Negative experience: I cannot stress anough how bad anytime fitness is. I have not been a member for years but they have broken GDP regulations by passing my details fraudulently to a debt collector. No branch I have contacted had been able to answer my queries not a repeatable company. So much so that the company head office number online is not valid. Be warned people.

The lady on the reception told me very clear that it was every month payment. And i was not told anything about the contract. Its totally fake what they do. Fantastic experience: After being out of the gym for 6 years, I signed up without much thought so I couldn't talk my way out of it. Being anxious to actually go after signing up is an understatement. Ian put me at ease and is a top guy. Having been used to mostly meatheads managing gyms with their egos, it was a pleasant surprise to have someone like Ian who has time for you regardless of how small your issue is. One of the friendliest guys I've met and always greeting everyone in the gym and checking up on them upon their arrival. The community at this gym is incredible. Never felt out of place once being here. Natural light either side of the gym is nice and its always been clean every time I've been. Individual shower/changing rooms are always clean and the gym itself contains pretty much anything you'll ever need.

Negative experience: Staff are lovely, but be careful signing up to this gym. If you move and have no access to a gym there is 15 mile radius cancellation clause. I have moved due to my current landlord selling and have no way of getting to any of these gyms but their office will not allow me to cancel until end of contract no matter the circumstances and even if these are out of your hands.. I have no way of getting close to any of these gyms….15 miles radius would mean the other side of London would seem suitable for me to get to? They also go by the mileage on their website which is not true to how far their gyms actually are from an address as these do not take into consideration roads or paths. Also the cheek of the branch to call me back to say I could walk or cycle to the gym rather than accepting that this is not feasible for me to access these gyms as they are indeed too far to travel. I was going to this gym as it was convenient and 2 minutes walk from my now sold flat… Unable to cancel the auto renewal of a membership either. Assuming they hope you forget so can take more money from you. Unable to cancel a direct debit. Just stuck in gym limbo as they are unhelpful. Shocking service so be careful. Gym itself is alright when you can get to it but better off not signing up because if your situation changes. They couldn’t give two s**** and have a can’t do and won’t do attitude. They beg for you to join but when you want to leave they couldn’t care less. Money grabbing gym!! Also have 2 referrals on my account which would mean £2 off each month. Suddenly that’s slipped off my account - owed money from this gym. Maybe I should start holding them ransom and sending in debt collectors. Update - I stopped paying for this gym about 3 months ago and was advised I would receive a refund for the funds I am owed in a months time. When chasing them I am advised to 'just pop in' - I now live 1 hour and a half drive away from this gym, I cannot just 'pop in' to collect money. If this was the other way around they would be sending threatening letters of debt collectors. AVOID AT ALL COSTS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Negative experience: I had been with this gym for years until I fractured my sacrum, they basically took a years payment did not give a damn about my fracture and all I got offered to me was two months free… Horrible service, appalling customer service and total greed!

Positive experience: Good location next to the station. Natural light on both sides of the room and simple digital lockers so no padlock needed. Some of the kit could do with a refurbish which I’m told is imminent. Friendly staff on first and second impression.

Fantastic experience: Great gym. Not huge but has all the equipment you'd expect. Always nice and clean. Fully air conditioned. Gym membership includes classes with great instructors. Helpful staff, I had an injury a while ago and had to pause my membership, this was super easy and no fuss. After I recovered they set me up with a PT to help me back into the gym while working round my injury.

Negative experience: Stay away from this gym at all costs! I had to undergo a stomach operation and froze my account for three months. To my dismay, they resumed taking payments without my consent. Despite my numerous attempts to cancel my membership after discovering the unauthorized charges, I received no response from the gym. When I finally stopped my direct debit, they relentlessly pursued me to set up a new one, showing zero regard for my situation. It’s been over six months since I last stepped foot in the gym due to my medical condition, yet they continue to prioritize profit over customer satisfaction. Even with a doctor’s note stating I can’t engage in physical activity, they insist on extracting two more months of membership fees from me. To add insult to injury, they sent me a cancellation link that doesn’t even work, wasting more of my time. This establishment’s abysmal customer service and profit-driven mentality make it clear that they care more about your money than your well-being. Save yourself the hassle and find a gym that actually values its clients.

Negative experience: Very unhappy with the customer service at this Gym. It seems I'm not the only one in recent weeks/months to have had similar issues with cancelling their gym membership. The poor communication skills from staff are appalling. It seems that they just pass issues around the office and have spoken to three different people about this issue with no way to resolve it. I found Charlie and Lucy particularly unhelpful in this matter. They offer a membership which you pay more monthly to cancel "anytime" however this is not the case. Very disappointed by the customer service as this is a gym I have been using for a while.

