PureGym Glasgow Charing Cross: Opinions
Negative experience: Please Read this Everyone! I’m new to Glasgow and I was looking for gyms in the neighborhood and the closest one was Puregym Charing cross. I went one day planning to take a tour before I pay for any given membership “like how it’s normally done in any normal gym in this world”; when I found out that I have to have a QR code to enter the mysterious gym! Fine, I went online and -regrettably- decided to pay for 7 days membership at £18.99. Wish I knew what I’m about to encounter. App was user-friendly, I can’t deny that. I arrived the next day at around 13:00 p.m, entered using my QR code. I got lost, especially with the gym staffless/no reception policy. I had to ask one member where I can find the lockers. Went upstairs, where I saw the cardio machines on both left and right sides and the changing room in between. Went in, and the smell of urine hit me right away. The lockers and everything inside looked outdated! Hair dryers are broken! I couldn’t figure how to use the locker until one member told me to buy the padlock first from the venting machine downstairs! I went down looking for the venting machine, and found a corner office with two employees inside. Had to ask one of them for assistance. She was so welcoming and friendly. Went upstairs again with the padlock but wasted half an hour on trying to figure it out! Went down again, confused and annoyed, the staff member had to replace the padlock because it’s broken!!!!! All for £6 !!!!! Why?? 2025 is around the corner, update and upgrade and be smart! The machines are outdated too, the downstairs area smells nasty and half of the machines cannot be used due to a water leak! One member told me it’s been like this for over two weeks now! Had I known about all the above, I wouldn’t pay a pence for this gym!
Negative experience: Very bad for repair now two weeks still they doesn’t fixe the gym at least they have to move the machine to another side people can use but they not doing that really bad

Regular maintenance checks are undertaken, and any issues identified are escalated to engineers straight away. Sometimes, there may be a small wait whilst engineers attend to fix any issues, but we endeavour to resolve these as soon as possible. Negative experience: Very disappointed few times a year the hairdryer getting Broking and takes few months to fixed

Positive experience: It's a good gym, I'm coming here for the last 1 month ,however the their sports water never works .it's always without any taste ,idk why, but they never refill the flavours in machine

Negative experience: Не знаю, происходит ли это круглосуточно или это мне так везёт, но уже примерно месяц непрерывно грохочет музыка, диджей орёт и постоянно пищит какая-то микроволновка настолько громко,что заглушает любой звук у меня в наушниках. С учётом криво сваренного и плохо установленного на кривых полах оборудования получается убойный микс для занятий.

Negative experience: Cleanliness in locker room / showers is an issue
Positive experience: The location is good, equipment can be better, machine doesn't seem to be maintained, a good amount of them feels broken or loose. People there are mainly a mix, many goes to train and many other to talk on the phone and take pictures which can be annoying (this happens almost in every visit so it's not a one time off or person)

Staff do undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that our equipment is fixed as soon as possible, if any should be broken. We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. Positive experience: Good deals on memberships of you look out for them. No punching bag or soft mats so I can't practice wrestling or kickboxing like I did at my old gym but for a commercial gym it's pretty good and the staff are friendly

Negative experience: I really appreciate the facilities at Pure Gym, but I'm quite disappointed with the consistently not-warm-enough water in the showers. It used to be warmer, and I understand that electricity prices have gone up, but I would be willing to pay a bit more for a comfortable, hot shower
Hi Gabriel, thanks for taking the time to leave this rating, but I'm sorry to see it's one star. We have recently made slight changes to the shower temperature area, looking at improving energy efficiency to control our energy usage, but also with a look to reduce our carbon footprint. Our showers are now set at a temperature of 33oC and have a flow rate of 5 litres per minute. These parameters are regularly monitored and we also have regular checks carried out on boilers and associated equipment to ensure the units are operating as they should be across all of our gyms. On occasion, we can get faults on our water system which is normal. When this happens, there is a process in place to ensure we arrange for our contractors to attend, investigate and resolve the faults and return the systems back to full working order within a timely manner. We appreciate your feedback on this, and hope you're able to make the most of the gym and reach your personal fitness goals. Thanks, PureGym
Positive experience: Decent gym, good equipment but always very messy. Takes 15 minutes to plan workout and find plates and working clips

It is in the gym rules that members should return their own weights or risk suspension, but at peak times especially it can be hard to police this. Positive experience: Great gym with great service. Had a spin on their spinning bikes and a quick run on a treadmill. I would only recommend that they install aircons and fans throughout the gym and especially in the spinning class where it could get very sweaty.

