Fantastic experience: Nice gym, very roomy and helpful staff

Negative experience: I use this gym and lot of machine don’t work and staff don’t bother or rude needs a lot of rapier’ and cleaning carpert smells

Positive experience: Decent gym for the price. A nice range of equipment that is maintained well. Broken machines get fixed pretty fast. Peak times can be frustrating but thankfully the gym is 24hr and off peak is quiet. The major downside is there are quite a few gym goes that stink to high heaven. It’s quite bad you can smell them across the gym and it is quite big.

Positive experience: I go this gym daily. Really good gym but giving 3 stars. The treadmills and stepper machines look like they never get cleaned, they are very dusty and I have noticed there are tissues and other things stuck inside some of the cup holders for months, clearly no one cleans it. The showers are clean but have a really foul like fishy smell, & the water pressure and temperature is different in every cubicle so some are really too hot and others barely any water pressure and cool.

Fantastic experience: First time here, great space great kit, a lot of gym for not too bad a price!

Negative experience: Quite possibly the worst JD gym I’ve ever been to. Missing free weights, a small option of machines some of which are broken, and you can only use the gym ONCE a day even though the membership is meant to be unlimited.

Positive experience: The gym is good overall, especially if you can avoid peak hours. For some activities, there are few machines, which can be a problem depending on the time, as the equipment you want might be taken. If you can go during off-peak times, it’s great, but otherwise, it can be frustrating.

Fantastic experience: Nice clean gym, loads of equipment

Negative experience: I’ve been going to jd gym in Batley for a while now and the PT trainers are so rude especially one named Alex Fitz he has a issue with me as he has made funny comments towards me in the past which was sorted by the manager and we shook on it ! However today I was in the gym and I was on the bench I left my phone and keys beside the bench just to nip upstairs to get some water when I came back Alex was on my bench I told him I’m on here he replied (since when) I said you can see my phone and keys there he started going on which at this point I called the manager and I explained everything the manager spoke to him and he was very rude which he told me to leave the gym and he said I work here & im not bothered which at this point things got heated and I walked away

Negative experience: In 16 years of using gyms this by far is the worst one I've encountered. Excrement in the shower, full of kids under 16, equipment broken for weeks on end, full of people lacking basic hygiene and spacial awareness. Avoid.

Fantastic experience: As an old school gym goer I would scoff at the new generation of corporate gyms appearing. Vowing never to use one, however circumstances dictated I had to use one and I chose JD Gym Batley. My expectations weren’t particularly high but from day one I was impressed with the facilities. Sauna, shower and training facilities were all spot on. I settled in and it was then I discovered the real gems within the gym. I hold special regard for Abby, Miah, Amber and Tez. These guys are absolute solid diamonds and the heart of the gym as far as I’m concerned. They are huge assets to the JD family and without them there is no soul to JD Gym Batley. In particular Abby and Amber, or as I call them The A Team are wonderful human beings. They make my visits to the gym that bit more special. They are always smiling, always say nice things and generally put me in a good frame of mind. Well done guys, you are really special and dare I say I can’t imagine the gym without you guys there.

Negative experience: I like this gym but it's so unclean, with mats covered in sand. The area for pilates is big but the floor is awfully dirty the staff ignores this feedback but when you lying on the floor covered in sand and dirt it makes you feel disgusting and stop taking any classes in this gym Please find a good cleaner otherwise ppl will stop coming and your rating will go badly dawn

Negative experience: The gym seriously needs more cleaners and staff considering the amount of people in the gym. The staff service is poor and the hygiene is extremely filthy. Theres always sweat on the machines and there’s no tissues or sanitising stations anywhere. Everytime I go to the male toilets its always clogged and filthy and does not have soap in. Seriously hire more staff and cleaners, and put some tissues and sanitisers around,you need it if you are a high maintenance gym! Otherwise the variety of machines are good.

Positive experience: Great equipment, nice JD burn area. Would be good to add some equipment as there's still a lot of space that would help during the peak hours. The annoying thing is the kids at that gym keep asking "how many sets, how many sets, how many sets". Just do your stuff and don't ask people every 5 seconds "how many sets". In good old times, kids like them were kicked out from gyms, especially from the top gym Muscle Factory in Bradford.

