Parkway Hotel & Spa: Opinions
Fantastic experience: This was a fabulous evening. It is a lovely hotel with a really nice atmosphere. We had booked a table for our annual ladies slap up meal for Xmas. The restaurant was lovely, not overcrowded or disrupted by noise from a Xmas party in another room. The food was outstanding, and the service was very good. All the staff were polite, helpful and efficient. We could not find fault with anything and had a wonderful evening. Thank you, everyone
Fantastic experience: Stayed there for a Xmas party lovely breakfast
Fantastic experience: We love Parkway and come each year for our anniversary. They never disappoint! The staff were excellent this year. A few mistakes were made but every single member of staff dealt with them brilliantly and went above and beyond what I would have expected. They were all lovely and very friendly. We can't wait to come back next year big thanks to all the Parkway team.
Positive experience: Great dance venue, just a pity that I had to walk 60 yards to get a real ale!
Negative experience: We booked for a party of 6 to attend this hotel for the spa and meal break. After numerous incidents of confusion over the menu available to us as the hotel tried changing the menu as we had booked, we were then informed that we could have steak instead of the cooked dinner they had tried switching us to. When asked which steaks we would each like, and our orders being taken, we were then informed that there were on limited steaks left so couldn't all have the same steaks. Following the meal, within 1 to 3 hours, all 6 in the party experienced symptoms of food poisoning, including 2 who were sick, all experiencing diahorea and stomach cramps. Hospitality at this hotel non existent. We went there to celebrate a birthday, to instead experience their of gift sickness and 3 days on 2 of the party are still in and had to take time off work. The manager took absolutely no responsibility when informed. Never had we experienced such a blasé attitude for such an establishment. BEWARE ALL!!!

Negative experience: HIGHLY DO NO NOT RECOMMEND Arrived here for the Champagne package a group of 6 people. Further to arrival we requested to see the menu for our dinner that was part of the package, this was not what was advertised when we booked it and instead, we were presented with an alternative to “Christmas menu”. When we questioned staff about the menu, they responded very flippant and unprofessionally attitude, stating “ ah they changed it a few days ago” but didn’t remember to tell us. As the party of 6 of us didn’t want Christmas dinners we requested if there was anything else we could have and they offered the last of the steaks they got. That evening they took our order for the steaks and we all ordered fillet steaks. The server then come over and told us there’s no fillets left and we can only have sirloin or rump. We ordered 6 sirloins, then only to have the server tell us they don’t have 6 sirloins and only 3 of each left as they cleared out for the Christmas menu. After a couple of hours passing, 4 of us fell ill with sickness and diarrhoea. This ruined the rest of the evening. Further on that night all 6 had diarrhoea which was most clear to symptoms of food poisoning, all 6 had near to no sleep due to the sickness and diarrhoea. The next morning we had paid for breakfast to be apart of our package and was not able to eat any of that breakfast or wanted to even eat the food after the food poisoning we had been given from the evening before. When we asked for bottle water, we were initially told that this would incur additional charges to our bill, no attempt by hotel staff to help any of us with our symptoms, causing further insult and distressed to an already ruined break. When asking for water from the servers at the bar I had nothing but attitude for wanting bottled water not tap as we were all in separate room and couldn’t carry 6 open glasses of water. From the customer service at the reception, to waiters and bar staff was absolutely appalling And the manager who couldn’t care less that 6 of his guests have had non stop sickness and diarrhoea that completely ruined their spa break for a special birthday celebration. Do not recommend visiting here. No customer service or empathy. Very disappointing!!
Fantastic experience: Went for a wedding eve party. All staff I engaged with were friendly and polite. Food supplied for eve buffet was delicious and catered to all needs. Clean and tidy on entry with a lovely welcoming open fire.
