Osborne Hotel: Opinions
Positive experience: Same as hesketh spa.
Fantastic experience: I stayed here in June 2024. I have recommended it to all my friends. It's a lovely, adults only hotel. My room was great size, the pool was small but always had space, and the location is brilliant.
Thank you! We hope to see you again and glad you enjoyed your stay at The Osborne!
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel, would recommend
Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Came for an 80th birthday celebration. Fantastic food. 10/10 service.
Fantastic experience: Dropped into the Osborne for a dinner after going to the theatre cabaret at the Little Theatre. What to delightful entrance and warm greeting we got from Rachael, who looked after us all evening. Have to recommend the Osborne's very own "Acejace" cocktail, invented by their very skilled cocktail waiter Jason. A wonderful blend of complimentary spirits. Truly inspired. Served in a goldfish bowl, of a glass it took all our will power to only have two. Inventive and tasty meal in the restaurant as well.
Thank you for your kind words and we are glad you enjoyed your visit! we will pass on the message to our staff!
Fantastic experience: Oh mate, I wish to go back and stay there for another incredible and truly epic visit, with the mates! Anyone would enjoy being there, mate - no doubt about it, mate.
Fantastic experience: I just had my wedding there last weekend and I had the best time ever!! All the staff were so kind and helpful and ready for you whenever you need anything! Haidee, Katie and Emily especially made everything so relaxing and special for me! We will definitely be back soon! Thank you all for everything!
Thank you for your kind words! I will make sure to pass this on those mentioned! We hope to see you soon!
Fantastic experience: Planning a recent trip south I was looking for a room for a relaxing 1 night stay, WOW! This hotel was just what I needed. The staff were so helpful on arrival (as I'd accidentally booked a year in advance!) but all sorted a room was available, after a short walk from the hotel round the seaside walk I had a fabulous dinner in the restaurant. A very comfortable sleep in the room and a fabulous breakfast looking out to sea. Id highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
Thank you! We are glad you had a good time!
Fantastic experience: Excellent hotel with a great view of the bay
Thank you!! We hope you enjoyed your stay!
Fantastic experience: Went for a wedding nice location with views out to sea.
Thank you! We hope you enjoyed the wedding!
Negative experience: Disappointing stay. The sauna was not on during opening hours, which was disappointing. We were above the kitchen area, the staff started blaring rave music at 07:00 resulting in us waking up earlier than we would have liked. We went for breakfast which was overly priced and unsatisfactory. Finally, before we checked out we decided to take our luggage to the car and I put the do not disturb sign on the door. We went for our last swim, we returned back to the room to have a shower before our departure and the cleaning staff where already in the room cleaning, so we could not shower. We then decided to call it a morning and checked out. The redeeming factors where that the staff are friendly. Rooms are are clean and fresh. The bed and the pillows are comfortable. The pools are good. And the location is fantastic.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful hotel and one of the best locations for an English staycation. I stayed in a suite with my 6 year old. The area has a quiet beach with watersports available. It feels secluded but it's close enough to go into town, just over a mile away. Wonderful views across the bay from the hotel towards Brixham.
Thank you so much we hope you enjoyed your time here!
Positive experience: Don't know about the rooms but service and location are great
Thank you so much!
Fantastic experience: Beautiful....amazing views..amazing grounds...fantastic wedding venue...
It was a fantastic evening as well! We hope you enjoyed your time here and will be back!
Negative experience: All I can say is, it doesn't matter how nice your rooms or facilities may be if your guests are kept awake all night by a ridiculously loud sound system. 10:30pm and the floor is vibrating, apparently this goes on until 12:30am. Worst stay at a hotel I've ever had. The response you get from the general manager is basically that they think this is acceptable for a stay in a hotel. Had they warned us this was the norm for them then we never would have stayed in the first place. Just beware that to the managers of the Osborne hotel - the customer doesn't matter.
Hi there, We are truly sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay. We had a wedding the past weekend and, to ensure minimal disturbance to our other guests, we conducted regular decibel readings at 8, 9, and 10 PM. All readings were well below the permitted limits. Additionally, the music was stopped at 11 PM to further avoid any disruption. We would appreciate it if you could share more details about what disturbed you during the night, so we can investigate and prevent similar issues in the future. Thank you, The Osborne Team
Positive experience: Fantastic location, good cocktails and ok snacks. As usual no attention to detail… no umbrella/fruit or sprinkling of salt or sugar to make an £8.50 cocktail look special. This hotel has so much potential but never quite gets there.
Negative experience: Really gone downhill since staying there before. Seems that the business is focussed on large groups and events rather than the individual couples. Service at breakfast terrible, no plates, bread left in wrappers and orange squash rather than juice. Reception not welcoming. Overall more like a holiday camp experience.
Fantastic experience: Stopped for lunch which we enjoyed
Thank you! we hope to see you again!
Fantastic experience: On our recent visit to Meadfoot Beach we 'popped' into the Osborne Hotel for a cream tea. Great service, delicious scone eaten outside on the patio whilst enjoying the fabulous seaview. Perfect.