Negative experience: All I could smell was fishy fannys in that sauna it’s full of girls sweat and they look ugly too not the best of kind and the worker just goes in the shower and makes it even worse by leaving a pool of pee on the floor place is a joke

Negative experience: A very poor gym experience at Batley this morning. I was on the concept 2 skierg and was working towards a certain goal. I was interrupted mid way through my exercise to be told by the Member of staff he needed the Skierg for a circuit. I said I had an hour left to be told 'sorry I need the machine for the class'. I left the machine absolutely fuming and then went on the rowing machine to see only 2 people doing a circuit and using the skierg for around 5 minutes during the entire session. If you need to use the skierg as part of a circuit I understand but to stop me for 2 other members does not make any sense. You wouldn't go and tell someone to get off the treadmill or weights bench half way through a set. I pay my membership to train and if you need more skierg machines then please place them outside the burn area. Some of the machines need to be replaced or recovered the bicep curl machine is in a right mess.

Fantastic experience: Great selection of gym equipment available. Can be crowded at times.

Positive experience: Everything the average gym goer needs and plenty of equipment. Main drawbacks are probably caused by a small number of people. They can't seem to remember to put anything they've used back! Cleanliness could be better but again more the people that go not able to put their own rubbish in the bin. There's a really big car park but for some reason people can't park in the spaces and have to get as close to the door as possible, ironic considering parking further would be exercise. Disabled spaces are reserved for people with a personalised number plate, land rover Discovery, AMG mercedes etc. None of this is JD, but it does spoil it a bit.

Negative experience: went into the showers after a workout and they were way too hot to the point where it felt like it was burning my skin never again

Fantastic experience: I love the fact that the gym has “ladies only” area where I can use a lot of machines and not worry that there are 20+ people judging me. The gym itself has lots of areas to use and it’s well equipped and maintained.

Positive experience: Decent gym....terrible hygiene in the showers and changing rooms though....most staff are brilliant except a couple that think they own the gym....

Positive experience: This changing room door is broken from a long time now and they didn’t fix it. There is always something broken but they takes ages to repair it

Fantastic experience: Came here for the first time last week and enjoyed it so much more than my usual jd gym in Bradford. It’s very clean and spacious, changing rooms are always clean as well. None of the machines were broken/ there was a maintenance man checking if all the machines in ladies section work when I went today. It has all the equipment you could possibly need. Very happy x

Fantastic experience: Spacious, 24hr gym. Has everything you need.

Positive experience: ..often overcrowded even in the middle of the night...often the tools are worn out and damaged, this club needs a lot of repairs and the question is about the showers, do they work at night too??? whether it is often closed .. it shouldn't happen... tools are rarely disinfected... unpleasant smell .. adult children come to work out .. disturbing others while exercising... it's not supposed to be a park for throwing balls and jumping, only a gym .. . True???

Negative experience: This gym is perfect if your a teenager and want to go with 7 of your mates and hang about the machines, otherwise its just not good enough, generic machines which arent sufficient in quality or quantity, badly maintained. Spend the money somewhere else.

Positive experience: Old gym , old lockers , needs renovation

Negative experience: worst gym ever. changing room dirty showers like wise. always busy and over crowded. I tried to cancel membership twice haven't herd nothing and when I called the manager M.H wasn't big help niether. I explained the situation about trying to cancel membership and that I submitted 2 tickets one in end December and other on Jan and I was still getting charged. but because someone never bothered to do their job right I never received any form of communication. she was offering to open new ticket and get charged for another month and when I refused she offered the customer service/care number I think is discusting trying to charge customer for another month when is your so helpful staff never done the job in first place. manager can do with some customer service training to certain degree as she kept calling me mate which is annoying and unprofessional. all in all dont bother waisting your time with this place plenty better gyms around.

Positive experience: Ok. Nothing special. Very busy. Lots of benches, but not enough weights plates or weight machines. Leeds South is alot better

Negative experience: The dirtiest gym you will ever come across. They don’t clean the changing rooms.

