Negative experience: I used to think this was just what £20/ month could get you so I didn't think to complain. Then I moved house and went to a different 'budget' (i.e. not David Lloyd) gym in Norwich and ooooh boy, there is a difference. The toilets are always gross, and there aren't enough. The showers, ditto. There is sometimes slime growing on the water fountain. The trainers, whilst friendly, aren't particularly engaged (i.e. won't correct your form in classes, even when the class is small). I guess they do the best they can (?) but its understaffed and sometimes they will be late to classes as they have been fixing up other issues. There are brackets on the walls for cleaning spray but they are never stocked so I guess the equipment doesn't get cleaned after each use (especially in the studio). The classes are often so jam packed that you just have to get there early to get a space - even though there is a booking system. Either they over-subscribe people or people just don't use it. No one actually checks whether you have used the system. Won't be going back in a hurry!

Positive experience: Good location to get to plenty of parking shame cleaners been removed from night time. Gym equipped well but a little dusty and machines not kept up with cleanliness but overall not bad atmosphere. Everything you need in equipment

Negative experience: I've been a member of Pure Gym Ayshlam Road for few years, but that what is going on current is getting worst. Toilets are dirty, there is no toilet paper and no towels to clean the equipment. Only one cleaning station is available for whole gym but you need to be very lucky to find a cleaning towel there. Equipment is all over the place, loads of empty bottles left at the machines and staff don't care at all about cleanliness standards. Many young members who definitely don't look like over 18 years old and looks like no-one from PTs care about that. Also there are many new members who cannot perform exercises with good technique and no-one seems to help them and give advise. New cleaning staff is something else. They're interrupting members while exercising eg. while hoovering or mopping the floor which is by the way very dangerous, expecially that there is no warning sign left about slipping floor near machines (Smith machine area). As per the photo attached there is also mess outside the gym (especially when you want to enter the gym) and no-one is willing to clean it as soon as possible. I understand that's busy place but standards need to be follow and it's getting worst every single year. I guess that's the problem with management who doesn't care about the place and members at all. I'm considering to change the gym as don't feel like to do my workout there anymore.

Positive experience: Been with the gym a couple of years and have decided to change now. The equipment is okay, fairly well equipped (although no hack squat machine). Good amount of squat racks which are rarely all full in the morning. Machines are rarely broken and fairly swiftly fixed when something does break. The atmosphere in the morning is good, generally people keep themselves to themselves or workout with their friends. I've seen a couple of accidents where someone has gone too heavy on the bench press for example, and members run over to help and make sure they're okay. The morning staff seem busy doing classes or one-to-one PT sessions so its hard to catch them if you need help or to ask a question. They are however always friendly and seem to be smiling. The cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired; the juice fountain always stinks and lots of dust between and around the equipment. I dread to think the last time some of the equipment had a full wipe down or sterilise. I don't think the men's showers have ever been cleaned; consistent smell of stale sweat, pubic hairs all over the place and black mould growing in the corners (which wouldn't happen if it was bleached once in a while). The toilets never seem to have soap in them in the morning which is just poor basic hygiene in a place where everyone is touching the same equipment. Hand sanitiser never seems to be filled. Members make zero effort to return weight plates back in an organised manner so I would spend 10-15 mins of my session trying to find or retrieve weights behind other size weights or on the floor somewhere. I know this isn't 100% fault of the gym but if this was more tightly regulated it would make for an improvement. Overall, a good gym especially for a beginner as long as you don't need to use the facilities.

Negative experience: The gym itself is ok but it’s becoming soo intolerable and annoying when the personal trainers do classes and blast out their music to the loudest levels possible, I understand they want boost the spirit of those attending the class but just tooo loud. they need to turn it down please.

Negative experience: I would have to say this is a great gym if you’re new. But overall the gym smells funny never the water Fountain. Not a very good working gym as half of the gym equipment is broken. And gets very busy. I wouldn’t recommend. Not very clean very grubby gym that I have ever been in.

Negative experience: Have been in this gym for around 2 years and have decided to change the gym now. Overall its quite spacious and equipment is not that bad but the toilets and showers are not very good condition, i don’t want to even use those facilities most of the time! The CEO of the company supports a genocide of Palestinian people, also for that (the biggest reason) would recommend to change the gym.

