Liscombe Health Club: Opinions
Positive experience: Currently, the price point for membership is £70 per month. While this might seem reasonable for some, the quality of service provided does not match the cost. Here are some key issues: · Sauna: The sauna door has been broken for over three weeks, despite numerous complaints from members. This results in the temperature consistently remaining below 80 degrees, which significantly reduces its effectiveness. · Morning Sauna Use: If you’re planning to use the sauna in the morning between 6:15 and midday, don’t bother. It takes hours to properly heat up, making it essentially unusable during those times. · Men’s Showers: The drainage system in the men’s showers is poorly maintained. When it gets busy, water quickly floods the floor showers, making it inconvenient and unhygienic. · Steam Room: The steam room is a major letdown. It’s far from being a proper steam room and instead feels like an unpleasant, foul-smelling water bath. The lack of sufficient steam and persistent odor make it far from a relaxing experience. Overall, for £70 a month, I would expect much more attention to detail and better maintenance. Unfortunately, this facility falls short in providing an acceptable standard for its members. The staff, however, are great and polite. Edit: Thank you for your response. However, I would appreciate it if less time was spent talking to me and more time was dedicated to fixing the issues raised. The members deserve practical improvements over discussions.

Fantastic experience: I spend at least four hours per week here. Loads of instruments of torture to entertain people. And the coffee is pretty good too.

Fantastic experience: We discovered the health club had a soft play so immediately needed to visit, it is intimate enough to feel comfortable to sit back with a coffee and watch but also be able to quickly get involved if needs be. I am always on the hunt for these type of places as my little one loves soft play. My only regret is that I wish I found it sooner as it’s a short drive for me and the set up is perfect. We met some other Mum’s & their children so we all plan to use Liscombe soft play as a meeting spot. Definitely recommend ☺️

Fantastic experience: I’ve had 5 pt sessions with Lizzie and I honestly couldn’t thank her enough! She is amazing & so so easy to get on with ! I really recommend her. My confidence started at 0, I had never step foot in a gym before and now I feel so comfortable going xx

Fantastic experience: What a gem ! I have been a member for a few years and I am delighted to see the considerable investment that is being made by the new owners. The newly refurbished gym area is excellent, the new machines and weights are spot on ! The gym itself is light and airy which makes such a difference. In addition :- The team at the gym are genuinely friendly and helpful ( @darren and team well done ). Great café area - my favourite cup of coffee in a thirty mile radius. Also, I must mention my great PT Rob - he has been a fabulous mentor. I can definitely recommend this gym !

Positive experience: Great gym equipment within a newly refurbished gym. Great mainly local clientelle too. However it’s not perfect. For example there wasn’t a male/female sign outside the poolside changing rooms for many months. Imagine that! The soap dispensers in the gents showers have been broken for over a month and there isn’t always hot water for showers. Overall a nice gym but lacks the attention to detail you would expect at the price point. Appreciate management response below and increased star rating to three.

Fantastic experience: I rejoined recently, I enjoy the swim and spa areas and staff are friendly. Swimming lessons are good for kids and cafe is great. A lovely local, small and friendly place to use. You can’t have swim only memberships anymore but I may be inspired to use the new gym layout which looks great.

Fantastic experience: I joined just over 2 weeks ago with partner , since lost my job so emailed to cancel, I as told cancel anytime. Now being told they will take next months payment even though I have no money to pay ,explained why too . I signed no agreement to agree to this

Negative experience: Just given monthes notice after 12 yrs at club not happy there anymore Could not freeze membership when gym out if use don't like the new layout

Fantastic experience: Nice little soft play area for the kiddies. Clean and tidy. Staff friendly and helpful. We had 30 of us, which is definitely the maximum number of people that can fit. Good couple of hours fun for a birthday party.

Negative experience: Avoid like this gym like the plague! Absolutely awful morales from the new owners. Holding back information to keep as much membership money as possible. Better gyms out there for less.

Negative experience: Closing the gym for 6 weeks and conveniently not giving members enough notice in order to cancel their memberships in time, refusing to freeze memberships and continuing to charge full fees using the excuse there is a smaller cheaper and less accessible gym to use in a completely different location as the reason why they’re treating their members so badly- not a great start to a new ownership at all. You’ve lost our family as customers now for all services!
Positive experience: Convenient in terms of location however limited equipment and is often quite busy. Staff are nice and the cafe area is also a nice touch. A lot of money for average kit. I can't comment on the classes however they seem well attended. I find the swimming pool is often in use for child classes and requires an increased subscription for classes and swimming
Fantastic experience: As a family, we all absolutely love this soft play and could not recommend it more! The play equipment is high quality, modern and is always kept incredibly clean. The bright and engaging sensory areas are full of activities which are inviting, well thought out and suited to both my baby and my toddler so both children are completely entertained throughout our visits! The space has a comfortable and homely feel, with staff who are incredibly welcoming and friendly There is a little cafe which has a great menu of drinks and snacks and the seating area for adults overlooks the soft play area nicely. I can actually relax and enjoy a hot drink while the children play safely and happily with me in their sights! Overall, a truly lovely experience bringing my littlies to your soft play, thank you! We will definitely be coming back again soon!

Fantastic experience: Lovely location tucked away from all the hustle and bustle of modern day live. My eldest child has done amazingly well at swim school and is now progressing towards stage 4. We also have 3yr old twins and they are loving the thoughtfully created and interactive classes that Liscombe have created. We make good use of the Little Liscombe (softplay) for the 3 yr olds and they love playing there, its a great size for them to explore while you enjoy a coffee.
Fantastic experience: My two sons have thoroughly enjoyed their swimming lessons at Liscombe, they have grown in confidence and ability. We also regularly enjoy the soft play, it’s a perfect size for parents to enjoy a coffee whilst their children are enjoying the soft play as you can see where they are at all times. The staff are friendly and the facilities are clean. Good coffee and juices too!

