Negative experience: Total ripoff!!! They got pretty decent gym. But when it comes to terms and conditions and policies, they are total crap. They'll try to rip you off as much as they can. And simple example could be they need 30 days notice for cancelling the membership. Or else they'll charge you for another month even if you won't be using the gym anymore. Most students graduate in august and will leave York by the end of august. And if you forget to cancel your membership 30 days before 1st of September they are gonna charge you for another month. I wonder how many students have they ripped off. Charging £28.50 for nothing. Worst service ever.

Positive experience: Very reasonably priced gym in a great location for staff and students. Might be a bit too student-y for anyone for anyone that isn't a university member or alumni. All the kit works but some is clearly a hand me down from York Sport Village. It's clean and mostly well maintained though. Staff are friendly and helpful. Finding a locker that isn't occupied, keyless or broken can be a bit of a pain. Never the less, I've been coming here for ages and it's helped keep to my weightloss and fitness goals. Can't say fairer than that!

Positive experience: First sports place I've been to that turn the lights off when your time runs out on the court. Every other sports centre I've played at will leave the lights on. No one was booked after us, just let us finish our game.

Positive experience: NB this venue has NO SWIMMING POOL. That is at the other campus, at York Sport Village. (I only called in briefly as Google search wrongly sent me here for the swimming pool)

Fantastic experience: Visited as a member of a group taking part in VI tennis, very clean,good lighting and felt safe, bonus is a cafe close by with a good self tion of food and drinks hot and cold.

Positive experience: Parking is pricey and no obvious option for reduced payment if using the the venue but venue appears clean and tidy. Only went bro the sports arena which is a great sized space with lots of different courts.

Fantastic experience: Great sporting venues

Positive experience: The place has all you need to test yourself while working out. It is neat, and well equipped. If you are a York student and liking training with weights or resistance bands, you'll be truly excited of being here.

Negative experience: Was a member here for years and ended up complaining at central management of university level because of how rude and unhelpful some of the staff were. Toxic atmosphere at reception. This is some time ago and I hope it’s changed. I did like the devices and doing workouts there though.

Negative experience: Good facilities but the staff are unhelpful and rude. We were recently overcharged for a family swim and when challenged were stonewalled by the desk staff. After further investigation also found out that we have been overcharged for months on previous swims despite us asking direct questions about prices with concessions. The children's pool is also closed far too often with poor information on the website leading to many a wasted journey and a very disappointed 6-year-old.

Fantastic experience: Can only really comment on the Squash courts, but they are great. Good temperature, consistent bounce across the court and reasonable pricing. Has the ability to Pay and Play but also offers leagues and opportunities for friendlies. Friendly staff in the centre and the whole place is a generally nice atmosphere. Parking in site is private (and so you have to pay if not a club member) but is free after 6pm. Lots of other facilities on the same site and twinned with the York Sports Village down the road offering reciprocal discounts.

Fantastic experience: Really cheap gym if you are a student and it has a decent selection of equipment inside. They also host a variety of club events and classes.

Positive experience: Cheap, but seems quite run down. Staff at the entrance are not particularly friendly.

Fantastic experience: Best olympic gym in York with friendly, helpful staff, excellent trainers, and a welcoming, helpful community of members. Very gender neutral/woman friendly. Not a bro-show, no creepers/creeping that Ive seen, and everyone is polite and helpful enough to ensure it would never become a problem. Lots of field facilities for track and field, tennis, volleyball, badminton, swimming, football and field hockey. They even support an American football intramural league!

Negative experience: A summary of how I feel about this gym after frequently attending for the past 6 months. The good: Lots of equipment for olympic lifting and powerlifting. Platforms and high quality eleiko barbells. No doubt they cost a fortune and I appreciate the gym for putting in the funds. There's a water cooler too at the very least. The Bad: Unfortunately, suffers from the problem of not having any mirrors in the weight lifting area. I understand that one should know how to do the exercises before attempting to do a squat or deadlift but it helps if there were mirrors by which one could check their forms with. Staff are sometimes disinterested with their jobs. This first time I tried signing up, I didn't feel welcomed into the gym and it felt like I was just a nuisance. I go with my gut feeling a lot and so far, I haven't been particularly happy with how things are run here. I also don't get why they have some sort of dislike towards gym bags brought into the gym. I keep my fatgrips jump rope and elastic bands in them and it seems stupid to ban these things in the gym. Am I supposed to grow another set of arms so I can carry everything without a bag? Management is clueless on how to carry its job. All in all, its great if your focus is on powerlifting and olympic weighlifting, but if your goals are just to maintain fitness, you're better off probably at Swift Fitness York or Ebor Fitness. And they don't cost as much and are open for more days in the year than this Sport Centre. You know what, as of today I'm joining swift fitness. Waste of my time being here in this gym

Positive experience: Nice gym and good classes but not as many as the other university gym on the other campus.. Would be amazing to have more choice. Love the possibility to book single classes also without the membership

Negative experience: The gym is way too small for the number of people that use it. And they often lease the gym to the sports team which means half of it gets taken for an allocated time. This then makes the usable equipment left even smaller. They need to make the gym much bigger because at the minute half the time i cant do my workout at a time helpful to me because it is always full. So far a massive waste of money
