Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend using their venue for functions as the venue is a beautiful and an amazing place. The staff were absolutely wonderful and very professional and helpful in every way. Shana the events manager was a complete star she went above and beyond to help us all the way throughout to organise our Grandmother's wake. I would highly recommend this venue and myself and my family would like to thank Shana and her team for everything they have done for us and we would definitely use the venue again for future functions. Positive experience: Golf course in very good condition. Health centre and bar very busy. TBH it feels a bit impersonal, like it's too big for it's own good. But clearly very popular, so they must be getting something right.

Negative experience: Golf balls seem to be broken. My driver only goes 300 yards but when I play on the course it goes 500

Positive experience: 18 hole course is brilliant, little 9 is a nice tight little course to work on your short game. Expensive for what it is though, staff very militant about tee off times, no one was on the little 9 and we asked to go round a second time (willing to pay) but they wouldn't let us and they lost out on an extra £50 of business

Negative experience: Interesting pitch and putt with a couple of longer holes but it’s marred by the fact you cannot use a tee anywhere if you want to. The mats are built on concrete which damage your clubs so you have to play in front or behind on uneven ground. Really frustrating to the point where I wouldn’t go again.

Fantastic experience: I would like to thank Birchwood park for the beautiful celebration of life for my late father, Douglas James Collins . I would personally like to thank Sharna the events organiser, and the bar manager Katie and Sue who cooked the wonderful food. Sharna organised everything perfectly. Monday 12 August was the hottest day of the year, and the air conditioning in the Kelvedon suite was so cooling. The venue and the buffet was brilliant and so apt as myself and my father were members at Birchwood for many years. Thanks again Sharna, the day was made extra special by your attention to detail. Fantastic experience: We went to Birchwood Park to attend a celebration of a beautiful life cut sorrowfully short, and not to play golf. That said, we were greeted by beautiful and immaculately kept grounds that were being used by plenty of golfers engaged in their sport. The views were nothing short of stunning, the atmosphere serene. The room we were in was spacious and light with a sheltered balcony and easy access to bathroom facilities. All guests were made to feel very welcome by all members of Birchwood Park's staff from serving staff to the bar manager: I felt they appreciated the solemness of the occasion, and were beyond courteous. The afternoon tea provided was fulsome, with copious amounts of sandwiches - quality fillings well presented. We all to a man left feeling much more relaxed, even in spite of the initial purpose of us coming together: I think that the venue combined with the way we were all looked after by the staff had a lot to do with this.

Negative experience: Invest and spend some money on the Tees on the 9 hole course, it is like hitting off concrete and can damage golf clubs.

Fantastic experience: Went here for a barbecue and although everything is lovely about the place, I think the ticket price was a bit high

Positive experience: Went to a wedding there. Nice venue, the food was ok although there was a long wait between courses. The staff were pleasant and very helpful. The bar service was quite slow it was a Monday so I think they were short staffed

Negative experience: This is purely in relation to the 18 hole golf course. Didn't use any other facilities. A golf course that has so much potential! Would love to give it a better rating but I just don't see how I can. Extremely overpriced. Extremely slow pace of play. Don't think they've ever heard of water at that course as the "fairway" are bone dry. Tee boxes are littered with divots causing uneven surface. Fairways not cut so nearly same length as the rough. Several Greens had damage such as rabbit holes. One green looked as though part of it had been resurfaced in one area, but poorly done and uneven. None of the bunkers were raked and they were just in terrible condition with lack of sand and animal holes around them. Was looking forward to playing this course but I have to say I wouldn't have paid anymore than £25 for the green fee. Massively overpriced and wouldn't recommend to anyone. Wish I took photos as evidence. I see other golfers have mentioned similar issues, but birchwood reply to everyone along the lines of "we generally have good feedback about our course condition".... Shocking really and delusional to believe that. Will ensure me or any other golfer I know go no where near this overpriced course.

