Mayfield Leisure Centre and Pool, located in Ilford, is a popular destination for families and fitness enthusiasts alike. Many visitors have praised the friendly and helpful staff, particularly highlighting receptionists like Toni, who bring a warm atmosphere to the centre. Users appreciate the centre's excellent swimming instructors and the option for adult-only sessions, making it a great choice for families and individuals looking to improve their swimming skills. Mayfield Leisure Centre and Pool: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Good
Fantastic experience: Really lovely and helpful staff, in particular Toni on reception, always happy to help and friendly. She’s and asset to the team
Fantastic experience: Amazing place!
Positive experience: Good place
Fantastic experience: Beautiful
Negative experience: This is absouletly disgusting the seats and the toilets are so disgrceful
Negative experience: We've been coming here for the last year for my child's swim classes however recently they've changed their car park rules and you are now to register your car registration upon entering the reception area on an iPad. No communication whatsoever sent from the leisure center via email or from any staff when entering the building. We received a £100 parking ticket. Called the reception to ask why we have suddenly got a fine in the 10 months we have been coming here. Was told there is nothing they can do. How about let your customers know of the car park changes before they are implemented? Disgraceful.
Negative experience: Bloke at reception did not even tell us to put number plate down for parking when attending swimming session - week later received £100 fine. Reception manager was extremely rude and did not want to help out at all in order to cancel the fine. Bunch of scammers, common courtesy to let customers know to register vehicle on the tablet device.
Negative experience: Absouloutley terrible, I have been coming here for years and my son cant wash his hair because it is long. so i went to help him wash his hair. I left my son's bag and shoes in the changing room and went. I came back and then went to give my son his towel because i forgot. I went and when I came back my son's bag and shoes were missing.I Went to reception and Toni started shouting and yelling at me like we commited a really big crime my son got scared and he is crying now and saying i wont go back here anymore . We dont know Whose frustration she took out on us dont know. If it was not allowed to kkep the stuff for few minutes in chnging room she could make us understand or tell us nicely as well but She shouted at me for no reason and its also not wriiren no where that dont keep stuff in changing room Absouloutley disgracefull Very upsetting
Positive experience: Changing/showering facilities are deteriorating fast. The entire changing room smelled like urine and no showers were working. Swimming instructors are brilliant and they are the only reason we keep going back. Reception staff are on the whole great - helpful and polite. There are a few that dont even pretent to care and should really look for alternative employment.
Negative experience: I had a terrible experience at Mayfield Leisure Centre due to the rude behavior of a receptionist named Mr. Harpreet. Instead of offering assistance, he told a customer to “go away,” which is completely unacceptable. Staff members at a community facility like this should be friendly, approachable, and helpful, but unfortunately, this was not the case. It’s clear that proper customer service training is needed to ensure that staff treat visitors with respect. I hope the management takes this issue seriously and provides the necessary training for their employees.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, friendly staff at reception and ample parking. The swimming pool is quite large and at a good depth for beginners. There are also separate lanes for more advanced swimmers. Ladies only swimming can be booked through Vision Redbridge and takes place on weekends and Thursday evenings.
Negative experience: We choose women and children specific time schedule. But they've too many Male workers all around during that time. So irritating is during dress change and end time when women taking bath too many male move around. What is very uncomfortable for women with hijab. How awful taking bath and changing dress when several men move around.. .. Safeguard workers behavior was so rude..
Negative experience: The hairdryers didn't work. Toilets weren't cleaned.
Fantastic experience: Clean and friendly.
Fantastic experience: Nice new swimming facility.
Fantastic experience: Pleasant and helpful staff. Bravo. David Kraft Enfield and Online Psychotherapy (for all areas).
Fantastic experience: A great value and brilliant leisure centre. Friendly and professional service.
Negative experience: Rudest staff in the world
Fantastic experience: Really nice place to go gym and swimming. Clean and not your usual cramped gym environment. I’ve had a knee injury and operation and all the staff have been amazing help to me. A gym that truly cares.
Fantastic experience: My favourite gym - nice equipment - showers and chnGing room clean and good size
Fantastic experience: Nice place for you body fitness, well situated between Dagenham and Goodmayes, quite affordable membership
Fantastic experience: Public swimming pool and local gym facilities. Used by local schools, members and visitors. The swimming pool is large and a life guard is always on hand. The lockers are kept in decent condition, the swimming pool is not too cold but far from warm. Overall for a public establishment they are doing ok.