Fantastic experience: Fantastic swim classes for babies, excellent changing facilities and very helpful staff / instructors. We have also taken our little one to the soft play (the Barn) a few times which he absolutely loved.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant swimming lesson at the swim academy today, my daughter is 4 and her confidence has developed so much since joining liscombe. Lessons are very creative and help children learn core skills in a fun way. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: We have taken our daughter swimming at Liscombe since she was 3 months old and 1 year later she still absolutely loves her lessons! The staff are all super friendly and personable. Each week has a fun theme with varied props and songs. We really look forward to our swimming lesson and would recommend to anyone.

Fantastic experience: Great little club - lots of classes and lovely swimming pool. The only suggestion would be to install a swimming costume dryer. Highly recommend to anyone thinking of joining!

Positive experience: Good gym as they have most equipment and they are kept in good condition and looked after, very nice staff. Only issue is the opening times.
Negative experience: Friendly staff but expecting people to sign up for yearly contracts and not be able to try the gym (even paying) is ridiculous. Another company that limited something during covid that's remained needlessly after the pandemic.

Fantastic experience: I have just completed an 8 week challenge with the team at Liscombe. The advice and support has been great. With an added bonus of getting to know more people at the gym! I am now regularly using the gym and started PT with Sandra. I lost weight and reduced my body fat% and my BMI so feel very pleased. Negative experience: Liscombe used to be good but the gym recently (march 2023) is very busy in the evenings and mens changing room floors are always soaking wet, this is not helped by the frequently overflowing shower area next to changing room. There is also a massive hole in the mens toilet ceiling letting in freezing cold air. £600 for gym is double the price of Leighton town centre gym with far less machines. Staff are slaves to 'policy' even the manager, especially when it benefits them. Signed up elsewhere, shame.

Fantastic experience: My daughter was very excited about getting back to swimming lessons today but I know we were both a little apprehensive with the new world. However, after seeing all the measures in the place on Instagram I felt confident it was safe to return and I was right. The gym has been well orgsnised from the moment you walk in. Hand sanitisizer on entry, show covers and clear arrows to lead us to the pool. Sarah met us at pool side where she showed us to our our own waiting space pool side. A clear one way system made dropping off and leaving easy. All the teachers/staff wore visors throughout too. Lessons are staggered meaning plenty of room to towel dry pool side and pop a onsie on to travel home. My daughter loved her lesson and was very pleased to be back. Well done Liscombe you have done all you can to make us safe

Fantastic experience: Despite the Uncertainty of COVID19 and the reopening of the gyms, I was VERY impressed with the level of attention to details Liscombe park have done to make you feel safe.. What they have done to the studio is quality, spaces have been taped out, Hand sanitizer, too EVERY memeber having their own sanitizer spray bottle which you collect at reception and leave when you no longer need it. The gym space has been well planned out using every space possible and keeping it safe. Not once did I feel unsure. Very happy to be back. Keep safe

Fantastic experience: Brilliant gym and facilities, but just an overall lovely place to go. Love the entrance driving past the horses to the friendly welcome in reception. My daughter is a member of the swim club there too which she always wakes up excited to go to. At the timings I use the gym I never have to wait to use any of the equipment so can get a really good work out done too, with maybe even a bit of spare time for the steam room and jacuzzi! Five stars!

Negative experience: Disapointing service - Such a lovely facilities, pool, saunas location etc,but can't pay just for one swimming session if want use just the pool.. otherwise need pay £12.50?? :-O Why there is not an option for adult swim without being a member of the gym?
Fantastic experience: Has everything you could want in a gym. Nice changing rooms, jacuzzi, sauna, steam and the gym itself has all the equipment you could need. Added bonus is that the gym remains fairly quiet even at peak times meaning I rarely have to wait for equipment which has always been a problem at other gyms in the past. I don't use the studio but timetable is pretty large. Staff are always friendly and fitness instructors actually speak to you, which trust me, is rare in most gyms I have been a member at.

Negative experience: really deasapointed , the changing rooms are disgustings , the hair drayer is broken for ages and is not working , the swimming classes for stage 1 are usless ,waisting time and money , as they are like 6 in class and no time for individual and the water is really cold , my son is getting cold and bored all the time, the only think what he learn there was spalshing , i give them a notice and ask for my money back , as my son doesn't want to go anymore , they are so unprofesional and they just want to charge for as long they can do (as you sign a contract with them ) !
Negative experience: Dreadful changing area for swimming classes. I take my grandson and I think it is unsafe and unhygienic.Also it was filthy
Negative experience: One star because no star is not an option on this rating system. The worst gym I have ever attended. Mediocre in all aspects and appalling customer service. It seems the only remaining customers are those under 5 learning to swim and pensioners. Ènergie is a disappointment through and through.
Positive experience: Great swimming tuition, my son came on leaps and bounds after struggling elsewhere. Changing rooms basic but do the job
Negative experience: Avoid the direct debit option, been overcharged for 2 years, they promised a refund but still no luck after months of asking for it. They will also block you on social media just to avoid the consequences.
Positive experience: Refurb is now done and it's great! Best yoga class I've ever had, pool is nice and warm and spa is perfect. Beautiful surroundings too
Negative experience: Mould had been growing in the showers for months! Was repeatedly told that it will be refurbished soon, months later and still not refurbishment.