Fantastic experience: During my stay at the Parkway Hotel and Spa, I had the pleasure of staying in the Conwy Suite. The hotel itself was stunning, with elegant decor and a serene atmosphere that made for a relaxing experience. The food was excellent, with a variety of delicious options that exceeded my expectations. The customer service was also outstanding—staff members were attentive and accommodating, which I greatly appreciated after a frustrating start. Unfortunately, my room wasn’t ready when I arrived, leading me to alter my plans and travel to Cardiff before returning late. This hiccup was disappointing, especially as I had booked spa facilities to enjoy during my stay. However, the staff’s professionalism, the excellent dining, and the overall beauty of the hotel helped mitigate this inconvenience. While the initial issue was frustrating, the quality of service, comfort of the suite, and great food made up for it. I would recommend the Parkway Hotel for its charm and excellent hospitality.
Fantastic experience: Had afternoon tea I would highly recommend it
Fantastic experience: I have been attending the Parkway Lounge Bar for many years now. James and Waide should be praised. It is so wonderful to see exceptional customer service. To feel like a treasured guest every time is a rarity. Thank you for making me feel special and appreciated, and I value your commitment to your trade.
Negative experience: The hotel im sure is great but the track getting to it is unlit and poorly signposted both to get in and out
Fantastic experience: I recently booked a Thursday Twilight Spa experience to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was amazing, lovely staff, clean facilities, wonderful massage and the 3 course meal was outstanding. The whole experience was really excellent from start to finish.
Positive experience: We visited as non-residents and all the staff were very helpful. They found a suitable table to accommodate my Dad's wheelchair and opened difficult doors when needed. The food was quite nice and well served. I would have given 5* but we were extremely unhappy with the facilities for disabled visitors. There were no tables in the lunchtime venue that would accommodate a wheelchair - they were all very low tables. The staff were excellent in helping but we did end up separated from all the other diners in the residents' lounge as that was the only place with suitable tables. It was very peaceful but we did feel somewhat cut off especially as my Dad only leaves the house a couple of times a week and enjoys being around other people. However, our main complaint is the lack of disabled toilets. When I enquired at reception as to where the disabled toilet was, we were told the only one was a cubicle within the ladies toilets. Using this felt incredibly uncomfortable and demeaning for a male wheelchair user. I had to accompany my Dad as the doors were too heavy to open, the sinks were too high to wash his hands properly and it all felt very degrading. I can't imagine how dreadful a young l, independent disabled male would have felt having to do the same. An hotel as large as The Parkway really should be doing better than this.
Positive experience: Hotel was much nicer than it looks online. Friendly helpful staff and good food. Breakfast is quite basic.
Fantastic experience: Attended a Iolo Williams event, a really lovely and informative evening, a great host - thank you for organising!
Positive experience: The hotel is a bit dated mostly ladies dinning.
Fantastic experience: My husband and i went for an overnight stay. Stayed in the garden room which was all i expected, it was really lovely. All the staff were excellent edpecially Josh, who on arrival was warm and welcoming. The food was lovely and the grounds are beautiful. Used the leisure facilities which were very nice and relaxing. I would definatly recommend this hotel. I have already booked my next stay. Well done to all the staff you made our stay lovely.
Fantastic experience: Really great place to stay, the rooms were lovely and staff were awesome, nothing was ever too much trouble for them. Would definitely stay again, If you don't drive it's a little far out from train station, but easy enough to get uber
Fantastic experience: A great awards dinner at the Parkway last night. Food was great. It was fab they won an award too.
Positive experience: I've been to a wedding reception on 14th Saturday evening....great atmosphere, service Unfortunately I lost my earring on the dance floor.. Rang the hotel on Sunday, I was told it was found and handed to the reception but nobody knew where it was kept I was promised to have a call back to know when I could pick it up. I went there on Monday, by 2 o'clock, the receptionist girl , very rude , told me nobody knew where the earring is... I told her so "you had it and lost it?" She just shrugged her shoulders...she couldn't care where the earring is... I think if she's not happy with her job she shouldn't be there I d like to have my earring back cause it was a present from my late mum and dad I'm still waiting for a call saying the earring is there and I can pick it up
Positive experience: Stayed overnight for a meeting.Bedroom was good, service great, buffet for lunch was excellent. I'd recommend for meetings.
Fantastic experience: We came for the Thursday twilight package which included full use of the spa facilities a 25 minute treatment and a 3 course meal. Every member of staff we met from start to finish was polite, helpful and professional beyond what you normally get now. The pool area was lovely and cosy and very clean and not over crowded. The treatment was fantastic we had a back, shoulder and neck massage. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. We were very impressed and will be recommending and visiting in the future, thank you!
