Negative experience: Do not bother joining, I have been a member of the gym here for well over a year. To be honest, it is not a premium or luxury health club, the spa is not in good nick and the pool is crumbling, lots of loose tiles. The steam room does not work effectively and the sauna smells like feet, and I know for a fact the flood does not get cleaned regularly (if you are ever there take a look below). It is very lucky it is the only real health club in Witham as if another one opened they would be struggling. They have also told me they are getting rid of the blue light discount and advertised this as a good thing... it is disturbing that the company would rather make more money than value people who make a real difference in society. I would not recommend this club to anyone as it is well overpriced for what you pay.

Negative experience: Very unprofessional customer service from an 'Emma' from customer membership services. I had not used the club for 4 months for health grounds and tried to keep membership active to see if can continue to use in the future. When it became clear to me I would no longer to use the membership, I gave my 1 months notice on 7 September. I was then informed I would then need to give nearly 2 months notice upto 1 November. I then offered to pay upto 7 Octoberand was replied to I have to pay upto 1 November or in 14 days I will be sent to recovery collection agency. I just want people to know my experiences and decide whether you want to deal with a gym with so little compassion or decency. I have decided to fight this on principle.

Positive experience: Recently joined. I’m enjoying it however for the price point this amazing location could offer so much more wish me as open at least an hour later other activities like fishing and clay shooting would do well. Great location feel they can expand more

Negative experience: Joined this club because I wanted a degree of exclusivity and a good offering of classes but it really is no different from a normal gym. It’s crowded, and it’s difficult to book classes as they are very full. They added more equipment to solve this but it made it feel like a shop selling gym equipment and I still had to skip machines or stand and wait for them to become free. The staff are very polite and friendly but overall you may as well pay for a membership at Fusion which is less than half the price. I don’t golf so maybe it’s better to just go there for that.

Positive experience: Ok gym but quite small gym anrea and very over priced and the membership prices keep increasing by quite a drastic jump. I wasn't emailed about the increases either. There always seems to be an issue with the steam room and once the changing rooms were flooded so we had to walk through the restaurant to get to the golf changing rooms.

Fantastic experience: Very picturesque, spacious amazing grounds, staff are very helpful especially Mark.

Negative experience: Arrived today expecting to have a good workout and relax in the pool only to be told they're closing early.Apparently "head office got the fastive season times wrong on Google" which I think is unacceptable and not enough of an excuse. Is this how all their gym treat their members.? I'm very disappointed. It's not a cheap gym either. The receptionists didn't seem to worry that they were turning me away, probably because they already have my money. Most of the evening classes were cancelled over the festive season which I feel is unfair as I, and many others work through this ridiculous season. I was under the impression that hospitality do not only run "normal hours". I'm very disappointed.

Fantastic experience: Really splendid place for a wake. Very smartly presented in a private dining area. Other than use of toilet facilities there was no contact with the masses of golfers around. Plenty of parking too.

Positive experience: Course is stunning and apart from a very busy course schedule/competitions it is one to play . Was a member up until recently so have had lots of interaction with staff and to be fair they all do a great job. My only watch out for this course is the pretty full members list which in turn makes it difficult to play between 7-12.

Fantastic experience: Enjoyed a nice round of golf here today (5/9). Very good facilities and course in good condition. Definitely have a sausage roll and a coffee at the "halfway hut" (compliments to the lady who makes them) All staff I encountered were very friendly and efficient. Would recommend it

Fantastic experience: Friendly clubhouse. Excellent welcome and staff. Great to sit outside with a beer in Summer. Food is good. Golf course is a great test with super good greens. Water/ river comes into play on 9 or 10 holes.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic Golf Country Club and Gym. We visited a number of gym's in the area and Benton Hall really stood out as offering something on another level. We meet Karen for our free tour of all the facilities on offer. Everything was explained to us clearly and we strolled around, we never felt rushed. The membership options were again explained and then we had time to choose what membership best suited our needs. A few days later we had our induction to the gym and Greg asked what my aims were and he set out an initial exercise routine for me. Wonderful young man, professional while relaxed and very engaging. Very relaxed gym, smells fresh and nicely spaced out equipment. The club offers 2 group exercise studios with various classes throughout the day along with a group cycling studio. Swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna. A 9 hole pitch and putt golf course which is included in the membership. Additionally Benton Hall 18 hole golf course which is a separate membership although you get a 20% discount on the green fees with your gym membership. There is also a very large dinning and bar area including an outside area overlooking a large lake, wonderful place on a summers evening.They even have a dinning area for parents with children. Large car park, level access. Non members are welcome to visit the bar and dinning area. A truly wonderful country club where we feel very relaxed and welcome much more than a gym, a lifestyle experience.