Positive experience: Very good driving range with trackman. Food and drinks available at the bays. Asked in the shop if they had any demo irons to try on the range but only available through a fitting. Missing a trick here as who is buying a set of irons or driver without trying. Found staff in the shop and on the range very helpful.

Negative experience: totally disappointed! For £45 a round, you would expect the condition to be in tip top where it should be. The greens were covered in pitch marks, which reflects the level of players over here. I got fed up of trying to repair 6-7 on each green after about 11 holes and gave up. the Tee boxes penned you in to a gap of approx. 1.5M, which were quite often, barren of any real grass. The fairways were cut nicely though. Still a lot of standing water about, which with the amount of rain we've had i can understand a bit, but again, what is the £45 paying for? not irrigation it seems?. Starter on the first was nice and well organized. Pro shop nicely stocked. The bar area was contactless payments only (come on, it will not be a good day when we are all forced to be rid of cash, and Covid was over a year ago now). As a course, its a typical resort type with wide open fairways and very little danger. It was Blowing a gale as quite exposed out there. Some interesting hole layouts too. Its a nice enough course, but no way worth £45 when there's others out there for a little more or less in much better condition. For the record, i played here about 9 years ago, and remember it in far better condition than it is now.

Fantastic experience: Great place modern building and very nice surroundings. We use the golf range regularly in the summer from my 12 year right up to my 80 year old mum we all enjoy it here. So good for all the family. Toilets onsite, beverages available as well as snacks and hot food. Free parking onsite staff really friendly and helpful.

Fantastic experience: I have had the pleasure of shooting several weddings at Birchwood Park Golf and Country Club. The Clubhouse hosts their ceremony room on the first floor, overlooking the rolling fairways and lake, and is a beautiful room offering plenty of natural light for photographs. There is plenty of outside space for group photos, candid documentary photography and couple portraits. The staff are helpful and professional.

Negative experience: Upkeep is very poor of this place. Swimming pool and showers have mould build up. Locker rooms are super cold and benches have mud on them because dirty golf players bring mud in and do not bother cleaning after themselves. Swimming is always occupied by lessons and old people dancing classes. Very limited restricted timings to take kids to their pool.

Fantastic experience: We provided casino tables for a charity fundraiser here , lovely venue the decor was stunning a lot of effort had been put in in making the space glamorous and comfortable.staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend as a great venue for any event.

Negative experience: First off it looks lovely when you show up with the clubhouse but it's downhill from there. Just so you know I spent £70 for two people and a buggy. Was a deal for after two, otherwise it's £35 per person without a buggy. Staff were fine, friendly, professional no problem there but my issue is the price you pay for what you get. Now I'm not a snob but at Mardyke in Essex their carts have GPS for the holes and are nice, you have basic ones here. Costs about £20 to play there so you'd think for £35 per person you'd get top tier equipment. Also the cart path is non existent and confusing to get around certain parts. Course itself was nice but nothing amazing, some left some right, no water holes apart from it being a hazard on two holes. The greens were very good and challenging to be fair. My biggest issue here was 3 holes had loads of work being done, two had temporary greens, and that's fine but there was no mention of that booking online or when we got our scorecard otherwise I definitely wouldn't of booked. And to pay full price for that amount of work going on is disgusting. Just a shame really, expected alot more for the price you pay. My advice is go play cranham, Essex, for £18, impeccable course and well maintained. And if they are doing work they tell you.

Fantastic experience: Love everything about this place...been coming here for years and it only gets better...latest thing I like is the trackman driving range...the staff who work there are the most happy set of young and willing client service reps providing a fomidable client experience for the aspiring golfers practising on the range or patrons just looking for an enjoyable event with food and drink....they definitely have good careers ahead of them in whatever industry they select...well done!

Positive experience: Lovely range and staff, but don’t bother showing up for a bucket of balls after work on a Friday as you may not get to hit. Arrived Friday 17:45 when Google said the driving range was only “a little busy”. In fact it was FULL and looking like a 30 min wait for even a single bay to open up. I left disappointed. Would be nicer if half the bays weren’t reserved for premium-paying customers.

