Highlights:
- Friendly and helpful staff who create a welcoming environment.
- Swimming lessons available seven days a week, accommodating all skill levels.
- Family-friendly facilities with unisex changing rooms and a variety of changing options.
- Great outdoor and indoor amenities, including a sauna and family swim sessions.
- Affordable pricing for the range of services offered.
While many users praise the cleanliness and community spirit, some have noted instances of disorganization and the cold temperature of the pool. Parking is also a minor issue, as visitors must pay and it can be limited during peak times.
Despite a few drawbacks, Burnham-on-Sea Swim & Sports Academy is highly recommended for its quality instructors, safe environment, and overall enjoyable experience.
Burnham-on-Sea Swim & Sports Academy: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Lovely
Fantastic experience: Good swim
Negative experience: We came to your facilities to use your pool today we had a pleasant swim but was not told there was only half an hour left of the session. We paid the full the price which was about £60 in total, The attitude of the staff was disgusting no apology for not informing us it was only 20 mins we had left .
Positive experience: Has a gym, swimming pool and a cafe. The pool is the typical rectangular shape. There is a sauna by the gym, the gym equipment seems fairly new. Cost isn't bad for the area, one downside is you have to pay to park.
Fantastic experience: Excellent local facility, friendly staff, highly recommended for all ages and abilities
Fantastic experience: Great place just a bit dirty in changing rooms after swimming lessons
Positive experience: Lovely pool, a little limited for open pool times in the past, hopefully things are better now, have to wait and see.
Fantastic experience: My first visit, granddaughters swimming lesson. Normally I find the noise excessive but it was very relaxed and the tea was excellent. This, in my opinion is the nicest pool in the area
Fantastic experience: swin good water
Negative experience: Daughter has been going here for swimming lessons for over 5 years, very very slow progression with constant teacher changes. Price has recently been increased and the lesson time has been reduced to 20 minutes, not worth the effort. Unfortunately there aren't many swimming pools in the area so these guys dont need to be particularly competitive. The staff have never been overly friendly either.
Fantastic experience: 7th session today of a block of swimming lessons for 2 children in 2 small groups but with same instructor. Lizzie has been a great teacher, providing variety and fun, and been positive about working with the kids to use their suggestions to keep them involved in the sessions using a range of equipment. Communicates well with the kids and importantly with the parents so everyone understands Their current progress and the expectations to work on to achieve goals should the kids be keen to push on. Reception and other facilities we've used are good, and it's great to see a real team effort in the cafe when the classes pour.out and 20 people want serving all at once, managers and reception staff pitch in to get everything running efficiently. Only minor qualm would be that the shared parking isn't always able to cope with even 2/3 of the cars needing to use it (that's outside the centre's control, but always good.to.be aware of)
Fantastic experience: Excellent staff. Lovely pool. Our boys love their lessons here and their leisure time here when we come.
Positive experience: Swimming lessons are great. Can park but you have to pay for and is not refundable when using pool. Decent facilities with unisex changing room, cafe, toilets and showers and daughter has quickly advanced with the right coach. Would recommend
Negative experience: when i said my mum was in a wheelchair and had armbands, they pushed her in and deflated her arm bands. they were new! they also popped the tires of her wheelchair and then proceeded to rip her fake leg clean off. then after all the hassle, they 200 pumped my mum. not all bad tho, as i got a free coffee for the accidents that occurred. gg’s.
Negative experience: Arrived a bit late as got lost as sat nav took us wrong way but finally got there. From the outside it looks quite nice, bare in mind you have to PAY at the meter. Inside was small but clean, staff seemed disinterested and felt like they didn’t want to be there. Small cafe area that looked a bit derelict. The changing rooms are mixed genders, there’s no women or mens. Lockers were there and cost £1, showers were warm (not cold but not hot). The pool is very cold, I was still shivering after being in the pool for an hour, my body never “heated up” because it was so cold. The shallow end? Basically non existent as the kids were on their tippy toes, I believe it’s a 1.9m but could be wrong. After an half an hour they tell you to get out the pool and leave. Not worth £10 as I’d rather pay more to go somewhere its warmer.
Negative experience: We visited today with our 3 children aged 9,10 and 8 months. The pool was absolutely freezing. The changing rooms were very smelly and not overly clean. Won't be returning.
Fantastic experience: Really clean, friendly and bright swimming pool. It’s very straightforward here - one big pool with a shallow end just right for 4 to 5 year olds and above, down to a deep end of about 3M, with plenty of length and space for grown ups to exercise and relax too. With lots of pools nearby with kids attractions / slides etc, it’s nice to have one which is calmer, simpler and just straightforward. The facilities are all clean, spacious and easy to use - and all lockers are large enough to fit plenty of kit inside. The only warning is if arriving by Sat Nav, use your eyes at the end of the journey and don’t do what we did, turning into an adjacent residential street and needing to make a tight turn to get back out. Look for the entrance to the community centre car park and then continue round back to parking for the sports centre.