Fantastic experience: I play badminton every week , the court is fantastic, worth the price.
Fantastic experience: Very clean, friendly staff it's a nice place
Fantastic experience: Nice but the customer service say look in website only .. when ask something ..
Fantastic experience: Loads of parking space, great sports hall facilities and the astro pitch is beautiful. One of the best I've played on.
Fantastic experience: Great swimming pool and facilities
Positive experience: Great for children. Put my child on swimming lessons waiting list. Guy on reception is always friendly and answer's all your questions.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place
Fantastic experience: The pool is relatively new and clean, ideal for learners as it is maximum 2m deep at one end and 1m deep at the other
Fantastic experience: Nice
Positive experience: Great place for a casual workout, staff are amazing and always helpful. The swimming pool can get busy when there are lessons alongside public swimming. More weights in the gym and a dryer for swimwear would make it a 5 star
Positive experience: It's a lovely modern and clean environment. The staff are great.
Fantastic experience: U
Fantastic experience: Amazing place for holidays
Negative experience: Booked a court for Badminton online however when I went there to play there was no court number so couldn’t tell which court I was allocated and the confirmation email did not mention any court number. In the sports hall, they don’t have court number labelled which led to confusion and conflict. Other people refuse to leave their court as I couldn’t show their evidence that I had booked the court. Which resulted in an argument!
Fantastic experience: Great place for sports activities
Fantastic experience: Really good facilities, would be great if they put the directions signs for newcomers to the facility.
Positive experience: Good place for badminton
Positive experience: Very clean... great classes for kids. Need a swimming costume drainer.
Positive experience: The fact that it's unisex changing rooms is ridiculous considering it's demographic. Shower broken for 3 months now, totally unacceptable considering it's mainly kids that use this pool.
Negative experience: i visited the centre today to register my daughter. she told me there is a waiting list of 1year and half and should go to the website to join. i found her attitude not friendly at all.
Fantastic experience: I play badminton every week here and I know that they have a swimming pool too, and they have plenty of free car parking spaces and some of them have free electric charging points for electric cars
Negative experience: Bad service from the staff and Rude manager. We had minors in our group and manger was being disrespectful and telling us to leave because we were not allowed to jump but the life guard said you can jump on your foot. And when I asked the staff for managers name he told me to shut up.
Negative experience: Really bad service from the staff mainly the manager name Connor we had minors in our group and he was being rude telling us to get out would definitely not recommend this place as it has dirty pool and on top of that really rude staff i would like the owners to have a word with Connor ( the manager )
Negative experience: Rude manager named Connor and told us to get out for absolutely rubbish reasons such as “I told them already not to jump” but than says you can jump very bipolar behaviour and was rude to the minors with us very aggressive staff and rude behaviour from staff.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful pool lovely and clean helpful staff
Positive experience: Got 6 courts for badminton
Negative experience: please don’t waste time with this centre. Reception staff not at all friendly and not listening to customers. once you pay money they don’t give a cash receipt and say they can’t. No where i have seen such system for Point of Sale my money went to drain and i can’t imagine how many people are getting fooled like this !! Don’t know how to educate customer service!! i don’t even want to give 1* can’t help!!
Positive experience: Great facilities but sad looking, depressing staff. Oh well... You can't have it all.