Thank you! We hope you enjoyed your afternoon!
Fantastic experience: Yesterday afternoon on the terrace was heavenly, enjoying the live music, lunch and drinks. Bella on the bar was excellent.
We are so happy you enjoyed your afternoon and the music! Thank you for your kind words :)
Negative experience: What a joke!! Don’t bother going for a swim in the indoor pool between 8-9pm. You’ll get locked in by 8:30pm, even though the pool is open until 9pm! So I was banging on the door for my rescue and a man walked past, and I screamed, “can you let me out” and the first thing he Can is, “Do I look like I work here” As you can imagine, I was absolutely fuming, and told him to go get someone to open the door for me. He walked off and went back upstairs to eat his dinner. What a psychopath.
Hi there, Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention regarding your recent experience at our facility. We deeply value feedback from our guests and take all comments seriously as we continuously strive to improve our services. After conducting a thorough investigation into the events of that evening, it appears that there may have been some Details missing from your side. Our review of the CCTV footage and discussions with our staff on duty that night have provided additional context that was not initially apparent. It has been confirmed that our staff followed standard procedure by conducting a loud vocal check in all changing rooms to notify guests that the swimming pool was being locked. Despite their efforts, it seems there was a lack of response, which led our staff to proceed with their cleaning duties assuming the area was clear. We understand that the changing rooms are relatively small, and any verbal announcements would typically be audible to occupants. We acknowledge your frustration at finding yourself apparently "locked" in the pool area for a period of time. Our team did release you promptly upon becoming aware of the situation, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please be assured that we have reinforced our procedures to ensure clearer communication in similar situations in the future. Additionally, we were disheartened to learn about the interaction you had with another guest during your time in our facility. The guest in question stated that you were shouting angrily and profanities at our guest who was willing to help you if you had not been verbally abusive towards them Once again, we appreciate your feedback and thank you for bringing these matters to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with the excellent experience that you rightfully expect from us.
Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic stay this last weekend 16-18 February 2024. Mark and his staff where wonderful the room was perfect for my trip. The food in the restaurant was amazing! Will be returning.
Fantastic experience: We spent a 3 day Xmas break at the Osborne and could not fault anything. The food was superb. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Becky was amazing and looked after us like we were family and made it a wonderful stay, Matt was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend a stay at the Osborne to anyone and look forward to visiting the hotel again soon.
We are so happy to hear you had a great stay! we will make sure to pass this message on to the staff involved. We look forward to seeing you again!
Negative experience: Spent the day here at a Charity function today. Very low quality food. Basic sandwich and salad and quiche and not enough to serve all the guests. 66 people attended, 70 were booked and paid for. When more food was requested, what arrived, after a very long wait,,was stale breadsticks and crudités without a dip. A teapot serving 2 small cups was given for our table of 7. When we asked for more tea we were told no more was allowed. Our hosts who hosted the event had to clear the tables themselves as the staff were nowhere to be seen. The hosts resorted to a supermarket trip themselves to feed the remaining guests. I have never seen such poor service. Supervisor was rude and unhelpful. Our hosts have kindly offered their guests a ticket refund- I sincerely hope the hotel do the right thing and refund our hosts! Such a shame for such a lovely location.
Dear Joanne, I'm truly sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at the charity function. Your feedback is incredibly valuable, and I want to assure you that we take your concerns seriously. This falls far below the standard of service we aim to provide, and I apologize for the inconvenience you and your fellow guests faced. I've shared your detailed feedback with our management and event staff to investigate and address the issues you've raised. We are committed to making things right and ensuring that incidents like these don't happen in the future. Your hosts' generosity in offering ticket refunds is appreciated, and we will work to ensure that the appropriate actions are taken to remedy the situation. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and I hope we have the opportunity to make amends in the future. Best regards, The Osborne Hotel Team
Fantastic experience: Talented chef sending out exceptionally tasty & good value Sunday lunches. Though obviously understaffed during a busy service, we were well looked after by Jason & Bella. Looking forward to next time!
Fantastic experience: We have just got married at The Osborne, what a day! From start to finish the service was first class, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was amazing with absolutely breath taking views. Room service food always arrived looking fresh and was hot. Special thanks to Haidee for helping it run so smoothly on the day, Jason for always having a big smile on his face, Carol for answering my many emails and Emily for being an all round nice human. What a team! Wish we could do it all again Vic & Kieron x
Dear Vic and Kieron, Thank you so much for your heart-warming review! We are absolutely delighted to hear that your wedding day at The Osborne was a memorable and joyful experience from start to finish. Your kind words about our service, the breathtaking views from your room, and the delicious room service food mean the world to us. We are incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated team, and it's wonderful to hear that Haidee, Jason, Carol, and Emily made your special day even more remarkable. They truly exemplify the commitment we have to providing exceptional service to our guests. We completely understand your sentiment of wanting to do it all over again – your happiness and satisfaction are what we strive for. We hope that the memories of your special day at The Osborne will bring you endless joy in the years to come. Thank you once again for choosing us for your wedding celebration. We wish you a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and beautiful moments together. Warmest regards, Everyone here at The Osborne x
Positive experience: Small room, shower difficult to get right temperature but lovely building
Thankyou for your feedback. I have passed along the concerns you have raised to our department managers. We hope you will return to our hotel in the not too distant future.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely stay at the Osborne Hotel, booked a family room for myself my wife & son. The room was very spacious and bathroom was sparkling clean. The hotel in general had a resort feel with outdoor pool and scenic Seaview, it did help that we had nice summer weather, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the lady who cleaned our room was also amazing and very helpful. The only bad thing I can say is there was no aircon in the rooms or a mini fridge. Putting that aside would definitely stay here again!
