Fantastic experience: 24hrs, staff are helpful. Rarely have to wait for equiptment. 2 large floors. Nice layout, loads of space and seaviews..
Negative experience: I was a member here for about 4 months. At first, I was quite content with this gym. There’s a good amount of machines to use, and spread over two floors. However, it soon became an uncomfortable gym to use. Despite being advertised as air conditioned, it is not. It often felt airless in there. The gym floors were hot and honestly it stank like a sweaty teenage boys locker room. The smell hit you as you entered the front door. Really unpleasant to workout in. It’s also very busy, no matter what time I would go, I struggled to get a bench to use. I found myself not wanting to go workout at all, due to the environment and not knowing if I’d even be able to access the equipment I needed for my session. The last month of my membership I didn’t even go once. Left for another quieter gym.

Fantastic experience: A great gym. Lovely staff.
Negative experience: The issue with this gym have been described many here. Stuffy, dirty and cramped etc The thing that bothers me the most, I have now been to several of The Gym gym's. The ones in Brighton are terrible even by their own standards and to really rub salt on the wound they charge me more for the use..... Is it a built up city issue....well there are 3 in Manchester that are great, the one in Hove is ok but again the Eastbourne one is truly great! Eastbourne gym is the reason why I have not switched. So what does Eastbourne do better as a stand out... Classes Clean Cooler Friendliness Equipment These are my top 5. Now this is just my opinion as a disabled girl that has to use a gym daily. Things I like are Floor mats Lockers outside of the changing room 24 hours open LGBTQAI + friendly Easy accessible disabled toilets ⭐⭐

Positive experience: No airconditioning so is really hot. No classes and if there are there is no room for it. Quit clean but not always.

Negative experience: Absolutely terrible experience at this gym. It's like walking into a sauna with weights. They don't bother turning on the AC—just one big fan lazily blowing in one corner, barely covering anything. The bottom floor? Forget it—no fan, no AC, nothing. It’s unbearable. They brag about being "green," but it's just an excuse for not providing basic amenities. No cleaning supplies anywhere. How is this even acceptable? I can't believe they think this is okay. Their staff don’t care at all—they think the temperature should match whatever works for them while they sit comfortably in their office, completely forgetting this is a place for workouts where people need a cooler environment, especially in the summer. I once asked them for cleaning spray, and they just told me, "There's one around, find it." They couldn’t even bother to help. When I finally found it, I realised there was no paper to wipe with, so I just gave up—and this is what everyone else does too. Machines are left sweaty and disgusting because no one can be bothered to clean them. This gym is a joke. If you value your health and comfort, stay far away. I’ll never be back. I've already switched to PureGym, and the difference is night and day. PureGym keeps their AC running all the time and always has cleaning stuff readily available. I could actually work out there without feeling like I'm going to pass out from the heat. If any of the managers at this gym actually value feedback, I challenge you to visit your own gym, then visit PureGym, and be honest with yourself about which gym you'd choose. Both gyms charge roughly the same, so the choice would be easy for anyone.

Negative experience: I have never been in a gym hot like this, no flash air, no good temperature, no good network and wifi, no blue roll for cleaning. If you like to work out with a hot temperature and with other people sweat, that would be a great choice.

Robust cleaning regimes are still in place and we continue to pump in 100% fresh air ventilation, day and night, we clean on a daily basis, including cleaning of all equipment and gym facilities with anti-viral products. We encourage members to bring in a sweat towel to use after they have used a piece of equipment. Having cleaning stations has resulted in a significant increase in the amount of paper waster and we are focussed on minimising our waste as part of our commitment to Net-Zero. We are proud to be the very first Carbon Neutral Gym Chain in the UK. This is just a part of our efforts, for example we are also taking steps to reduce the amount of single use plastics in our vending machines. Positive experience: Decent space. Annoying 3 days is the same price as a month but that's what you get for a 24hour visit!

Negative experience: Gym is built into an actual boiler room but they wont turn the A/C up. Even the PT's who are in good shape and aren't exercising are melting in there. I understand its a budget gym but its bordering on unusable and we've not hit peak summer.