Negative experience: rude staff and got banned for no reason whatsoever and once id appealed i had been unbanned but the next day was rebanned and got kicked out the gym for trying to prove a point

Positive experience: I was forced to come to this gym due to the Dewsbury Sports Centre closing & i think its safe to say that this gym is nothing compared to the sport centre. The parking for disabled people should solely be reserved for the disabled who struggle walking like i do. However, many users are very selfish & use it to park so its close. I have written to JD to allow them to rectify this issue , no such action has even occurred. Alot of machines are always out of order which is quite annoying. The only positive i can give for this gym is the JD BURN classes which take place at 6:30am, they’re led by professional, understanding & friendly instructors who are just amazing. Negative experience: NEVER answer the phone. I applying to upgrade my membership in October and again in December, still no contact. Terrible

Negative experience: Unfortunately this gym is getting worse half the machines are out of order smith machine been out of order for over a month, pull up bars handle rubber has been split for nearly 2 month now. One of the machine new handle was put on 1 which is better fit but the other handle rubber is loose. Only 1 bike is suitable to use one out of order 3 without straps couple needs maintaining or lubricating

Positive experience: Management needs to read my message seriously. I have noticed twice that in the mens changing rooms, two female staff have entered and of course they were doing cleaning or checking something. I feel this inappropriate as this shouldn’t happen at all especially when mens are getting changed. It should be only male staff members. If this was the other way round, think of what would happen!!! No doubt that its a very good gym and facilities is good

Fantastic experience: Good gym. Lots of equipment and good quality stuff. Not as big as the JD south but still fine to get on what you need. Overall very clean and tidy set up and decent price.

Negative experience: It was good

Negative experience: Womens section not that big and gets full easily - needs extending/relocating to another, bigger part of gym. Not a great selection of classes or times/days of the classes on offer. Smells. constant parking on double yellows to side making parking of allocated bays sometimes difficult (come on people you are off to the gym, surely you can walk a few extra feet to park in an appropriate spot?! No?). I tried cancelling membership last month but took forever to get back to me so it ran over again. When I get chance I will be looking to move to another gym in the area.

Fantastic experience: Love the jd gyms the Batley one is really good for parking. They is lots of space behind the gym. The gym is amazing too lots of equipment and so much to do. Looking forward to checking out the Halifax one as soon as it’s open

Positive experience: Better bamed out of order gym. Very busy and big number of members all the time , still no regular maintenance !!!.but will still many other positives.

Fantastic experience: Very good gym in Batley staff are very helpful and personal trainers too I absolutely love this gym people take the mick out of me about my weight and call me fat

Negative experience: You get what you pay for unfortunately. Find people really look other people up and down. Equipment is ok but good luck using anything after 5pm. Might as well not bother. Sauna is good but hygiene is lacking for quite a few people.

Positive experience: Not the worst gym iv been to but could be better, gets packed during peak times and some equipment needs some attention. When it's not busy everything is spaced out well between machines.

Negative experience: Re joined yesterday after 2 years off and after 2 sessions decided it’s impossible to train at jd gym batley, every time is peak time and looks well over capacity. I’ve cancelled and requested my money back as it’s only 2 days in. I’ve had to join another gym. Seems more about getting the maximum number of member signed up rather than capping it and have existing numbers enjoy training. Not 1 machine was free and people waiting for machines . I will gladly change my review and just review the customer service which will be 5 star if I get my refund

Positive experience: First of all yes it's value for money and it's a nice big gym, friendly PT's excellent facilities. The bad is mainly from the demographic that use this gym, at peak times you are better off working out at home as you will get gangs of youths loitering around machines. You get the usual grunters that take all the dumbbells on offer and the cable machine is always in use by people doing 100 sets. Machines are often out of order probably due to aggression

Fantastic experience: Great gym with lots of equipment but can be busy at certain times of the day

Positive experience: Decent gym, value for money. The only issue really is every time you go there’s at least one broken machine at a time and sometimes they’re out for days/weeks at a time.

Negative experience: Very scruffy gym, the changing rooms are not cleaned and the staff are very defensive/aggressive if you try to raise it to their attention.