Positive experience: It has been my gym for over two years and I've really felt it like my second home. Although I had to stop going because of the following reasons: - The weightlifting area is simply not enough for all the people that attend the gym. Several times I've had to look for alternatives in my programm to be able to finish my workout, which is a shame and far from ideal. At least another two squat racks are needed imo, and another two bench press at least too (there is just one...), plus more calibrated plates. - I'm not sure why or what happened, but the gym started to be extremely crowded from January onwards, and sadly with people that have no respect for other members. Machines/racks are left unracked on a regular basis, barbells/dumbbells all over the place, dirty equipment, good luck finding small plates (1.25/2.5)... - The women's changing room used to be spotless but from a few months onwards they were pretty dirty. I'm a quite relaxed person with these things but at some point it started to bother me. - There is one class placed in the downstairs studio on some afternoons (Tuesdays I believe?) that was extremely loud, to the point where It was impossible to talk to my partner while that class was taking place as the music was too loud and we couldn't hear each other. Plus, on top of that, there is the comercial music. I'm neurodivergent and that loud music from the class was really triggering all my anxiety and making me want to leave my workout right at the second. It just makes the gym not a very inclusive place. Again, this is something that started to happen a few months ago. Apart from all these bad points, I must say that the staff is absolutely LOVELY and helpful and they really do their best (special mention to Lee and Shaun who always have a big smile and have such great vibes!), the location is great and I strongly miss my gym. I met great people there and really felt like home, but it was very hard to finish my training sessions due to all the childish members and the lack of weightlifting equipment.

Fantastic experience: Nice gym layout. The venue is in an open location however the parking can be a bit hit and miss due to how busy it is. Good range of equipments here. Not very busy at the time I visited which was peak time.

Positive experience: Extremely convenient and a good dedicated pull up bar which is rare for commercial gyms. Although I'm almost certain the free weights section is on a very slight slope which results in almost all lifts feeling slightly off.

Negative experience: Machines are dated, and lockers are always either broken or have locks on them with people keeping them and not even in the gym. When you pause your membership you're charged a joining fee again.

When you go to join on the gyms web page, you need to click day passes rather than monthly and this will show you all options available. Fantastic experience: Gym offers lots of affordable student membership options, great equipment, free classes and 24/7 opening hours. The classes are my favourite part of the membership because they are fun and are a good way of getting into a fitness routine. For example, I was the only person who turned up to a ‘Burn It’ class today and considered heading home. However, Matthew Bradley gave me a fantastic 1on 1 pt session, making staying for the class more than worth my while!

Fantastic experience: As PureGyms go this is one of the better ones! Staff are alway really friendly, they have a good selection of classes and equipment. It's kept clean and is never too busy. One time I left my headphones after going one night and they were still there in the morning to my surprise which says a lot about this particular gym!

Positive experience: Only one flat bench. The leg extension machine is blocked by people using the water fountain and just next to that is the hamstring curl machine which has you kicking people that are trying to do pull downs on the cables about 2 feet away. Layout needs looked at. Avoiding peak times is the only way you wont end up standing about queuing.

Negative experience: Leg machine is out of order more than a week ."hydration Station" is disgusting and most of flavors taste awful I tried 3 of them . Why don't you take it away?

Negative experience: Staff seem to love telling you to wear a mask when they dont themselves, showers are terrible , dirty changing rooms and the cleaning stations are constantly short of paper and spray . Ive been a member for 2 years and not once has a member of staff spoke to me about training etc . I,'ll be moving to jd soon .

Negative experience: Showers hot but no pressure. Hairdryer works then due to fluff in filter. It overheats and cuts out. The stench from one or two who were working out was overpowering to the point you could see people moving. A delicate point which management require to find a way to deal with. As they were using the machines and free weights.

