Fantastic experience: Clean gym
Positive experience: Been going here for a couple years. They finally fixed the wifi, and also rearranged some machines so all the resistance machines are in one place and cardio stuff is in another which makes much more sense to me. Staff are friendly. Gets very busy after 5 on weekdays.

Negative experience: It takes a lot to call it a gym. The machines are always broken, the floor is in very bad condition, it literally sinks, the bathrooms are horrible. They smell and are always dirty. There are many cardio machines that no one uses and many discs are missing for the bars. The new manager is never seen and the assistant is lost and doesn't care about anything. I pay to have good service But I can't get it and This place has lost many clients for these and other reasons. They have written to me saying that they are going to increase my monthly fee but I can't get what I'm looking for. It's a shame that the Bolton gym is much better despite being smaller. I have returned to this gym because its a good distance from my job but I'm feeling I have committed a big mistake backing to Manchester gym group.

Negative experience: Rude Manager/team member We purchased 1 day pass and waited for someone to come help us as the doors were not opening, staff was chatting in front of us and the person with black hair sign with his finger for us to wait as he kept chatting for 2 minutes with the other personal trainer To then said we have to wait 5/6min for the code to work (shouldn't the sms sent say that so we're not concerned) Layout is a bit random Upper body machine are mixed with lower body, the other gyms I go don't mix it that way Also treadmills need maintenance cause the noise they make while you run is funny, few machines in the upstairs floor need oil, they sound rusty while you work out I was just very put off by the first impression there for 2 stars First impressions matter

Negative experience: The gym itself is decent, staff are friendly but when I got charged for my membership, they slapped on a £15 admin fee, almost double what I pay for my membership. They made no effort to contact me regarding this, no surprise there and now claim there’s nothing they can do about it. Typical money grabbing business that doesn’t care about their customers

Negative experience: If you enjoy working out in a filthy environment, this is the gym for you. Every corner has a lovely layer of grime that looks like it’s been there for years, and as for the cleaners… well, they seem to be here just to pass the time since they’re paid by the hour, aren’t they? The lockers are another joke. Half of them don’t work, and of course, expecting them to be greased is asking way too much. But who needs a locker that actually closes when you can just leave your things on the floor, right? And the recent ‘rearrangements’ are fascinating – if you have a degree in understanding nonsensical decisions. Though, it would be brilliant if all this shuffling around meant they were bringing in new machines, like a pendulum squat or something for hip thrusts… but I highly doubt that’s the plan. It's pretty clear you're cutting corners – probably due to budget issues – all under the convenient excuse of being more 'eco-friendly'. So, if you’re looking for a gym that tests your patience and adaptability, I’d highly recommend it.

Positive experience: For a city centre gym it seems to be quiet each time I've been in which is great for the trainee. It Is always immaculate and there is a decent array of equipment. Criticisms would be the way certain machines are dotted around over 3 floors at random. Certain equipment is put in the same space with no rhyme or reason, something more orderly would be better. The other would just be certain machines in general. They aren't of the best quality and the high number of bi-lateral stuff is a pain. The name of the company that manufacture the machines escapes me but some of them are pretty low standard and not ideal for experienced trainers. Overall however you can definitely get a good quality session in.

Negative experience: Used to be great,now it's really dirty . You took off the blue roll and spray ,now most equipment have sweat stains over them. Cleaning equipment once per day to save budget is just not enough. Even with a towel it's still disgusting to use the equipment. At least put it to a vote or fix this ,or else I'll have to stop my membership

Positive experience: Good gym everything good, but please put the air conditioner lower, is literally winter in the gym there are maybe 10 degrees or even less, you can get sick easily

Negative experience: Been a member for a few months, the gym has progressively got less clean. I like to use the treadmills and they are now always covered in dried sweat, in the past I would clean this myself before use but the gym no longer has paper towels to clean with, it has been over two weeks without cleaning equipment. If this continues much longer I will swap gyms and I advise other to do so too.

Negative experience: Really dirty and now they have removed all the sprays and blue roll. They have one cleaning spray and a rag at the entrance to the gym. Disgusting. Edit for their reply: They say they clean daily... Well, why do the treadmills have week old sweat stains and dirty marks on them? FYI, net zero has nothing to do with waste, net zero is about emissions through energy expenditure. Quite crazy that you got confused by waste and energy.. but even if it was relatable, which it isn't, paper is recyclable... You removed the ability for members to clean kit because you're cutting costs, and it shows. A side point, it is clear you have no one in your gym that is trained to maintain matrix equipment as you put out of order signs on treadmills that had a power cycle error, I did my matrix training course about 8 years ago and I still remember how to fix that error code... Putting an out of order sign on a machine that just needs a restart is insane and shows the lack of knowledge in the gym. A combination of cost cutting, lack of cleaning, lack of training of staff really shows here. Management is clearly failing. I recommend all to join another gym, even pure gym is better.

