Clarendon Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: I regularly swam here as a child 3 to 4 decades ago (I know, I don't look it, do I?) as it was within easy walking distance of my home then. Many a Saturday morning was spent their at 'Splash' and I even think I went there with school once or twice. I visited the other night for the first time since then, and having lived in Salford all my life I am used to many of our civic buildings slowly turning (on the outside at least) into something more resembling a rebel base or crack den. And here it was - fenced, tinned with nary a window in sight. Razor wire angled away like some high-security facility. The car park was dotted with people sitting in their cars. I assumed waiting for others inside - no one foolish enough to actually leave their car their unattended for long. Indeed, the 10 year old in our car almost proudly proclaimed 'that's where they set that car on fire' as we drove past the football pitch nearby. Inside I hope that things maybe had changed in the decades since my last visit - I was wrong. It looked decrepit. I expect a strong smell of chlorine at a swimming baths but here the sweet accrid fug of some kind of solvent attacked you wherever you went. Rusting and flaking paint was in evidence everywhere and when I went upstairs I could swear (once I stepped over the children just lying on the floor) that it was unchanged. Certainly the furniture (what little there was) had been there for decades and broken and unusable examples were simply moved to the far stairwell. Not quite out of sight - but certainly out of earshot if somebody injured themselves on them at the top of the stairs. The viewing area was just those hard wooden benches with no back rest and no legroom unless you wanted to rest your feet on the shoulders of the person sitting in front of you. After 5 minutes I was watching the clock - not to get on-the-nose timings on the last lengths completed down below (I leave that to the living vicariously, angry-dads) but because I so wished I was elsewhere. Of course this it all our own stupid fault - grotesquely underfunded services like swimming pools and sports facilities in general are a result of two generations of voters reinforcing policies that push these needs to the bottom of the pile and telling our politicians that we don't want to fund our social services, we don't want to fund education and we don't want to fund the health service. You could always go to Irlam - seems almost posh there by comparison. I'd say we were in at the deep end, but Clarendon doesn't really have one.
Positive experience: The wet changing rooms could do with a bit of TLC and the spectator area above the pool is so uncomfortable to sit in. On the positive the staff I saw were very helpful and friendly.
Positive experience: Can’t say anything, their gym is closed +- to the end of May. If you want to go to a gym, not swimming pool, just go somewhere else.
Positive experience: Good prices, great gym and good facilities. Staff are very kind and helpful.
Positive experience: It’s good. But hard flooring may hurt knees in longer run.
Negative experience: Almost ran over by someone driving a white yaris in the car park, reversing without looking, called us names and swearing at us after, then revved away as if he’s in the right, I’m never going here again if that’s the kind of people I have to deal with.
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre with good transport links. The main 25m pool programme is pretty good (although there could be more 1h evening lane swimming sessions) and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Bit of an old facility but it’s one of the best places that I’ve been swimming.
Fantastic experience: Twice a weekly visit, always welcomed with a Smile. 10/10 for staff and centre
Positive experience: Good Indoor recreational facilities including swimming pool.
Fantastic experience: Staff are soooooo lovely and friendly , fabulous swimming teachers
Fantastic experience: Granddaughter enjoyed her swim and great swimming baths for those just starting out
Negative experience: Shower no swimming for single people
Positive experience: Dirty changing rooms especially the wet changing room.
Fantastic experience: Awesome facilities for badminton and swimming
Fantastic experience: Busy place! Friendly staff. Good for badminton.
Fantastic experience: Reasonable equipment, and unlike the other sites, this site is free from segregation
Fantastic experience: Friendly and professionally. Thanks for your help
Fantastic experience: LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO PLAY BADMINTON WITH Above average player, played a lot when younger and want to get back into it. Fast learner and fun person. IG: Ryan7Shearsmith
Positive experience: I play indoor bowls that take place Mondays and Tuesday afternoons
Positive experience: Reasonable facilities but really dated and tired looking
Positive experience: Took the kids to a parkour class here which they loved, the building itself had all we needed which in this case was a sports hall and a vending machine. Staff were very friendly.
Positive experience: Smallish sports centre, the gym was smallisg and empty but it was late on a Saturday, badminton courts were pretty good and good lighting,
Fantastic experience: Every Sunday for 2 hours table tennis
Fantastic experience: Clean changing rooms and professional staff
Positive experience: I am there many days of the week. It is quiet and has an atmosphere of intimacy though on the whole, it is quite expansive. I know how to use most things. I do not feel threatened by anything.
Positive experience: I have used this centre many times in the past 10 years and the issues are always the same. The toilets are not checked often enough in terns of cleanliness and the replenishment of toilet paper etc and the changing rooms are the same. The classes, gym and pool are good, but these things let the centre down.
Positive experience: Need to contact council to stop public parking on double yellow lines opposite car park so coaches can get out
Fantastic experience: Good gym
Positive experience: I just went swimming it's a weird pool the deep part is in the middle but nevertheless at least you can swim and I always feel really clean after I've been swimming it's excellent for getting your nails clean
Positive experience: Great staff very helpful the mayor need to get the new leisure centre built
Fantastic experience: I've been twice now for my covid jabs. Always in and out and very helpful staff. Great care taken.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Had my booster jab
Fantastic experience: Very caring and attentive.. thank you all Xxxx
Fantastic experience: I went for my 2nd vaccine, the hall was clear and enough room for people who wished to keep a distance.