Fantastic experience: Only there for the day at a conference, lovely location, friendly staff. Lots of parking and well maintained grounds
Fantastic experience: Lovely place. We made full use of pool, sauna, jacuzzi and solarium.
Fantastic experience: Went for a combined birthday/baby shower afternoon tea. Food was delicious and very well presented. Private room was tastefully decorated and large enough for the number who attended. Service was a little slower than expected but that didn't spoil the afternoon one bit. Would definitely recommend for location and value for money.
Fantastic experience: Lovelyplace for afternoon tea with friends. Service was a little slow but it was very busy.
Negative experience: Unfortunately this hotel is extremely tired, worn and in great need of an overhaul. The room furniture is old, the beds are uncomfortable, the bath is narrow and we couldn’t even see the TV because the table it was on was so low. The spa facilities are tired, loungers were dirty and the water offered in the jug was not fit for consumption. However the staff were very friendly and professional and the breakfast and meals are really good. Sad to say to is our last visit!
Negative experience: Cmon this places rooms are still the same as 10 plus years ago , room wardrobe handle broke , bathroom stunk and room still in 80s £65 room max certainly not £120 a night ripping people off .
Positive experience: All areas too . But excellent food and service.
Positive experience: Went for wedding reception, didn't stay so can't comment on that. Lovely evening
Positive experience: Spent two nights here on a business trip. The rooms were great and the staff were helpful and friendly, even putting the tv on so 7 big lads could watch the Chase! Thanks also to Angela for keeping us fed and watered.
Positive experience: Very nice hotel with a spacious coffee shop attached to it. Nice and spacious and customer service is spot on. Will be back again.
Positive experience: Good location for access to Cardiff and surrounding countryside. Rooms were comfortable. Plenty of parking spaces. Facilities were in good shape and enjoyable. Spa staff were polite and well trained.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hanging baskets outside the hotel and very good Wi-Fi.
Fantastic experience: Easy access for disabled from the car park , all on the flat Friendly staff ..food and drinks all good would highly recommend
Positive experience: Old school hotel & spa. Really friendly people. Shame the restaurant was closed, would have been 5 stars.
Fantastic experience: This is probably the best hotel I've stayed in while in Cwmbran (frequent visit for work). Well presented room, adequately cleaned and good breakfast
Fantastic experience: First time being in parkway hotel ,afternoon tea was excellent l would recommend it to anyone lovely room excellent service and food
Positive experience: Came for a conference, the board room seemed neat and tidy. The foot provided was lovely. The tea and coffee was replenished throughout. Decor seems a little dated. Staff were all polite and helpful, toilets were clean and in a good condition. My worst criticism is that they should have provided more jugs of water for each table at the conference as it was a warm day.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel who do a great breakfast. Beds are comfy
Positive experience: Staff rather abrupt when serving but young lad who who collected cups etc was very pleasant.
Positive experience: Lovely, friendly hotel, the staff are great. Food in the restaurant fabulous Rooms good also. Would definitely reccomend, have stayed a few times.
Fantastic experience: Really nice little place, isolated and cosy. The hotel's facilities are just icing on the cake. Really good food at a very reasonable price and the spa treatment was very good
Fantastic experience: Had yet another fabulous suit, staff so helpful, very clean rooms food excellent, service can't fault. Reception staff very helpful and welcoming. Paula, one of the reception staff, goes out of her way to help. Nothing is any trouble for this lady ,very welcoming kind and goes the extra mile a pleasure to be assisted by Paula credit to this hotel
Fantastic experience: Been here several times for Sunday lunch in the restaurant. Cannot recommend the Parkway hotel enough for food, never stayed in the rooms but the hotel itself is so lovely, has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere so would definitely recommend. Went to the Parkway today for Sunday lunch with my family and the service was excellent as always, particularly Cerys who was so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much! I would highly recommend the Parkway to dine and stay at, cannot fault it.
