Fantastic experience: Re-reviewing as gym has been refurbished. Much better now! My only complaint is that they have set up the new free weight rack incorrectly. It should be all the heavier weights at the bottom, lower weights at the top. Lifting the 40+kg weights from the higher rack can be very difficult if you aren’t 6’2! Several times I have gone to get the 40/42s and it has been hard on my back. The gym is closing this weekend for an event so I’m hoping they fix it by then!

Negative experience: “Very disappointed! I walked an hour to get to this gym, only to find out it was closed for refurbishment. Google Maps and their website still show it as open 24 hours, which is really misleading. It would’ve been helpful if they updated their hours. I wasted so much time getting there and had to turn around with no workout. Poor communication and lack of consideration for members’ time.

Fantastic experience: Love the gym and it's in the process of getting renovated, which means soon I'll love it even more! My PT (Louise) is amazing, I started with her a few months ago. She makes me feel comfortable, she's encouraging and knows how to push me to my last limits without it feeling impossible. I actually look forward to our sessions and I feel great after them. Positive experience: The gym is good and the equipment well maintained however you never see any staff in there.

Majority of staff will be around between 9am-5pm Mon/Fri and limited hours on a weekend. Fantastic experience: Amazing gym, Sarah is so wonderful. Went today was so lovely. Lovely people lovely atmosphere. I was wearing my black ripped costume top. Negative experience: Been a member for years as it’s convenient but the gym itself isn’t great. Majority of the equipment is old and has been there for years, and it’s disappointing to see puregyms in prime locations with far better, new equipment. Most of the staff are fine, a couple of them are quite rude and unapproachable unfortunately. The gym itself is quite cliquey and can sometime get a negative vibe from the PT’s. Overall the gym is fine for the price but if you’re able to get to another gym then I’d do that.

Negative experience: I don’t know how many different ways I can express this to the pure gym staff whether it be by email, Twitter or their feedback text but Exchange Quay is too hot. The air con fails so many times and when doing a cardio workout, I can’t last anywhere near as long on the machine because it’s too hot. Even the fans built into the machines don’t touch the sides. I went in today and the weights room was nice and cold with a breeze but the main floor is still too warm.

Temperatures/air con in our gyms are automatically regulated by Smart machines, but if there is a persistent issue staff may be able to override it and can certainly report it to be checked by engineers. Fantastic experience: Not too busy and very clean
Positive experience: Big, but a little soulless. Free weights segregated from the rest of the gym. Changing rooms a decent walk from the gym. But equipment was good and readily available. Big space but just lacked atmosphere.

Negative experience: Dear influencers- can you stop using the kit to store/ set up your filming equipment ? Dont be cheap - buy a camera tripod or something. You realize other people need to use the gym equipment too? It’s not for filming your training sessions
Negative experience: I've been with this gym for a few weeks now and i've got no issue with it being busy, its a gym, its going to be! However i've booked onto a few classes now and not once has the trainer been on time for the class, however it still ends at the same time, and classes first thing on a morning if there is low numbers noone seems to turn up at all and you arent notified its going to be cancelled, not good, needs looking at!

Fantastic experience: It’s a clean modern gym with accessible douche and wc the man trap access doors are quite small so difficult to enter or exit with a bag. Huge selection of cardio machines and decent selection of free weights/machines. It relies heavily on tech savvy customers as there is no customer service desk per se only barcode scan entry. The app has a lot of features which are quite good. Price for membership is pretty cheap too about £17 at the time of this review.

Negative experience: Well, rejoined the gym after a 3 month Hiatus. Had major surgery and decided to do a gradual return as Im still healing from abdominal surgery . Today, my pin did not work despite buying the core (any gym) membership. I had to buzz staff. I did not get a friendly welcome even after I showed her my receipt. She saw that I selected urban quay (mistake) instead of exchange quay. The staff member said I was exchange quay and not urban exchange. I replied, it didn’t matter bc I paid for “any gym” membership. I put in my pin again and showed her it didn’t work. She then asked if I had the app. I explained it was still downloading . She then stated, “I’ll let you in today but I’d have to find her before I left if I was having issue with my pin. I just want to say thanks for treating me like a criminal. It would have been nice if I received a friendly welcome especially since it was not my error why my pin did not work. I also paid for my membership. The urban exchange is more expensive than the exchange quays membership. I’ve decided today that This gym will be a temporary membership only. As soon as I’m fully recovered from my surgery, I’ll find another gym to go to..

Negative experience: Every time I come here the emergency cord in the disabled bathroom is tied up to the support bar! If you're a disabled person or anyone ever in need of support or help you clearly can't trust to be safe in here

Fantastic experience: I wish they had a hip thrust machine, other than that no complaints. The staff is friendly and it’s always clean. Also, I think they have fixed the air con issue because the last few times I’ve been it’s been nice and cool, not as hot as before.

