Fantastic experience: First time for us at the party night. Great food Service was excellent. Will be back next year

Positive experience: The Hotel was nice it is a old hotel the staff are very friendly and nice and welcoming we stayed in the Garden Rooms and the room it self was nice we had a child the bed is like a bench the kettle takes forever in the bathroom in the garden rooms they have 2 showers and 2 sinks both are clean the sinks take forever to drain water but in good condition same with the shower I would recommend this hotel and definitely worth it ADVICE DO NOT HAVE THE TIKKA MALLSA it’s so spicy it will burn your tounge open

Negative experience: Awful, unclean rooms. Black hairs all over pillowcases. A musty odour and cooking smells, fan from the kitchen. Bugs on the carpet. Completely unhygienic! When this was brought to the manager, Tiago’s attention he refused to refund our last minute booking. We left and paid for an alternative hotel with no refund or apology (post or during from Tiago). Avoid at all costs. Following on from Tiago's response below. This is not factual, we went to reception as soon as we noticed the black hairs all over the pillowcases and bedding. The insects on the floor were indeed mentioned to the duty manager at the time the hairs on the bed were reported. Whether this was reported to Tiago or not I am unsure as we were not involved in that communication. We were NOT in the room for 45 minutes before reporting as we went to reception on finding the aforementioned, the duty manger came and we advised we would like to leave and receive a refund. When we advised this the duty manager left to check with Tiago. We were offered another room but declined as we did not trust the alternative would meet our expected hygiene levels. I cannot emphasise enough how appalled and horrified we were at finding black hairs all over the pillowcases. We did not want another room and would have very much appreciated a refund. Even though Tiago decided not to extend this to us we still decided to leave as you could not pay us to stay here in the conditions of this room!

Fantastic experience: stayed while on business. Entrance slightly confusing as its hidden behind a hedge. rooms were nice & clean, gym well equip with modern equipment & food in the resturant tasted good. the burger i had did look very sad though haha. Bed nice & comfy with a good night's sleep. Breakfast was also good. Overall, great stay.

Positive experience: Lovely clean room & hotel. Had toastie for lunch, nice n tasty. Breakfast was really good, bacon, sausage & eggs very good quality. I would say that our welcome receptionist could have been a little more informative.

Fantastic experience: Great place with a steam room, sauna and swimming pool. There's a large garden out back and also a mini bar inside the hotel to chill as well so all worth it for the price.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely tip top service from the whole team at this lovely hotel. I chose this hotel for a training conference which was perfect in the Nairn Suite. The bedrooms were clean & had everything we needed for our stay. Beds were comfy & the rooms had a traditional style about them. Lovely maintained gardens with a great view from my window. Every member of the team I spoke to were attentive, polite & friendly the service was great. Lovely food, great drinks. There is also a pool & spa which unfortunately I didn't get chance to use due to my busy schedule looking after my delegates. I thoroughly recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay in this region.

Negative experience: Although I realise that the hotel was within its rights legally not to allow us to postpone our date of stay I was very disappointed with their decision. We have been very loyal customers over many years -we have already stayed there this year. They have now forfeited our business for many years to come for the sake of letting us postpone a one night stay, especially at this time of a family bereavement. The end of an era - we won’t be staying there again.

Negative experience: I stayed for a family event in the area and wish i hadnt hotel was quiet but they put me in furthest away room on 2nd floor limited room height due to building eaves, the room was straight out 90s hasnt been modernised in years old teak furniture tv positioned below waist height on a wall so unusable, bed and mattress were shockingly bad and uncomfortable mattress was old and painful to sleep on was going to use kettle till i looked inside filling it and it was black on the inside, when i checked in even though up 4 flights of stairs no offer of assistance with my luggage no information on hotel or facilities at check in, stayed in holiday inn,premier inn and travelodge in area all budget but miles ahead of this room and service i was given not one member of staff approached me on a two night stay to ask how stay was, update to owners reply yes it was your hotel each level has 2 flights of stairs to first floor then secon floor and furniture in room was teak looking colour and absoloutely no help or assistance from staff and please do not try to make out its not the right hotel when you know fine well you can check bookings but i guess i should expect a reply like that to continue the no service i received at your hotel.

