PureGym Edinburgh Fort Kinnaird

Positive experience: Gym is pretty good, however peak times are crazy and the "boys" tend to hog machines, especially the cable machines. I didn't know this was a social club. It can sometimes smell like sweaty feet, men's changing rooms are a nightmare, hygiene seems to be a mere suggestion. My suggestion would be time limits on machines and staff enforcing those limits. Gym could be cleaner, best to go late in the evenings and super early in order to avoid crowds.

Positive experience: Classes are pretty good although the same class can be very different depending on instructors (who are all friendly and helpful). I dropped two stars because it is chronically dirty - as a regular user the showers are not cleaned everyday and there is dirt and grime on the floor which is unpleasant during classes when doing different exercises. Sorry please sort out the dirt and grime!

Fantastic experience: Great gym, I was working with Charlotte as my PT for the week that I’m staying in Edinburgh, and it has been all sorts of lovely! Had some amazing workouts, and I’m overall very content with my experience here.

Fantastic experience: Great gym to head to when on holiday. Clean, good vibes & great equipment despite lacking some squat machines. We got the 7 day pass & it was super easy, scanned the QR code, paid & we were emailed our access code immediately. We will be back each time we come back to the UK.

Negative experience: This pure gym is in desperate need of an upgrade the weight training section downstairs dark the toilets are Forever dirty they need to completely upgrade this Pure Gym and the air conditioning has been hot and broken for over 9 months

Fantastic experience: Excellent gym!!! Modern equipment and all fitness levels are treated respectfully.

Positive experience: It's a cheap, 24 hour gym, so if you go in to it looking for that you should be easy enough to please. The mix of machines upstairs feels a little unbalanced, and the layout is a bit random but again it works.

Negative experience: Joined here on Thursday 26th, travelled with all documents required on Friday (medical stuff) upon my show around I highlighted that the place felt dirty. I was advised that they have a lot of issues with the cleaners and that members are expected to clean up after themselves as well as the cleaners. Fair enough. Arrived today, machines were dirty, floors in gym dirty, bins full, shower cubicals and changing rooms, lockers etc all dirty. What’s the excuse today? Have had all weekend to clean, yet it looks the same or worse than it was on Friday. I understand this isn’t a premium gym, however the very least a member should expect is it to be of a decent standard of cleanliness. I won’t be returning. As I said was advised that they always have issues with cleaning staff and that I should clean as I go. Which I’m happy to do, (machines etc) but I’m not happy to change/shower in a very dirty changing room or the actual gym it’s self. Everything looked dirty and that it needed a really good deep clean. I also appreciate its 24/7 gym, but I still don’t think there’s any excuse for it to be kept so unclean.

Positive experience: When it's quiet it's a decent gym but unfortunately it's too small for the amount of people who use it.

Positive experience: Good place to workout with so many other motivated people, I am not excited that their are 4 stair climber machine while only 2 of them are in use. It’s my favourite but I left yesterday without using it because people are.

Fantastic experience: I like gym here but ,always is full

Positive experience: The range of equipment is excellent and if you can come in before peak times you can get a great weights or cardio workout with little waiting around. One issue with the gym though now is some equipment really needs some TLC. Stairmasters in particular are looking quite beaten up. Also some more plate weights would go far, as sometimes you are looking for a minute or two for a specific plate.

Fantastic experience: I've struggled with the gym for years and didn't know where to start but I met one of the pure gym personal trainers Jase in October and since then he has helped me progress massively. He has helped build my confidence and knowledge and has really supported me over the past few months. I couldn't imagine not being part of the gym now.

Negative experience: If 0 stars was a things iy would be this. No one by this membership they stop you from cancelling and keep taking money out your account even after you've followed there online 'cancelling' process three separate times

Negative experience: Trying to serve far too many people for the size of the gym. Getting to the equipment is not a big problem, you might just need to shuffle your routine a bit or wait a bit. The changing rooms are absolutely tiny however. You more often than not have to queue up to get to your locker whilst people are getting changed. It's combined with the bathroom too, so while you wait you're never more than a few meters away from the open plan bathroom and people doing their business in it.

Negative experience: Ok equipment but usually have to wait to get on it. Was rather disappointed as the whole place was filthy. Chewing gum left in the drinking station and toilets were disgusting.

Positive experience: Gym is really well equipped, so long as you come outside of peak times you shouldn't be waiting on any equipment. The staff are not the most accessible or responsive, in person or through messaging which is a real let down.

Negative experience: Initially was so nervous yet excited to join this gym and sign up with a personal trainer. I desperately wanted to lose weight (approx 2 stone) and gain strength both physically and mentally. I started to work with a personal trainer and felt inspired. The gym app, the food tracking app, the weigh ins.I truly felt this was for me. And I put in everything that was asked. But. Then slowly but surely things changed. My PT spent more time talking. Absolutely brilliant guy, but I'm paying to lose weight??? He then applied for assistant manager position and my weigh ins stopped, the chat increased, and I was left feeling I was wasting my money. I lost 8lbs. I have since received a most insincere reply from " Owner of Pure Gym" and a WhatsApp from my trainer offering a monthly True Coach not sure what. As an apology. Seriously?? If you are a professional, then be a professional. If not, then don't try.

Fantastic experience: go here twice a week friendly staff and customers don't feel out place. Nice normal gym.