Negative experience: What an absolute hole. Changing room reeks of excrement, weights everywhere, not enough handles for all the cable machines, cold showers (it’s October and 9 degrees outside!). Coming to this gym makes me cancel my gym membership, I’d rather pay as you go somewhere else. Imagine if this was your local gym and this was how you started your day everyday. Shocking

We would like to assure you that we are reviewing feedback and will ensure this is addressed in club. We fully understand the importance of cleanliness and this will be dealt with. It is in the gym rules that members should return their own weights or risk suspension, but at peak times especially it can be hard to police this. Staff on site do everything they can while we also have CCTV monitoring the free weights and are looking for new ways to combat this. We have recently made slight changes to the shower temperatures, looking to control our energy usage, but also with a look to reduce our carbon footprint. Our showers are now set at a temperature of 33oC and have a flow rate of 5 litres per minute. These parameters are regularly monitored and we also have regular checks carried out on boilers and associated equipment to ensure the units are operating as they should be across all of our gyms. On occasion, we can get faults on our water system which is normal. When this happens, there is a process in place to ensure we arrange for our contractors to attend, investigate and resolve the faults and return the systems back to full working order within a timely manner. Negative experience: I couldn't agree more with the sentiments expressed in the previous review regarding the bike rack at our local gym. As a regular gym-goer and an advocate for sustainable transportation, I was excited to see that my local gym had a bike rack. However, my recent experience using this bike rack has left me thoroughly frustrated, especially as the rainy season is approaching. One of the most glaring issues is the complete lack of rain protection for the bike rack. Living in a region with unpredictable weather, it's astonishing that the gym hasn't invested in a simple shelter or covering for the bike rack. As we all know, rainy days can catch us off guard, and returning to a soaked bicycle after a strenuous workout is far from ideal. Furthermore, during peak gym hours, the bike rack is consistently full. This overcrowding issue has become a recurring problem, making it incredibly inconvenient for cyclists like myself who rely on biking as a means of transportation to and from the gym. It's frustrating to arrive at the gym, only to find that there is no available space to secure my bike safely. In order to enhance the overall experience for cyclists, the gym should seriously consider expanding its bike rack capacity. This would not only ensure that cyclists have a reliable place to park their bikes but also encourage more people to choose sustainable transportation options. In conclusion, while I appreciate the gym's efforts to accommodate cyclists, there are significant improvements that need to be made. Providing rain protection for the bike rack and addressing the issue of overcrowding during peak hours would go a long way in making the gym more cyclist-friendly. Until these improvements are made, I would advise fellow cyclists to explore alternative parking options or be prepared for the inconvenience of dealing with a less-than-ideal bike rack situation at this gym.
Fantastic experience: I did the Sunday 10:30am spin class with Jakub - loved the music! I much prefer dance/house ie upbeat songs I know when doing spin! Also loved the sets we did including the squats! Thank you for a fab class!

Positive experience: Good number of equipment, clean changing room. However for a sports venue, the bike parking area is notably inadequate compared to the ample car park. Enhancements could involve increasing the number of spaces and providing weather protection for the bikes.

Negative experience: No wifi, not enough equipment not air conditioner but prices keep going up. Update: there is no need to approach the manager or leave feedback in the suggestions box, everyone knows that air conditioner and wifi doesn’t work. I have also send and email a few months ago and recibe and received a response saying that Puregym was “working on it”

Fantastic experience: Moved to this PureGym nearly 12 months ago, and absolutely love it. Great location, great equipment, and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Notable mention to Ayman, Flavia and Jamie who gave me the confidence at attend classes, something I was previously put off doing. They’re incredible and I now do 3-4 classes a week. The PTs are no less than gifted: engaging with everyone - no matter the group size - ensuring your form is en point and you get the most out of each class. If you want an exciting, wild and thoroughly rewarding gym class: try Ayman’s spin. His choice of music, mix of challenging routines & tempo and his infectious positivity, high energy and enthusiasm make for such a fun time. I always leave exhausted and in a good mood. Negative experience: No air con 2 summers in a row, no timeline to repair, same old copy and paste to all members.. To make matters worse, all sanitising and tissue stations have now been removed...why now when there is no air con?! Now people are unable to clean their areas with all the sweat left because of the lack of air con. Has become unbearable and will be leaving at the end of my next payment cycle.