Positive experience: The pool and the staff are great. The toilets however are disgusting. The pans and toilet seats are dirty. Some new seats and deep clean of the pans is required.
Fantastic experience: If you're looking for swimming lessons for your children, then this is the place to take them! Other local swimming pools, like Weston or Backwell, still have very long wait times for new starters. However, when we were looking to get our children started, they had immediate dates available. Lessons take place seven days a week, with after-school times available or early mornings on the weekends. The staff are very friendly and engaging with all the children, and they try hard to get the most out of each student. The staff are also very kind and caring, offering extra support and guidance for some of the more nervous students. The changing rooms are unisex, with lockers available that cost £1 each (refundable). There are some larger family changing rooms that are big enough to accommodate larger families with multiple younger children. Additionally, there are rooms that are big enough for one adult and one child, as well as single-space changing rooms. There is one set of disabled access toilets located on the ground floor by reception. Also, on weekends, they offer family swim sessions which are great for all ages. The pool staff bring out floats, some of which are very large, big enough for children to climb all over. There is always a good number of lifeguards available during these sessions, so you feel like they are paying close attention to the safety of all the patrons.
Fantastic experience: We've just joined as members and have had a great experience. All the staff and fitness class instructors have been so welcoming and caring. Changing rooms are really clean. Café has good snacks. Gym equipment has just been refreshed. Pool is absolutely warm enough. So glad we have this in our town.
Fantastic experience: Great pool, great staff, great people
Fantastic experience: Brilliant
Fantastic experience: Good service pleasant staff
Positive experience: Really nice pool for a swim in winter, very warm pool and a decent price. Lifeguard on duty and a cafe on site
Positive experience: Can not sing the praises high enough for the staff at this facility. My two children love their swimming lessons (and one was very unsure to start with) and their development is amazing. The downfalls are that with after school lessons we seem to contend with the changing rooms always smellling of urine and lack of cubicals for changing as others store their stuff in the cubicals even after multiple signs and plenty of lockers.
Fantastic experience: Friendly and helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Fantastic for a dog walk on a sunny autumn day
Fantastic experience: Can't fault it. Good swimming pool with attentive life guards. We use the family fun and floats hour and it's great with plenty of buoyant devices available.
Fantastic experience: Great swimming lessons for kids here!
Fantastic experience: Lovely swim here , very clean staff friendly and helpful.
Positive experience: Great swim. Sometimes a smell of blocked drains or urine smells. Staff helpful and friendly swim 2 to 3 times a week the people there are great
Fantastic experience: fab
Fantastic experience: Lovely and accomodating
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, pool nice and clean, nice lifeguards. Feel it is good value for money.
Negative experience: Me and my class went their because our school forced us(twice). It was horrible!!!! Freezing cold, mean staff , when I was 7 or 8 and I was their I was pushed in with a stick by the lifeguards or someone and on the last day when we had a "fun class" it was horrible because only the good swimmers got good things to play with and they had all the space while the worse swimmers had small pool noodles and no space. Horrible place wouldn't recommend
Negative experience: Attended an Aquafit class here on Monday. Very dissatisfied!! Suppose to be water resident excercises but the class was so busy that we could only fit in the shallowest part. The water came just to the top of my legs. "Pointless!". Left after 20 minutes still shivering...
Negative experience: Had a poor experience at this pool! Used for the first time and was hoping to use on a weekly basis... Booked in for the aqua class on Monday evening it was so over subscribed and too busy. I could only fit in the shallowest part of the pool. As this is a water resistants class and I was only in the water up to my waist it didn't work at all when having to move both arms and legs at the same time under the water. The classes are more expensive than other pools too! The instructor could see it was difficult but ignored the situation. My friend and I left the class after 20 minutes. I have emailed the manager but no response?
Fantastic experience: I've been learning to swim at Burnham-on-Sea Swim & Sports Academy for 3 1/2 months now and I'm still going strong. The instructors are friendly, supportive in a way that helps me progress well as an individual would need it to be while learning something new like swimming. The whole team has always been there through my ups and downs with this challenging sport. Additionally, the instructors pay close attention so you learn everything correctly from the beginning till the end which is very important. Burnham-on-Sea Swim & Sports Academy has come to represent everything right when it comes to learning how to swim: their staff truly cares about helping people succeed on their journey! So special mentions must go out to Jeannie Fry, George Vowles, & Steven Howe who have been amazing.
Negative experience: Do not recommended this pool for Swimming Lessons. No progression, groups way too over crowded, my daughter did not get challenged or taught anything, seems to me like they like to keep the children in low stages too long to get more money, very poor manager called Martin who wasn’t capable of handling a complaint. AVIOD !!!!!
Fantastic experience: Swimming classes excellent for my son who is 8, great teaching and good atmosphere..