Negative experience: Extremely unhygienic mens changing room - do not enter the sauna unless desire a slow death from the many repugnant body odours. The cleaning facilities manager needs firing along with cleaners if any employed at all. 0/10

Positive experience: It’s a good enough gym to go to on non peak times. I personally don’t like the layout. I don’t like how unclean the women’s sauna is, a lot of women go in there to dry their sweat drenched clothes and don’t shower before entering. Nobody mans the sauna to tell them off.

Negative experience: Air con is terrible! Not sure if it’s warmer outside or at the gym

Fantastic experience: By far the best GYM ive ever come across. They’ve got alot variety of equipments. The ambience and atmosphere is amazing.

Positive experience: I split my time between this JD and the one in Morley and the difference is quite big to be honest. The Batley one feels very cramped and it's always packed in the evening to the point where you have nothing free to use so you're forced to bother people and wait for them to finish their sets. My biggest issue is how ridiculously warm it gets in the summer, not sure if this is a JD thing but the AC is useless/nonexistent and the last thing you need in hot temperatures is to marinate in your sweat and everyone's BO while exercising in an enclosed and busy space. It's not the worst gym but they could really improve plenty, especially considering how much they invested in their big fancy gyms. I'm sure enough people go to Batley to make it worth a renovation. Some extra points for the Shakas truck outside doing nice protein shakes during the 2 hours a year they decide to show up.

Positive experience: Good equipment, love the chest machines

Negative experience: Not sure how anybody has given this any rating above a 3 at most. Of the gyms I have been to, this is the worst by hygiene so far. So many machines are just soaked in sweat. With no cleaning stations to wipe after you sue them, this is no surprise. You need to wipe your feet after using the showers are the changing rooms floor is filthy, never clean the 5 time I visited. Toilet rolls would be nice to have at some point. Or soap for the dispenser at the sinks maybe? I'd take individual shower cubicles over those so called private stalls they have. I have just cancelled and say there's at least 30 days notice is required, so another 22 quid I be forced to waste on this dirty gym... EDIT: Went in again today to se if anything changed, it has not. At least I saw 1 cleaner though, so that's something. The men's room floors still dirty, wipe your feet before putting your socks on people, showers still soaked every inch of floor like the drains just don't work at all. The "cleaning stations" you mention it has, a spray bottle and a wipe on a bench/short table, is not a cleaning station, its a spray and a wipe. no real improvement and so the cancellation will proceed. I still have a few weeks access, so I will use it as I hate wasting my hard earned money...

Negative experience: Smells and is dirty. The equipment made me king as nobody cleaned when the had finished.

Positive experience: Gym itself is good when everything is working and not busy. But hey, when is it never busy?

Fantastic experience: Although there are a lot of people using the place, I never find it very crowded unlike other branches. Each equipment has enough room or space to move around. I love the Ladies Gym area, makes it more private for women to workout and not be conscious about other gym-goers, gives you the feeling of working out at home. Ladies Gym is open from 5am-10pm. I just wish it's open until midnight.

Negative experience: Won't cancel my membership, won't refund, Useless thieves. They've taken money from my account after I've tried to cancel. If I could leave 0 star I would.

Negative experience: This place is rundown and dirty. The staff are non existant or useless ignorant at best ! Place is smelly dirty and filthy in some corners and really a bad experience for a gym in these days. After covid I think they stopped cleaning this place!