Fantastic experience: Excellent hotel nestled in a quiet setting. Very attentive customer service, all amenities a hotel can offer, found fan in closet which is perfect! Towel warmer, kettle for coffee or tea and some sweet treats. Comfortable room and comfortable bed. Book main floor if you have accessibility issues as no elevator but loads of Stagg to help carry bags up. Ample parking as we had a coach bus who could easily drop-off and pick up. Also great wifi!

Positive experience: Good hotel and room. Had dinner and breakfast which were both pretty good with a decent choice. While I was staying there the pool and gym were closed for an annual deep clean. This was very annoying as I specifically chose the hotel for use of these facilities and it would have been helpful to have been given that information before I made the booking.

Negative experience: Unhelpful staff when I asked for the wine menu. Boarder line rude Because of this we did not eat here shame really.

Fantastic experience: We had such a great time at the wedding! The hotel was super peaceful and felt like home. There's loads of space inside and in the gardens, and the antique decor is just lovely. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!

Fantastic experience: Stayed here for one night Alan the manager could not do enough to help us with our booking as we had a dog with us he is the perfect manager.When we arrived the young man at reception was so polite and helpful as we're the rest of the staff.The room we were given was very clean and spacious and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was one of the best we have had on our travels and again the staff were wonderful and even asked if our dog would like some water.Once again thank you to Alan who is a wonderful asset to the hotel and we will definitely be back.

Fantastic experience: We love to stay at this hotel, food is great. Staff friendly and helpful and location suits us for visiting Fife beaches etc by car. We love a pet friendly hotel and Balgeddie House is definitely pet friendly.

Fantastic experience: From the moment we checked in, we instantly fell in love with this hotel. Every single member of staff that we spoke with were so nice. Really friendly and helpful. we had help to carry our bags up to our room (which was gorgeous, with a massive bed & lovely views over the gorgeous garden) the service at breakfast and supper was excellent and the food was hot, plentiful and delicious. Whether it was a member of the day team or the night team, each and every one of them made our stay just perfect and we'd like to thank them all so much for making our 3 nights so special. We were only initially booked in for 2 nights, but sitting on the terrace with a drink after supper, we decided that we would (if possible) like to stay another night. They were very accommodating and we didn't even have to change rooms which was fabulous. 10/10 for this super gem of a hotel. If Carlsberg did hotels, it would be this one! We will definitely be back.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful property very well suited as a celebration venue with its wonderful garden. The inside of this old mansion reflects the history of the property: fireplaces in the lounge areas, a nice bar area to go to after dinner, a large wooden staircase, wooden floors that creak under the carpet, a roomy powder room next to the restaurant, beautiful architecture, but also room doors that need to be slammed to be shut properly, the toilet flush that is difficult to operate, walls so thin that one can hear the neighbor speak, snore, cough, etc. Still, this is part of the charm of the Balgeddie House. The pool area is also very nice with warm water and a designated lane to swim lapses. One will have to sign up for the lane for a 20-minute slot. If you come with kids, please bear in mind that they will only be allowed between 9am and 5pm, and that because of aqua classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, they won’t be allowed in between 10-11am either. The pool and fitness room are offered as a local fitness center as well, so it is quite actively used. The parking lot offers plenty of parking for guests and the closest train station is a 10-minute drive away. We chose this stay also because of its central location, close to many places we wanted to visit for our first trip to Scotland. We weren’t disappointed and would recommend it without hesitation. Thank you to the entire staff of the Balgeddie House!

Positive experience: In town for a wedding, this was the closest hotel to the wedding site. We enjoyed the breakfast before departing and the room was quiet and peaceful. The grounds were beautiful.