Fantastic experience: Frequently visit the range and enjoy Trackman - the interactive games have helped me and a friend gradually improve whilst still being fun to play. And you can have a beer whilst playing. Always friendly staff, who were great when we were last there as part of a stag group.

Positive experience: Course is in good condition but the 15th hole continues to be a joke Ridiculously wasy to lose a ball and impossible for a medium to high handicapper to play even moderately well. In short it is unfair

Negative experience: Came to view. Parking was shocking. Asked for help at front desk but unfortunately very unhelpful. Overheard them speak to someone else in a very hostile way. The bad reviews on here are on point.

Negative experience: I played golf yesterday evening. Teeing off at 1720. The club overbooks the tee off times. Waiting on every single tee box, roughly 7-10 minutes. Not an enjoyable experience. Should organise the situation better. It would be ok if it was reasonably priced, however paying £31for this experience is simply not good enough for a tee time after 1700, we had no chance of competing our round. Be aware - if you play at weekends. You’ll experience a long round.

Fantastic experience: Enjoyable round of golf, with a reasonable visitor green fee on a Thursday afternoon. Course and greens in great condition and plenty of doglegs and elevations to test all abilities.

Positive experience: 90 pound for a 2ball round, only to turn up and they’ve booked 2 other people on our slot, so not a 2 ball a 4 ball with 2 random people weve never met! Waste of 4 hours terrible experience, have played here before and seems to be an ongoing thing, won’t be coming back

Fantastic experience: Just did the 'Learn golf in a day' at Birchwood, absolutely brilliant and I would highly recommend for anyone looking at getting into golf or needs an all round golf lesson. Well done to Stephen Lee for your excellent tuition

Positive experience: Attended our social club's annual BBQ & disco. Easily accessible by car with plenty of parking. Food was good and plentiful, with dietary restrictions catered for. Unfortunately there was no aircon in the function room which became quite uncomfortable on a hot, humid night, even with the patio doors open, and the dance floor was microscopic.

Fantastic experience: Went to the golf pro shop to buy a pair of golf shoes. Very helpful, polite staff and got exactly what my husband wanted. Wish we had gone there first before trying American golf, they couldn't be bothered whether they served us or not!

Positive experience: Prices going up, generally a facility not working. If it's not the outdoor jacuzzi, it will be the steam or shower outside this. Bar prices do not attract members to stay. Good gym facilities in both weights and cardio. Great staff in front of house.

Negative experience: I joined Birchwood mainly for the location/gym & spa but I will not be renewing when the year is up. I liked the facilities despite the initial tour which wasnt very good. I spoke to the manager who was very nice and sorted out my membership. Several new members and 2 class instructors I've gotten to know since asked whether I had received my complimentary guest passes which I hadn't so I spoke to someone who said he would find out but didn't call me back, I chased him 2.5 weeks later but all he said was no to the passes with no explanation. I wrote to the manager and she said the same but couldn't tell me what the criteria is to receive them. I viewed 4 other health clubs before I joined and they were all very friendly and offered guest passes upon joining and each quarter after which as far as I know all clubs do. Can't fault the classes I have been to (body pump with Elaine, boxercise and power spin) the instructors are all very welcoming, nice and good at what they do. Unfortunately 2 of my friends decided not to join Birchwood due to the issue I encountered with the passes which for other clubs is part of the package. Showers are in desperate need of a refurb, the car park recently had issues with break ins/theft, the club has hired a security firm for a period of time but it's still worrying. The steam room was recently closed for a week, the outdoor hot tub is often closed, one day I was in the spa there was a power cut. A few people told me that was not the only time it happened, on one occasion they were evacuated. I've only been a member for a few months but have experienced a number of problems, many times during my visits there is always something not working which can be frustrating when the membership isn’t cheap. In the spa members are always complaining about different issues at the club including how they are treated so it seems they have many improvements to make.