Negative experience: So far I've only been a handful of times. I don't think I'll be keeping my membership after this first month. A lot of the equipment is in need of repair. These repairs might only be small things, but they can make a workout more of a hassle than it should be. Take the handgrips, for example. The majority of the weight machines either have mismatched grips; or a missing grip; or grips that spin when they shouldn't. Some required repairs are outright dangerous! Several of the machines have had missing weight selector pins. A few machines have loose bolts, or worn selector holes on the seats. Some need the cables readjusting. They're small things, but they add up to a very sloppy feel. Then there's the changing rooms... It's a 24hr gym, which is ideal for my erratic and unpredictable schedule, but the changing areas and showers are not 24hr. They're closed between 11pm and 5am. The sauna is also in there, so that can't be used either. 6 hours, that's a quarter of the day. This wouldn't be too bad if there were some smaller changing rooms or showers available during this time. There aren't. The place I could find is the disability access shower downstairs. This was open, but didn't smell clean. I'm not sure if this is allowed to be used outside of the normal changing room/shower hours. The toilets are also closed between those hours, again leaving only the disabled access toilet, downstairs. I went to use that, but there was water flooding out of it, soaking the carpets, and a smell to make anyone's stomach turn. I didn't use it, I went home. The ladies only section is also closed on a night. There is no mens only section. A lot of weights and weight bags seem to get left on the floor. The selection of weight machines isn't great, with only 1 of most types. There's a few pieces of equipment that I'd expected to be there, but I've not found. The vending machines don't seem to work when using mobile contactless. I'm not sure if that's my phone or not. The rope attachments are badly frayed and smell. It appears that you can only visit the gym once per day. I went twice in one day and the code wouldn't let me in the second time. Not great if you're training for something and want to have a workout before and after work. Or even if you've left your drink in the car, or can't remember if you've locked the car. Same thing for fresh air. Once you're out, it doesn't seem that you can get back in on the same day. The JD gym app doesn't seem fantastic, either. Similar gyms have the ability to see how many people are in the gym at any given time. This is great if you want to avoid the busy times, or if you prefer to work out when it's busy. Other gym apps also log how many hours you've spent in the gym that day/week/month and allow you to register and keep track of your workouts. £21.99 isn't the most expensive gym, but it's not the best value, either. Given that the gym is lacking some functionality on the off peak hours, it would be good to see a reduced rate for them. I'm going to continue using the gym for another week or so and hope that some of these issues are down to the new year's gym rush. If things change, I'll update the review. Update - The disabled toilet is now out of order meaning THERE ARE NO TOILETS! A few photos added of handgrips, missing pins, worn equipment, missing weight stickers, stripped and loose bolts etc... Visited during the day, so I managed to use the changing rooms and toilets. Needn't have bothered. Urinal overflowing with pee. Probably from all the chewing gum in it, judging by the other one. Tried reporting dangerously defective equipment, but there was no staff there at all. A cleaner came in a bit later, so I told her and asked her for an 'out of order' note putting on it. She couldn't have been less interested and actually seemed annoyed by my asking. Edit- I'm no longer a member of the gym, after trying to contact them to discuss issues, as advised by JD Gym on Twitter. They simply can't be bothered replying to you. Downgraded to one star, from two, after further issues.

Negative experience: JD gym Batley is a well equipped gym. However whenever any machines are out of operation (broke) they the (management) take forever to get the machines repaired. So annoying. Very unprofessional (sarcastic) reply from the owner.

Negative experience: Well equipped, but lots of idiots crowding round and sitting on equipment texting and messing about, not training but refusing to let you use the equipment. Not many staff about.

Negative experience: Okay facilities, WiFi has not been working for over a month, machines don't get fixed quickly and some of them are past it , needs replacing and updating

Negative experience: There aren't enough D handle grips and when speaking to staff about this, they tell you to bring your own. Much of the equipment in the gym isn't serviced.

Positive experience: Great equipment and gyms but after sales is awful. Just phone customer service and they still have Covid warnings for April and May for 2021? Does that reflect customer services are there to help or periodically checking they have helpful advice updates ? Sorry JD but your weakness is how you follow up customer's needs

Fantastic experience: Nice relaxed gym, a bit less crowded than the Leeds South one. If you're looking for a good PT Konrad is very knowledgeable and a friendly guy.

Negative experience: Need to keep equipement present and available, strap handles missing for weeks. X3 individual straps for 4 sets of cables... always waiting for people to finish sets or txtin...lol Says everything about the lack gym etiquette, weights and bumbells left out by members. Expect no more from my follow creatures of dewsbury and batley. Leeds south JD gym has it nailed, JD staff pull people up for not keeping it tidy...

Positive experience: Rather crowded. Otherwise quite a good selection of equipment

Positive experience: Great gym and facilities but disappointed with the new entry system which is now through a phone app only, so you are forced to carry a phone and forced to download their app to be able to use the gym. Not everyone has a smart phone or need one, some people don’t want to carry a phone either. Minus one star for the entry system and app requirement, matter of time before i forget my phone and eventually just cancel membership.