Positive experience: The room had a lovely view and high ceilings. It was clean and roomy. The walls are very thin. The breakfast was average with items not being filled up regularly, hotel perhaps need to employ a few more staff as the ones working were rushed off their feet. We requested non feather bedding due to severe allergies and was assured this would be arranged.... The duvets were both feather which was very disappointing.

Negative experience: Helpful staff, owner is a nightmare. All but ruined a great wedding, he was very unhelpful, very money motivated, his only good decision was his staff selection. Over priced selection for the evening buffet, and delivered half of it too late without informing guests. He should leave the management to his wife.

Positive experience: We didn't stay over. We were at a small reception following a funeral. The service was quiet and dignified and the food was good and plentiful. Certainly would recommend it for any such function.

Fantastic experience: Booked as a surprise anniversary night for my wife and I. Room was excellent lovely view over gardens. Dinner was delicious with nice server's. Nice relaxing drink in bar after dinner. All in all a brilliant night.

Positive experience: The boyfriend and I came here for a nice relaxing break after having surgery (so the steam room was the most anticipated) and having a crazy time at work. As soon as we arrived we went straight to the pool. The steam room was broken (we highlighted this but ended up leaving before it was apparently fixed). We also weren't advised that you need £1 coin for the lockers, so my stuff was left unsecured. Dinner was nice, chef was amazing and accommodating to allergies. Disappointed in the "large king size bed" as it was just two single mattresses shoved together so the divide was apparent. We also had a crying baby next door the entire night, so no long relaxing lie in for us. We quickly left before 9am unfortunately.

Negative experience: stopped in for coffee with scones ,had to wait awhile for coffee ,nice coffee ,waited until we thought they had forgotten our scone already drank coffee while still hot ,chased up scones when they arrived was still frozen on the inside ,told the young waiter return them and not bother ,paid for coffee and left very disappointed .

Fantastic experience: Nice clean room with view of gardens and very nice dinner in quiet location (although bar was buzzing on Friday night). Room could've been warmer. One server was very much staring at table few times but I guess he just wasn't good at observing discretely and tried to make sure we had all we needed. Other staff was pleasant and friendly.

Positive experience: Attended a wedding reception recently in good weather you can use the tables and chairs outside in front of a large lawn. Bar service is slow, but the staff deal with you as fast as they can. The wedding is in an annex to the hotel on the other side of the car if it is raining there is no cover to get there. Wedding room is nicely laid out and well run but after you have to go back to the main hotel while it is cleared away and set up for the wedding feast and the same happens after the meal its back to the hotel while the room is set up for dancing. Haggis tower for starters was fine but the Steak stew and pastry left a lot to be desired with either wine or perhaps tomato paste added to the gravy? it was not a great dish. A pretty average venue for a wedding but good photo opportunities on the lawn in front of the hotel

Positive experience: Just stayed the 1 night. I used to work here 40 years ago and frankly nothing has changed. It needs some serious TLC. Paintwork marked, carpets a bit manky, bathroom was in serious need of updating. No non slip mats, despite saying they were available. I was on 1st floor and had to drag a heavy suitcase up the stairs ( there is no lift in the main part of the hotel) and the check in was a mess. This scanning QR code is meant to be quick and easy but took us almost 25 mins to check in as we had to fill out the stuff on our phones. Restaurant/Bar closes at 830pm??. Ended up eating elsewhere.

Positive experience: The room was ok, everything you would need. Went down for dinner and got told to wait by staff to be seated so we did and they kept walking past eventually after 10 mins got seated even though not busy. The meal was ok nothing to write home about. Went for breakfast and waited to be seated and eventually a guest said just sit at a table, breakfast was a let down waited awhile for someone to take our drink and food order then waited sometime for the food to arrive, got the breakfast before the drinks and had to ask a second time for them and they turned up after finished eating. The staff seemed to be pandering to another group that were there as other guests had to wait and while too

Fantastic experience: We had a lovely stay at Best Western, spacious and quite room, friendly and helpful staff. The ground is beautiful for a morning stroll. Breakfast was nothing over the top, but just what we need for a fresh start. Thank you very much! Definitely recommend the place to families!