Positive experience: Enjoying the company of our 2 grandsons we headed for some golf practice. Very well organised, friendly service, just a short wait for our booth. New experience, 15 pounds for endless balls, amazing , video assistance play different courses and see where the ball flies, plus all the techy stuff. Ordered snacks were bought to the booth, nice touch. No pressure, we had fun and the boys learnt a few new techniques. Parking ,no problem. An enjoyable couple of hours!

Fantastic experience: A fantastic place to play golf, go to the fully equipped gym, go swimming, go to the adult only spa area with inside/outside jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, go to numerous classes (spin classes are awesome) Staff are great, friendly and knowledgeable. Love it

Fantastic experience: We used the golf course private room for our mothers wake, excellent from start to finish. We hired the room for 4 hours we payed for food and tea and coffee station and was given our own private barman. We had three members of staff for the whole time we had the room. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Very professional people and the room had a balcony over looking the golf course. I can’t praise them enough.

Negative experience: Emailed a few times enquiring about hiring for a wedding. No one replied to any emails. So had to book elsewhere. Losing out on business because of not answering enquiries.

Negative experience: I stopped going to birchwood about 5years ago due to the fact that the coarse is constantly overbooked. This causes a lot of standing around waiting on tees and fairways. Thought I would try it again over the Christmas break and sadly it has got worse.

Negative experience: Played the trackman range. Only 1 in 5 ball’s registered absolute waste of time and money. Won’t be back any time soon will stick with topgolf. Yes I spoke to the young girl behind the bar and she didn’t seem that interested.

Negative experience: Real shame about how slow the golf is, 3 groups waiting on the 5th tee. Again on the 15th tee there is 3 groups waiting. Golf course is in good condition but being held up by a 4 Ball with buggies on every hole has been impossible to play

Fantastic experience: This place is my church. And made all the better for always being well staffed with polite, smiley and professional people. Always clean, well managed and maintained and great facilities. I also like that it feels way less pretentious than other places I've been to. Oh and the food is really good too, punching way above their weight!

Fantastic experience: Review based on the driving range. We’ve now booked the VIP areas a few times and had nothing but good experiences. The staff are lovely and always helpful, I can be difficult at times (not unfriendly at all, just like to lean on people a bit!), and they couldn’t be more accommodating. Always clean and today, and nothing is too much trouble. 10/10.

Positive experience: Tough little course, mixed bag of holes with some tricky bunkers and well placed pins. A good course. Although you can get motorbikes and quad bikes tearing the course and holes up on occasions!

Positive experience: My local golf club, I'm not a member bit of a last min booking was quite expensive more or less £80 for 2 people at half 3 plus a buggy which was £50 but you get £20 back. The course is good but due to the heat and dry weather the only thing that's green are the greens and tee boxes apart from that the ground was rock hard and the grass was dead. Not worth that price at all. Had issues when booking wasn't told we could be doubling up and at reception was never told until on the first tee so the game took longer and being held up by people looking for their balls at a busy time which is not golf etiquette. I'm the end all of this money we left after the 9th hole which took 2.5hrs. Spoke about getting some money back but no manager was in so couldn't do anything.

Positive experience: Not what it was a few years ago. Greens have seen much better days, bare patches, many different types of grass. Pretty big stones still in bunkers so check before you play from them. Maintenance issues maybe???

Negative experience: Met a friend there for coffee, which then turned into lunch! Nothing special, but then I'm not a member! Lunch was a prawn sandwich with salad (!) and crisps (!) and what tasted like margarine!!! Good grief!!

Positive experience: This golf course is a really nice place to play the design is good it's very forgiving for a novice and the greens are in very good condition considering the hot weather we have and in comparison to other course greens. I find the other golfers are friendly . The fairways are very fast at due to dry weather

Positive experience: Clean and tidy members area with professional staff for classes. All in all a solid gym that is not big and not too small for the number of members. Classes are also done by competent staff, yoga is especially solid (wish there were a few more classes). Was pleasantly surprised by how clean the place was, hope that this continues.

Positive experience: Went for a wake. Nice venue plenty of parking polite and friendly staff. They also have events like a Queen tribute band in October. Well worth a check out.