Fantastic experience: So good staff amazing breakfast really good. Very happy stay
Fantastic experience: Great hotel, staff was nice and helpful. Would visit again and great breakfast
Fantastic experience: Service from the staff was excellent! Everyone cared and wanted to help! The food was brilliant from restaurant, breakfast and bar! By far the biggest portion sizes I’ve had in a long time and the price was very reasonable! Would giggle recommend to anyone looking for a little break away or for business!
Fantastic experience: All the staff were so lovely and welcoming. Great facilities and services.
Negative experience: AWFUL!!!! AWFUL!!! AWFUL!!! Staff were rude to me and my kids. The leisure facilities are grotty and smelly. Wouldn’t recommend this place. Should be a 1* hotel Just be aware if your looking!!!!!! Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!!! I Had been there a few times with my kids and we have never been spoken to like that. Upseting my children like that isn’t acceptable in any circumstances. Feel totally let down. I was a fully paid member and was told on numerous occasions that it’s ok to bring my kids to the pool. I was then told on that evening that I should take my kids home and we should leave as I haven’t read the terms and conditions properly. Great service. I’m more than happy to pay for my children to swim if I was made aware. I do think though £30 for kids swim I paid after being kicked out was a little steep, considering the quality of the hotel . The facilities were good in the 90’s but need updating. There’s way too many things broken, missing, unavailable, not working etc. It’s just not what you would expect. This echos through the hotel. Please don’t come at me with I should have read the terms and conditions. The service the facilities and the way you treated me and my kids were sub standard. I do however thank you for responding and I thank you for cancelling my membership. I can only leave my honest review for others. If your upset by the review then you can take this comment on board and update your hotel and staff/management There’s a few reviews that point out the same so it’s not isolated. Anyway. Celtic manor is ten mins away, and If you’re thinking of getting married here then maybe look elsewhere as it won’t be the magic you want.
Many thanks for your feedback Paul. We are really upset by your review. As you were made aware last night, bringing extra guests into the club without paying is against the terms & conditions you agreed to when you took out your membership. Thank you
Negative experience: Pros: Friendly staff, the breakfast was lovely and the spa facilities are really amazing! Cons: the room was tired, musty and unfortunately wasn’t cleaned properly (hairs in the bath, dirty bathroom floor, a few stains and quite dusty). We ordered room service for dinner which was disappointing for the amount it cost!, the walls are also paper thin so was woken many times during the night from noisy neighbours. I have stayed at the Celtic Manor a fair few times now and is relatively comparable in price with the Parkway and would say that the Celtic Manor is by far way worth the slightly additional expense. Unfortunately we would not stay here again.
Fantastic experience: Booked a spa day with friends. £59.50. = full use of spa, jacuzzi, pool, sauna, 1 treatment. I had the back shoulder and neck massage. Jazmine was doing the treatment and would highly recommend. A few hours to unwind, then to the restaurant for a high tea. Fantastic 7 hours. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: I stayed in this hotel, The Staff was really helpful and polite. The Room was clean and comfortable. I like the hotel.
Positive experience: Wouldn't rush back, told them we had a wheel chair but they still stuck us across the room so other diners had to move so we could get to the table.
Fantastic experience: Spa was lovely, the steam room sauna and hot tub were great and the massage was very nice, great for relaxing
Negative experience: If your here for the spa your going to get a nasty shock when you go down there smell was just the worst like it never had clean I had to pass on using any off these fertility. Needs to be updated was like going back in 1980. The hotel should be ashamed of themselves but others then that bar was great stuff where lovely very kind and friendly
Positive experience: We came for the spa day, id say it was mediocre. I didn't rate my massage, it was more like a tickle, I came out still needing a massage despite me stating how tense I was on the shoulders and neck. Everywhere else I've been have asked for firmness. The facilities like pool and jacuzzi were extremely busy and you were battling for a space which is annoying when you're only there for a short time, I don't think they cap their capacity so all the members and day users are trying to get their share. The food however was lush, I rate the chicken and hallumomi salad. We won't be returning.
Positive experience: Gorgeous Sunday roast.. amazing treatment rooms and treatments but the pool area really lets it down. Had a problem but the manager was amazing and could t have done more to help!
