Negative experience: Equipment left broken for a daft amount of time, months not weeks (let alone days). Only one of each equipment bar cardio so can be left unable to do certain exercises for the foreseeable future.

Fantastic experience: Nice activity for children

Negative experience: The gym facilities themselves are brilliant, the gym, the classes and the virtual spin studio. However the staff all bar Dan are terrible. Never any solution to wipe down the spin bikes after use after telling reception constantly. Cancelling gym classes but do not call you to tell you so you don't find out until you get there. Changing of personal details which resulted in not being able to open the app because my email has been changed, speaking to Harriet the Manager who needs training in dealing with complaints as it was one of the worst emails I have ever read. Asking to stop receiving marketing emails to be told that isnt an opition. The instructors there are brilliant and so friendly and approachable. This could be an outstanding gym but I think the staff let it down especially in the last 6 months.

Negative experience: Gym isn’t that bad, mainly because it isn’t too busy. Clean but no one puts their weights back. Their app and website aren’t the best. When trying to cancel my membership online, the website stated to get in touch with the gym to cancel. When I did this, I was told the membership was now cancelled, only to be charged an additional month for whatever reason.

Fantastic experience: Visited many times over the last few years. Once or twice for the gym but mainly for the soft play / climbing walls. Large carpark with tennis courts outside, easy found from th main road and well signposted. There's a small cafe / Costa in the entrance and clean tidy toilets/showers. At the time of writing the climbing wall is £10.20 for an hour session and seems really fun and there's a instruction video for safety and everyone is well taken care of. £5.50 for the soft play which seems suitable from babies to apprix 10 years old, not sure if there's a time limit but we didn't get kicked out at any time lots of variety for food and drinks as well as vending machines. There's a barcode system (given when paid ) to get in and out of the soft play area which is good in case a little one tried to make a run for it kind and friendly knowledgeable staff.

Negative experience: Tried booking for a children's party and quoted £195 for 10 children. When it came to pay they wanted £285. For an hours climb!! Ridiculous.

Negative experience: The food is massively overpriced for what you get. We ordered a sausage sandwich for £4 and got cheap sausages in half a sandwich of cheap white bread smothered in margarine. The soft play is lovely but don’t bother to eat!

Negative experience: Rang up asking for availability, said they would call back in half an hour and didn’t ring back.

Negative experience: If I could give zero stars I would. Didnt get a confirmation email regarding my booking , rang to say is it all booked. Person on the phone said yes it's all booked. Son turns up on his birthday, all excited for his party . Manager said there is no booking and nothing they can do about it. Showed payment which had been taken from my account. Didnt seem to care, no apology. Ruined my sons birthday...... Update 30 mins later they confirm they have found our booking, we drive backward with an upset birthday boy. Made us drive backwards and forwards and miss most of our time because they didn't check on there systems properly

Negative experience: had my childs 5th birthday party there. room was not ready wrong childs name on the door one bag of crisps in the shareing meal for 18 kids and so short staffed that the lady assigned to our room was having to split between two rooms i had to take over. huge dissapointment wrote to daniel the manager to discuss this in april still no answer

Fantastic experience: Like the classes and the gym, only falls down a bit on a couple of machines been broken for a little while now. Over all its good and keeps me reasonably fit.

Positive experience: Only use the wall climbing and soft play. The Cafe serves lovely Costa drinks. Only downside of getting a Costa there is you don't get beans or free drinks like you do at a normal Costa. The place is clean. Now the reason for only 3 stars, I am disabled and cannot get through the entrance door without help. It's ridiculous it's a lovely place but no disability door. The people on reception say just knock but I don't like to. Even an intercom would work but nothing. I feel very strongly about this so you are lucky to get a 3. Your other areas are great.

Positive experience: The coffee machine wasn't working, no air con. And the manager was very rude about the waste of food in the party room that I was attending, no smile when greeted to pay after waiting a few minutes while she put water in a machine, no very professional at all.

Fantastic experience: Great activity for the kids. Both ours loved climbing up the different walls. They both felt safe desending with the equipment. Area and facilities very clean. Just wished the staff could be slightly more happy and friendly, especially the female on the front desk.

Negative experience: DO NOT SIGN UP for a gym subscription! Catch out policies mean, if you don't cancel as soon as you start your plan, they will charge you £26 for the next month!! 30 day advance for cancellations is ridiculous, I am disgusted and feel cheated.

Fantastic experience: If yr not able to do classes, or a gym this place has toning machines, great if yr disabled or age related as this is not difficult to use and works you out or you can work with the machines and get to meet people as well... all staff are friendly and it has a cafe inside as well

Negative experience: I would like to preface the upcoming winge by saying that the staff were very helpful. The gym though is just not good enough. Treadmills facing a plain white wall, with only tvs showing broadcast news to stare at, is so demoralising that it killed all motivation to use the venue. However was responsible for the layout of equipment is a sadist. The fact that you are REQUIRIED to use their awful rated 2.8 on Google Play app that doesn't even let you book in is appalling.

Negative experience: I had liked this gym, and had moved over from other gyms that screw you out of your money, but unfortunately active nation have adopted the same sorts of catch you out polices. Had no end of trouble just trying to cancel my membership and they ended up trying to charge me £50 to leave. Not to mention their prices have gone up several times just in the last year for a very averagely equipped gym. Would not recommend.

