Marjon Sport & Health Centre

Fantastic experience: Excellent facility just behind Derriford hospital, we had a futsal match against Argyle in the sports hall which was well equipped and maintained. There is a small swimming pool, fully fitted gym and fitness centre, climbing wall amongst others on site as well as a Costa coffee. Reception was friendly and helpful and toilets facilities aplenty

Negative experience: Grass very long and untidy a lot of rubbish every were toilets not to good need a clean and the coffee or cafe only one person aeeing to every thing que was long

Fantastic experience: Me and my husband have had a family gym and swim membership here for just over a month. We swapped from PureGym and I am so glad we did. The facilities are much nicer. No intimidating gym bros taking over all the free weights or loud club music blaring. The gym is compact but has a great, varied range of equipment. It's never massively busy and other gym users are always respectful. It's also great having access to the pool (hour slots, booking required) as we can bring the kids swimming once or twice a week.

Positive experience: Parking problem Just free for the first 1/5 hours ? It must be free for 3 hours, why not? Life centre Parking +YMCA + some large sports centre all are free parking space. You not agree?

Positive experience: Overall I enjoyed my time at marjons gym and uni. Overall a good gym with friendly staff and a good pool. The downsides are the pool is not very usable. You have to book. The cafe is nice if you catch it at the right time and food is OK. Could do with a bit of a refurbishment in certain areas but I get its a uni gym.

Fantastic experience: A excellent sports center for the public and the university it also holds a ( medical center for lower limb only by appointment). Excellent friendly staff and excellent keep fit center.

Fantastic experience: Take my kids swimming here. The facilities are really good and it's always fully of life. Wish they were a little more relaxed on the parking as I have to park really far away when I bring my kids swimming. Updated 2024: I've moved from puregym to the gym here and have a family membership so I can take my children swimming. I'm really happy with the gym here, it's always kept clean and the members are encouraged to clean the equipment afterwards. The equipment is better than it is at PureGym and it's very well laid out. The swimming facilities have always been really good and the staff have always been really friendly and helpful. I'm here all the time now and can't fault it. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: Gym instructors are immature and rude. Gym is cramped and poorly laid out. Pool is not open all the time. Shuts at 1700 at the weekend. For a university with a sports science focus this gym should be a embarrassment

Negative experience: Lovely place clean and tidy but it's a shame about the staff there extremely immature and rude I was walking past reception the othere day when I heard two guys say she's weird one tall slim framed guy with dark hair the other a little shorter with glasses short dark hair I just felt really upset walking past like they could speak about people so blatantly like that :( also another time I was in the gym using the floor mats when a group of about 3 guys who work there cam over to look at something on the bord and was practically stood right on my matt I was using to work out on for a good 10 mins I just thought it was really rude and made me feel really uncomfortable it's not on how they treat people I hope it dosnt happen to anyone els :(

Negative experience: Just don't bother. Waste of time

Negative experience: This place is terrible and I can see why everyone was telling me not to join here. Facilities are often closed or restricted for other things so you pay for something you can’t use and when you want to use the pool you have to book in advance and can only attend during certain times. Compared to the life centre and Devonshire it’s never open. The gym isn’t bad but the equipment range is limited there isn’t a lot of weights equipment so you can go for a whole workout without using what you want. The shower and toilet facilities are often dirty and slippery with damaged floors and tiles. Shower facilities here are still communal. Whilst the staff are pleasant they are clearly untrained and unsupported. My Membership was cancelled about a week after I joined And the staff seemed happy about that so they didn’t have to deal with me keep asking for what I paid for!

Negative experience: If you like to share a shower with multiple men this is your gym. I'm dissapointed that there are barely any private cubicles to shower in peace. Its also dissapointing to have to go through all the effort to book a slot to use the pool rather than just use it when you feel. It also closes quite early for a gym on weekends.

Negative experience: They Refused to give me a refund i payed online I had to start a new shift at work days after paying so i couldn't attend any sessions they refused to give me a refund i never attended one session they still wouldn't give me a refund no hearts.

Positive experience: Staff and facilities are excellent. I would give it 5 stars if it had private shower facilities. I have no desire to be fully naked with children and other adults walking past. Doesn't take much to provide a cubicle with a door on it

Fantastic experience: I went today to the physio dept with a calf and knee problem picked up playing football yesterday. Alfie was excellent. Genial, knowledgeable and effective. I highly recommend this place. Great value for money too.