Thankyou for your lovely feedback! I have passed along you comments to the relevant managers. We hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the not too distant future.
Fantastic experience: I only use the Terrace for the great food and drinks and lovely view. The staff are always very pleasant but unbelievably slow, and they appear to have had no training at all. The food was great though and the chef kept calm and seemed happy, working very hard during a constantly busy and very hot evening.
Thank you for your review! Your comments have been passed to the relevant managers who will look into the points you have raised. If you wish to discuss your stay with us further please do not hesitate to contact us.
Negative experience: We were really looking forward to our week here in a sea-view room, but it was totally spoiled by the poorly-trained and uninterested staff we encountered every day, at reception, at breakfast service and on the terrace. Our top floor room was very large and had a nice view, but the bathroom was a bit tatty. The shower was hopeless - providing just a dribble of water despite their being a noisy pump under the bath. Oh, did I mention we had to shower over the bath? WTH? The mattress was past its best and the pillows were unsupportive, so not the best night's sleep. Our room was serviced daily, but resupply of coffee and biscuits was erratic - some days we got, some we didn't. Being on the third floor meant we preferred to use the lift - it's the oldest, slowest, clunkest machinery we've come across. The worst part and what ruined our stay was the staff. All the staff we met appeared overworked and unhappy - we even heard arguing amongst them on two occasions. One evening we sat fifteen minutes on the terrace waiting for service while four of them had a chat in the bar not ten feet away. Breakfast service was a hit-or-miss joke as the quality of meals varied every day. All the staff we spoke with were impolite when dealing with guests and clearly have had no customer service training. We can't recommend and we'd never go back.
Thank you for your review! Your comments have been passed to the relevant managers who will look into the points you have raised. If you wish to discuss your stay with us further please do not hesitate to contact us.
Fantastic experience: Just home from our wedding, what a weekend. The whole thing ran like clockwork - a magical experience. Massive thanks to all the staff who were amazing, but a special mention to Jason, Haydee and Jessica- who probably holds the world record for most espresso martinis made in a weekend .
Thank you for your amazing rating! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely awesome hotel great staff great outdoors drink and food area and lovely views. Food hear was fantastic highly recommended
Thank you for your amazing review! We look forward to welcoming you back to The Osborne in the not too distant future.
Negative experience: Although the building is in a beautiful location the maintenance levels of the building are very poor. We stayed in a junior suit, the overall cleanliness was ok although the dust was heavy behind sofas and a kettle full of water from a previous guess is a big no no. We found furniture water swollen, rotten windows, light bulbs not working, wallpaper pealing everywhere you look, holes in bedding and sheets in the room alone. In public areas we found a constant smell in one of the stairwell to find collapsed roof with rotten laths and lintels visible. The decor in the restaurant was questionable and dated. The staff was pleasant but we had to walk around a lunch room service tray in the corridor for nearly 24 hours until we left. Breakfast was standard. The young lady running the sitting was very polite and attentive. All in all the low standards within the rooms and building is not reflected in the price of the rooms. We have stayed in better quality room in large chains. Overall we came away disappointed.
Thank you for your review! Your comments have been passed to the relevant managers who will look into the points you have raised. If you wish to discuss your stay with us further please do not hesitate to contact us.
Positive experience: Gorgeous location with phenomenal view. Room was very spacious and bathroom was lovely included bath a shower. However beds were so uncomfortable, could feel springs. Ended up sleeping on the floor second night. I was there for a wedding and the service was awful unfortunately meals came out cold and were flavourless. Such long delays between meals. Then the bar was under staffed long waits or no one behind the bar. All the staff were very lovely just not enough staff. The bridesmaids started clearing tables between meals. Location is stunning though just don't think was organised enough.

Positive experience: Hotel was ok just wasn’t happy about the 100 deposit you have let your card take as pending until you get checked out I think it was bit to high for a hotel of that standard
Thank you for your review! Our pre-authorisation policy can be found on website along with all booking platforms. If you wish to discuss your stay with us further please do not hesitate to contact us.
Positive experience: Very pleasant and helpful staff ensure this well maintained property’s success. Fabulous outlook and spacious rooms throughout. Would have given 5 stars but poor dining experience prevented me
Thank you for your lovely review! We hope to welcome you back soon.
