Negative experience: The reason why I'm giving a 1 star is not for the facilities I can't comment on them as I haven't had the chance to use any This review is about the rude, blunt, unfriendly condescending receptionists who I encountered on my visit monday evening- one in particular an old woman with brown curly hair and glasses and I'll justify why I feel the need to give this rating: I'm trying to get somewhere with swimming lessons I've emailed everywhere in Newport but there are no spaces, I found out that Risca have some but have a really weird system where you have to book a week in advance card payment over the phone only I turned up with both cash and my card to pay for a few weeks ahead on Monday evening without knowing this stupid rule until both the young girl (who didn't give me confidence after witnessing a card payment fail to go through properly with a customer over the phone) and the blunt rude old woman told me, both were very unhelpful, the old woman acted busy I came in at 7:12pm, didn't want to serve me as she claimed she had "just finished" but she was sat there doing nothing from what I saw! She directed me to her assistant who was on the phone I had to wait until this very long phone call had finished as there was no one else around a man hovered by reception but didn't serve me neither women wanted anything to do with me I cant forget how the old woman stared me down acted as if I was a piece of chewing gum on her shoe When the young girl had finally got off the phone she had to fake a smile and I gave her my enquiry about adult swimming lessons and which dates I couldnt do- couldnt do the week after this current one which I tried telling her about twice- I wanted to book for the 12th which is 2 weeks ahead in August bearing in mind the instructors have a break for 2 weeks (which I noticed on a poster on the 19th August-2nd September) so me turning up with cash and card to ask and try to book in person for a swimming lesson 2 weeks ahead isn't allowed for a pathetic reason despite them both saying to me "oh you'll have to phone up on the day as those classes get full" so it's like winning the lottery isn't it? Just like phoning to get a doctors appointment these days you can only do it on a Monday 1 week in advance for a swim lesson?! Never heard of such a crazy idea before! Surely it's easier for people who know they will be available and can commit to certain Mondays to be able to book well them in advance regardless of a specific day/time and not on the day that's 1 week before?! People are more likely to cancel if they have last minute plans and then you have to fill the slot last minute! I'm a planner and feel their system is wrong and neither were sympathetic it was like they couldn't wait to get rid of me I believe they treat anyone who isn't a local as 3rd class citizens I wasn't made welcome and from the lazy attitude from both staff, the lack of response from my emails I have sent- I'm lucky to get an answer a few days later with a couple of blunt sentences stringed together like a robot I won't bother and I'll take my business elsewhere Thanks for showing you have 0 customer service skills and giving me a reason to not want to come back

Fantastic experience: As an older user of Risca leisure centre I really enjoy my exercise classes and know that they are helping me to stay fit. Classes in the pool are very good too. The coaching and reception staff at the centre are very helpful.

Clean changing rooms .but get those locks mended on the changing room doors mr maintainence people only costs a few pounds .hell next time I'm there I may do my self ! .

Fantastic experience: Lots of space and facilities on offer such as small sided 3g football pitches, ATP, dance studios, sauna, pool with shallow end for kids lessons and the best gym in any CCBC leisure centre. The best thing about the centre are the staff, right from the happy receptionist to the attendants and swimming instructors, my daughter recently started her first swimming lessons with Audrey and each week came home with a huge smile on her face excited to tell everyone what she had learned. She quickly progressed onto the next stage. The centre pride themselves on value for money and I can certainly say that Audrey and the team certainly delivered on this and I could not recommended the centre enough

Positive experience: Everything first class, safety conscious staff and very pleasant and helpful. However both drinks machines out of order just when you needed a drink after exercise.

Positive experience: Played on the 5-a-side pitches, was really impressed, pitch was in great condition and some of the best astro-turf I have ever played on. Also fairly priced too. A big thumbs up from me for the pitches.

Positive experience: Lovely pool with depth up to 2metres, small viewing area. Plenty of activities on going even through school holidays. Good on site parking after school hours however not the easiest leisure centre to find without Sat nav or local knowledge.

Positive experience: Pool was nice & pretty warm my only problem was the lockers in changing rooms only used old pound coins which are now out of circulation so couldn't use them (reception could of mentioned this when I booked in!) ended up carrying valuables into pool area in a plastic bag & keeping an eye on it - not an ideal situation hence 3 stars