Negative experience: Always busy, nowhere near enough machines/equipment, small and cramped weights area

We’re afraid it's true our gyms simply are very popular and so can become busy especially at peak times, but this does fluctuate throughout the day and from day to day. You can check the current number of members in the gym using our live tracker through your Members Area. We always aim to provide a broad spread of kit to cater to a range of fitness needs and meet demand as it changes through the day, getting the balance right between weights and cardio, but if you have any specific suggestions please approach the Gym Manager or leave a note in the feedback box, which is regularly reviewed. Negative experience: Assistant manager CHRIS MCDONALD SEEMS to tell everyone that he is the "owner" of charing cross pure gym. Staff will approach upon leaving a treadmill station and tell you to put your mask on while you are still catching your breath after a 25 minute run. Who are they to approach anyone especially if it is about a mask but will get right in your personal space. I can understand the rules about entering and leaving the gym with a mask but then being provoked by overweight personal trainers unnecessarily to then have them run to get there assistant manager Chris who clearly is not interested in the other side to a story telling me that he owns the gym and that i have to leave for explaining i had just come off a treadmill and that i did in fact enter the gym with a mask. Pure gym is just a joke of a gym group now with unprofessional lying, provocative staff. Atleast get some personal trainers who dont need a personal trainer themselves.

Negative experience: Needs more cleaning

Staff do regular cleaning checks in the gym and we have dedicated cleaning teams who come each night to carry out and comply with internal and external audits. Of course, during peak times it can be difficult for us to compete all cleaning routines, however as soon as it is possible our staff will complete all procedures and checks. If you have concerns with the cleanliness in your gym we can check the cleaning rotas and ensure all procedures are being followed. Negative experience: Left this gym after 1 visit. Terrible gym and poor cleanliness. Asked for my joining fee and months membership to be refunded. Not only did they not do this but they have been taking money out of my account for the past 3 months now even though I have contacted them to cancel on 4 occasions. Last month I cancelled my direct debit only for pure gym to start a new direct debit without my permission.

Negative experience: During normal times, my review would be higher. My lower review right now is because they aren't taking COVID seriously enough. They say they are cleaning thoroughly and are making masks mandatory, but I haven't seen anyone cleaning and several members do not wear masks when walking around the gym. I know members don't need to wear them when working out, but when walking around, masks are supposed to be worn. No one on the staff is enforcing this policy, and a lot of the PTs either aren't wearing masks, or are wearing them incorrectly. Now, as a result of this, I simply asked for a partial refund of my membership and that I would return once COVID was over. The terms and conditions state that a refund isn't possible and normally I wouldn't expect anything else, but I was hoping that because I do not want to continue due to false advertising of safe and hygienic exercise spaces during a pandemic, they would make an exception. They refused. Hence, once again, the poor review. Because of this and because of how they are treating their clients, I will be taking my business to a more customer-focused gym going forward and would recommend others do the same.
Fantastic experience: Very large gym so in these covid times there's plenty of room to distance from others. Plenty of equipment.

Fantastic experience: Great value, excellent range of equipment both in cardio and weights. Bright and busy without being cramped or crowded
Positive experience: The reason for the 3 stars is that I go very late at night when there's only me and 2 others in but every locker is taken so need to carry my bag about. Although I'll give an extra star for the cleaners. The guys that work at nice are so nice and do a cracking job. Other than that it is a good gym really need to do something about the lockers though as it's really off putting.

Positive experience: Too small for how busy the gym is. It is ALWAYS busy. Try to work out before work and cannot get on the sections I need to before having to leave for work. Really frustrating.

Positive experience: My friend & I have been coming here once or twice a week for a few years now. We find the location handy & plenty of equipment. The only slight negative remark is that after the renovation, we feel there is actually less spaces to work out!

Fantastic experience: Best gym in Glasgow
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym, trainers are all wonderful people. Special shutout to Rachael and Jordan, both incredibly helpful and supportive. Gym is great with lots of room and options, people that go are typically sound too. Only suggestion would be some new barbells! There are a couple good ones but the majority of them have lost all knurling and are overused making them potentially dangerous to use.

Negative experience: The 1 star is because I’m mainly in this gym for the weightlifting facilities which I find are lacking. There’s not enough free weights squat rack and bench rack even during the low peak time which means that I have to wait to get a free spot if any.

Positive experience: Great gym, location, and environment. Have been loyal to puregym brand since its launch on bathstreet many year ago. The standard of clearness in the male changing rooms have been quite disappointing. There has been a body brush In one of the shower stalls for 3 days running which makes me think, are the cleaning contractors even cleaning them regularly or they glance at them and if they look fine, mark it as washed for thier paper work. Comon puregym I know ur standards are higher than this! Get this sorted to maintain the brill environment I have been used to
