Oxsrad Sports & Leisure Centre in Oxford is a vibrant community gym that caters to individuals of all abilities. Visitors appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, who make everyone feel welcome, ensuring that support is always available, particularly for those with mobility issues.
The centre is known for its accessible facilities, making it a great choice for people with disabilities. The variety of classes and activities offered, such as Aerial classes, Zumba, and spinning, provide wonderful opportunities for fitness and fun.
Many users enjoy the affordable membership prices and the pleasant café on-site where they can relax after workouts. Additionally, the centre's atmosphere is friendly and encouraging, with no intimidation from others, making it an inviting space for newcomers.
However, some visitors have noted that the equipment could use an update as it is basic and not very inspiring. There are concerns about safety regarding certain gym features and the maintenance of specific machines.
Overall, Oxsrad Sports & Leisure Centre stands out as a great place for fitness enthusiasts, especially those seeking a supportive and inclusive environment.
Oxsrad Sports & Leisure Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff. A place where all abilities can be active together.
Positive experience: Great place for anyone with mobility issues. Staff are always prepared to help. I started going there once a week but this year iam going everyday. Would highly recommend to anyone who has suffered a stroke
Fantastic experience: Great experience! The staff is friendly, always ready to help and make you feel welcome. What impressed me the most is the fact that it's not a busy gym, so I never have to wait for equipment. Plus, the membership price is quite reasonable, making it an excellent value for money.
Positive experience: Only pop in for coffee, which is good, and the occasional cake when out for a walk. Staff are friendly. Note the Google photo is out of date, the outdoor kit is no longer there.
Fantastic experience: Regularly come here for Afreaka Aerials. The staff at Oxrad are lovely too - Conor and Kai are always helpful!
Positive experience: This is very much a community Gym. It’s nice as it’s rarely busy and you don’t get posers or people grunting while dropping weights. The equipment is very basic and uninspiring. Some of the resistance machines have the band rather than steel cable which is less enjoyable to use. Some also use a number system 1-10 rather than state the Kg lifted. The pad on the bicep curl machine is worn away to the steel beneath. There’s no dedicated squat rack, bench press or dip station. Although it seems you could do assisted squat and bench press on their smith machine. Their free-weight section is about the size of my bedroom so only really space for one at a time. They unsafely balance the weighted barbells on their ends rather than use a rack. If a breeze were to tip the 30kg end on your head while you were doing pushups nearby it would cause serious injury. They also don’t have any light sensors in the weight room (only the main room), so when I’m the only one training the lights go out mid-set which again is pretty dangerous. I hope they resolve these obvious safety issues. They do however have many assisted machines for people with disabilities which is nice to see. Their membership options seem ok, although tbh is a bit expensive considering the equipment they have. If you will be using their adaptive equipment it makes sense. Overall it’s ok. It’s so nice to have something which is accessible for people with disabilities and for that I can’t give less than 4 stars.
