Fantastic experience: Lovely medium sized leisure centre with excellent facilities. Perfect for families, singles and disabled access. Parking can be a bit hit and miss between 6 and 7pm as the car park is not adequate for the leisure centre but is free for customers of the leisure centre - DON’T FORGET TO ENTER YOUR REGISTRATION ON THE TABLETS INSIDE!!! They are a bit slow to respond but stick with it and you won’t need to pay for parking :)

Negative experience: Don’t sign up to any gym that are Places. They use a company called Harlands group and I don’t even know how a company like that can even operate without investigation. Just type them in and read the reviews.

Fantastic experience: Visit for swimming every Friday.Friendly atmosphere.

Negative experience: Use any leisure centre except Ripley. They use parking eye for their car park who are absolute cowboys. My Reg failed to register on their internal systems so my word against theirs about whether I registered my details or not. Appalled that this is supposed to be a local authority centre. Never using this centre ever again, should be ashamed using parking eye

Negative experience: Staff very friendly and helpful and parking free as long as you remember to register. BUT communal changing and showering for swimming inconvenient, pool water too cold, especially for older people, and lane dividing floats are hard and have dangerous sharp corners.

Negative experience: So disappointed to be treated as if I was, "trying to pull a fast one!" When my daughter bought a new costume at the Centre and mistakenly took the tag off it before she realised that it was too small. Pretty reasonable on her part at age 6, to think that the 6-7 would fit!! Out of the question to exchange it for the right size, because the tags (that we brought back!) weren't attached, and told I should just "try to sell it on somewhere" !? If I have to lose £24 on a useless swimming costume, I certainly won't spend £30 a month to be belittled by staff, I'm afraid.

Fantastic experience: Warm friendly staff...clean all round, good gym, nice swimming pool.. plenty of parking.

Negative experience: On arrival at Ripley Leisure Centre reception for my daughters gym induction on Tuesday 9th April at 4pm the receptionist was busy on the phone signing up new members. She made no attempt to get someone else to help us and so we stood waiting for ten minutes. When the receptionist had finally finished on the phone she told us that the appointment for my daughters gym induction at 4 which has been booked for us by a receptionist at Alfreton Leisure Centre wasn’t actually booked for 4 as they had nobody to do it at 4. Why wasn’t I told this before I arrived. Last I knew the induction was booked for 4. She again made no attempt to find someone to do the induction for the time it was booked for. This meant myself and a bored 11 year old had to sit in reception for 30 minutes. Bad communication and to be honest the receptionist had a couldn’t be bothered arrogant attitude.

Positive experience: Only visited for a jobs fair but the place looked spic n span.

Fantastic experience: Own a swim membership, no complaints. Parking can be a pain during peak, but great aside from that.

Positive experience: Great little set up but only allowed to use half the teaching pool which seems crazy… teachers are great for swimming lessons staff friendly. Parking can be difficult at times however and some parents are really annoying and leave clothes in changing rooms so you have no where to get changed! Showers can also be cold… but overall it’s clean and inviting

Fantastic experience: Our daughter loves swimming lessons here. The teachers are all good and we have seen a dramatic increase in water confidence. The facilities are clean, looked after, and well managed. Good accessible facilities - there are several blue badge parking bays, 2 disabled toilets, and a wheelchair accessible changing room with shower on the ground floor.

Negative experience: Booked onto family fun session in the mail pool. Lane swimming in one side and kids lessons in the other. This is not our idea of family fun. So we went into the baby pool. After half an hour, a life guard just starting his stint told us we couldn't play with the noodles. Two others before never said a thing to us. Then He told my granddaughter to tidy up the floats ( that were already in the pool). So we left! No fun had today!! Wont be returning.

Negative experience: Received a parking ticket even after inputting number in keypad I have Bank statement to show I was using the center .no help from centre to resolve this I won't use Ripley centre again

Negative experience: Gyms okay, small but busy. Unfortunately, despite being a member of the gym and entering my registration number into the system, I have received two parking fines from parking eye. I have proved my membership and asked the gym to provide proof that I scanned in and was using the gym the exact time I was parked in the car park but I was still charged. This is just frustrating for me as I am tied into a year contract at the gym yet it’s costing me £60 to park in the car park.

Positive experience: Clean and welcoming but the gym facilities are stupidly overpriced when you consider it's by far the smallest gym in town yet charges much more than anywhere else. The flexibility of using Heanor/Alf is nice but doesn't outweigh the daft pricing.

Negative experience: Avoid this place, they use Parking Eye and I fell victim to a £60 fine. I tried getting it cancelled through the leisure centre, who said they cant do anything. I then appealed against the ticket and showed proof that I was attending a basketball session, which was unsuccessful. I wont be returning here, what a joke!!!