Negative experience: Recently move from another part of the UK. Joined this gym and the place isn't exactly in the best of shape. Whilst it has the necessary equipment several peices of equipment are run down, buttons on treadmill are a good example. I also noticed the showers weren't clean when I was there. Also a lot of reviews are saying this is a pretty cheap gym however without any form of discounts this gym is similar priced to other gyms in Norwich, may have to look around

Positive experience: Good location, lots of parking (and close to the building), a good selection of classes; albeit a little lacking on off-peak classes for those of us that work shifts. Some decent kit. In my opinion, Pure Gym is a good starter gym. Cheap, easy to access and reasonable facilities but I find other gyms more enticing to spend that bit of extra time in e.g sauna and pools and more class options. The kit is mid range, for example the running machines are quite rattly and some buttons a little worn but most is perfectly acceptable. 4/5 clean, easy to access and cheap. Can’t complain.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of PureGym Norwich for over a year now and I can confidently say that it is the best gym I have ever been a part of. The gym studio features are top-notch, with a wide variety of equipment and classes to choose from. Whether I want to do cardio, strength training, or yoga, there is always something for me to do. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the facilities are clean and well-maintained, and the atmosphere is always positive and motivating. Positive experience: It is cheap, local and has all the equipment I need to have a decent workout. However, the place is starting to look rundown, equipment is now starting to fail and takes ages to get fixed/ replaced including the assault bike; changing room is too small with only 3 showers with frequent queues is the morning (made worse when as often one is out of order) and lockers located outside of the changing area; there are only 3 unisex toilets, usually have to queue for the toilet, and they are always running out of bog roll.

Negative experience: The gym is friendly but now looking a little tied. Some times parking is an issue as the residents in the flats opposite clearly use the gym car park. There’s even abandoned vehicles that have been SORNED dumped there.

Positive experience: Great gym, especially for a budget. No yearly contract either. Machines are new and well maintained. Plenty of free weights with ample weight for most gym goers. Men's showers can be a little disappointing. Either not working or not as clean as I'd expected.

Positive experience: I have been to worse gyms and to much better gyms. To be honest the main problem at this gym is the crowd, who do not seem to know how to RE-RACK their heavy plates when done. These are left on the Olympic bars/landmine machine/plate loaded machines when they finish and then they just walk off. There seems to be a complete disregard for people who may not have time to unrack your 150kg for you/may have injuries/may be beginners/unable to physically move your plates. If staff don’t encourage good behaviour, which I see no evidence of, then it will continue.

It is in the gym rules that members should return their own weights or risk suspension, but at peak times especially it can be hard to police this. Positive experience: Good set of equipment for a decent price. Classes are also very good. Mens changing rooms are small and there’s only 3 showers; these also often break or fluctuate heat a lot. It’s also not the cleanest of gyms. You get what you pay for here. Can be VERY busy at peak times.

Positive experience: Generally speaking a very good gym with helpful staff (if needed) and being good value. Sadly the air conditioning has deteriorated. When I first joined late 2020, I always recall the air conditioning was really good compared most gyms. The last year or so though, the air conditioning is now really poor. Not an issue if you’re doing weights but could leave you uncomfortable if doing cardio. Staff when asked have said there’s no issue but it’s clear it’s either not working (less likely) or that it’s set to a different threshold to previously - I can understand the need to limit high energy costs though this is another estimated assumption on my part (also hard for staff to admit that, I get that). Update: I'm happy to resubmit a review if things improve.

Temperatures/air con in our gyms are automatically regulated by Smart machines, but if there is a persistent issue staff may be able to override it and can certainly report it to be checked by engineers. Positive experience: Well-equipped hassle free gym but the toilets are shared and with no urinals so the seats and floor are invariable covered in mens' urine. If I were a woman I would avoid this gym or at least make sure I went to the toilet before going!

Fantastic experience: I love this gym, it could have a wider variety of machines, but it's still good enough to achieve whatever you want to achieve in terms of lifting and fitness goals. I do really gotta go more often, I struggle with lots of anxiety in general but not at the gym.

