Based in Cumbernauld town centre, Tryst Sports Centre caters for the health and fitness needs of the whole community, from working on your six pack

Please be advised that all swimming pools and the health suite at Tryst will be closed for essential maintenance from 12th December for an initial period of 2 weeks. We are scheduled to reopen on 27th December.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding as we work to improve our wet-side facilities for your future enjoyment.

This programme is subject to changes and the timetable is a guide only.  Please check ahead for specific availability, especially during holiday periods.

The health suite has now reopened following the refurbishment. A towel is required when sitting in the sauna cabin and a refundable pound coin is needed for lockers & session band.

Based in Cumbernauld town centre, Tryst Sports Centre caters for the health and fitness needs of the whole community, from working on your six pack in the state-of-the-art gym to perfecting your front crawl in the six-lane 25m pool. After your workout, wind down in the health suite which includes sauna and steam room.

The Tryst has a multi-function sports hall which can be hired to host a variety of sports, plus two squash courts, a spin-fit studio, a weights gym and a hi-tech fitness studio for adults.

Open seven days a week, the Tryst café offers a welcoming environment to relax and socialise with friends. Ask our team about catering for children’s parties.

Tryst Sports Centre: Opinions

Negative experience: Has cameras in changing rooms and have ant infestation in the back of the gym and saw a dead rat behind the stairs very bad gym equipment too

Fantastic experience: The tryst sports centre is a really nice facility with many different activities going on in it. Its also very modern looking since its renovation. Staff are always extremely helpful and are always very polite. The gym facilities are very well maintained and well kept always remaining clean and organised. This includes the dryside changing rooms which are always kept nice and clean. The showers at the dryside changing rooms are some of the rarer open plan showers The swimming pool is also very clean with staff cleaning ghem every day and checking the water is up to standard. There is also plenty of changing rooms so there is no worry if you feel as though you will be waiting. There are 3 seperate pools. 2 of which being cold and 1 heated The cafe in the tryst overlooks the pool which creates a open feel to the place There are also squash courts and many multi use facilities such as a big hall which can be used for football to badminton and even archery. There is also smaller yet just as useful rooms that are often used for martial arts and other activities I would highly reccomend this facility to anyone. The gym is not competitive and accepts anyone, the pool is the same with no stress or fitness standards so everyone is welcome. And finally the staff are always helpful and friendly

Fantastic experience: Great centre, well run with friendly Staff.

Martin Fitchie 1 year ago

Positive experience: Yes, it's a bit outdated as many Scottish council facilities are. However, it makes up for it with the usual dedication from NLC Leisure staff and the great range of classes on offer. Hats off to NLCs committment to making sport available to kids across all their facilities and through classes and holiday camps. The Tryst is good for swimming. There is a separate beginner pool and main training pool. It doesn't have slides etc (I think the pool in Coatbridge has this) but they run a big swimming lesson programme. We couldn't find lessons for out kids at our nearest pool in EDC so we joined NL. Both kids have lessons there and there are many great teachers and coaches, like Grant, who do a wonderful job with the kids. Despite its dated external appearance, the inside is well maintained and the cafe layout is clever. There are galleries that allow you to watch the kids in either pool while consuming something from cafe. Food from cafe is okay. Coffee and Hot Chocolate is good and there is a reasonable selection of sandwiches, cakes and snacks in the fridge. Swimming: Shoe covers available in the dispensers in the changing village but they often run out. The locker cubicles are a struggle for space with kids if you can't get one of the family ones in the first row. Parking is free and there is always spaces.

Positive experience: Started going for steam room , sauna , swimming , trying the fitness kick see how it goes .

Ordo Malleus 1 year ago

Positive experience: Good facilities, however, the changing rooms stink, and the people in charge of teaching kids how to swim are frankly terrible. They do not control the class well and seem like they would rather be anywhere else. One or two are fine the rest should be doing something else. I wouldn't recommend sacking them as I'm not that cruel but you can't train or force folk to care. Send them elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Great pool and facilities.

David Hammerton 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Inflatable course on the main pool today. Kids had a blast and then got a few hours at the end when it was quieter and had family fun in the middle pool.

David Electrical 1 year ago

Negative experience: What a shambles of a place so dirty gym is bogging needs a good clean suprised place still open manager is an old fat cow

Alex Sutherland 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Swimming pools are great here. 3 different sizes so guaranteed to find something that suits. Baby pool is lovely and warm. Middle pool is good for fun as they provide things like floats and balls for the kids to play with. Big pool is great for kids learning to swim. My son recently completed his first length in there Has onsite vending machines and a cafe with seated area that over looks the pools. Only negative I have are the showers are really poor. Very little pressure in them and go off within seconds. Very frustrating. Also has a gym and sauna. Staff are lovely so I'd definitely recommend it. Car parking is plentiful so no probs there.

Negative experience: Cashed up at front desk 25mins early so was unable to make a purchase. Opening time isn’t opening times so be careful.

John Dyet 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Having tried a few council gyms the Tryst is for me the best in NLC’s area. Enjoy the Cycle classes but gym is well equipped and health suite has been refurbished.

Fantastic experience: Lovely, spacious, well equipped gym

Positive experience: Can b bizzy with kids

Gerard Henderson 1 year ago

Negative experience: Been a member here for 10 years and have witnessed a a steady decline. Filthy, broken equipment and faulty air conditioning, therefore uncomfortably warm. Feel like I'm breathing hot air whilst working out. If I hadn't, stupidly, renewed my membership, I would certainly be having second thoughts now. Giving one star because not able to give zero.