Fantastic experience: Lovely rooms in keeping with the age of the building. Staff that always go above and beyond, from the pleasant helpful waiting staff, to the chef catering for our picky granddaughter to the receptionist who helped sort out our return journey accommodation because they hadn't got availability. Crowned by grounds that are tended to by Patrick and a pool that is great for a pre breakfast swim.

Positive experience: The service is great, the room did not have sir condition nor a minibar. It was pretty hot in the room, lucky it was cold enough outside to get the temp down to a reasonable level at night. Location is fine for work for a vacation there is nothing to do within walking distance. For work relate stay i'd go back, for vacation I would not.

Negative experience: 116 My room corresponded to a max 2 star hotel Review of Best Western Balgeddie House Hotel Pending review The building is beautiful and the garden on the back is really gorgeous. Thus the place has a lot of potential. Big investments should be made to bring the rooms of the older wing to a 3-star standard. My room was max. 10 m2, with very low ceilings, a super tiny bed on wheels and smelled very stuffy. The window frames were full of dust. It felt like if I were in a cupboard. The worst was the non existent acoustic insulation. Said room was between two other rooms and it felt like I was basically sharing it. I could hear every step, the neighbours going to the toilet, taking a shower and even conversations very clearly. I asked the receptionist for earplugs and she said " we don't have them". No "sorry", not any sort of customer orientation or effort to make my experience a bit better. The rest of my family had rooms in the newer area and they were not comparable, them actually corresponding a 3-star standard. It is just outrageous that mine costed the same as theirs (much bigger, with high ceilings and nice smelling). The check-in took 20 minutes - at least! Upon arrival they asked us to scan a QR code, even though we had the voucher from the agency who made the booking. The network coverage there was not sufficient so we had troubles. After that the receptionist wanted a credit card for each room (we had already paid and there was no fridge, nor snack in the rooms). One of the credit card did not work and this took forever, until he finally accepted the same credit card for two rooms. Please note that on our 7 nights stay in 5 different hotels in Scotland, none of the other hotels asked to scan a QR code nor for a credit card. The food at dinner was terrible, mainly consisted of frozen food coming out (boiling hot) of a microwave. I asked for lemon slices for my water and I was served slices with brown edges, which had most likely been stored already cut for a couple of days. I was puzzled. The lemon was not fresh anymore and could really not be used. I gave two points because one waitress on the evening was super nice and really did her best. She even got me fruits as dessert though they were not on the menu. I also slept very well as the mattress was very comfortable, notwithstanding its size. Luckily I am petite. I hope the management and owners bring the property and service to the standard of a 3 or even 4-star hotel, since as I already said, there is really a lot of potential.

Negative experience: Up for a meal only. Over priced cheap rubbish. Only 1 steak on menu tasteless only 1 vegan option and 1 vegetarian option on menu. Would not recommend. Service was ok new bar person didn't know the wines 2nd one took over very knowledgeable. Quick service and attentive.

Fantastic experience: It was a perfect place for the two of us. We were on a family visit and this beautiful property allowed us to have that "us time". Everything was great, despite some noisy neighbours from the wedding but it's understandable. It was very nice to have an opportunity to use the gym and pool or even attend the classes. Highly recommend

Positive experience: We arrived a little early and took advantage of the health suit the pool was nice no deeper than 1.2 meters great for those that dont like deep water both Steam room and Sauna were great there is also a small area in the pool for younger kids. The changing rooms were as you expect having lockable lockers and everything you need plus hairdryers. The room we stayed in 207 had superb views onto the back lawn bed just below was the patio with the sun beating on it and guests enjoying the day. The room had every think needed and was very spacious it could benefit from a small freshing up [paint] [changing the old art work] but other than that great. The bed well we slept well to well we missed breakfast. We were at the venue for a wedding in the Nairn suit this is not the 1st time in there and it was great as always but as always hot and a bit stuffy. All in all a great night stay and great night.