Negative experience: 5 stars to the green keepers. 1 star for the management, only listen to members they want to listen to and fob the rest off. Also very expensive to be a golf member as they insist you have to have a gym membership. Looking to find another club where they listen to all members. Staff seem in a world of their own. Sadly, the poor relation to some of the other Club Company Clubs.

Fantastic experience: Played golf there and the course was in nice nick. Been back since and just as good. Halfway house was worth a stop at as well.

Negative experience: The management has gone downhill. If there is a problem instead of listening and solving they become defensive. No customer loyalty or empathy. It’s the closest to me and many friends in the club so I will stay as this is a pragmatic decision … it isn’t the club what it used to …

Negative experience: The wettest, muddiest golf course I have ever played. Sinking ankle deep into mud trying to find plugged balls on a fairway is not my idea of golf. Ive seen cattle sheds/farm yards in better condition. I was missold a membership by their merciless and aggressive sales team under the pretences they've spend £100,000s on drainage and irrigation. And at an extortionate price, how they can charge nearly 2k a year for course only playable 6 months of the year is beyond me.

Fantastic experience: Ive been a member for a lot of years and love all the classes, instructors and staff. There are a wide variety of classes to choose from (and a huge number of them), a gym, a pool and the golf course. Plenty of parking as well as a coffee/bar and also able to get food and sit in the comfy chairs (you don't have to be a member to use this)

Fantastic experience: Every member of staff we have met have been lovely. They are polite and professional. The facilities are excellent and supremely clean. Despite years of gym memberships and regular visits to facilities around the globe, Benton always feels like home, whether in the gym, the yoga group, or just drinking coffee by the lake, this is the place we keep coming back to. Looking forward to seeing the lodges.

Positive experience: Fairly busy in the gym when I arrived at 1015. Car parks were fairly full as well but managed to get a space. Things had eased by the time I left at noon.

Negative experience: Rude staff. My wife I had given our details to use the gym and see if we wanted to join. They approached us, not the other way round. My wife was then asked if she wanted to go there with her friend who was already a member. When she got there she was told she had to pay 15 pounds and they wouldn't honour the free pass. The guy she spoke to was very rude and even had a cup of coffee in his hand as he spoke to a potential customer. Suffice to say I won't be joining, or for that matter use my free pass. I now need to phone them, to get myself off their database.

Positive experience: Very nice 18 hole course for the price. The reason for the 3 stars is when I visited and played a round 3 or 4 of the holes had temporary tee off mats and some even had been temporarily shortened. I'm guessing they may had been preparing these holes for peak season.

Fantastic experience: We joined the club in December and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience so far. The choice of classes is great as is the gym. The staff are so helpful and friendly and really helped us bringing our family along as guests at the weekend. The instructors are knowledgeable, friendly and well trained, encouraging you to get the most from your workout. Also, the cafe is great for lunch after a morning at the gym Great!

Positive experience: Nice gym with up to date equipment that helps plan and monitor exercise routines. Staff are friendly and helpful. Not the cheapest and think it is a little unreasonable to have use of the three par course as part of the membership, but to then have to pay £1 for each club hired. Surely at the price paid for membership, this could be included.

Fantastic experience: Attended pulse bar today for coffee was pleased to note that a member of staff challenged someone on their phone even though the gentlemens reply did not seem to possertive. Refreshing.

Positive experience: Ok so the great weather did help. But, what a great setting and good views making for first tee. Very helpful staff found us a spare tee slot 1 hour earlier and good starter had us off in no time at all. Greens were in great condition - much better than the Essex. Some challenging holes very rewarding. Beware that at least 6 or so holes have a bell, but no current notification signs for you! Also, some hazards difficult to spot because the stakes are set inside and too low to be seen from a distance. A great days golf but spoilt by 3 men bullying their way round the course - no etiquette no manners - hope they have insurance as someone will get hurt one day. Too close for comfort to my partner!

Fantastic experience: Had my youngest 5th Birthday party there last week in the creche, the staff were brilliant. Lots of interactive games, goodie bags and nice to have a venue that did healthy food options for the children as well.

Negative experience: Membership consultants will lie through their teeth to sign up new members. Higher management are arrogant, rude and have larger "Swag" bags than the "Great Train Robbers" Benton Hall and The Membership Company have been reported to trading standards and face court action for mis selling practices. Avoid dealing with the cunning lying thieves at all cost.