Fantastic experience: Fay is a fabulous PT and has changed my outlook to coming to the gym already! Fay has that rare ability to be able to explain and demonstrate technical movements in a way that's so easily understandable - she's also just a lovely ray of sunshine (although I may not always say that in the middle of a gruelling session!). Fay also runs some brilliant classes at the gym which I'd highly recommend! My confidence in using the equipment through the gym is so much higher thanks to Fay's guidance. The staff at AF are super friendly and welcoming. It's clean, tidy and got everything you need. I highly recommend both Fay and Anytime Fitness generally.

Fantastic experience: I actually look forward to my PT sessions with Fay. She ensures that my technique is always correct to avoid injuries, and that my goals are met. She is extremely reliable & punctual and always has an exercise routine planned. Would highly recommend.

Negative experience: Terrible customer service and a poor business model. I tried cancelling my membership online and kept getting a message that my account wasn’t recognised, forcing me to cancel over the phone with a member of staff (which apparently they are not supposed to do, but this was never mentioned). I was advised that one final payment would be taken from my account, but the following month payment was taken again. When I explained what happened I was told the member of staff who dealt with my enquiry had now left the business and there was no record of our conversation, so even though the manager ‘believed me’ he would be unable to process a refund. Both the manager and the regional manager were extremely unhelpful, refusing to accept any responsibility and claiming that because Anytime Fitness is a franchise there was nothing they could do. Having seen similar reviews this obviously isn’t the first time this has happened, so unlikely to change any time soon – clearly it suits them better to leave customers out of pocket for Anytime Fitness’ errors.

Negative experience: The machines room it’s super quiet and clean. Unfortunately the Pilates class gets too noisy and chatty and it’s almost impossible to relax. Also, I wish they had more space for Pilates and yoga classes as they get fully booked quite quickly.

Negative experience: Utterly Disappointed - Have been a member of the gym for over a year and really disappointed with how the company has chosen to deal with my partner choosing to end her membership. She called up well over a month ago and accepted that she would be billed for another month until the membership was completely cancelled. Another month has gone by and she's been charged yet again. Obviously mistakes happen so she contacted the manager to explain the situation, apparently the 'person we spoke to has left the company and there aren't any notes on her account noting that a cancellation request was made', so in layman's terms, due to the negligence of an anytime fitness member of staff, the customer has to cover the cost. Because Anytime fitness didn't bother to send an email confirming this, or put any notes on a customers account, the company are happy to let the customer pay for it! Just reading through other reviews it's also something that has happened to previous customers, so clearly an ongoing issue that hasn't been addressed by the company.

Negative experience: Good gym club, however, the management largely diminishes this. I spoke to your team back regarding my membership reactivation and they informed me I had to come into the branch to deactivate the fob. I called up your team a few weeks after and a colleague helped me over the phone to reactivate my fob via a temporary signature. I had been told I couldn’t use the gym as I needed to come in and sign a form, but I was unable to make it during your office hours. Why didn’t your team inform me of this before? As I’m paying and I couldn’t use the gym due to your team not activating my fob, therefore I should have credit for this. In addition to this, my partner was charged for her gym membership during lockdown when all gyms were required to be shut but other were offering discounts to their customers but AF twickenham did not. If you don’t have the date where I called your club regarding this, it states a lot about how Twickenham Anytime fitness is managed. Terrible management from Charlotte.

Positive experience: Twickenham Anytime fitness: I queried the cancellation terms on my one year membership contract recently as the contract states you can only cancel for three reasons, which are all restrictive. I am pleased to say the club manager replied saying that these clauses only apply to the initial sign on period, and after you have got past that point you can cancel for any reason. I've had problems with other gyms in the past who use these cancellation clauses to restrict people leaving, so be careful when you sign up to fitness clubs and check the small print.