Positive experience: Good facilities, ample parking and some of the swimming instructors are great
Fantastic experience: Nice place n my children love it
Negative experience: Swimming - reception were apparently lovely, (I arrived late as had to go collect arm bands for my granddaughter) but the pool attendant made our family swim a nightmare. From the minute we came in, it was like he wanted to spend his whole time telling us off. Our foster child was not allowed in the pool with my daughter in law until I got there, even though he can swim a little and is 11, because she had our 3 year old granddaughter with her. Ok Fair enough if that's the rules. But then he told our lad off for standing by the pool instead of sitting (even though he'd not been asked to sit). Then when I arrived with the arm bands, my husband was standing by the pool helping to blow them up, so that the children could finally get in the pool, and again this same person came up and told him off for wearing a t shirt, and my husband had to explain he was just helping with the arm bands and was about to go finish getting changed. My daughter in law was coaxing her 3 year old into the pool down the steps, as it was her first trip to this pool and this guy came over again and told her our granddaughter had to move off the steps right away. Then I'm going down the middle of the pool with our lad, and this guy blows his whistle and we're told off again, this time for crossing some line our lad was apparently not allowed to go over, (that I hadn't seen) even though he's with me and he can swim! (but apparently not far enough!). It reached a point where we were afraid to move in case we did anything else wrong! We were just grandparents taking our family for a lovely fun swim and it was anything but. Now I am all for health and safety, and I want us all to be safe, so IT'S NOT WHAT YOU SAY IT'S HOW YOU SAY IT! We felt very uncomfortable and very unwelcome, and didn't feel we'd done anything wrong to warrant how we were treated. All he had to do was politely say what the rules were as we were being fully compliant and non argumentative. Instead of asking more questions, or politely explaining, he was just rude and authoritarian. We were in water, but had we been on land, we'd of been 'walking on egg shells' to put it mildly. It was our first but now last time at this swimming pool! What a shame. Spoilt our lovely trip out with our family. If you go, make sure they give you a sheet with all the rules up front, so you don't get humiliated by some over zealous rude lifeguard. In all my 30 years of parenting and going to countless pools over the years, I have never encountered such rudeness and unkindness towards small children and their family. What a shame! You'd think we were a bunch of rowdy teenagers the way he acted, rather than grandparents quietly trying to have a fun swim with their family. Not impressed :(
Negative experience: The swimming teacher is very good. But the reception duty manager is very rude and has a bad temper. She is not qualified to be a manager at all. Her quality is not qualified to be a manager. She is very fierce. The office staff is very slow in replying to email. If you don’t investigate clearly and solve the problem, you will just push each other Responsibility. It is not recommended to go to this centre.
Positive experience: Neat and clean place with friendly staff. Found quite difficult to book slot.
Positive experience: Go swimming regularly here. Pool is clean and never any issues. Like the option to book adult only sessions or general public slots.
Fantastic experience: I have been to this Leisure Centre with my friends and family. I must admit that this is an excellent facility for everyone. It has been there, but I did not know about this amazing facility with an amazing and friendly staff. Tony, especially is so good and so friendly that I thought that I knew her for ages. The warmth and ease she brings is extra ordinary. I wish every one could enjoy this affordable gift. Enjoy being active and be happy. Kindest Regards, A new addition to Leisure Centre Family!
Positive experience: Nice
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing, well maintained and friendly staff.
Positive experience: As always it's clean and tidy place Easy parking Good changing facilities abd nice swimming pool Enjoyed the afternoon exercise experience
Fantastic experience: Love this leisure centre , I go there for swimming only . I love how quiet it is sometimes as I love less crowded places.
Positive experience: Went for aqua Zumba it’s so new and clean compared to Nuffield Ilford.
Positive experience: Pool is Ok, but the staffs need to be more cooperative and supportive towards customers.
Fantastic experience: Take my kids for swimming lessons, very nice place, very clean and tidy
Fantastic experience: Very clean and nice place but waiting list is little bit longer
Fantastic experience: Good place for swimming and badminton practice
Negative experience: I will be writing a complaint email but toni the manager I believe should not work round people or children and especially people with sen children I've never met someone more ignorant dismissive and inconsiderate with her job title ok fair the guy on the desk literally lied to cover his back which I did tell him was not OK she was rude not comprising due to what was happening shouting at me in the pool and commented how bad of a mum I am because she's I'm looking at her while she is creating infront of everyone which was in all honesty the guy at the front desks fault she was unprofessional rude and just did not care about the affects it had on my children getting out of a pool to get into a pool extra was made to feel not human I then had to take my kids out get them dressed and go find a different pool because of this women which then resulted in confusion and behavioural issues for the rest of the day so thanks toni for being great towards sen parents who struggle enough as it is taking their children out made that whole experience awful yes the man at the desk was originally at fault but as a manager u behaved disgusting
Positive experience: Kids have swimming lessons here. Great instructors, kids thoroughly enjoy their lessons with is very important. Classes do get filled up fairly quickly. Only issue I have is that the changing rooms do get a bit dirty, it’s not the fault of the centre but the people that use it. There were used ear buds in the cubicles when I went there a couple of days ago. I just wish people would clean up after themselves
Positive experience: Great swimming instructors for my daughter
Fantastic experience: My kids go for swimming sessions to Mayfield Leisure Center and they love it. The only problem is that there is a long queue for admissions. I had to wait for about 9 months for my kids to be admitted.
Fantastic experience: Very nice swimming pool and staff.