Negative experience: Great for a view and nothing else. Be warned, no disabled toilets at all and hide behind the fact they are grade 2 listed. No advertisement of this and clearly don't care when they dismiss you. Bar staff almost seem high on drugs when placing an order for drinks. Can't pour a pint and ends up flat and delivered nicely cold chips to the table. AVOID
Dear Mr Ballington, We take umbrage to the accusation that our that our bar staff are “high on drugs” and would like to assure you that this is not the case. I apologise that your pint was flat and chips cold, I will raise this with the relevant managers who will look into this and address these points. I would like to point out that our access statement and access audit is available for all to see on our website. We do not hide behind our listing and have made many reasonable physical adaptations where possible. The Osborne Hotel complies with the access requirements of local disability legislation. Our Duty Manager did attempt to have a conversation about your visit, but unfortunately you became quite aggressive and loud, to the point that staff members came to reception as they could hear you in other departments. It is unfortunate that you feel that we have not met your expectations, but we feel that your review does not properly portray the events of the day, nor the situation at the hotel.
Negative experience: Rude attitude! I had booked and prepaid two rooms at the Osborne Hotel in June 2022 for a road trip with my elderly mother. The day we were heading for Torquay, my spouse had a severe car accident back home and was hospitalized in emergency, so we abandoned the travel plans and headed back. I immediately phoned the hotel to let them know that we wouldn’t be able to come and explained the situation. All the receptionist replied to me was „So you won’t be needing your room then. Bye.“ and hung up on me. I was shocked about this reaction I felt was cold and inappropriate, so I contacted the management by e-mail a few days later to get their point of view. Guess what, they think this behavior of their staff is perfectly normal! Jade Ellis wrote to me that the person I had talked to on the phone was "one of our most complimented receptionists who has been with us a long time now, her customer service and character has never been a concern for us before". She added a lecture on how they would not refund any money, mind you I had never even asked for it! I find it a pity how little they care about the lack of basic empathy of their staff.
Dear Kevin S, I have looked back at your cancellation from June 2022 and have gone over the correspondence. As stated in the email sent to you on the 28th June 2022, a discussion was had with the receptionist on duty that handled your cancellation. Reading the email sent to yourself, no where does is state that we believe that this behaviour of staff is perfectly normal. Pointing out that the receptionist on duty was one of our most complimented members of the reception team, was a statement of shock of the accusation made against her. There was no lecture of you not receiving a refund, the terms and conditions of the rate you had booked were just reiterated to you, then advise was offered on what steps you could take to attempt to recoup lost funds. If you would like to discuss this matter further please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful hotel and amazing view . Excellent customer service and fabulous staff, very welcoming. I would definitely stay in this hotel again. Thank you
Thank you for your amazing feedback. We are happy to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us, and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Osborne Hotel in the not too distant future.
Negative experience: Won't be staying again. The night of my wedding so we turn up at midnight (as arranged and confirmed twice) but cant find any staff! Called the duty manager 5 times but it was just a phone behind reception. Walked around the areas looking for staff and couldn't find one for 25mins until we went into a Staff Only area! Then once in the room got called twice for a key deposit and about ordering breakfast room service, which isn't clear. Room was nice but I wouldn't pay for the extra square meters as its just a big empty bathroom. Also, £35 for a bottle of prosecco in the room is pretty expensive.
Thank you for your feedback. I apologise that you did not enjoy your stay with us. I have sent you an email on May 2nd regarding the points you have raised. If you would like to discuss this further please contact us directly.
Negative experience: I hate to write bad reviews and as I order a cup of tea here and showed my cup to them the milk was off. They took my cup away poured me some fresh milk and asked if I wanted a cup? Seriously!!! I then thought I'll order some food to find everything is just cooked from frozen only thing that wasn't was the fish. This is pretty poor for a 4 star hotel to be serving food of such poor quality and frozen to its customers. I bet they would serve chef Ramsey this. I think its a nice hotel but they need to cook food from fresh or lose customers. All my reviews are based on my own experiences and I believe you can not call a chef a chef until he or she cook proper food not frozen from fresh and make a meal themselves. Let face it anyone can cook food from frozen and in fact cooking at home is now better than eating out its just poor quality for an expensive price.
I apologise for the service received on this occasion. I do not understand why it was even questioned if you would want a new cup?! The whole drink should have been replaced. Most of the food is fresh, however there are elements that are frozen, which you do get in most establishments. I am sorry you think this is inadequate or poor quality. I hope this does not put you off returning to the Osborne Hotel. I appreciate the feedback and we will strive to improve on these aspects. Food & Beverage Manager
Fantastic experience: Had a afternoon tea to celebrate our Aunts 90th, very good
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit and look forward to hopefully welcoming you back soon.
Negative experience: Extremely poor mattress. You can really feel sharp edges of the the springs and wake up with a body pain. They had kept expired cereal boxes for buffet breakfast. Chocolate pancakes had watered down chocolate syrup which had very bad after taste. Indoor swimming pool was stinking badly of chlorine, it was difficult to stand there even for 2 mins forget going into the water. Room kettle had dirty water in it and the milk sachets in the room were expired. Only good points are the location and kind staff.
