Bannatyne Health Club

Negative experience: Freezing cold showers for the past two weeks and cold pool. Told management who just said they were aware of it. Made me feel that I wasn’t the only one to complain. I thinks it’s terrible that I can’t go for a swim after paying all that money each month. If I’d known how bad it had got at Lowestoft I wouldn’t have rejoined and I certainly wouldn’t have introduced my friend.

Negative experience: Jacuzzi was cold this...and waiting 15 minutes for egg on toast... in that time my tea was cold..

Fantastic experience: Member of 15 months: +++pool, sauna +++free classes +++café/lobby +++friendly environment ++Smith Machine ++great range of back equipment +good range of chest equpment +great range of dumbbells and preset weight curl bars +good amount of dumbbell benches +neutral grip shoulder press, I like this one a lot --no lateral raise machine --sometimes a machine will be broken for a couple weeks -70kg limit adductor/abductor, but the range of motion you get on these is really good compared to other gyms ~95kg limit leg extension, yes you can do them unilateral but unilateral sets take an age ~leg curl/extension machines have no over-thigh bar+handles, less stability, not a huge downside but I like the handles ~I'd love a true pec deck, there is a pectoral machine though ~I'd love a hack squat or v squat machine but there are squat racks and leg press machines ~I'd like to see a dedicated calf focused machine (I just use the leg press for calves), maybe even a tibialis trainer ~could do with another flat bench, maybe another dumbbell bench too ~too many cardio machines on the gym floor, which could be ^these machines and maybe another crossover machine, treadmills on the mezzanine floor are largely unused, which just seems like an inefficient use of floorspace

Positive experience: Clean and tidy place swimming pool all 1 level spa, steam and sauna, friendly staff. Came as a guest and was treated the same as members. Definitely recommend

Negative experience: My review is based on group exercise classes as this is my main reason for joining the gym. The classes schedule is release 3 days in advance, but in my experience, majority are always fully booked. This leaves me feeling like I am not getting value for money.

Negative experience: Awful place. Payed for a day pass for myself, mum and sister so £75 in total but we had to leave. Steam room wasn’t working and it smelt of mold really bad The lady at reception didn’t even know it wasn’t working. Not a clean place, very dirty. When we asked her for a refund she said she would speak to the manager. The manager didn’t even come to talk to us and no one asked if we wanted to make a complaint, no one seem bothered at all. Avoid!!!!!

Fantastic experience: Honestly have to say this place is like home to me. Amazing staff all of them. They always say hello when I walk in, always say goodbye when I walk out. They always offer help and are always polite. I have never had any issue with the staff and the place it self offers everything you need and its always clean and everything always works fine. I would say the best fitness/health club/gym in whole of uk i visit in last 18 years since i live in uk. Props to them.

Negative experience: Friendly staff. Cleaning not high on there list. Men shower area, always looks dirty. Ceiling panel's, dirty and black. Pool floor dirty. Plus when looking in to sauna while in pool you can see where water drainage, is very dirty. Seen Cleaning in shower area, and just putting some cleaning products on floor then scraping off is not doing a very good job...suggest get staff trained better out outside contacts to come in.

Negative experience: Apparently you are not allowed in the club half an hour before they close now?

Fantastic experience: Very happy with my visits to Bannatyne's. Spotless premises, excellent instructors, always helpful and arrange the classes to fit everyone. Happy to recommend Bannatyne's.

Negative experience: I’ve had such a rubbish experience with bannatynes, they’ve been nothing but unhelpful. I have a serious condition meaning I cannot go to the gym anymore and they wouldn’t let me cancel and were so rude on the phone. They have even gone to the point of threatening me. I’ve never cried so much over a membership. DO NOT put your self through the pain of dealing with this and their foul attitude toward delicate situations.

Negative experience: Staff were rude and facilitates not very clean. Do not recommend.

Negative experience: Poorly equipped gym for the money and pool temperature turned down to save them money, much better options for the cost.

Fantastic experience: I recently joined Bannatyne Health Club and have been very impressed with my experience so far. Negative experience: The pool is freezing. We used to be a member of Norwich then moved to Lowestoft and joined however the pool is so cold… and we can’t use Norwich unless we pay £48 a month rather than £38 really bad service. Should be same pool temp and same price accords Bannatynes

Positive experience: We joined here in December as new to the area. Its very good value as back home you are looking at £150 for my husband and i per month. Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances we are moving back. We cancelled our membership but the move has delayed so Kristina was so kind to set us up for another month. Really friendly staff and pool is always nice and quiet. Thank you Bannatyne Lowestoft. We will miss you!

Fantastic experience: Have now been a member for over 3 weeks. On my first day Claire was happy to show me around and helped to ease my anxiety. An amazing range of classes with great teachers. Fitness instructors are happy to help you set goals and teach you how to use the machines and set workout plans. The pool is good and I love using the steam room after. Very happy with the Bannatyne Group and I get an NHS discount!

Negative experience: Expensive for what you get, if you just want a gym, then go somewhere else, or at least visit at the time you plan to go and have a look around to see how busy it is. For the price I would expect more equipment, some sections of the gym are always in use so it's hard to do your own workout, the staff are great and friendly, it's nice and clean, the technology/facilities are great but unless you want classes and a pool you can join somewhere else for half the price and not have to wait for some sections.

Positive experience: Went for a look around. Very friendly staff. Amazing changing rooms. Gym on 2 levels. Cafe has lots of seating. Only reason not given 5 is pool though lovely isn't as big as I thought it would be, but stunning overall.

Positive experience: On holiday so using this venue - massive compared to my usual bannatynes. The pool and jacuzzi and gym are very clean areas, gym is slightly cramped but done well for the space. On approach the staff stood flirting with eachother, I had a cleaner show me where everything was. Usually at my bannatynes I get a 'good morning' or 'hello'.. staffing in the gym is non existent.

Negative experience: Nice but dim gym- unless you have a surgeons style mask you can't get in according to manager who refused entry to me. It does not state anywhere that a particular style or type of Mask should worn. Wanted to charge for a mask to gain entry. Typical organisation. Taking advantage of COVID19 pandemic.

Negative experience: Really disappointed in this gym, I paid my fees for a year and now have had to self-isolate. I was told I could freeze my membership for up to six months but have since found out that I have to pay £10 per month to do this!! This is shameful

Positive experience: Average gym. Not much equipment. Pool, showers and changing rooms are usually disgusting, backed up drains etc. Boiler seems to be constantly broken. Jacuzzi has been broken for months. Sauna and steam rooms are draughty and not very efficient or hot.

Positive experience: Great gym very clean and tidy. To get here you have to come off at the North quay retail park roundabout and go past Lidl. Lots of free parking. I've only ever been off peak hours during the day and it's nice and quiet. We've sometimes had the pool to ourselves.

Negative experience: Awful!!!! Tell you anything to make you sign up, then awful service. Avoid!! Full of youngsters posing and unless you’re already fit and just want to stand there flexing your muscles, you will not be welcome. Staff will not address complaints.

Negative experience: Worst gym in the area! Joined and within 10 mins was told no mobiles so asked for refund and cancel membership. They refused and I was subsequently charged 2 months membership to cancel!