Fantastic experience: All good, comprehensive offers. Like it.
Fantastic experience: Nice pool and great staff
Negative experience: Swimming ♀️is the best place to be wherever you go thats it
Negative experience: Presently you have to pre book for the fun and floats session. I had to cancel due to my daughter being unwell. I gave them 24hrs notice and they still would not give me a refund. I was told to email the owner, which I have done and no response. A poor show really as they were quick enough to cancel the booking slot.
Fantastic experience: Went here for a hour swim on our weeks holiday, pool was great.
Fantastic experience: Had a great time. Really enjoyed float and fun with nephew's kids.
Fantastic experience: Great float session kids loved it
Fantastic experience: Safe and clean. A fiver for one hour. Book on line only...plenty of sessions to choose from
Negative experience: Terrible customer service, nice pool. Won’t be going back as had bad service more than once.
Negative experience: Attended their Saturday morning fun session. Unfortunately very little fun was allowed. My 4yr olds (who would have been under constant supervision) weren't allowed to try out their snorkel and only certain floats were allowed to be used. No towels were allowed to be brought through to the pool side. With no towels I felt very exposed, I have very little body confidence, plus my young children were cold when they got out. All our local pools encourage getting changed on the sides, due to covid. Here you are encouraged to go into changing rooms. Luckily we were only here on holiday, so we won't be needing to return.
Positive experience: Awesome
Fantastic experience: Nice has swimming lessons here. She is becoming a very strong swimmer.
Fantastic experience: Top quality instructors and state of the art facilities. It is a training pool so is colder than most. Staff are friendly and know their stuff.
Negative experience: I would not give this place 1 star if I could help it.told it was a great pool.we went as a family of 5 for the float and fun session.a cpl of floats were thrown in.wasnt allowed a beach ball in there although was not much there at all.also could only use a quarter of the pool as the rest is too deep even for me and my 5 foot 9 hubby!!then they decided to close a section off for lessons!!also a bad smell in there.not worth the money. Will not be returning
Fantastic experience: Great swimming teachers, felt very safe.
Fantastic experience: Nice, clean friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: As brilliant as before!
Fantastic experience: Or sum its gud for kids to swim 20p
Fantastic experience: Fab wonderful staff and cleanliness...
Fantastic experience: Good clean pool with nice cafe and viewing area
Fantastic experience: Friendly, staff great place to train
Positive experience: It is a brilliant swim and sports center I go there to do my triathlon training (swimming, running and cycling). The coaches are very nice. It has a gym upstairs and if your in the gym and your child is in the pool then u can still watch them while u are in the gym. U can also see your child swim downstairs. Next to the seating area u can grab a drink as it's a mini Starbucks. U can also grab some sweets for your child to have after they have cam out of the pool. There is a ramp so people in a wheelchair can still access the center. There is disable parking spaces aswell. U do have to pay to park in the car park (but it isn't that much). The girls and boys changing rooms are put together and there I enough cubicles for everyone. So if u are a dad and u are taking tour daughter swimming then it won't be embarrassing if u go in with her (as if the changing rooms were separate then u would have to go in the men's changing rooms with your daughter. (it would be the same if u were a mum and u were taking your son swimming but just the other way round. It has 3 toilets and 1 disable toilets it also has multiple baby changing facilities in th changing rooms. In some of the bigger changing rooms it has a special seat for a toddler and a strap so that the toddler won't wonder around or fall out of the seat. It also has 4 showers (that aren't cubicles) and 6 showers (that are cubicles).
Fantastic experience: Back to the pool after such a long break due to the virus. It’s great to be back. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into the preparations for us to return to the pool and gym. Everywhere is fresh and clean, staff are welcoming and helpful. If visitors are sensible and co operate with the health advice it should keep us all safe and give us the chance to enjoy this excellent facility in Burnham on Sea. Special thank you to Tori for aqua fit yesterday and today. I will be there again on Friday. Really hope Emma’s Thursday aqua class will be able to start up again soon.
Fantastic experience: Relaxed easy shopping everything you need
Positive experience: Lacks facilities in my opinion but good place to burn some calories once or twice a week
Positive experience: Viewing gallery was good. Very hot
Fantastic experience: 5 stars for a great team. Martin and Paul are coaching my kids. They get the best out of them with a great positive attitude. They love going there. The centre is spotless with everything you need.
Fantastic experience: It's great
Fantastic experience: We love it here. Adult lane swimming and variety of fitness classes is first class
Fantastic experience: Good size pool, ideal for serious swimmers. Small cafe available in viewing area. Temperature of pool on the cold side, not conducive for nervous 'learners!'

Fantastic experience: Very friendly local pool, lots of community spirit.
Fantastic experience: Kids love to swim here, not as busy in holiday season so plenty of room to have a great swim and for some aqua fun.