Fantastic experience: This is a great place to stay and eat. Rooms are fab as are the facilities. Staff are alway friendly and helpful. Even has a wee swimming pool. Nice place to have beer or two in their gardens.

Positive experience: Lovely hotel, lovely big room which was well kept and very clean, staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing seemed a bother to them. It loses a star from us as breakfast is too pricey and we book hotels with a pool as we like a jacuzzi but this pool area doesn't have one.

Negative experience: Attended a wedding there. And the scenery is beautiful, gardens are lovely however. 1. Neds walking through the gardens with there bottles of buckfast quite the thing. 2. £9.75 for a vodka and juice. 3. 1 bar staff member on during the evening so service was shocking. 4. Most of the rooms are dated giving the feel of a celar Would not reccomend this place at all.

Fantastic experience: We’re celebrating our Ruby wedding anniversary this year and wanted to thank all the staff for the excellent service, you couldn’t do enough for us and helped to make it a very special weekend to share with our family. We would highly recommend the hotel. Great food, very spacious rooms, accommodating our families requirements. Our family loved using the pool and spa, grandkids had great fun. We stayed at your hotel this weekend the 23-24th of April 2022.

Positive experience: Nice staff , nice place, nice parking etc all very nice but just missing something . The rooms are very clean along with every other part of the hotel . If anything , the menu was lacking in selection. It was more ' pub food ' menu's, which it shouldn't have been in my opinion .

Negative experience: When we arrived we were told that there were two bookings in our name and despite our insistence that we only made one we were charged for this second booking. Our attempts to take the matter up with Booking.com resulted in them denying everything, although it was clearly a second booking from them, which we had not made and had no record of. On arriving in our room there was only one king size bed, despite the room description stating that the room contained a double and two single beds. We had actually queried this with the hotel at the time of booking (Oct 2021) as we specifically stated that we needed two separate proper beds, and were reassured about that in the hotel's reply. First of all the hotel denied receiving our email and then the following day produced a "reply "stating that the room did not have single beds, a reply that had no date and no signature, and had clearly been written there and then. We were given separate rooms on the first night, which was not what we wanted, until the hotel was able to convert the king bed in the original room to two singles, which weren't particularly comfortable. To add insult to injury there was a function going on in the hotel's pub, with loud music playing. The manager brushed this aside, saying it was finished by midnight, which was true but we were tired after a long journey and wanted to go to bed earlier than that. The manager's attitude was dismissive throughout, and needless to say we won't be staying there again. I will also be wary of using Booking.com again after our bad experience with them.

Positive experience: Large double room was very spacious and well decorated. Extremely comfortable bed with super bed linen. Well furnished with a lovely bathroom. Very clean. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: They claimed we reserved 2 rooms. WE DID NOT. We were charged for both as they had our credit card details even though we had written confirmation to prove our booking. Don't trust them,

Positive experience: We visited on Christmas eve, we were given the normal menu, I advised we we were looking for the Christmas menu only to be told we should have booked the Christmas menu, I advised I did book the Christmas menu so we then received the Christmas menu, we never received crackers etc that the other diners had, not a great start ! My pate should have came with "red onion chutney" but I'm 99% sure it was Branston small pickle, no red onions in sight. Turkey was supposed to be served with cranberry sauce but no cranberry sauce to be seen !! Roast potatoes appeared to be of the frozen variety !!

Fantastic experience: I enjoyed my stay, quiet pool area at my time of visit, it did get slightly busier though. Room was pleasant and clean. Staff were all friendly and helpful.... pricing was very competitive, having the pool and gym Available...

Fantastic experience: I have stayed here several times and cannot fault the staff who have been fabulous, friendly and cheerful. One room did need a towel rail tightening but every room has been extremely clean and relaxing. I would recommend it to anyone. I unfortunately did not get chance to use the spa but if ots like the rest of the hotel I'm sure it's good.