Positive experience: This is a lovely venue. We were guests at a wedding there last year which was lovely, food was excellent. However, we also went there for afternoon tea which unfortunately I cannot say was sooo good. Very poor value for money. Sandwiches had wafer thin ham in them and only one slice, no butter on the bread, other fillings were sparse too. Service was non existent once our food was placed on a table that was far too small to accommodate all the cups and sauces etc. our tea and coffee was not replenished. This was bought as a present for myself and my hubby at £59. Extremely poor all round. It is such a shame as it is a lovely venue, but we won’t go there again. I brought this to the staff attention but although they tried to correct it, it was still not good. I arranged to meet a manager there the next day to explain how I felt and give constructive feedback. However, this was not welcomed very well and there was No apology for the poor quality of the sandwiches.
Fantastic experience: Great hotel. Attended on sadder circumstances. For a funeral. Never been before and the hotel was really busy on a mid week day. Service and staff were amazing. Nice place.
Positive experience: We were staying locally for business purposes just as well as there appears to be little else near the hotel. It is a large clean modern looking with some older appearances. A large central fireplace in the main entrance and bar area was very welcoming on a cold wet February day. The food served in the bar was very tasty and value for money. The bar had a reasonable range of drinks but being a captivated audience the prices were bit steep. I had a room on the ground floor behind reception, it was good size with a large comfortable bed, the bathroom was well sized as well, teas and coffee are provided when I found the tray hidden in a cupboard. Would I stay there for myself probably not, would I stay for work reasons locally definitely.
Positive experience: Had a nasty experience Christmas Day (this was our 4th time of booking) and the only offer was a refund of one meal. I did accept this as was fed up of going back and forth. Difficult to get management to understand that I was not complaining about the food I was complaining about the drink which was tipped over me and the fact I had to sit for 3 hours on a soaking wet table in dripping wet clothes. It was the day which was ruined for all four not the food!! Would not book Christmas Day again
Positive experience: Had a carvery today had some vouchers to use up. Food was good. One of our puddings was hard. Told one of the servers and had money for the pudding taken off. All in all very good
Fantastic experience: Went for Christmas Dinner. I have to say the food was absolutely delicious . The service was impeccable. All with a smile on their face. Atmosphere was a bit lacking the singer was singing old songs, which the majority of the people there were not born . A bit more upbeat would have been better. Apart from that an amazing day. The hotel lobby very welcoming.
Negative experience: I wanted to like the spa trip so much but definitely not worth the £195 paid for a couple, the massage was good but that’s where it ends, the room was so hot it was unbearable but had no way of turning the radiator that was on full blast, off. The robes provided where a one size fits all, all being anyone under 8st I’m guessing so instead of wearing the robe down to the treatment rooms I had to go in my regular clothes, no slippers provided either so had to wear my own shoes down, not like a normal spa at all! So due to this we were unable to use any other facilities like the pool or jacuzzi ………… the food was less than to be desired, my burger was grey tasted awful, and the breakfast the bacon was the same, this is something to do with how it is stored. I didn’t want to make a fuss whilst there as I have terrible anxiety. Definitely will not return sorry, the staff were lovely but everything else a total let down! Have robes for plus size, provide slippers, please give anti bacterial sop in the bathroom (oat soap bar provided is not antibacterial!) and update the food!
Fantastic experience: Had our annual meeting with lunch. The hotel staff couldn't do enough for us even though they were run off their feet. Would highly recommend The Parkway
Fantastic experience: The Parkway Hotel in Cwmbran is an absolute gem! From the moment you step through the doors, you're welcomed into an atmosphere that instantly feels like a proper hotel where you are going to be spoiled. It's no surprise the Parkway is busy, guests and locals gather throughout the day to enjoy coffee, lunch or evening meals. The sofas by the fire are the perfect place for tucking into some chocolate fudge cake and coffee; this is where I spend most of my time, chatting and watching the staff put up the Christmas decorations and trees. The attention to cleanliness is impeccable; the facilities and surroundings are kept pristine throughout the day. My bedroom was a treat indeed, a spacious garden suite with patio doors leading to a private outside seating area. The bed felt luxurious, as did the big, warm bathroom with its lovely soaps and good quality towels. Breakfast was served in an attractive room with a mouthwatering choice of everything you could think of; again, the thoughtful service from the staff was much appreciated. In summary, the Parkway Hotel is a hub of warmth, friendliness, and comfort. It's a place where I felt truly spoiled and I appreciated the little luxuries and good food that made my stay memorable. The Parkway has certainly won my heart, and I can't recommend it enough. Thanks to the staff who cheerfully kept me company while I sat about all day waiting for my lift which was 6 hrs late!