Fantastic experience: I called the centre on Sunday 26th at around 8.30am as i was having some difficulties booking a family swim with the new online system. The receptionist answered the phone after a couple of rings and advised that there had been some instances of password renew emails not being generated. She proceeded to book the space for me on the 10am public swim session and told me that i would be able to pay on arrival. I arrived at 10 and the payment was promptly processed by the same staff member. I appreciated the common sense approach to overcoming booking issues and ensuring that customers who are unable to log-in to the online system can still book and pay the 'old fashioned way'. Great customer service and a good community swimming facility for families.
Positive experience: Book access to play Badminton on a weekly basis. Generally good though the lights are at times problematic.
Fantastic experience: Nice swimming pool. Friendly reception. Not crowded when I went.
Positive experience: It's feels like a secure and newish leisure centre with good customer service. However, the male changing rooms in the sports halls were locked...and male toilets stunk and we're freezing. They needed a good clean and regular checks. This let it down otherwise would have give 5⭐
Fantastic experience: Awesome pool, with hardly any echos, not over crowded. Very useful for children with Autism and any person with special needs.
Fantastic experience: very friendly staff at the reception. Very fast and helpful, sort out any issues and rebooking very quickly.
Negative experience: My children have been attending the Mayfield Leisure Centre swimming sessions since before Covid. Generally the reception team are helpful and pleasant both in person and over the phone. It is clean and well maintained with the exception of a 'blocked gutter' smell that has recently started emanating from the toilets. Unfortunately I can only give 2 stars as the manager Toni is unprofessional, rude, aggressive, patronising and generally very difficult. I find it hard to believe that she has had any management training and from reading previous reviews I can see that I'm not the 1st person to have been at the receiving end of one of her tantrums. I say tantrum because that is exactly how she responds to any criticism: shouting, storming off, threatening to have children removed. She will also never accept any fault. Such a shame as the swimming instructors are fantastic.
Negative experience: Appalling place. My daughter and I swam in the deep end for 30 minutes without issues to then be accosted by a "lifeguard" suddenly concerned whether my child can swim the length of the pool. I can see this has happened at this centre before reading the reviews. To add to insult you can't get a refund without sending an email!!!! My children have both been swimming students at this centre for several grades and this experience just highlighted what's really going on here. A farce. Poor staffing. Definitely would NOT recommend. Go elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Quaint pool and gym centre at good prices and good area as well for the surrounding neighbourhood
Fantastic experience: Great facilities when you hire the school. I haven't used the pool yet
Fantastic experience: Been playing badminton here over 4 years! Great paking space for both cars and bikes. A new free outdoor table has also been installed :) great football pitch as well at the venue!
Fantastic experience: Very clean and great pool. The staff are very polite and helpful. I definitely recommend this place. Great experience.
Fantastic experience: A staff member at the front known as Bailey had some of the best customer service I have recently come across. It was my first time at the leisure centre with my kids he made my experience very easy and really enjoyable. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Positive experience: Toni the duty manager and the Yound English lad with the beard.. Want to say a huge thank you for the professionalism and politeness. Made my family feel very welcome and safe in the pool. Lovely clean place and a good bunch of staff.
Positive experience: Toni duty manager very accommodating
Positive experience: Great swimming pool with a good temperature for kids. The life guards are an absolute nuisance.. if you try to have fun they will put an end to it.
Fantastic experience: Really good swimming teachers. My daughter has quicky progressed to stage 4 and gaining more confidence with each lesson. Her swimming teachers at each stage have been great. Thanks
Negative experience: I booked the 1:00pm Public & Family Swim today at Mayfield Leisure Centre first time using this facility. My children aged 2 & 7 were soo looking forward to a swim session with their mummy. Upon arrival at the Reception we was served by a female apparently called “Claire” who later claimed to be the ‘Duty Manager’. At reception she questioned the ratio of 2 children and 1 adult as one of my children is under 4. She asked if my son could swim the length and width of the pool otherwise he would also need adult supervision. I answered “No - but he has water confidence” as has been learning to swimming since 6months old. She then said the life guard would test my sons swimming abilities and allowed us into the facility and directed us towards the changing rooms. We changed and was in the swimming pool unquestioned or untested for around 20mins when a life guard approached and said if your child cannot swim the length and width of the pool you need to leave immediately as you are breaking our rules! If the rules are so sacred and adhered to - why was we allowed in the first place and my 7 year old allowed to swim untested for 20 whole mins - where was the rules then?! Then the duty manager appeared “claire” shouted to evacuate the pool as I was breaking the rules and asked all the swimmers to get out the pool. Simultaneously she shouted out to all the public members/ swimmers whilst pointing at me “this lady is refusing to leave the swimming pool and that’s why you are all being evacuated”. Everyone started to look at us, and my 7 year old was in floods of tears at this naming and shaming!!! I have never been so humiliated and livid in my life!!! Clearly Claire is a untrained, unprofessional, inadequate, very rude individual carrying out a very vital job role as Centre - Duty Manager in the worst possible way. Unfortunately this one vile individual ruined our first and last experience at Mayfield Leisure Centre. Icing on the cake at the point of departure I requested a refund for the 1 hour swim session I had paid for, of which we only endured 20mins. I was informed the Duty Manager- Claire who allowed us entry into the pool on her discretion in the first instance, the one who humiliated myself and my children at the pool side, the one who evacuated a whole swimming pool of swimmers, was unfortunately not AUTHORISED to authorise a REFUND and this had to be requested in writing to the Centre Manager!!! WOW!!!