Fantastic experience: Visited for my 4 grandchildren to have a session on the climbing wall. We had been before and as previously the session was efficiently overseen by the 2 staff and all the grandchildren had a great time. What made our visit even better was the young man on reception.What a lovely young man, very friendly, helpful and took an interest in all the children. Just wanted to say thankyou if it was you who was working on reception on Friday 30th at 11oclick.

Positive experience: It's a good facility with plenty to offer and the staff are very accomodating and quite helpful. However, a lot of the members are rather rude the way the force you off the machines so they can use them. I think more needs to be done about intimidation of female members by some male ones who seem to think they own the gym

Negative experience: I agree with a previous comment. The climbing is good, although time is wasted at the start showing a video about some activities that aren't even available at this location. They were also stopped 5 minutes before the end of the session. However, I would NOT recommend holding a party here. The food was terrible, the children ate in a bland, empty room and we were left completely unattended for some time with no idea how long it would take for food to arrive. I would recommend going somewhere else for a party as it did not represent value for money. The customer service following the party was also very poor. I gave staff the opportunity to discuss my concerns but no-one bothered to get back to me.

Positive experience: Really fresh and clean gym space. Fantastic kids softplay and really reasonably priced. Cafe is a little pricey but given cost of living crisis I would say its fair. I do love the fact they cater to kids and adults and there is a brilliant selection to suit everyone. Free parking is a bonus and a wonderful outside area too!

Positive experience: We went here for my Grandaughters birthday party it was her birthday present from her Grandparents. The welcome we got was lovely and the climbing was brilliant and the staff were very good making sure the children were all safe....... THE PARTY FOOD was DISGRACEFUL a few sandwiches, crisps dried up cucumber and carrot!! Two jugs of drink and the girl who served us looked so fed up. NO little cakes or sweet biscuits etc it was a CHILDRENS PARTY!! What we paid we expected more!! One DISGRUNTLED GRAMMA

Positive experience: Not a great gym with some of the machines being faulty and its way to hot in there at the moment and it makes it hard to workout when i'm sweating so much i can't push myself.

Fantastic experience: The soft play is quite small and can be really loud, but the theming is cool and there are some unusual features like the transparent "leap of faith" style climbing area. I wish they'd had climbing walls like these when I was growing up. So much fun. Probably most exciting for primary ages kids, but even grown ups can get involved. The steps are a good test of bravery! Really lovely staff, including one who recognised my son (who's Autistic and struggles with the noise etc) from previous sessions and went out of her way to make sure he was having a good time at his friend's birthday party.

Negative experience: Went to Birchwood Active Nation gym as had a referral and went there today to not only have the app not working so spoke to the receptionist and he clearly didnt know what he was doing as he thought it was all to do with my email account but yet I could log in on the website but not the app and with the guy on reception knowing that i had know way getting into the gym and he didnt even come and let me into the gym i just stood there waiting. When I finally got in to the gym i filled my water bottle up with the water fountain in the gym not only for it to be warm and taste stail. Air con didnt even seem to be on. You wasnt able to get a preworkout, protein shake and even a bottle water as they had none out and was told that food and drinks was only available when the cafe was open and when sitting at a table talking on the phone to my partner tables was dirty and not cleaned after it had been used. Just pure extremely poor service and experience.

Positive experience: Gym amazing ,toning suite amazing ,the only fault I found , which is quite a major one for me is that the showers are communal , no private shower cubicles like at Yarborough active nation ,this for is a huge no no and would put me off unfortunately joining here which is so sad as I really love the toning suite ,due to my mental and physical health,I have anxiety and would not be able to shower after exercise

Positive experience: Really looking forward to visiting the climbing wall. The two teenage girls looking after the children completely failed to engage with them. One trailing after the other discussing their boyfriends. Children left standing with their arms in the air. Just not good enough.

Fantastic experience: I have only used this Sports facility for taking the grandchildren climbing. It is marvellous for them to get this experience. Heloful staff to assist with safety gear and the climbing. The kids really seem to enjoy it. There is a fun soft play area too and a reasonably well stocked cafe.

Positive experience: Took an entire morning of calling to book my children in for the climbing wall. The phone lines were constantly engaged. When we arrived the next day, there was only one person Manning the desk and she was on the phone so we stood waiting a good few mins before someone else came out from the back. Service at the café was dreadfully slow. The guys overseeing the climbing wall were fairly attentive but at times were distracted by each other and were play fighting and generally engaging as though they weren't in a working environment. Soft play area is jam packed with fun things to play with so my children did have a very nice time. It's the staffing, queues and waiting times which need addressing.

Positive experience: We went with the special deal they had for the soft play at £1. It was good and we enjoyed it. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I was surprised however, that the normal price of the soft play is very similar to that of Fun Farm which is much bigger and offers more. So I would suggest reducing the price from £6 (as that is what it says on the website), to maybe £3 if you want to get more parents and kids to attend.

Fantastic experience: First time here today with my 4.5 yr old. Great value (we booked using the current £2.50 offer) & got an hour's soft play and an hour on the climbing walls. Daughter was slightly too small to use all the walls but had a great time anyway. Lovely clean cafe and fab kids meals for £3.50 and bacon/sausage bap plus medium Costa Coffee for £3.50 too. Fantastic place!!