David Mc Donald 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Just joined a couple of months ago. Wanted to use the gym. Got a membership for a year. You also get the use of the other facilities like the sauna and swimming witch is a great. Gym has all I need to try and get a bit fitter. Got to my goal couple of weeks ago in doing a 5k in under 30mins.

Fantastic experience: When you take into account it is council's sport center it's very good. Helpful staff, enough equipment, cheap and good working hours.

Pauline Martin 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Went for a swim. It's really quiet and relaxing

Kenny McGinty 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: For me, this is the best NL Leisure facility by far. Friendly helpful staff, with good gym equipment and spin bikes. Even after the Braodwood upgrades, I still think the Tryst is a better facility.

Kirsty Taylor 1 year ago

Positive experience: Great range of classes and instructors. Like Broadwood, could do with more regular cleaning of the exercise hall.

Jim Clark 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities, great cafe and brilliant staff

Crisps 1 year ago

Positive experience: Swimming Pool is good, and the price for a swim for a non-member at £4.85 is reasonable. My only gripe was the older receptionist woman yesterday morning (2 December 2023) was too busy yapping to a maintenance worker about personal stuff than to actually serve a waiting customer (me) waiting to get in.

Fantastic experience: Usto love going to this place staff at reception really nice and very helpful miss the swimming here as live very far away now

Fantastic experience: The gym is a nice and clean environment for all abilities with no judgement. The entrance is nice as it has been rennovated. There were some minor leaks in the main hall but still a good environment. The squash courts look good if you want to use them. The pool is good as there is a small, warm kiddy pool for toddlers and there is a medium sized pool with toys and floats. The large pool is very clean and is a good place for a swim. The cafe overlooking the pool has a good selection of food and its not too expensive also it is a nice clean cafe. The staff were patient and helpful if you needed anything and are happy to help. :) Overall it is a good place to go for leisure activities as it is a nice and clean facility

Stuart Rennie 2 years ago

Positive experience: Pleasantly warm pool with plenty of toys to amuse the children....and the grown-ups!

Liam C 2 years ago

Positive experience: Had a swim with my 4 year old daughter this morning - facilities are ok, though a little run down. It's also a bit of a nuisance that 3/4 of the toddler pool was allocated to swimming lessons, even though you pay full price for use of the whole pool, not a quarter, which with 3 - 4 other parents with kids was soon overcrowded.......

David Miller 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Nice big series of pools. Kids pool is massive and super warm, shallow enough for my 3(and a half) year old to stand in but deep enough to "swim" in. Middle pool perfect for my 6, 7 and 9 year old. My 6 year can just about stand in it but it's deep enough they can jump into. Loads of floaty stuff to play with you (they love playing titanic with the big floats!). Adult pool is long enough for good lengths and kid free (mostly) cause they play in the middle pool. Plenty of lockers, only thing is getting you stuff from locker to cubicle can be a big tricky if you have loads of kids and have to do several trips. Plenty of parking. Staff are friendly and helpful. It sometimes feels a bit cave like inside to me (Kilsyth is more open) but I'm a bit strange that way. No one else seems to think that so... might just be me!

Fantastic experience: Excellent swimming lessons for our 5 year old. Very professional.

Alex Kerr 2 years ago

Positive experience: Pool was a little cool for the kids. Sadly the cafe was poor, very little choice

Lynne 2 years ago

Positive experience: Very expensive for swimming as a family. Considering it's not very clean and we were told we only had 40 minutes to use the pool. We felt unwelcome, and we left at the time, but others in before us stayed, and the pool didn't close like the reception said? We had travelled quite a distance to use the pool so we weren't very impressed. On the plus side, the infant pool was warm.

Positive experience: As a regular attender at the Tryst I can recommend it. It's bright with a good range of equipment although some signs of wear & tear recently. It's usually clean and not too busy but seems popular. Charges are very reasonable.

Fantastic experience: I switched from the JD gym, gym is obviously a lot smaller, but still as good. Surprised at how busy the Tryst is. Staff always seem friendly, it's nice and clean and the shower and locker areas are always kept clean too! So convenient having the fob for entry, and the app for booking classes. Pool temperature is always kept at a sensible heat so it's not freezing as you go in.

Fantastic experience: A great place for a swim! There's a clean, warm changing area with a large number of hot showers, roomy lockers with a sensible wristband locking system. There are three pools, one 25m pool, a pool for improvers and one for small children and beginners.

Tess Carr 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: This place is by far better than the jd one near it, the staff are amazing. You are not tied into a contract and your membership includes swimming etc. I do several classes now enjoying the work outs. Lockers situated downstairs just need your fob. Can top up your water at the gym entrance. Place is always clean, staff always have a smile on their face and the instructors are brilliant too

John Devine 5 years ago

Positive experience: I was at the cyclefit class, which was a good workout. Only thing since the covid 19 restriction the lack of ventilation in the room made for a uncomfortable experience. Think something has to be done, maybe just open the door to let some air in would work.

Ian McHardy 5 years ago

Positive experience: Good equipment. Good option of sporting facilities. Prices are average. Internal decor is fairly new ; outside of the building is bit old and drab but inside much fresher. Prices average. Free parking at least in evenings (not sure about during the day).