Negative experience: Staff always tell you the wrong thing. We have gone swimming here twice and the first time they didnt even book us into the baby pool even after specifically saying "right all booked in" and the second time when booking the baby pool we asked if the big pool would be open and they said "yep the big pool will be open". When we got there the big pool was open and we had only booked 2 in for the small pool (there is 5 of us) wouldnt recommend unless they sort this out

Eeevvvveeery time i try to use it it freezes or says system not available. I dont even know if im Registered!!???! I signed up, got the confirmation email.... it froze.... i tried again. Same. gave up. My partner did the same. Maybe its my phone???. Same. Dudes! Sort it out! Maybe ill just check times?...... freezes up! Did u pay for this to be made by somone I just call. Yes thats fine. Your staff are lovely. But ffs!?!?!!? Xx sorry but its 2022?!?!? Internet presence is pretty key?

Negative experience: Very variable experience. Swimming lessons are not accessible for neurodivergent children. We pay extra for small group teaching as our smalls can't cope with the big lessons and every week another teacher wades in with a couple of kids on a private swimming lesson every week and just wades through the middle of the ongoing lesson with her 2 charges and proceeds to make use of the whole pool playing games. Bearing in mind this is a small group lesson with the teacher in the pool for children who cannot access the other lessons and are therefore more expensive it's thoughtless and rude. It disrupts the lesson and distracts the children already in the pool. Changing rooms are utterly filthy. Parking eye are not at all disabled friendly and is basically another tax at Ripley since the other venues don't use it. My parking should come with the exorbitant gym fee and swimming lessons I already pay. Now I'm £20 down for a wrong letter on the reg.

Positive experience: A solid gym for being outside of a large city. A number of a membership options with an option to pay £7 for a single drop in session though you need cash for the parking lot which is £0.50 per hour.

Fantastic experience: Front staff and pool staff are amazing help and this place offers a lot for your money. The young lad upstairs in the gym who is the personal trainer is a fantastic example of how personal trainers should be like. A couple of the others however are a little invasive and try to offer help when they aren't wanted. Definitely recommend all the services here. Thumbs up from me apart from the one female dark haired personal trainer who's name escapes me. She isn't very helpful and seems to feel put out when you speak to her. Plenty of parking and with membership you get a permit.

Negative experience: Ripley leisure centre,the watt bike water holder as been broken for over a year now,I have told them about it,more times than I can remember,they can take the membership money no problem, but can't replace a plastic water holder,paints a picture of the place ah!!

Fantastic experience: For me Ripley leisure center is one of the best gyms in the area. It has all the facilities that you'd expect from a leisure center and as a gym the freeweight section is great. If you are I to using a lot of machines this gym may not be for you but some of the other gyms in the area offer this at a lower price. The booking system means I don't have to worry about the gym being rammed and having to wait to get on things I want to use. The staff are very helpful and it's nice to have a parking permit as a member.

Positive experience: Shocking Customer Service today. Not mentioning names but the management staff need a lesson in Customer Service. Only played half an hour of Badminton due to a broken racquet and I understand we cannot borrow racquets anymore due to Covid-19. Advised perhaps we could get a refund for the other half of time. Manager refused. She said it was not possible because they are one hour slots. Could she not suggest giving a discount for the next play, even if it was out of the normal process? Or at least be empathetic that we couldn't play anymore. 'It's not our fault your racquet is now broken.' I never blamed you. I think you need to think about how you treat loyal customers in these difficult times. Edit: Customer Service seems to have improved since the pandemic and the person mentioned above doesn't seem to work there anymore.

Fantastic experience: This is the first time I've been since lockdown to restart my sons swimming lessons. The site was marked out well and had strong systems in place for distancing/separate exits etc. Staff knew the rules and managed customer expectations appropriately. Have no concerns with attending in the future.

Fantastic experience: It's not a bad wee gym. It's small but it has the kit you need. Extra benches and squat racks would be ideal, however.

Negative experience: Had an awful experience at Ripley Leisure Centre on Feb18th. Took the grandchildren for the 'inflatables' session. Little did I realise that I wouldn't be allowed in the water to swim while they enjoyed themselves. I was told I HAD to go on the inflatable or not go in the water at all. I had a couple of goes but fell down both times. On the second ocassion I twisted my knee so got out. I stood in the shallow end of the pool to keep an eye on my grandson but was again told I could not be there. In the end they allowed me to sit on the side of the pool to keep an eye on my grandson. I do think it should have been made clear that adults were not allowed in the water unless they were going on the inflatable. If I had known I would never have brought them to this session. Not happy at the way I was treated by the young staff! ... I feel that more experienced personel would have made allowances for an OAP who had arrived at the session by mistake and allowed the OAP to swim in the unused area of the pool or at least walk up & down in the water near to the side. NOT made her sit cold & shivering at the side of the pool. I don't think they'd faced this situation before and they didn't handle it very well.