Positive experience: Sadly this hotel has gone a bit downhill. The staff are really lovely and helpful as always; however, we could not get a restaurant dinner at all during our stay due to staff shortages. The breakfast was terrible, mainly congealed food on a buffet. The 'Colonial' spa needs an urgent rebranding! Management need to step up and do some quality control. I feel sorry for the staff, who are really welcoming and delightful. I'll be looking for alternatives on our next Welsh trip.
Positive experience: Not been there before. Just called by for a coffee. Lovely hotel. Will definately be visiting again!
Positive experience: This is one of the better hotels I have stayed in over the last few years, everything from the welcome and diligence of the staff at reception was outstanding. The rooms where immaculate and comfortable and the food is absolutely superb. The estate hotel is highly recommended.
Positive experience: I haven't stayed in a room, but I often pop in for a coffee and a cake to take a break. Cakes are excellent and staff are friendly.
Positive experience: Came here for a massage & 3 course meal. The food was outstanding and the massage was perfect, it would have been lovely for the massage to have lasted longer but I can always go back for another. I did overhear the staff chatting amongst themselves saying "I'm not touching her" due to me having fibromyalgia so I did feel a bit of out place so because of that I'd not return here.
Positive experience: Lovely hotel .went for a coffee. Good food and drink there .and all facilities. Set in a lovely location
Fantastic experience: I visited the Parkway with a friend for afternoon tea. What a lovely experience, beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Lovely table by the window watching the chickens roam the garden. Will definitely book again as I have lots of friends haha
Fantastic experience: 4 of us had a wonderful afternoon tea. The service was really good and the food was absolutely wonderful. Plenty of tea and we did have a takeaway box as there was so much to eat. The scones were really light and the welsh cakes were to die for. Will definitely visit again.
Negative experience: Massively overpriced. Bed was comfy and the shower was very good but other than that I can't really praise it. Staff on the front desk were stand offish, (cleaning staff around the hotel were lovely!), decor is stuck in the 70s, full cooked breakfast was mostly inedible - bacon was grey and soggy, poached egg was like a hockey puck, there was eggshells in the beans... Toast machine was operating luckily! Felt like the place just desperately needs some TLC and about £50 knocked off the price per night.
Fantastic experience: Attended a wedding party at the hotel and was very impressed with the way the room was done out, service was was great, throughly enjoyed the evening. Drink prices not to bad for a hotel. Did not stay so can't comment on anything else
Negative experience: The staff were lovely, the bed was comfortable and did its job, but for what it is, it's very over priced. The décor is very dated, the rooms, although very clean, look like your nans bedroom in a 90's assisted living facility, everything was brown, there was no Aircon just a small fan and there is a warning to keep the bathroom door shut while showering otherwise you will set the fire alarm off! We could have stayed at the Celtic manor for the same price, but chose the parkway due to location near our friends. Honestly, it needs to be £50 a night cheaper, we stayed at the park plaza in Cardiff the night before for £40 less and the rooms are a lot nicer and modern.
Fantastic experience: Eight of us had a lovely spa/afternoon tea package with treatment here on Tuesday. From start to Finnish was perfect. Beautiful place and surroundings ,staff were so lovely made us feel so very welcome. Treatments were amazing and the afternoon tea was delicious.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place. Beautiful interior. We only had a meal there, and it was awesome. Staff were attentive and friendly.
Fantastic experience: Very nice hotel. We celebrated my husband's birthday. It was quiet and the visitors were polite. Friendly staff. We also enjoyed the pool and sauna. We ate dinner in a restaurant. The food is fresh and tasty. We chose the soup of the day and the steak. A very wide choice for breakfast. Only check-out could be later than 10:00
Positive experience: Great location for travel around South wales. Clean rooms and comfy beds. Food was better then I expected. Spa and gym could do with updating to bring in a younger crowd. Great place to take your elders though.