Positive experience: Covid vaccination centre. It was a very efficient service, I was seen in minutes after arriving. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Covid vaccine clinic, very organised
Negative experience: Total Rip off, there monthly contract requires one month written notice to be cancelled which means they will charge you for another month regardless of when you want to cancel. I got an email a year later saying I owe one months payment The lesiure centre is quite small, the gym is tiny and doesn't even have a water dispenser. I've been a member for about 2 months and it has never been packed. 5 people at the most which is good because I like a peacefull workout. Which the price was cheaper though as I don't use the swimming pool or other facilities.
Positive experience: Good parking, great little gym all round decent place
Positive experience: I went there for my covid booster I had my 1st covid jab there and the time before that was40yrs ago playing 5 a side football
Fantastic experience: My wife and I attended for our Covid Booster Jabs. The venue was well organised and the staff were extremely helpful.
Negative experience: I feel this centre is only interested in getting paid from the government for being a covid centre. The gym has now completely changed there opening times which are ridiculous 10-2 on a Sunday I used to get up early and be in there for 8.30am to get my workout done for the day. I don't want to have to go out of my way to go to another centre when this one is on my door step what am I actually paying for??? I'm considering moving gyms all together it's getting silly now what happened to looking after your long standing loyal customers???
Fantastic experience: Covid vaccination done here
Fantastic experience: I have been coming to this leisure centre for many years. So glad its reopened. Staff very helpful.
Positive experience: Run down now, nothing like it was yrs ago
Positive experience: Closed for the foreseeable future due to a fire. Swimming pool is available to use if you book via website, Clarendon isn't on the app for whatever reason no one can explain. Gym, kids swimming lessons. Sports hall.
Positive experience: Website says its open, autistic daughter looking forward to swimming, but it's closed. May not seem much but with an autistic kid it's a different story.
Positive experience: It's OK. Clean, nice staff and good swimming coaches.
Fantastic experience: You can get both first and second jabs of your vaccine here. Both Astrazenica and Pfizer are available in this site but you need to check the Salfold NHS website to find out what kind of vaccine is available on the day you want to attend.
Positive experience: I've only ever been here for my covid vaccine. It was well organised, clean and the staff were nice and polite! The car park was surprisingly functional despite how many people were there to get their jabs.
Positive experience: Needs a proper good cleaning. There's a layer of dust that must be years old all around the sports hall we're the block work ends and the steel work starts. An this is were they doing Covid jabs
Positive experience: This place needs updating overall, but the staff were very kind.
Fantastic experience: If you're in line for the vaccine, this is the best place to get it.
Fantastic experience: Straight in and straight out! That's what it seemed when I had my injection for covid19 in there. Excellent
Fantastic experience: Came for my 1st COVID jab. From walking through the door to getting my jab it must have been around 5 minutes if that. Very well organised and efficient. All volunteers/staff were friendly and professional.
Negative experience: Dirty.
Fantastic experience: Great service from covid staff
Fantastic experience: Go to swimming lessons and cant understand how the heat is acceptable upstairs . With no ventilation . Cant sit in the gallery in the open but can sit in a zero ventilated room .always loved this place and grew up here but just dont get this bit with the covid
Fantastic experience: Went to Clarendon for my 2nd covid jab. It was very busy but there were clear signs where to go to the staff were lovely, and so patient . The wait was not long as the organisation was very well organised making sure people were booked in and given a number. Once your number was called you moved to the next phase and after a few medical questions a nurse came and gave the injection. The venue was clean and cool and parking good.
Fantastic experience: Ooooo I can't tell you how much of a lovely time I had a lovely sunny day and lots of nice people about some lovely trees and some very nice grass
Negative experience: No parking spaces available. 1 hour on queue for 2nd dose of covid vaccine. 1st dose was simple and quick, today felt messy, disorganised and way too long a wait.
Positive experience: Covid jab, well organised
Fantastic experience: Great sized venue. Hosted COVID-19 Vaccines. Good parking.
Positive experience: I only go there, when called.
Fantastic experience: Great place for covid jab.Very quick and well organised.
Negative experience: Took my wife for covid vaccination it was very busy and the car park needs some attention full of potholes
Positive experience: Convenient and with a community feeling
Fantastic experience: Extremely efficient and friendly staff workers , no waiting in queue at all straight away seated for our turns to be vaccinated. Take your text message confirmation along about jabs administration whither its received by text or by post etc .

Positive experience: Covid jab so not to exiting but the way it's done was brilliant
Fantastic experience: Went for second covid vaccination. Very well organised. Arm still bruised after 2 weeks
Positive experience: Was here for Covid vacation so probably not the purpose of the venue. However, the facility looks a bit dated and run down. I believe it's been proposed a few times to knock it down and rebuild. Guess that tell you all you need to know.

Positive experience: Visited for my covid jab so unsure what its like for its normal intended use. Seems well kempt, decent sized sports hall. Knocked off a star as carpark is small and awkward especially when busy.