Positive experience: Nice hotel with a great view. Includes tennis court and view point. Rooms are kept clean and are a good size en suite. Good gym and swimming pool, however sauna was broken on our trip and no steam room. One thing about the rooms was that both the rooms we had didn't have any coverage for EE or 3, and the WiFi was extremely poor and wouldn't work sometime if too many people were using it. This causes problem as we can't make calls in the room and WhatsApp voice calls were poor quality. Overall good stay but WiFi and coverage was the main issue.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful hotel. Does real justice to its location by the sea. It was off season but we were really well looked after. The room was great - warm and spacious. The staff couldn't do enough for you. The breakfasts were brilliant All in all an ideal place to stay. Probably very busy in the summer abd parking could be a problem. Excellent!
Negative experience: We attend the hotel regularly for my sons swimming lessons. Despite the establishment being pleasant, i can only draw the conclusion that the staff and management are incompetent. There is a smart parking system operated onsite where this particular day I was unable to log my vehicle on the system, to now receive a PCN of £100 for unauthorised parking. I called the hotel once receiving this to make them aware, explaining how i was legitimately parked and reception were unhelpful, unable to put me in touch with management, gave me what seemed a generic email and told "it will be passed on" - to receive no reply. After appealing direct with the parking company I am told the fine will be upheld. Thanks for your concern Osbourne Hotel. Customers beware if you use this hotel you might be giving a large parking tip!!!!!! With no valet service
Fantastic experience: A lovely little hotel. Some things are a little dated, but decent value for money and a great place to get away to.
Positive experience: Rooms a little dated but clean with a wonderful view bistro food very good, staff helpful and friendly. Would stay here again
Fantastic experience: Had a couple of nights here with friends. Staff very helpful and friendly. Food deliouse. Indoor pool great. Bedroom amazing with a sea view.
Positive experience: up graded to a family room as the one I had booked was not ready when they said it was ,good in one way as the family room was very spacious ,staff very friendly the view from our room was stunning, hotel in General could do with a little tlc would stay there again
Positive experience: Looks stunning on the outside and amazing views. I had a back room so terrible veiw of the yard. Bed was spring matress divan which went flat as I sat on it. Shower water took minimum 10mins to warm. About 15-20min walk to main town.
Negative experience: Impossible to get a parking spot to drop off luggage at this hotel-what a nightmare- but when one eventually does find one; then they FINE you for parking there! And one cannot appeal how is that! Signage up everywhere warning not to park there for longer than 20 minutes. I swear we were parked there for about 10 minutes but received a hefty fine in the post already by the time we returned home- go to another hotel there are plenty in the area.
Negative experience: The only thing going for this hotel is it’s sea view. Really unsure how they can advertise as 4 star. It’s run down, dated and absolutely stinking. You can see the only clean in between guests is a bed change. We raised our concerns whilst there and they admitted staffing issues and lack of support/acknowledgment of complaints from the management above. Felt really sorry for the deputy manager Ethan and the reception staff. They all looked a bit spirit broken! Having to deal with all the complaints (we witnessed several complaints whilst there) with no support. Either they have no money to invest or they are choosing not to - sadly it’s a sinking ship and we won’t be returning. No hot water , very Luke warm at best. Heavily stained carpets (looked like blood in some areas) bathroom not cleaned, dangerous bathroom cleaning products left out (COSHH regulations gone out the window here!) kettle stinking dirty inside and out with milk sprayed all over it - just a few concerns which you wouldn’t even be okay with in a 2 star….
Fantastic experience: We have just had our wedding here and also stayed for 4 nights. All the staff were lovely, went above and beyond to make it the most perfect day, the rooms were clean, house keeping team came everyday to our room and was fantastic and also very friendly. The food was also amazing. This really is top hotel, one of the best we have stayed in.
Fantastic experience: Only had tea on the terrace , but views from here are stunning, we were lucky it was such a beautiful day , Tea on the Terrace is an outside tea room for anyone , directly opposite the hotel entrance ,you dont have to be resident at the hotel, and you can use the hotel toilets .
Negative experience: Very disappointed that after posting a letter to the restaurant manager some two months ago, I did not even receive a reply. Locals matter too, especially when we frequent the terrace for meals every summer and even held our wedding there.
Negative experience: The hotel is listed as a 4 star. It has the potential to be a beautiful hotel. The location is lovely and the building is also lovely. Unfortunately the facilities and interior miss the 4 Star mark by a country mile. The hotel is tatty, the decoration and paintwork is in desperate need of re doing. In the bathroom there is nowhere to put anything. I had to resort to putting my toiletries and clothes on the floor. My room requirements as per the booking where not provided. I had to wait while it was re configured as it had been missed off the “list” On a plus side the staff where very friendly. Disappointing is the word I would use to describe it. If you want a genuine 4 star don’t book this hotel.
Fantastic experience: Came for lunch with our dogs and enjoyed fantastic food with sea views. Couldn't believe the quality of food and location at fantastic prices.