Positive experience: Good price, good location & good range of equipment. However, when summer months start coming around it’s starts to get very hot (downstairs especially), with little to no air con. Wifi maybe works 20% of the time, which is a problem when you also get 0 mobile service anywhere in the gym. It’s quite a problem for me personally as I’m always on call for work.

Fantastic experience: I surveyed quite a few gyms in Brighton before settling for Gym Group Madeira Drive. Two years later, I am still a very happy member #heretostay It is clean and bright. Properly spaced with high ceilings, the gym is well-ventilated. I don’t like walking into a gym that reeks of sweat. This one doesn't! It is amply kitted for strength training across two floors. For cardio, equipment is spaciously set and the view from the elliptical, rowers, stairclimbers is spiffing -- SEAVIEW! Classes are on par with others in the Gym Group. If you want a good workout, join Tipu's or Sara's classes :-) As with all other gyms, the odd new member need to be occasionally gently reminded of simple etiquettes like putting equipment back and equipment-sharing but, in general — the members here are .

Fantastic experience: The gym Madeira drive is a fabulous gym and i would very happily recommend it to all the people of brighton and its surrounding area . I have been a member since the very first opening day . One of the first members . Quite simply it’s very affordable.. open whenever you need it as it’s 24hours and the staff are experienced , friendly and approachable. On the very rare occasions that a piece of equipment I wish to use is in use they have been able to suggest an alternative exercise or machine for me . I say rare as I train in the day and in the many years I’ve been at the gym this has happened less than the fingers of one hand . Sometimes a cleaner of the opposite sex may have to attend to the changing area . I have witnessed this on just two occasions in the last 10 years . On both occasions they knocked and gave adequate warnings . I can only speak for myself and of coarse that is the danger of reviewing anything , but I had no problem what so ever with this. So all in all as someone who has been using gyms in Brighton since the mid 1990’s I’d give the gym Madeira Drive 5 starzs… It’s without doubt the best I’ve used . Cleaner , airier and in a fantastic location.
Fantastic experience: Sara is particularly friendly and helpful. However most of the stuff with few exceptions is. It's a low-key gym with mixed public wht is fine. Finally there's a WiFi in underground level, since no phone reception. That's OK too, probably.

Positive experience: It doesn’t feel safe as the staff there are usually either personal trainers or cleaners so won’t come to help you if you are hurt as they are busy (have seen this happen not to myself but to others). The lack of monitoring exacerbates things - people walk around without masks, don’t bother to clean their equipment, etc.. Very image-oriented atmosphere. Most people are there to build a certain physique rather than just exercise. Everyone is young and some people turn up in makeup. Lots of students. It’s a playground for men (positive reviews are all from men) downstairs in the weights area. It feels a bit of a waste of time having a 24H membership as unless you go at 7AM or between 10AM-3:00PM (which you can’t if you have a job) it’s an irritating experience (EXTREMELY BUSY). Because the gym feels so unsupervised, I wouldn’t go after 8PM as a woman. There is a lot of equipment for weightlifting and cardio but not for callisthenics etc.. Good location and decent temperature. WiFi often does not work and there is no phone signal downstairs, so download your music before you go.

Negative experience: Gym is now updated but for some reason, they have reduced the total number of heavily in demand plate machines. In a gym that can get overcrowded to the point it’s a waste of time going. Makes absolutely zero sense. Such a shame to see this once acceptable gym struggle under incomprehensible management. —- It used to be a really good gym, but now there’s a constantly leaking roof, equipment that has been broken for months and no repair, and it is increasingly overcrowded without enough space to work out. Sadly, the gym options are very poor in Brighton (I don’t understand why) and you’re basically stuck with quite poor facilities wherever you look. It’s sad that this once acceptable gym is now going downhill too.

Negative experience: Has become the Worst gym experience in Brighton. Leaking roofs, broken equipment for months and generally dirty place. Will be switching over to PureGym, it’ll be worth the longer walk!

Fantastic experience: I love this gym. First started going in 2012 when I moved to Brighton for the first time. Rejoined 3 years ago and it’s still as friendly, open and safe as it’s ever been. The location is great…walking along the seafront after a session is a great way to wind down or get your spirits up before heading in. The staff are amazing. So welcoming and always ready to help. Super approachable too. I’ve been training with Sara over the last year (the assistant manager) and she’s been a total game changer for me in terms of my body image and confidence. The kit is in good condition and clearly looked after and the environment is clean including the changing rooms. If you’re looking for a reasonably priced gym this is a great place.