Positive experience: Lovely staff. Always clean changing rooms and pool.
Negative experience: Disgusting customer service, completly unprofessional. Never going back there.
Positive experience: Clean, staff are helpful.
Fantastic experience: Great place, friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: It's really nice, peace and quiet.
Fantastic experience: After visiting this centre today I must say I'm more than impressed with the way the staff are, so polite and helpful and I believe the duty manager that was there this morning (toni ) answered all my questions with excellent knowledge and was very polite when speaking. Health and safety is an upmost in these types if places and I can truly say this was explained in full.
Fantastic experience: I have just come on here to give a good review and I see the last review written by Amrit Sehmi this is inaccurate account of what happened I was at reception at the time this happened, the manager admitted that the staff made a mistake and explained that she can have a refund but could not do it herself as it has to be done by the manager , she Toni was not rude and was very understanding. Why do customers think it is ok to be rude and blame things on staff that are trying to help them .I am glad this woman is not going to come back to this centre the staff here do not deserve to be spoken to like this lady did , amazing centre and ALL staff are great, Thank you. Ashkan
Negative experience: Do not go here. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the staff especially manager Toni who does not know how to talk to customers professionally. I came for a lovely morning to go swimming with my little children aged 2 and 7. When I arrived, the guy at the reception checked their ages with me and told me that it was fine for them to go swimming with me and said that only myself and my 7 year old needed to pay. He took full payment and told me to wait 15 mins before the swimming session started. We waiting 15mins and then got told that actually we could not go swimming as they needed 2 adults with them, not one. I questioned him as he initially told me this was okay. He said he made an error and that he should have not let us go through. When I asked for a refund, he told me this was not possible as they do not provide refunds!! Despite that it was his mistake I could not have my.money back!! He said that you can come back on another day. I asked for a refund as I was not going to come back again if I can't bring the kids by myself. He would not still refund my money. So when I asked for his manager, Toni came out as was extremely rude to me infront of my kids and other customers. She said it was my fault and I should have told the receptionist the ages of my children before. This made me very angry as she clearly had not checked where the error was! Despite infront of me, her staff member admitted it was his mistake, she refused to give me a refund and told me I was being rude!! Very disgusting behaviour infront of my children and made me look like I was causing the problem when it was them!! Horrible start to the morning and instead I went to Beacontree Lesiure Centre Dagenham who were lovely as always and let us go swimming. This disgusting behaviour made my children very upset!! I still have not received my money back!!
Fantastic experience: I just joined this place to do swimming and had some questions. I called up and the waiting time for someone to pick up was not long at all. A person I believe by the name of Giovanni picked up and answered all my questions, all while being patient, polite and understanding and beyond helpful. I think He is an asset to the centre as such customer service is very rare to find nowadays. Such helpful gestures go a long way in helping a customer to feel at ease before even coming to the centre for the first time.
Negative experience: The leisure center's manager (Toni) is unprofessional and has bad work ethics. Her lack of communication skills were evident that she was not qualified for the role she was pretending to play and was merely there to give poor quality service. She had too much ego to admit her error, so instead of being remorseful or reflecting on her behaviour, she proudly defended the mistake being done on her teams part and choose to play a blame game! It is sad to see people deployed on senior roles, lack basic mannerism and integrity which goes to show the shallowness and poor services of organisation. Managers are suppose to be the representative of companies however, uneducated and ill mannered people like the manager (Toni) of this leisure centre goes to show that she does not hold herself accountable for her attitude.
Thank you for your feedback. Please can you email me with further details on your complaint so that I have further understanding. [email protected]