Positive experience: EDITED IN RESPONSE TO THE FRANCHISEE'S REPLY: Fair enough, you might want to tell inductioners to point that out to new customers (along with the watering point location/s and perhaps how to correctly use the fidgety combination 'lock' devices on locker doors that do not always work). ORIGINAL REVIEW: The gym itself is not bad, having trained here for some months now. Equipment is clean, the space is pretty well kept, instructors are pleasant enough and the 24 hour option is definitely a plus. However: There is one point which, after some time observing how other gym goers use the facilities, needs to be made. This particular site has only two showers. These are located in separate rooms - logically to allow for male and female customers to use a shower simultaneously - and as such are locked when in use. The problem with this arrangement is thrown into stark relief when you wish to use either of these after a workout, and you are on a schedule. One example of this was wanting a short lunch workout after which I have to shower before returning to work. After waiting for over 20 minutes for either of the shower rooms to be vacated a bloke comes wandering out of one after doing, well, i don't know what in there for what would have beeen approaching half an hour. In trying to get around this, I moved a workout to the morning and then an evening timeslot. Only 50% difference there, as on one of these two occasions it meant a solid fifteen minute wait for a shower (after checking both were occupied first, using the toilet and then returning). To the folks handling management of the site: Please, please, please please PLEASE - Can you manufacture and place - conspicuously - a sign for each shower room with messaging to indicate to (and encourage shower users) that 10 minutes per person or as close thereto as is possible, is a very reasonable amount of time for anyone to be needing a shared shower facility for. It takes me no more than 8 minutes to enter the room, undress, shower (with a hair wash), dry off, redress and exit. I do not think it unfair to expect this of other users of a shared shower facility. Clearly some of the customers here do not share this view, and as none of those who i have witnessed making overly extensive use of the shower facilities has presented any form of physical limitation that would dictate a need to spend longer in the shower, I have to deduce that they are just taking their time. Which I'm afraid is not a luxury available to all of us in the city. Again, I would ask that you manufacture and place signage in each shower area to encourage fair usage - also to please mention this by way of your induction process as this is quite comprehensive - and to remind people that there are others who do also need access to said facilities in a timely fashion. It would really be appreciated.

Now can’t leave: manager won’t reply, anytime fitness HQ no contact number, being charged late fees even though did correct process to cancel. Anytime Fitness is a scam, not a professional business. I’m disgusted. *update: Regional manager got involved & resolved matter promptly. He was great. I understand he’s changed staff at this gym now so go check it out for yourself

Negative experience: Some members of staff are very good but management and owners are unhelpful. Equipment is out of date and constantly breaking, price is too high for what the membership offers especially considering it is a 12 month contract.

Negative experience: This gym is refusing to reimburse me for their covid closures so I have lost money. The manager is rude when you request to be refunded. I have reported them to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) who take action against scrupulous companies who are breaking the law during covid regulations. I suggest others who have lost money to this gym to do the same - it's very easy to do, just takes a few minutes online.

Negative experience: Beware! Anytime Fitness Twickenham is not reimbursing anyone for the closures during covid - you will not get your membership payment reimbursed even though you have not been able to use it. All the other Gyms around Twickenham are refunding customers but this one doesn’t - so you will lose your money. If you request it, the manager blatantly refuses, basically you get a rude and abrupt email saying ‘ We are not going to refund you’ - so basically don’t bother trying. What she doesn’t realise is that this is illegal (which is why all the other gyms are refunding customers) so she will have to face the legal ramifications that are coming her way. Some I know have had to go to the bank to try to get their money back. With numerous high quality gyms in the area (with a professional manager and decent customer service) everyone I know has dropped Anytime Fitness and will never return.

Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities post-lockdown, equipment is well spaced apart and it's not been too crowded. Make sure to check out the classes room as they've moved some of the equipment there to maximize on space

Negative experience: Had to change my review due to such a negative experience trying to cancel. The gym itself is great and staff are friendly. However, canceling has been a big headache. Firstly, the form didn’t work online as my details were not entered correctly, secondly I contacted them straight after, using their online contact form but never heard back, then I called and they corrected my date of birth but would not refund me from when I tried to cancel. I canceled my direct debit after noticing the form didn’t work ,therefore, Anytime said I owe them for the past month (moved areas so not even been able to use the gym) and just to add my partner got told on the phone whilst I was there by an employee that “you can cancel your direct debit and it will cancel your membership”. After going back and forth, I paid it and they emailed days later to ask if they can authorize a direct debit again to pay my outstanding balance. Just all really disappointing as I’ve had a gym refund me in a similar situation and just feels like anytime fitness just want to get the pennies from members instead of do what’s morally right. They also evidently have issues with their online systems and don’t link their offline calls to have updates for each persons account.

Fantastic experience: 1st visit to a gym since an unfortunate car vs. cycle incident, before all the pandemic nonsense started. A Watt bike is much safer. Gym is nicely spaced out with wipes and hand sanitizer everywhere. Very friendly staff and courteous other users, and lots of up to date kit. Large studio for classes, and big free weights area. Just what I needed.

Negative experience: TERRIBLE!!! Shocked to have received an arrears notice following 0 communication from Anytime Fitness during the lockdown period. Being charged during this time and penalty charges added also. Outrageous. Further, the management flat out lie in their communications and further threaten with penalties rather than trying to resolve the issue they have caused. BEWARE anyone entering into a contract with them. They act in breach of their own agreement, yet are not willing to discuss or resolve, or even escalate. Instead you are palmed off and sent links to pay for a service you haven't received. Clear tactics to lock you into contracts unlawfully. Just awful. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! UPDATE - as I had said above. Anytime fitness resort to lying rather than resolving problems. For anyone who questions the response below, please view the picture I have uploaded.