Negative experience: Ok how do I start the rooms have not got numbers they called after locations in devon so good luck finding your room . After finding ours it was dirty hair in Bath, bed and a lot on the bathroom floor. After a complaint I was showed to another room which the lady was confused in finding . After a quick look in bathroom it looked clean enough so I dumped my bag and when off to meet my party. On return this is what I found see pics wallpaper hanging off no lock on door window sash broken hook on door missing. The reason for 2 stars is the lady's on reception they are very polite
Positive experience: Love this hotel but the room needed some TLC. Wallpaper peeling, easily fixable, tempted to do it myself. Breakfast was busy but very good. Only frustration was the sense of self entitlement from some other guests. The outside bar & terrace give the best view in Torbay.
Negative experience: Sorry to say but what a disappointment. From the sad unkept state of the rooms. To the cleanliness. Only one member of staff seem to acknowledge the responsibility of his job and was very apologetic about the state of my room (John). There was no one to replenish and clean your room due to a shortage of staff apparently. Even though I was here for 8 days. Even had to take out own rubbish. I'm not sure why they think they are entitled to continue to charge nearly £1300 for a shabby carpet/wall/cushion stained room. (Don't get me started. Too many things to mention) No wonder they charged prior to arrival. I didn't have any meal plan either. This price was for room with view of unkept court yard only. It's such a shame as from the exterior it's amazing in a fantastic scenic area. Sorry Osborne hotel but you are the first bad hotel review I've ever had to write for Devon and I use hotels in this area about 6 times a year.
Positive experience: My first experience of The Osbourne was when I rang them directly to book a room two weeks before our stay. I got a better deal directly rather than through any online site. John the head porter answered as Jade the receptionist was on a break. John was superbly helpful on the phone and answered all the questions I had. Then I called Jade later. She sent me pictures of the room and bathroom as I’m disabled - Jade was also very through and kind in her manner. In fact we found the whole team that we interacted with at the hotel to be very nice, kind and helpful. I’d like to thank, Jade, John, Tracey, Carol, Annette, Becky. Drew, Adam and also Adam the night porter. On arrival I could see the posters everywhere to register our car number plate on the tablet in reception which Jade witnessed me doing so if we have any issues then at least I’ll have some support. You can register this once for the duration if your stay, however I did occasionally redo it in case of system issues. When we went up to our room I could immediately see maintenance issues on the way. It’s quite obvious that the housekeeping team is short staffed and there are even posters around the building stating so. In our bathroom the sink had come away from the wall and the sink hot tap was broken, generally the room was a little dusty. e.g: the phone handset and the 80’s radio alarm on the bedside tables were very dusty. I have to say though, that the sink was “suitably” fixed by the next afternoon as I had reported it to Jade. Our “new” rain shower over the bath had quite a weak flow. On housekeeping, whenever we asked for towels, toilet rolls or for the room to be serviced it was done, I think the issue people will have is that you have to ask for things. On the first night we met Becky in the restaurant who was lovely throughout our stay as was Drew. We had a lovely chicken supreme meal with starters and dessert. For muslims who require it, the chicken served is halal. Jade confirmed this with the head chef for us. The starter of prawn cocktail I’d describe as tasty but poorly put together with watery shrimps. The mains and dessert though were excellent. We ate again at the hotel restaurant a few nights later in our stay. Our eight year old daughter used the indoor and outdoor pools and enjoyed these throughly along with daily use of the children’s play area. The Osbourne is situated in a quieter, more upmarket area of Torquay. It’s positioning is beautiful. It has immense potential to be a profit generator but it just seems like it lacks the easy things within its operation, housekeeping and maintenance being the main thing. There were small red dots around our carpet which I’m hoping weren’t blood, however even if I had reported this, it wouldn’t have been fixable. Cobwebs around our room ceiling, bathroom silicone was applied very messily when the sink was fixed etc. Our bed had springs you could easily feel through the sheet. I also feel that hotels shouldn’t put the bed sheet directly on top of the mattress, they should use a mattress protector which should be laundered after every check in. These things just require a little care. The hotel clearly attracts an upper market clientele but it’s this segment of client that has more of an eye for detail and are more discerning. I’d say 10/10 for the staff and their efforts to make the customer happy but 5/10 for the infrastructure.
Fantastic experience: Went there for tea and meet friends we sat on the Terrace a lovely view of Thatcher Rock a lovely setting
Fantastic experience: We have been here many times for informal lunch over a long period of time, but more recently at the outdoors terraced restaurant, just by the pool and tennis court. Simple menu as the food preparation is done in an adjacent tent, but appropriate choices and drinks to cater for all ages. Gets busy on hot days, but we've always managed to find a seat under a sun-shade without booking, and as non-residents. Friendly staff, good value, incredible views. Parking spaces - but must register number at the bar. Great place to relax.
Negative experience: Dreadful. Popped in for coffee & cake at the terrace as was wanting to see if the venue would be suitable for a birthday meal in August. Waited to be served as table service - no one came, went up to the bar to be informed it was table service. Ordered a latte and capaccino. The latte was filter coffee with some froth on top and the capaccino was filter coffee with a different froth on top. Not good for coffee and cake. Would certainly not recommend and will definitely not be visiting again - sorry. Picture of latte !!!!