Negative experience: The gym is quite big and spacious. If it wasn’t for PT, I wouldn’t use this gym as a regular gym - the air con regularly breaks and takes month to fix, they don’t tend to replace weights or old equipment etc, it doesn’t look like they invest that much into improving the gym. Most recently, they’ve removed the sanitising stations probably which is very unhygienic and it should be a basic necessity at the gym.. I’m pretty sure Covid demonstrated how important it is to regularly sanitise and keep stations clean. Another poor ‘cost saving’ move which I’m sure will be explained away as moving back to pre-Covid. If you want a clean, hygienic and safe place to workout then this gym isn’t for you. The standard PureGym copy and paste response isn’t needed thank you. It doesn’t help anyone and it doesn’t get anything resolved.
Positive experience: I'd like to reiterate what all the other recent reviews are saying. I really like this gym, the equipment, size, atmosphere etc is all great. However the lack of aircon makes it really unbearable in the summer. I also remember it not working last year and a sign saying it would be fixed but that was a year ago. I see lots of people are making the same point in reviews and the stock response doesn't seem helpful. It's very obvious it's too hot in there, everyone is drenched in sweat. Please can it be fixed as I can't keep going if it's going to be that hot

Negative experience: There is plenty of equipment there but the AC is not coping with summer weather at all (and we didn't cross even 30 degrees outside this year yet), even with little people in the gym it feels like a sauna, and when it is full it is impossible to exercise there. Avoid in summer.

Negative experience: They need to fix or improve the gym Aircon. Opening a door in summer isn't going to fix the problem. I'm all for getting a sweat on for my workout but I sweat just being inside the gym. This is a problem... not a feature. Edit: you're automated response does not fill me with confidence. Based on the reviews regarding this the past 2 years on this gyms aircon issues, this you should already have been fixed. Can you do a better a job reviewing complaints please.

Positive experience: Everything’s good, except for AC and ventilation. The place feels suffocating and like a sauna now a days. Last year too the AC wasn’t functioning for a long time.

Positive experience: Overall, I really like this gym and have been a loyal member for a while. However, during my visit from 9 pm to 12 pm, I was disappointed by the unusually high temperature inside. It made the workout environment uncomfortable and challenging to exercise in. however, it used to be cool and comfortable at this time one week before.I kindly request the management to address this issue promptly, as it detracted from an otherwise positive gym experience. Positive experience: Used to be a good Gym, now has treadmills that don't increase in speeds and no air conditioning. Like a sauna at times. I'd avoid.

Positive experience: I have used this gym for a number of years. Very spacious gym with lots of equipment. Very friendly and professional staff but for the love of god please sort the air conditioning out. It's unbearable in the hot weather. UPDATE: It's not a matter of the management overriding the system. The management on site are well aware of the issue. I have been informed by the assistant manager that the whole company is behind schedule servicing the AC. This is a maintenance issue and urgently requires action from head office otherwise people will go elsewhere.

Positive experience: Decent gym, few broken bits of kit. could do with the staff & gym goers to return the kit and put it in the right spot. spent a lot of time looking for kit.

It is in the gym rules that members should return their own weights or risk suspension, but at peak times especially it can be hard to police this. Negative experience: Worst gym in Manchester that I’ve been to for harassment by men. Whilst the facilities are good, the “safe space” commitment lacks. Unfortunately this place is full of men who take pictures of you training, follow you into changing rooms daily to watch you get dressed and feel they can approach you whilst training. Complaints to gym staff multiple times weren’t acted on so I’ve cancelled. Find elsewhere to train, there are better gyms in Manchester.

Fantastic experience: Huge gym. Lots of equipment. Classes are great especially zumba Fridays 6 15 with Charlie. Very friendly staff.

Negative experience: I asked for refund and received irrelevant answer. Nobody is there to help me. I wonder how this business is still up with lack of professional customer service. Is there anybody who even care about helping me decently with a phone number or chat, I don’t like to wait too long for a small enquiry.
Negative experience: Had to switch gyms as this one is overcrowded, just not enough equipment for the amount of people who use the gym.

Fantastic experience: Great big gym. We go after work about 4pm and it's perfect time. Starts to get busy about 5:30pm. Lots of up to date equipment and lots of availability on machines and weights unlike other gyms. We switched to this gym from eccles as the size is so much bigger and better. Very welcoming.

Fantastic experience: Working in Manchester for a few weeks and decided to join pure gym, it was so so easy and extremely reasonable. The gym itself is huge and very clean. People also keep there distance which is good. If you're in the area go and have a look.

Fantastic experience: The gym itself was well fitted and had plenty of decent weights... The locker room however looked a wreck... Most of the lockers looked as though they had been forced open, and gave the impression that it was unwise to leave belongings there, so be aware that you will have to be careful what you leave in the lockers. Update - the lockers and locker room has been renovated and is in a much better state, recommend using the gym it's clean and consistently looked after well.

Negative experience: Disability parking places always full, with selfish non blue badge holders, the management said what an I supposed to do, I can’t stand outside, when I asked him, I know in other clubs, the management call the licence plate out, but that’s too much trouble for this mob.
Negative experience: I had to held a man yesterday with his wheelchair, because all the disabled parking spots, were taken up by arrogant selfish people, who don’t have a blue badge, and don’t have a care in the world, obviously the management don’t care, or they wouldn’t allow it
Negative experience: Disability parking places are always full, with cars without a blue badge, no one cares about people with disabilities