Fantastic experience: Really good. Needed a gym to use in Manchester while up for work. A large gym floor, so no issues with overcrowding or waiting for equipment. Just what you need if you're looking to work out with minimal fuss.
Negative experience: Men's changing room need an urgent action or refurbishment. Everything is broken.

I need a fair bit of support with equipment as Ive got plenty to do to get fitter - Molly has been really helpful in showing me the ropes and motivating me to get started on improving my fitness. Ben W is the best, fab PT and the results I've seen over the last 8 months have been so great!
Fantastic experience: Super good value gym with tons of great quality free classes already included. The staff are soooo nice (Gee/ Ben/ Molly) and supportive no matter your levels are. Been staying for two years now and will continue! It could get busy after working hours time but still availability. Ibra was a really good trainer as well - he guided me through 45 min class with care and focus. Highly recommended!!
Fantastic experience: Very clean gym. Equipment well maintained. Staff great customer service. Deptuy manager brilliant people management skills. Pt i have brilliant at his job knows everything about training health issues. Other pts certainly know how to do training etc.Ben m my pt knows how to train people and knows what best. Great pt to use. Very well trained experienced Manager Liam treats customers like family .its great friends base and members so nice.
Fantastic experience: Juliano ran a 45 m8n class with a dew exercises I've never done. Hard at times but I like it fir the variety and he's really helpful and makes it a little bit more fun to take the sting out of it ! Really spacious well equipped gym . Staff are very helpful when you need information.

Positive experience: Fairly new and clean equipment, large and enough space. However there are no foam roller, elastic bands etc provided for stretching and relaxing. Also the WiFi doesn’t work. No hip thrust machine.

Positive experience: decent gym, been going here for 2 years now. I feel like they could put in new equipment that the old deansgate the gym had and also I feel like the staff always have the temperature up way too hot which makes it difficult to get a proper workout in.

Fantastic experience: The one thing that sets this gym apart from the others in the gym manager. Very approachable, very visible and his heart certainly is in continued improvement for the club members first and foremost.
Positive experience: Well-located with sufficient equipment. Never gets too crowded. The only thing I hate about this gym is how loudly they play their dreadful music. You will struggle to find someone without headphones in there. Most people just want to listen to their own music, but you risk ear damage trying to drown out the gym’s system. I love exercising to my own music — it’s what gets me motivated to push harder. But it’s basically impossible here. I’ve complained about it a few times, but the staff say the volume is company policy. It’s a shame because it’s a nice gym otherwise. I’m thinking of switching because of this. Other complaint is that they’re terrible with communication. They closed for three days last week without communicating this to members. When I required support with the app it took them 10 business days to respond to my email.

Negative experience: If you like being snooped on by gym staff, Portland Street Manchester then this is the place for you. I received a warning by email about improper use of equipment which never happened by the way. How disrespectful and weird is that. If there was an issue, then the gym staff should discuss it with me in person rather than send me a stupid email. I've been a member there for a while now and had multi access member ship with no issues. They should not snoop on people just because they are bored. most decent gym goers will be shocked by this. Imagine every gym session you are being watched, it's unsettling.

Negative experience: Besides the nice and friendly staff, it’s been more than once that I’ve found toilets unclean and messy, with no toilets paper early morning! No paper rolls over the gym

Fantastic experience: Great gym really reasonably priced and good equipment. Ellie the personal trainer is absolutely fantastic, I take her gym classes and love her, really motivating and fun!
Positive experience: Sorry, my previous rating was based on a PT examiner being so late that I had to cancel, and I had already paid in which she told me to do. The gym is very good but entry was very difficult. Though a great selection of gym equipment, products, and ventilation makes this a very good gym.

Fantastic experience: I am a Live it member and whilst the Portland Street isn't my 'home gym', it is actually the one I gravitate towards more than my others! The reasons for this are a consistenly great atmosphere, approachable and friendly staff and gym equipment that is plentiful and well maintained. All good!

Negative experience: I just joined this gym as it’s closer to my workplace. I arrived today for the first time for a gym class asking a member of staff where I should go as I have never been before. He then proceeded to tell me that the class no longer runs although annoying I was going to train after anyway. He didn’t offer to ask if I knew where I was going or offer any help at all, he just walked off wandering around. Not helpful at all considering it’s not the most easiest layout to navigate. Think I will end up sticking with my previous gym.