Positive experience: I visit and stay at the apartment with my family often which includes my grandchildren However on this last visit we had an attempted break in from the back door. It scared the life out of all of us The children and the mum especially. We were later told that it was a drunken man who has missed his door though we found that hard to believe However I will stilll go but will not stay on the ground floor especially the rear apartments with back door
Positive experience: Rooms are very dated need money spent on them. A member of my party the window in her room 1 pane smashed loose glass another severely cracked. Windows didn't stay open in any of the rooms. Expensive for drinks.
Fantastic experience: Love this place! I will 100% return again, great views and attentive staff with nice afternoon tea on the terrace overlooking the sea. Would recommend
Negative experience: Tired rooms, poor food quality & worse customer service. Staff seem to expect guests to know what's going on without any help & got the same 'holier-than-thou' attitude from almost all members of staff. Was once an incredible place to stay, but that was MANY years ago. A massive shame as this place has been frequented by Agatha Christie & Charles Darwin in years gone by. But hey, there a still a few amazing 4* hotels in Torquay....
Fantastic experience: i liked this hotel. Sea view room , cafe and beach 3 minutes away is magnificent . The hotel is very clean and renovated. The only thing I am not satisfied with is the breakfast. other than that it's really a nice place for a short vacation. I advise.
Positive experience: Can’t comment on the hotel but went for lunch on the terrace. The burger was around £13 I believe (double beef burger with bacon) The quality of the beef burgers weren’t the best, tasted a bit cheap and greasy Fries were nice and onion rings were basic Amazing view and that is what you pay for I would go again but wouldn’t order the burger
Fantastic experience: Great place to get away from it all with a little bit of tradition and comfort. Fantastic views across Torquay Bay makes you feel you could be anywhere on the Mediterranean coast.... when the sun shines ☀️☀️
Fantastic experience: Beautiful view to enjoy a drink, but not enough staff, very long wait to be served . Don't go if you haven't got 2hs to spare.
Negative experience: Avoid the health and fitness centre! A complete scam to empty your pockets! My partner wanted to join a gym and in the past I had been a member here so recommended it. After enquiring she was invited to go and look around. Keen to enrol she then took my sister the next day to show her so they could join together and the following day they both enrolled and bought membership. For the pleasure of being showcased the venue and taking out two memberships we now have THREE £100 parking fines. When they asked about parking during their visits and signing up they were reassured by the chap who dealt with showing them the facilities and enrolling them (Shaun I think) that all will be ok and once they are members the registration of the car will be recognised and not to worry about it. When taken up with reception they say there is nothing they can do about it other than write is a letter to take to a third party to appeal but not to expect any joy. The Marketing director must be so proud of how new customers are tricked into spending money with you.
Negative experience: Booked lunch on line in the restaurant for 1.30 for 2 for an anniversary. On arrival complete dismay that we had booked the restaurant as there was a wedding on with food being served to the wedding guests at 1.30. As there was no one eating in the restaurant we asked to sit on the Terrace and were told we could have the restaurant menu. It turned out that because of the wedding we could only choose from the Terrace menu. If not for the views I would have given one star as the food was typical pub grub. The hotel had my phone number and email address and could easily have informed me that the restaurant would not be serving food at 1.30 ( if at all that lunchtime). Nice place for a drink when the sun shines.
Positive experience: Was a really nice hotel but the room I was in I couldn't get an internet signal even with wi fi also my mobile network I couldn't even make or receive calls I did complain to the customer service but they said some rooms it's like that but they should mention it that depending on what net work you with you may not be able to use your phone or internet I'm with 3 network my mrs with Vodafone she also had no phone or internet service in the room so if you rely on your phone and need it to work in the bedroom is have 2nd thoughts but if I on other hand not being able to use your phone in bedroom doesn't bother you then it's worth booking I was more worried about people not being able to get hold of me in an emergency!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely brilliant! Allways wanted to stay here. Great staff, so helpful and friendly. Pool and sauna is great. Food is next level. Overall can't fault and will be back!
Positive experience: Have a time share so use the hotels facilities. The food is good but quite expensive. Lovely warm swimming pool.
Positive experience: Breathtaking views, well kept grounds. Staff were really friendly. Room was extremely clean and recently refurbished.
Positive experience: This was a nice stay for the weekend. I few bits were broken. The bedside light and the sauna. I wasnlooking forward very much to a sauna so this was disappointing. The lady that booked us in on the Friday was lovely. The house keeping lady's who had a European accent was particularly lovely and helpful too . The place has a modern look. It's not one of those Dusty looking dated hotels. Breakfast could have done with a vegan option. Towels were nice. Beds were very comfy and well made. I wanted to eat dinner there but it was valentines weekend and for 3 days they only served valentines set meal which was £40 a head. Myself and my son were staying here and after long walks on the cliffs a hearty it was a shame that we couldn't just grab a basic meal if just 1 course. We instead offered a just eat to our room.