Negative experience: Unfortunately it could be the better pure gym of Norwich, but when working out in the functional fitness area there is a distinct lack of weights. There is only bumpers so even if no one else is in there using plates you can’t load more than 200kg on a bar without it being unsafe due to the lack of room on the bar and weak collars or the need to carry normal plates across the gym . The spread of the bumpers creates a bend in the bar which is not safe and will also damage equipment. I have spoken to a member of staff about a real need for normal gym Plates in the functional area instead of just near the machines. The remark was there’s nothing I can do, not even offering to speak to senior management . Unfortunately this does mean beyond an entry level of strength the gym isn’t really safe. This could be easily improved. Generally the functional fitness/rig area could do with more plates and collars which don’t move. This should be basic things taken into consideration for the safety of its members as accidents happen when clips fail, bars bend and you need to carry weights across the gym. * update as can’t reply to comment for some reason. It has been mentioned by a friend in a message to the manager to which they were told no. So not much use , hence why I’ve left this review and sent a message to the main Insta account too in the hopes of further investigation.

Fantastic experience: Great value for money and flexible membership. Always plenty of available equipment and spaces on classes. Easy to check class availability, book and make changes on the app. Good range of classes to choose from. PTs are friendly. I normally find gyms intimidating but this one is a nice size (not too small, not too big) and has a good atmosphere. I usually use the gym early mornings and weekends.

Fantastic experience: Simply The best gym I've ever used, given how cheap the membership fee is. It's a shame that there's no puregym near Hethersett as I've now moved to Hethersett. Please could I taks this opportunity to request a Puregym branch near Hethersett please? Positive experience: Since change of manager gym has gone downhill toilets are dirty , never any staff out on floor and managers hide in office so are not approachable equipment needs repairing or replacing weights unorganised

Fantastic experience: Conveniently located gym with a fair sized parking lot. The gym is generally clean and tidy, there are plenty of machines to use and areas ideal for doing free weights. The staff I've seen around are very pleasant and helpful. Reasonably priced with regular classes, including spin.

Negative experience: There is only one button to turn the shower on with absolutely no ability to regulate the temperature. I have an autoimmune condition/disability and the water temperature was extremely hot and couldn’t be changed. The water burned my skin and caused it to peel after I got out of the shower booth. Because of the unadjustable water temperature, I am now in a serious lot of pain and my condition flared immediately and I feel ill. The showers are not disabled friendly, nor convenient for a majority of people. There was even no sticker or sign warning you beforehand that the water is boiling hot. This is harming the safety and health of your clients and can land you a serious lawsuit. As a business who accepts disabled people, why doesn’t it provide accommodating facilities of first need for them ? Hot/boiling water damages your skin and harms your customers and it harmed me

Negative experience: Equipment old and worn out. No staff about to inform not very friendly. People hang around Equipment chatting stopping people who want too use thr equipment from doing so.

Staff do undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that our equipment is fixed as soon as possible, if any should be broken. We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. If you have any concerns about equipment, please speak to a member of staff on site. We are unable to fully monitor our members in the gym however if people are hanging around equipment we would strongly advise approaching a member of staff on the floor who will be able to help further. In the meantime, I hope you're able to make the most of the gym and reach your personal fitness goals. Thanks, PureGym

Fantastic experience: Nice spaced out gym, plenty of the things you'd expect, cardio, muscle building stuff. Not very busy during the day. Good u can bring a friend along few times a month. Staff leave you alone, everything very clean. Lots of lockers, drink machines, and a few changing rooks. Everything you need. Massive car park too just as a bonus.

Positive experience: It's a fantastic gym with a variety of excellent equipment, it's open 24 hours and is probably the best value-for-money gym I've ever used. However, this means that it's also by far the busiest gym I've ever used and I'd go as far as to say it's oversubscribed. In the evenings, the car park is regularly full and cars are abandoned willy-nilly outside the bays in places they really shouldn't be left which makes it awkward to navigate and you have to park in a side street, and then you either have to make your workout up as you go along based on the limited equipment that's available or you have to waste a lot of time waiting for what you want. Obviously it's not in Pure's interest to cap membership, but they really need to think about opening another gym or raising prices to offset the loss of a few members. I'd be happy to pay an extra fiver if it meant the gym was slightly less busy.
