Concordia Leisure Centre

Negative experience: I was unable to attend the gym for a while due to illness. I went last week and the gym was closed, there was a temporary gym open until 9pm but 20 minutes into my work out I was told to leave as there was a class about to start. I then went to use the Spa which also wasn't fully operational, the sauna was closed. There also was no water facilities in the gym. I emailed to express my disappointment and I was told that I could use any other gyms in Northumberland. I don't drive, so I took a bus from Cramlington to Ashington which was almost an hour, only to arrive there and find this gym also was undergoing refurbishment and was closed. I wrote another email and had the same response. I have called today and the lady was very nice but she has been instructed by Places for Leisure not to refund anyone and couldn't do anything. It's ridiculous to be paying £50 a month and not being able to use the facilities. I will be cancelling my membership as soon as the contract has ended and advising everyone to avoid. It has really gone downhill and is definitely not value for money. Customer Service is non-existent. Matt Bowman

Negative experience: Very disappointed with the pool and spar at the moment. The pool has sand in the bottom and the water is now always very cold. The jacuzzi has sand all over the bottom and on the seats and the sauna has now been off for months with no date of a fix. The disabled shower does not work and the hairdryers are both not working. The other showers you have to keep your hand on the button at all times or there is no water comes out which makes it hard to use properly. When asking staff about the issues their reply is go somewhere else. When you are paying £50 a month for the spa and use of the pool this is just not acceptable

Negative experience: Used to take our own kids here regularly but today visited with our grandson. Despite being told in the afternoon that there was no need to book, when we arrived at 15.45 we were made to wait until 16.00 to get changed. The pool had no more than 8 in it before or after 16.00. The changing rooms stink of wee. The cubicles are tiny. After 50 minutes in the pool we were asked to leave as our time was up. About 6 people in at that time. The showers were ice cold. This was like stepping back in time in old municipal swimming pools. Will not be back.

Fantastic experience: Modern gym machines, excellent sports hall

Positive experience: Went to soft play, floor wasn't very clean as people had dropped stuff on floor and not tidied up, also baby seats where dirty.

Positive experience: Nice place for kids, swimming, clip and climb and other things to keep them entertained at good prices. Loads of other things to do aswell.

Positive experience: Feel like gym needs a up date.

Negative experience: Pool floor is very dirty, changing rooms floor is covered in hair and god knows what and doesn’t look cleaned very often. Cleaning needs improvement in this premises as is very poor and is extremely off putting for wanting to come back.

Fantastic experience: Great place to go to the gym, a swim, a game of badminton and even a round of ten pin bowling

Negative experience: I used to like this place because of the warm water, but lately, the water temperature has been lowered significantly. Additionally, the cleanliness has become an issue. The pool floor is extremely dirty, with strange debris and sand floating around, and it's full of hair that you can feel between your fingers while swimming. The overall standard has definitely gone down, making it less appealing to return. The kickboards are also chewed up and look awful.

Negative experience: Arrived to find that you had to book for swimming. This is not clearly mentioned on their website which I had checked in adance. I did also try phoning in advance, but it immediately answered with the out of hours message stating that phone hours were available at the time I was calling at ‍♂️ Wasted journey, disappointed children

Positive experience: Great place to take kids on a rainy day Swimming, clip n climb, soft play

Negative experience: Took the grandbairns to soft play , it's okay but badly set up for watching them. Now I've probably never been to Concordia in oooo around 20 years the toilets have never been up dated in that time still the same holes stuffed with chewing gum on the stall doors and walls , black mould silicone around sinks it's a damn disgrace to the place .

Negative experience: The left hand doesn't know what right hand is doing.

Positive experience: Lots of facilities

Negative experience: Booked 1hr bowling season for my nephew and me the ball kept getting stuck and for 3 frames we lost there was no apology or offer of replacing the frames

Negative experience: Took grandchildren today, disappointed that my 3 year old grandaughter couldn't use small pool or shallow end due to swimming lessons taking place. Wouldn't have booked if I had known. Perhaps something could be put onto website when booking? Pool cold & non of water features working - something grandchildren love & main reason we go to Concordia. Very disappointed.

Fantastic experience: Staff so friendly and lots to do for the whole family.

Negative experience: Everything ok staff pleasant but male changing room have the worst showers last for exactly 2 seconds before switching off and the piped music you could hang yourself too absolute rubbish

Fantastic experience: Tried pilates,yoga, cycling, badminton,boxing classes and was really fun. Brilliant instructors.

Negative experience: Workers where very rude and shouted at a group of teenagers including my child specifically a short brown haired woman with glasses, she kicked them out for just sitting has done this multiple times even though they have caused no problems, disappointed in the ageism and blatant stereotyping of these groups, disgusting

Fantastic experience: I love Concordia, the best spots centre in Britain. It has swimming, climbing walls, badminton, sauna, spinning and so many classes. The 10 pin bowling is fantastic, including a bar and coffee shop with pool tables. It used to have a roller disco, but that was stopped when they got new flooring, which was a great loss to the many attendees, but that doesn't stop the place being the best sports facility in the north.

Fantastic experience: Yah, great stuff. I use the app to book so I avoid disappointment. Nice place - quite old now but in good nick. Lots of choices for classes etc. Active Northumberland membership is excellent value Imo. When I can't book in in Ashington (my local) I can easily get a class in Blyth or Concordia. .

Fantastic experience: Superb spin classes in a modern tiered and spacious studio, highly recommend! Worth the early morning 6.30am to get in and get it done! Fantastic professional and knowledgeable instructors. Lots of other great looking facilities including leisure pool and climbing wall amongst others. Membership is great value for money

Positive experience: I have lived in cramlington my whole life, luckily we still have our concordia leasure centre. A lot of other centres or pools closed down in area but ours managed to stay "afloat". Saying that though a new pool revamp would be great as it hasn't changed in 30 odd year. Has a great gym, clip and climb, soft play and bowling alley upstairs. Oh and a cafe of course, plenty for you or the family to do.