Fantastic experience: Just returned from a 2 night stay here in a sea view family room. We were not disappointed at all, the room was immaculate, the view spectacular. The staff can not do enough for you and the service is excellent. The breakfast was quality produce with plenty of choice for a hot and cold breakfast and was delicious and the dining room staff were very efficient. We used the swimming pool and sauna which the children enjoyed. The only thing that we was not aware of before the trip was the £25 per person per night holding fee that is charged to your card on arrival, this was £200 for our family of 4, luckily we had enough to cover this and it didn't effect our spending budget for the weekend. I think that this should be mentioned on booking before arrival for visitors to budget for. Other than that i would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning soon.
Negative experience: Having just left this hotel at 2am after finding disgusting stains all over the bed frame, cushions and mattress, cobwebs, scaffolding obscuring a “sea view”, flaking window frames, and blood and other stains on the towels, we raised this to the duty manager, we were moved to apparently the “best room in the hotel”. In this room there was also stains on the bed and after raising it once again with the duty manager, who was more worried about interrupting his sleep and wouldn’t be sorting a refund until the morning, we had had enough and was forced to stay 10 minutes down the road in a chain hotel, in a bed with no stains, at a fraction of the cost with fantastic customer service! The only positive about this experience was the night receptionist was friendly and understanding. I question when the hotel was awarded the “4*” status as it certainly would not meet these standards now! My advice would be save your money and don’t stay here!
Negative experience: Bathroom smelt of sewage. Mattresses were very poor quality, with the springs clunking when you moved. Also damp patches on the ceiling. Indoor pool was ok, and the sauna was a total waste of time. Food in the restaurant was terrible, we paid £15 for what looked like a frozen pizza. But the breakfast was ok. That was the first and last time I go there!
Fantastic experience: What a wonderful place to stay had a sea view room and the view was amazing. Staff very friendly only had breakfast but good choice and quality of food . Would definitely stay there again.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Great location right on the beach. Room was clean, big and stocked with amenities. The food in the restaurant was tasty. I loved the Bar! Will definitely go here again
Fantastic experience: Stunning views from the terrace. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast and clean rooms. Very comfy beds. Easy walking distance into town.
Fantastic experience: Lovely views over the bay. Amazing to lookout from your room to see the sea. Nicely decorated rooms all well maintained & furnished. Parking in grounds. Access to beach. Made our holiday special.
Positive experience: Lovely staff and service and good breakfast however the lift is out of use so alot of the elderly struggled which isn't good. The hotel itself is quite run down compared to how it used to be.not enough seating in the bar area. Only three tables so only space for six people. It might be a small detail but when I asked for an Irish coffee the staff had no idea what I was talking about.not the staffs fault just lack of training. Rooms however Comfortable and clean.
Positive experience: Good location, good accommodation and staff, Great value. Sorry to say evening restaurant menu limited and overpriced in relation to standard of both starter and main course.
Positive experience: If you want to feel like in an Agatha Christie story (with no crime, bien sûr!!) Then I recommend Osborne hotel in Torquay. The building is gorgeous Edwardian style(not so sure) but impressive looking. My room was very comfy, the bed was great to sleep, everything clean and lovely staff. Breakfast was gorgeous, it really worth to pay, there is a buffet of cereals, drinks, yoghurt and fruits. As a main I asked for Benedict Eggs(fantastic). All you can drink coffee and tea. I didn't give five stars because the pool and sauna were not open(repairs) and I was expecting to use these facilities. WiFi was slow and during the morning there was none for about an hour. I would like to come back and hopefully the pool and sauna will be able to use.
Positive experience: Lovely staff. Great old building. Some renewal and renovations might be in order.
Fantastic experience: Great hotel, ideally situated. Breakfast was superb. Some rooms a little dated, but the views are great.
Positive experience: Very civilised. Decent wine list and grand views from the Terrace bar. I didn't even feel like too much of an oik.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful elegant facade overlooking the sea, lovely clean room with very big comfortable bed. Every member of staff was very nice and friendly but professional, would definitely go back again
Positive experience: Beautiful outside area, but unfortunately no food available, and when i asked if i could order food from the restaurant to be served outside i was told no by a cocky hotel staff member, who made it very clear my custom was not welcome,
Fantastic experience: Wonderful stay at a lovely hotel. Attended a wedding as well as stayed. Lovely food and well priced drinks.
Fantastic experience: Great location, great staff, the apartment was spotless ( well done housekeeping) The outdoor bar staff were lovely too. Will definitely be returning and recommending.
Negative experience: I don't like to give bad reviews but I did not enjoy the stay. The hotel looks a bit ran down. I was expecting way more for the price. Just needs a refresh.
Positive experience: A beautiful hotel, in a truly amazing sea front location A wonderful outdoor patio area with outdoor bar just add to this hotels brilliance Staff and food are utterly brilliant as well Some areas of the hotel do need some TLC, but that doesn't take away how great this hotel is
Fantastic experience: Our yearly vacation was amazing as always. Staff are friendly & happy to help. The Hotel & local area is perfect for all ages. Highly recommended