Negative experience: Stayed 2 nights, bed and breakfast. It's a four star hotel and spa with prices to match. Booked for disabled and easy access. Website states newly furbished, I'd ask for my money back. Plenty parking spaces but only 3 disabled very poor for size of establishment. On entry very dull, lamps on all day but this did not help they need higher voltage. On check in receptionist was friendly and told us where our room was. They could have found a room further away from the facilities i.e. dining area and bar. I have difficulty walking, use a crutch, my breathing is bad due to lung problems so walking this far was a nightmare. Got into the room, which we had paid for a deluxe. If this was a deluxe I would have loved to see a standard. Curtains falling off, furniture scratched, no complimentary water as stated on website and brochure in room. Television sound didn't work called reception and girl came along to fix it. Kept switching TV off and on to get it working. Couldn't get in shower as it was in the bath. Room and en suite was clean but would not call the room deluxe. It was pretty standard and very disappointed . Hairdryer is fixed in a drawer with a very short flex you have to sit quite close to drawer to use it. Central light was hanging precariously from ceiling, kept watching it in case it fell off. Decided to try leisure facilities, website and brochure advertised different treatments. Also said there was a pool, gym, hot tub, sauna and steam room. Did not say you had to go down a flight of stairs to access them. Took me half an hour to get down to pool with the help of my daughter. Young boy on reception grunted to take a towel asked about treatments and if you can have them upstairs as the thought of dealing with them again was daunting. He said no. Large changing area with cubicles to change in, showers and spare towels available. Hairdryer and bags for wet costumes supplied. Pool was small 3' 6" at one end to 4' 6" other so not deep. Tried the sauna and steam room, could not use hot tub as members were in it. Leisure are us open to members of the public who are members. Gym was basic with multi walker, rower, treadmill etc. Did not go in only looked through window but did not see weights. Tried to get room changed to what we booked and was told hotel full to capacity, friendly receptionist turned grumpy. Breakfast is self service with good selection of bacon, 3 types of eggs fried etc. Mushrooms, fried bread, sausages etc. Fresh juice to help yourself and waitress served tea or coffee. There was also a light breakfast choice of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with porridge. Unfortunately they serve these together so your eggs get cold whilst eating your porridge. As a disabled person I could not recommend this hotel. Did not enjoy my stay which should have been relaxing but I found I needed another holiday after all the walking to my room and stairs.
Fantastic experience: Effective and comfortable solution for Newport and Cwmbran. Very green and peaceful location, comfy mattresses, clean rooms, welcoming staff (but reception coverage not always on point overnight). Very nice breakfast and breakfast hall. Free car park. Recommended!
Fantastic experience: Have been here a few times and it's always great. Today we went for afternoon tea, which was lovely. The team there couldn't do enough, they gave an ample amount of drink options other than tea and coffee, including fruit juices, coke and decaf. The food was great. Always a pleasure to come.
Fantastic experience: Evening meal and breakfast excellent. Room clean, comfortable and well decorated. Staff outstanding. Young staff in restaurant but they were all delightful and hard working. Spa relaxing. Fabulous ambience around the hotel.
Fantastic experience: Attended a family birthday party here recently and stayed the night. Excellent staff and accommodation with a great Elvis impersonator. All the staff were attentive and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Pop in with my soon to be mother in law and grandmother for afternoon tea. Staff were super helpful, the afternoon tea was beautiful and they even allowed us to show my grandmother the parts of the venue we are using for the wedding. After the service we received yesterday, I'm even more excited about getting married here. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Went for afternoon tea. Very nice nice mixture of flavours. Although I do agree with 1 of the previous reviews that. The finger sandwiches to cake ratios are out. Im more of a savoury than a sweet so 6 cakes to 4 little finger sandwiches I would prefer the other way round.