Negative experience: I have nothing negative to say about the staff nor the gym, they're all been good however, The Gym Group are a very sneaky company in terms of taking out payments without your knowledge, don't ever get fooled by their promotions unless you remember everything. Also, don't bother with their Yanga drink, its just tasteless and if it was offered for free again I wouldn't take it. I've signed up with their promo offer of £14.69 which includes the horrible Yanga drink, they've already taken the DD out for the previous month, unfortunately I've had a sudden death in the family, so I couldn't really go to the gym that much and realised that they've taken out £24.99 last month! I've actually only used their gym 6 times for the total price of £39.68. I've tried contacting them via email and telephone but they are bluntly unsympathetic. Will never use them again, and time to switch to a new and a better gym like pure.

Negative experience: This gum is a nightmare. No one is on site, so if you can’t get in you just can’t get in. Then I needed a lock. The selling machine took the money, but never gave it to me. And there was no one around to help.

Positive experience: Clean gym with nice facilities at a very reasonable price, spacious so when it's busy it doesn't feel overwhelming. The staff are very friendly and helpful without being overbearing. I got a PT, John O'Leary, at the gym group last year with the goal of recovering from injury and experiencing less pain. He has been amazing, ensuring my technique is spot on to pivoting when an exercise doesn't work. My progress has meant I am in less pain and can move easily without issue.

Positive experience: I had a fantastic experience at this gym. It's clean, spacious, and has great city views. The staff are friendly and some even guided my exercises. The app is super convenient for booking classes. It's in the city center and close to Chinatown, many restaurants and cafes. Plus, it's open 24/7, making it easy to fit workouts into my schedule. A tip: don’t cancel your direct debit early or you will need to call them to get access again. Overall, recommended if these advantages are important to you too.

Fantastic experience: From my experience this is a 10/10 gym for me. Every bit of equipment was great up to date not loose or shaky like some. Very clean, tidy and welcoming to everyone with a rest station to relax get a cool drink after your workout and get the laptop out get some work done if you’re ever rushed. Will 100% be back with a full membership.

Negative experience: Lots of equipment, but some was very rusty and in some instances not fully working (eg: dip/chin up machine). Disappointing compared with other Gym Group sites around the UK

Fantastic experience: Amazing tour the General Manager Liam and the Assistant Manager John took me through the sign-up process, both are a credit to The Gym Group. Was really made to be felt at ease during the whole process. This gym is never too busy, I have trained at different times and the range of equipment is excellent. Liam always remembers me from the tour and says hello every time and takes a real interest in my progress with my training. 100% recommend this gym!

Negative experience: If you're looking for a nice gym in the city center then my recommendation is to look elsewhere. The equipment although new is sometimes a bit awkward to use, smaller weights are missing from them and you constantly have to walk in circles and up and down the stairs to find what you need. The (male) changing rooms are quite dirty, there is only one small mirror in the corner, no hair dryers, and the showers were also dirty with a few broken controls (still usable though). Hire again whoever was running your Deansgate venue before its closure because that was the best gym in the city center, but for this gym, even the £12.99 monthly charge is too expensive, I rather pay double for JD, so I'm canceling my membership.

Negative experience: I am honestly shocked at my recent 20 minutes experience at The Gym Group (Manchester Portland Street) due to the aggressive behavior of the instructor called Cindya and no logic behind everything else. Actually I was asked to leave the gym, as somehow I disturbed Cindya from doing her job (I absolutely have no clue how) while I was 10 meters far from her in the corner jumping on my jumping rope. I was shouted at, I was ran at, she called a manager. I did not even look at her. Shock!! Seems like I am not the first facing issues with the stuff there.

Fantastic experience: The gym is well-equipped, clean, well automated and 24/7 open. The activities are monitored by CCTV cameras. All the essentials like padlocks, drinks and energy bars, etc. can be purchased from the vending machine. The gym is just 5 mins' walking distance away from the Manchester Piccadilly. You can have access to the multiple branches across the city with an upgrade worth a few bucks. Worth giving a shot!

Negative experience: Found the staff rude and unhelpful at this Gym Group just off Portland St. They can talk down to you and laugh at you. The atmosphere is very bad and feels like a prison not a gym getting in and out. Awful way of treating customers. Would not recommend this gym at all. I have been to other gyms (not the Gym Group) where staff are a lot more approachable, helpful and decent. Wouldn't go back to a gym group

Fantastic experience: The gym that you never regret joining. Clean and neat, lots of equipment and friendly staffs. 3 month ago started exercising i met and got to know #Ibrahim Meite that he was the perfect coach for me. He is professional yet kind, patient and understanding . Fantastic experience: I have been training in this gym for three months, very clean, good machines and a nice environment. I worked with Ibra who helped me to regain my physical shape, with specific training set on my goal, a very passionate and competent person, time has literally flown.