Positive experience: It’s a PureGym - it has everything you need for a good workout. The layout of this PureGym is particularly nice! The only thing preventing me giving it 5 stars is that the cleanliness could be improved in the changing area & staff could smile a little more. A friendly smile always, always adds value to any visit!

Positive experience: I mostly use the weights section. It has all the equipment needed. Clean enough and in good enough condition to use. I have no real complaints here. Only problem is the gym can get very busy normally at peak hours (no surprise). I normally opt for going early or late night when it is quiet. The app is usually a decent indicator of how busy it is.

Fantastic experience: Tbh, Pure Gym, the Gym, in fact most modern gyms of this genre are all the same. More recently I've noticed that there are a greater diversity of people attending fitness centres and I don't of that's to do with Covid & mental health, personal desire to be healthier, vanity or maybe even just just because we can. I gave PureGym Fort Kinnaird 5* because was able to make this observation in an environment that previously may have been ilted towards a certain 'demographic'. PureGym Fort Kinnaird is a welcoming, safe environment to exercise, be social, (if you want to) and feel safe. Well done folks.

Fantastic experience: Good place a lot of equipment, tend to be crowded, but as it is 24/7 you can choose some time when there is less people

Positive experience: Been using this gym recently since it’s close by and 24 hour. Good equipment, seems well laid out. Have to get in really late if you want to get a quiet session though.

Positive experience: Staff are great, at peak times you really struggle to get on certain equipment and it's not always convenient to turn up at 0200 when it's empty. My one real complaint is the promotion of unlimited drinks. The water is unlimited, however, the juice isn't. You get a fixed volume every 20 minutes - that is NOT unlimited. Total pain if you turn up for a 45 minute class with less than 20 minutes to it starting, invariably you run out of juice before the end of the class. Don't advertise it as unlimited, it isn't.

Positive experience: Does the job - staff always friendly. I wish they could make it bigger so that it wasn’t so crowded sometimes but I just tend to avoid the busy periods. Not always cleaning stuff available to wipe down surfaces.

Positive experience: Sooo many people not cleaning equipment after themselves, PLEASE can staff do anything to try improve this?? The cleaning station in the weights area has been moved to a dark hidden corner, this really is a disensentive to wipe down weights after use, please please PLEASE can you move this back to the middle of the weight area?? I contracted Covid in this gym a month ago and really do not want to catch it again.

Fantastic experience: Nice gym with lots of equipment, please add decline bench press and one more deadlift platform. Some equipment requires refreshing. Highly recommended!

Positive experience: The gym itself is fine, it has everything you need but during peak times it is incredibly busy and during COVID it does feel like too many people. There are also barely any staff on the gym floor and those that there are don't enforce rules such as one person per box and ensuring people only work out in a box. I'm pregnant and have had many people train with their friend where one person is in their box and the other is not in a box and is right beside me - this doesn't feel safe at all. Also issues with the cleaning supplies not being fully stocked - often stations have run out of paper towels or spray.

Fantastic experience: I can find all the needed stuff there, plenty of space and they have air condition which is cool when it's too warm

Fantastic experience: It's a well equipped gym. Lots of different machines. I like that they have an app, so you can check how many people are in there, when it is likely to be very busy. The touchless entry is great and have a lot of cleaning stations provided. The changing rooms are always clean and tidy.

Fantastic experience: Only been a few times now, it does get very busy (as you would expect). The machines are clearly well maintained and cleaned. Even the staff are there and friendly and helpful.

Negative experience: I am hoping one of your staff will contract me regarding this issue very soon. Pure gym has canceled my account without contacting me and I no longer have access to the facility. I waited and knocked on the doors within your facility for 10 minutes and no staff came out nor were they around to help me with this issue.They are trying to get me to pay another joining fee to reactivate my account which I will not be doing. I am still being charged on my card so I am not sure what the issue is on your end. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Negative experience: I have been a member at this gym since it opened and have not many problems until now. Ever since Covid-19 you must wear a mask to change station within the gym which I don't mind, there has been the odd occasion where you forget to put it on and I don't mind being reminded by the staff. However, Michael Robinson a member of staff has been constantly targeting me, as whenever I am in the gym even if I forget to put the mask on for even a second he will tell me off. In total he has told me of four times even though there are numerous of other members not putting on their masks. I believe its to do with my skin colour as I tend to be the only brown member in the gym during early mornings and seem to get told off every time as others walk with no consequences.

Fantastic experience: I have been using this gym the week it opened and im hooked. My fitness level was poor, it has been a couple of years since I had excercised. I thought my age ( over 50) would limit me also the my knee problems This was not the case, I started with classes, I now go four times a week. All the instructors are friendly and encouraging. I started going to PT Struan Nevin's classes, they are enjoyable and challenging. I started one to one sessions with him as I wanted to start using free weights and did not have the confidence and found it a little intimidating. After 4 months I have lost weight and changing body shape. I am more confident now to use free weights on my own. Struan has encouraged me to look at my nutrition, designed a workout programme for me to achieve my goals. One to one sessions are fun and challenging. If you have Struan as a PT you will not be disappoint and will see results. I would recommend everyone to give his sessions a try and see what you can achieve.

Fantastic experience: I have been attending this gym for a couple of months now and it's fantastic. The gym is always very clean and it has an impressive array of equipment. And the fact that it is 24 hours means that for someone like me who works shifts it's just perfect. It's very encouraging to see people of all walks of Life hitting the gym. Using the app to see how many people are in the gym is so valuable, it is much better when it's quieter.