Fantastic experience: Come here for the cheapest gym, especially if you can get the student promo. Expect to take turns during peak hours 5:30pm - 8pm weekdays. Get sore get swole.

Positive experience: Good gym, well equipped with two floors (first is machines/treadmills, second is weights, more.resistance machines), clean, people respected the facilities (attended between 5-7AM) but they didn't have Olympic weights, so couldn't do deadlifts. Fantastic experience: A cut price gym with everything you can ask for from a high end on The team at The Gym group Brighton are not just good at their job they also go that extra mile to make you feel welcome . The managers is a delight and it shows in the team of smiling helpful. trainers . But what makes it stand out is just how everyone who goes there want to work out and get the best results . Even the PTS instead of looking at their phones (as I have seen many times ) are fully committed to their clients . Everything is really clean and it is a joy to go there when I am in town . Well done The Gym Group and prime example of why your concept works your managers is superb .

Negative experience: Equipment covers the basics and convenient for the price - don't expect any gym etiquette. I'm a fan of the gym group for the price and ease of access, I use several of their outlets. I have to say, Madeira Drive is the worst for disrespectful members. Weights are never ever re-racked - let alone in the correct place. This is something that the staff not only fail to discourage, they actually do it themselves when training clients, putting assorted plates over others. This is extremely disrespectful to users who might struggle moving several 25kg plates just to get to the 5kg plate that they need. People use the racks/benches etc and just leave loaded barbells in them. Again, staff stand by and just watch this. I appreciate that this is a commercial gym and not everyone is an experienced user but you'd think just to spare themselves having to rerack the weights all the time that the staff would put up signs/ call people out on it. I've always been used to this being a bannable offence in a gym if reoccurring, and rightly so. I suspect management fear enforcing rules like this makes for an intimidating atmosphere and will put off casual users when actually other outlets of the same gym group demonstrate that it creates a friendlier, tidier and safer environment to exercise in...

Positive experience: After our visit in The Gym There is some mistakes which is needed to improve: 1.Shower pressure each cabines because using shower the pressure it's not enough. 2.Dranage must be checked each shower cabenes because it's stinks a lot. 3.after shower use fans must to be switched off because its to could. 4.Would be great if weight check up would be available with out any extra cost like before use to be,because our membership is all ready to expensive.

Positive experience: We visited Brighton for a few days and wanted to do a day pass gym session this gym was offering 3 days for free sessions which was excellent. I would definitely recommend this gym it was so friendly and welcoming and staff were very helpful. Lots of equipment over 2 levels and super clean. I would definitely join if I lived here . @the gym Brighton.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff and great gym equipment, the personal trainer Joe Budden is very a knowledgable and friendly trainer and I highly recommend him if your'e thinking of gettimg a personal trainer.

Negative experience: Wow. What an awful, soulless place. I popped in here today to check it out and immediately just felt the total lack of atmosphere. Strip lights, white walls, dirt on the walls, ceilings and machines. Ugh. In the changing rooms, there's no hairdryer and whilst I could change the temperature of the shower (a big draw given at my gym I can't) there's no little shelf to put my stuff and the shower points straight down so I was having to lean against the wall to get clean. I saw one staff member who showed me the changing room and then disappeared, never to be seen again. Oh and the keypad entry machines are just like going into prison. Yay! Well done The Gym.

Positive experience: Pre-corona there were plentiful mats and benches along side the major machines you'd expect in an established gym. The free weights area downstairs is also quite spacious considering the amount of room available. Up stairs there's plenty of cardio options and pulley machines and a smaller free weights area with some benches. Due to the pandemic, some of the packed Equipment has been removed as per social distancing. Only real issue is how busy this gym can get, which is a testament to it's convenience and quality relative to price.

Fantastic experience: Great gym good music and excellent atmosphere. Only problem is its busy at the evening. Its opened 24 hours which is great you can workout early in the morning where usually the gym is empty around 3am to 6am