Negative experience: Despite Concordia being a great venue generally, the pool experience was pretty awful. The pool water was like stepping into dirty chlorinated bath water! Floaters and dirt visible in the shallow pool but water looked generally scummy. I couldn't wait to leave. Beware not to forget any belongings in the lockers as I did which got stolen - kids floater vest & armbands! Just terrible.

Negative experience: You have to book ahead for everything. We went swimming, 2 adults and 2 children which cost a whopping £16! And you're only allowed 55 minutes which includes getting changed!! It's ridiculous! Not impressed at all.

Fantastic experience: Nice leisure centre. We have visited the clip and climb and the bowling alley within here but not the pool. Everything must be booked online in advance and you need to set up an account with the local council which if I remember was a bit complicated. Good value.

Negative experience: Staff were rude and did not seem happy to help at all. Spa toilets and changing rooms were not clean, mould on the shower curtains, hair in showers, tissues on floor, toilets simply unhygienic, ect. Shame because we liked the spa there and the sauna seemed to be the hottest out of all of the other active spas we have tried.

Positive experience: Pool and the changing rooms need updating.

Fantastic experience: So much under one roof. I use the gym, spa, classes and pool. My daughter loves the bowling and clip and climb. It's such a great resource for local people and the staff are so lovely.

Positive experience: My only problem is the temperature in the downstairs studio which is unacceptably cold at times, even when the rest of the building is warm

Fantastic experience: Compared to a few years ago, Concordia has such a vast array of activities for the full family and you could spend countless hours there and not get bored. There is a pool, clip n climb, soft play, bowling, gym, courts and even a spa! Make sure you get the Active Northumberland app to book activities and it is all cashless so bring your bank card

Fantastic experience: Visited the clip and climb with my son. Really great set up for kids to experience climbing in a safe environment (adults are also allowed to climb). Will definitely be visiting again.

Fantastic experience: Great facilities for all. Took my grandsons bowling for the first time. It's cosy as there aren't many lanes unlike the old one that use to be at Benton. Great soft play and a climbing wall, that my eldest grandson fancied. Another day I'm afraid! My youngest grandson comes here for swimming lessons during the week and youngest son use to play volleyball here many moons ago.

Positive experience: Lovely afternoon using the bowling alley then air hockey. Great that if you are wearing trainers you don't need to change shoes. Had a drink while playing and comfortable areas to sit and watch too.

Fantastic experience: Been using the Elevate part of gym contract. Working with Danielle and Ben. They have been brilliant. Changing programme up for me to be more challenging. They are very supportive, friendly and helpful and made me not scared of asking questions.

Fantastic experience: I went to the spa with a friend and we had an amazing time. It is really a luxurious place with sauna, jacuzzi, foot baths, steam room, aromatherapy, ice showers and access to the swimming pool. Everything was easily accessible and we went from one thing to another enjoying every minute. The sauna is a decent size so we could lie flat without hogging it. Even the overhead music was rather nice. I could have stayed all day. There were also free hairdryers in the changing rooms so for £10/hr it was really good value.

Negative experience: Bowling was awful, had around 5 issues throughout the game where the lane crashed or pins wouldn't come back ect... did give us a free game for next time though so it must happen often

Positive experience: Loved the bowling, the animations as we played were hilarious. 1 adult n 1 child for 1 game is a bit steep at £10 and only 20 mins play time. It's busy so book early, ps the web site / app is just rubbish.

Fantastic experience: A great sports centre with friendly, helpful staff. The major benefit of the pool and changing rooms is it's warmer than other local pools and not overly busy.

Fantastic experience: Visited this evening to book softplay and bowling for the weekend, for a larger group of adults and children. The staff I dealt with were exceptional. Fantastic manner, nothing was a problem. Made a note of times and availability so I could coordinate both activities. Made the whole thing very easy.

Negative experience: Bowling was great fun but it's a shame the food took forever then was very poorly presented and the chips were fries not chips as stated on the menu then they weren't cooked soggy yellow yacky mess Don't eat here go to McDonald's instead 5 minutes away

Positive experience: First time here went bowling with all the grand kids they have just about everything you need for entertainment soft play / climbing wall /swimming pool / bowling and that is only the things that I noticed. Unfortunately the lift was out of order so had to go up the stairs with the pram. The bowling was reasonably priced the staff were very good all the sitting areas were cleaned before you could start Only one fault the bowling assistance ramp for kids could do with some repairs but we still managed with it

Negative experience: Good facilities, however staff can be highly judgemental.

Fantastic experience: Great place has swimming pool, ten pin bowling and many more facilities for sports. Also a cafe lovely selection of food.

Fantastic experience: Great gym, good range of dumbbells, bars and weights. Booking system is very easy to use. Staff are friendly and helpful. Could do with more vario cardio machines as the 3 they have always fill up at peak times, but that's just a personal niggle. Free WiFi and comfortable conditions (warm in winter and cool in summer) access to all the council gyms and classes in Northumberland for a reasonable price.

Negative experience: Absolutel joke active northumberland, tried to book swim, app booked wrong date. 20 minutes on hold to speak to a really nice person, to be told date non transferable and would have to pay again for date wanted, one disappointed son, never using concordia again.

Fantastic experience: We went bowling really good afternoon food and drinks friendly staff

Positive experience: Nice clip and climb and good swimming pool. But need to pre book as restrictions still in place for the amount of people allowed in at once for social distancing rules. So it can be hard to go swimming for weeks especially in the kids holidays. Not the easiest to book as either phones not answered or no available slots for a family of 4.