Positive experience: First time visiting the parkway hotel and spa, booked a night away with spa package for myself and partners anniversary. Overall was a lovely experience but certain points let this hotel down, wouldn't say its a 4 star hotel. Ive had better stays at a Premier Inn. Staff were all lovely, and friendly couldn't fault the customer service. The spa facilities were extremely clean, staff were helpful, no issues at all. The food was absolutely disgusting, we had an evening meal in the lounge which looked delicious but taste was terrible, the burger i order was gristly, and had no taste. My partner ordered the curry which tasted like a cheap microwave meal. Breakfast was even worse, ordered a full welsh English and could not believe what we were served, the sausages were pink and not even cooked, the bacon was pink undercooked aswell and the worse bit was it was green. Told a member of staff who replaced it with exactly the same but was disgusted when i showed him the undercooked meat. I did not expect this from a 4 star hotel and for the price they charge at £14.95 for a breakfast was shocking. The rooms were clean but very outdated and smelt like an old people's home. The whole hotel needs modernising and updating. I wouldn't return for an overnight stay but would return to use the spa facilities.
Positive experience: Rooms were modern, clean and had all the necessary facilities. Staff were friendly and helpful. They catered for gluten free by omitting some items. Appetizer of beetroot & horseradish butter was delicious, starter chicken liver parfait equally good, I then chose the carvery which I think wasn't the best option for GF it didn't match the starter but was fine. The real down was the wine, really awful Pinot Grigio I couldn't drink it. I paid and threw it away. The other options were not good. Stick to soft drinks or spirits.
Negative experience: If I could give this place a 0 star I would. When your paying £250 a night you expect somewhere decent this place is far from it, got a better bedroom at home than the rooms here! Walked in and was like walking into a old pensioners home must of been oap day out. The room was dirty and had all black mould around the window and window sill. When told the receptionist we wasn't happy could we have our money back as we didn't want to stay she took it personal like it was her own house but give us cash back and kept our voucher which we had baught for us as a Christmas present which is wrong as if your not satisfied somewhere, your not satisfied and they should respect a customers view and have all your money back not just some!! When walking out was looked at like we had 2 heads by receptionist and what I would say some sort of manager!! Advice to you, if you dont like what some people may think then give this hotel some upgrading and tlc!! Would never ever come to this place and would never ever recommend it to anyone !! Keep your money or go somewhere you know that's nice and you will enjoy.
Positive experience: Sunday lunch, slow service, massive difference in size of portions depending on who dishes up. Person opposite me had 3 times amount on plate compared to mine. Veg thrown any where on plate. Very strange way of serving a carvery, staff do it all and carry to table. Took 3 1/2 hours for 3 courses. Had to get up and look for staff twice to order sweet.
Positive experience: Was attending our sisters funeral so stayed one night, we asked if we could check in earlier than normal and they were great accommodating us, beds were lovely and comfortable food fantastic and big portions, service in the lounge was slow but they were understaffed, had a lovely swim and much needed destress in the jacuzzi, all in all a lovely place x
Positive experience: Went with family for Mother's Day meal. It was a bit overpriced but nice food. Also, 3 of us had to wait a long time for afters, while the other members in our family group had their's ages ago . Their was a singer entertaining us all but he was a bit loud and we couldn't hear ourselves talk. He wasn't the best either .
Fantastic experience: Enjoy our coffee morning with fellow retired friends once a week. Lovely HOT coffee Always severed with a smile. A weekly must for me. Oh, and there is a wide selection of cakes and savouries to enjoy with your coffee.
Fantastic experience: Excellent in every way.!! Food. Staff. The stay. Went on a coach trip. 32 of us. Nothing too much trouble at all. Excellent pool and sauna. Brilliant buffet breakfast. Carvery for evening meal. All fresh. Couldn’t fault.
Positive experience: Great hotel with amazing jacuzzi and good pool along with steam and sauna facilities. Had no chance to use the restaurant hence cant comment on that. Overall a very comfortable stay. Little interior from location point of view but surroundings of hotel are amazing.
Fantastic experience: We had 60 birthday party in one of banqueting rooms for 34 guests the way tables was set out and dressed was first class the food was very good served hot the staff was so professional in way they worked to gather and nothing was too much trouble for them. I higher recommended parkway hotel
