experience: It's ok
Fantastic experience: First time here lpvdd the pool nice and warm only thing not enough time at 45 mins
Negative experience: Never fully available due to 'staff' issues. Updates only shown on Facebook but never on their website. Very poor.
Fantastic experience: Staff very helpful, good choice of classes
Positive experience: Only there as a spectator
Positive experience: Good
Positive experience: Used gym it's ok not busy
Fantastic experience: My granddaughter goes to gymnastics here and absolutely lives it.
Fantastic experience: Great place.
Negative experience: Chaotic booking system. Where nobody seems to know what's happening.
Fantastic experience: lovely pool
Fantastic experience: Great pool for the kids.
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed the experience
Fantastic experience: Excellent customer service. Great instructor.
Negative experience: Took a payment for a gym membership I didn't even have and lucky of anyone will answer the phone.
Fantastic experience: Clean pool friendly staff all very helpful
Positive experience: Arrived after a 35min drive with out 2 year old to be told the wave machine and slide wouldn't be operating.
Fantastic experience: I travel 30mins from Darlington to go here with the kids, the waves are a bit stronger than stockton and water is deeper for adults than splash (just not as big or deep as dolphin centre - but DC doesnt have waves and at the minute requires booking!)
Fantastic experience: Went swimming here. Great place. Kids thoroughly enjoyed it. Will be back
Positive experience: We use the swimming pool here. It's OK for a fun swim (wave machine, slide etc) but limited for lane swimming.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: It was brilliant for the children
Positive experience: Had a realy good time in the swimming pool. It has a slide and wave machine lots of fun especially for children.
Fantastic experience: We love the pool here and my son loves the slide
Fantastic experience: Great venue, the pool is amazing and the gym is great to use, I go around 5 times a week
Fantastic experience: The kids love it here, clean, friendly staff, not a massive pool, but certainly great fun.
Fantastic experience: Enjoable swim
Fantastic experience: Really nice place
Positive experience: Poor staff rude and confrontational, great gym though and changing rooms
Fantastic experience: I enjoyed walking my dog round the beck and fields. Quieter early morning. Field is looking good ,lush green. The path along the beck is clear of mud.No masses of runners churning it up.
Fantastic experience: Spacious gym with plenty of option for exercise both cardio and resistance
Positive experience: Nice place. Swimming more of a childrens/family pool.
Negative experience: Not big enough, not enough machines and fighting to get on the same equipment.people not cleaning equipment after use. Paying £38 a month and not able to use all facilities due to covid which I understand, but surely the price should be adjusted.
Fantastic experience: Very happy with a Gym, classes and sauna, Good wiling and nice staff... Highly Recomended
Fantastic experience: They are brilliant at keeping us all safe. We are really happy with the way its run
Fantastic experience: I've been using the gym at the leisure centre for years and its always been fab. But now they are doing everything in the gym very sensibly all equipment is spaced out for social distancing and everything needed to clean is available. I feel very safe coming
Fantastic experience: Excellent pandemic friendly precautions. Very clean now.
Fantastic experience: works well, i have only been in the pool but i consistently have good experiences
Fantastic experience: I was really surprised when I visited the new gym in Northallerton. Being a Zest Member I have mainly been visiting Bedale gym due to proximity. I decided to visit Northallerton because I sometimes wish to go to the gym late afternoon on a weekend but Bedale shuts at 3pm so Northallerton new 24 hour opening time policy worked out perfectly. I did have to go through a special induction as all the machines are different and more complex (in a good way). I am also going to purchase the new wristband which makes it possible to log onto each machine and track my progress. It will also make entry to the changing room easier as you can just scan it (saves you carrying your gym membership card around).
Positive experience: Op
Negative experience: Me and my family have come on holiday to Northallerton and me and my grandad just wanted to come here to use the gym and the pool. We wasn’t allowed to use the gym unless we became a member and did an introduction class. We was then told that the pool was open when it wasn’t.The staff was very rude and made no effort to accommodate us, Ruined my day completely.
Fantastic experience: A great pool and the kids always enjoy it
Positive experience: Very good activity swimming pool with wave machine, tube slide, waterfall and a tiny tots area. There are decent sized family changing rooms and plenty of hair dryers in the communal area. The siren sounding is a two minute warning that the wave machine is about to start up and when it does it runs for around 15 minutes. We were in the pool about an hour and half it kicked in twice during that time. Only dropped the 5th star as the changing rooms floor was really quite dirty when we arrived and, although this could just be due to some numpty walking around in muddy shoes, the dirt was still present when we were leaving. Good baths and we would go again.
Fantastic experience: Very good swimming pool. Just dont buy your swim stuff there its a fortune. X
Fantastic experience: Great friendly staff. Amazing things to do