Negative experience: Sorry too say the hotel is very tiered looking, needs a bit of money spent on the rooms, should be looking at a long term investment for the next 15 years.

Fantastic experience: Just fitted carpet in 1 of the rooms. Very spacious and onto a terrace and huge lawn area. I would definitely stay here if the need arose. Very friendly, professional and helpful staff too.

Fantastic experience: Unfortunately visit was for a funeral but the food, service and staff were really good. Thanks for making a sad occasion much more bearable.

Positive experience: Good, clean, comfortable room with pleasant outlook over the garden. There for a function, meal was very good and served quickly. Breakfast on the busy Sunday was tasty and hot but the delivery was a bit haphazard, long wait for tea and coffee and even longer for toast, feel neither would have arrived if we hadn't kept asking. Pleasant staff though and the meals in the bar area were good.

Positive experience: It was a 3* hotel, I wasn't expecting excellence. It was a lovely hotel with lovely reception staff. The pool was lovely and the food was lovely and home cooked. Only thing I would say they need to look at is the decor in the dining room, dead spider plants, dated decor and dust on the windowsills isn't a good look. Also grime music isn't a good accompaniment for a nice meal with your 12 year old daughter at 7pm.

Fantastic experience: A great stay in a lovely room overlooking the gardens. As it was a visit for work, and a busy period, I didn't get to enjoy all of the available facilities. An excellent breakfast, a warm welcome at reception and efficient staff throughout make this a hotel I'm keen to revisit for a longer and more leisurely stay. There's lots to see nearby. Next time I'll make time for the Riverside Park, which is a walk away.

Positive experience: The hotel was beautiful inside and spotless. Its surroundings where stunning and well maintained. The spa facilities where great and clean too. Disappointed there was no spa jacuzzi and it did close at 6pm because it was a Sunday. We didn't book a room until later in the day so didn't get much use of it. However the facilties were inviting and clean. You were given a clean towel too free of charge. Some of the staff felt ignorant. I wasn't too impressed with the food and for the price of it. Felt I could cook it better at home. My Cullen and skink was bland. It had bones in it which put me off. I was we didn't pay for breakfast. The room was roasting so slept with the windows open and the bed was uncomfortable both our backs hurt the next morning. The pillows were so flat I messed about with them all night trying to get into a composition. I didn't sleep well at all and planned to go to the sauna in the morning before checking out but was too tired. Maybe bring your own pillow!

Positive experience: Lovely large bedroom with bath and window overlooking well maintained garden. Pool/sauna/steam/gym facilities. Polite and professional staff. Not much nearby but lovely for a quiet getaway.

Positive experience: Lovely hotel, gardens beautiful and staff friendly. My tipple is vodka and they only had Smirnoff, pity they didn't have some grey goose but still had a super visit. Good great too

Positive experience: Staff and buffet were marvellous the function room however smelled of dampness, possibly because of being closed for a long time due to the pandemic or it would have been 5 stars

Fantastic experience: Lovely meal, highly recommend for lunch, dinner or even coffee. We moved into the area and have been looking for places to go and are so glad we found this! The grounds are lovely, it's a great place to meet friends for coffee or afternoon tea. The lunch deal has a good selection for a great price. We went for dinner on Sunday and as usual the food was excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient, food was served quickly ( still under restrictions) and we had a lovely evening. (The vegetarian curry was amazing, forgot to take a photo!) For anyone visiting the area or living locally, it's worth a visit.

Fantastic experience: Lovely varied lunch deals. Good quality food well presented. Amazingly good value compared to nearby hotels and restaurants. Lunch time very peaceful. The gardens and lounges really relaxing. We have found the staff so helpful wanting to accomodate our needs. We didnt stay overnight as we were staying close by in Glenrothes. This hotel is an ideal find for those who enjoy a catch up with family and friends in relaxed surroundings.
